Monday afternoon visit. The bartender was very nice and attentive. They have many good choices on the tap. It was nice to get a table outside in a sunny day. Fried pickles were amazing. The guy cooking pizza on the wood oven was nice and took time to answer my curious questions. Overall it was a great visit. Service - There is none. Find another place to go to. It's self-serve, so don't expect anyone to wait on you. No wonder the place was practically empty. I waited and waited at the bar to ask for ice water, the 2 servers ignored me...only until I said should I go behind the bar and get my own water, did one of them tell me YES!, there's a spicket over there or u can wait. What I can't understand is how anyone could give them anything more than two stars. The place is creepazoid city with a bunch of drunk 20 something losers who think they're cool and servers who also think they're cool. And it's really harsh lighting so you get to see how creepy and drunk all the people are. The beer is decent and that's the only reason I'm giving them more than one star but the food is disgustingly bad. I had the street tacos. First off they weren't tacos, the eggroll-like exterior was burned and I don't know what the gooey interior stuff was but it was like liquified fish guts...horrible. read more

Plenty of room to meet friends and dog friendly. They ate known for their craft beers..obviously not their food! They Also have pool tables and occasionally live music. There is a full bar and brewery on site. Low key atmosphere with a good vibe. Ok...the burger... I was the first one in there for 20 minutes..ordered a burger with potato salad to go. It took 25 minutes to cook my burger..to go...I get home and it was COMPLETLY raw.. I took a few bites before I noticed it was raw ! I never give a bad review but I have diarrhea and am so sick. The cook doesn't know how to cook or maybe clean his hands before cooking. I would stick to the beer and maybe the pizza. If I continue to feel terrible I will go to ER. BTW. COURTNEY the bartender and server was great..very friendly! Update..this morning I still have a splitting headache and diarrhea...don't eat here unless they change their sanitary situation. During our mini-getaway to the woods, we stopped in Grass Valley, CA for dinner at 1849 Brewing Company. They had a really nice outdoor seating area, however it was way too cold for that sadly. They also had a wood fired brick oven pizza right when we walked up, which I always assume means delicious pizza! Once inside, the bartender welcomed us in & explained we could sit anywhere, just order all food & drinks up at the bar. From reading other reviews, I expected slow service because it seemed like a one-man-show running the bar & food orders -- but I was wrong! Even when it started to get busier inside, there was never a long wait for food, extra sauce, or even our bill at the end. The decor is cute, with lots of old tin signs with sarcastic & funny sayings on them, lots of antique-like beer slogans, & a handful of pool tables in the back, along with a small stage. I wasn't overly hungry, so I ordered a big Garden Salad with extra balsamic vinaigrette as my main meal. We also ordered the cauliflower hot wings, which could be made with beer b-que sauce, or Korean sauce as well. They were a little softer than I usually like, but the flavor was delicious! My husband ordered the "For The Love Of Veggies" pizza, which came with marinated artichoke hearts, mushroom, onion, peppers, olives, garlic sauce, arugula dressed in olive oil, lemon juice, Parmesan, & their 1849 five cheese blend & sauce. I was right about the oven outside, because the pizza was incredible! We had a great time listening to the eclectic music they had playing, while chatting over our meal together. A small group of us met at the 1849 Brewing Company (08/25/2025) for beers and dinner. This is the second or third time I have been there, and I thought it had to get better. WRONG! Once again, I was highly disappointed. I ordered the "Big Cheese," which is described on the menu as "1949 5-cheese blend, white Cheddar, Swiss, applewood smoked bacon, tomato, on toasted Sourdough bread." Sounds delicious, right? What I received was a sandwich cut in half with a slice of green tomato on one side, and two, 2-inch slices of bacon and a slice of ripe tomato on the other side. In essence, I got a half a sandwich. When I complained about not having any bacon on the other half of the sandwich, a server left a note for the cooks for more bacon. I waited about 15-minutes and finally went up to the cooks to see where my bacon was. They had not even started cooking it. The server brought me a lot of bacon (enough for a whole sandwich) but it was not thoroughly cooked (I hate limp bacon). I used a couple of pieces that was cooked more than the rest, and I finished eating my sandwich cold. There are two reasons why I did not get up and leave: (1) I was hanging out with dear friends, and (2) I was hungry and had already waited a long time. On the positive side, I did enjoy the cider I had, but not enough to rate this more than 1-star. The staff seemed "put out" that I had the audacity to ask them to correct their mistakes. They provided a small discount, but with all I went through (including having to do their job of following up on the bacon), I felt it would have been fair to comp the sandwich (or at least give me half off, seeing as how that is what I really got and enjoyed). It also seems that if you list specific ingredients on your menu, you would take pride in providing what is described. Not this day!! I thought I had taken pictures as I was already planning on writing a Yelp Review before I even left the Brewery, but apparently, I got sidetracked and did not. Sorry. read more

1849 Brewing Co. has some delicious food and the atmosphere is really laidback and chill. We held a small family gathering here, and everyone had a great time. The music was on point, the servers were respectful and nice, very accommodating. We had a whole age range of people, from babies to Grandma's, and everyone enjoyed themselves! Food: We ordered 11 pizzas, a couple salads, and some apps for everyone. They came out looking and tasting delicious. My favorite will always be the "For the Love of Veggie" pizza, which I think I can eat at least once a week until the day I die. And my second favorite will always be the cauliflower wings, or maybe even the beer battered mushrooms! And of course the chicken wings are yummy... We will definitely return! read more

The beers are absolutely cold! My favorite! ordered blonde and raspberry sour both were 5/5 and all 4 drinks were consistently cold so 5/5 on the service. The vibe is totally chill, inside area is huge, you can play pool, they have 2 tables open. They also have a sitting area on the other side of the hall, and outside sitting area. Friendly atmosphere, and plenty of choices in beer. The owner introduced himself to us and made us feel welcome. We had some snacks which we ordered off the menu while watching a game on their large television screens. At about nine a band started to play and some folks were dancing and having a ball. This is a great place to relax, drink a beer, and watch a game. If you stick around until nine on a weekend you can dance or listen to the band and have a good time. We'll be going back often and wearing our dancing shoes in case we get happy feet or maybe to just have a beer from their large selection of in-house brews. It's the happening brewery, food and entertainment hub in this shopping center area next to a residential area. This night had a band and later a DJ playing reggae type music. In and outdoor seating. Won't come here again This place has really slipped in every way. Prices are way too high for the quality of food. It's burned one day and uncooked the next. The vegetables need to be WASHED. The atmosphere inside feels like a public restroom that serves beer. The operators don't do much to discourage over drinking or drug use. More empty drug bags spotted in the bathroom. Numerous drunk customers yelling and fighting. Too many disobedient dogs peeing outside next to their delicate owners. Charged 2x different prices for the same drinks. We decided to taste all the beers, $2 per so we shared a flight of 9. All were drinkable my favorite was the Scotch Ale and my husband liked the Hazy IPA. Overall the beers were ok but not tons of flavor. As far as food goes we ordered the "Crispy"Cauliflower Bites they tasted good, but were soggy. The Garlic Pesto Fries also tasted good but could have been crispier. The menu stated the fries were vegan but they had cheese on them. read more

Granted, we arrived ~7p on Saturday night knowing it was bound to be busy. We'd read reviews about slow service and since none in my party of 3 are shrinking violets, we marched right up to a pair of servers and asked for the lowdown. They told us we could grab menus and sit anywhere. Along the way, another confirmed we could help ourselves to water from the bussing station. We sat at one of two un-bussed high tops and they had it clean after about 5 minutes during which time I did a Check-In. There seemed to be a flurry of activity such that the first few encounters with staff were not actually with our eventual server, and once she came to the table she was super apologetic. No harm no foul, I thought. But less-than-take-charge patrons might have had an issue. Flat screen TV's showed football, people were playing pool, and a band was setting up in the corner. In the other room, there were more TVs, the bustling bar, and open windows to the busy kitchen. With all of this energy, and the fact that the high ceilings give the two main rooms a cavernous feel, the place gets noisy. There for the beer first and food second, we ordered two flights between us and in doing so tried all 7 of the house beers. A flight is 5 beers, but one can order additional samples for $1.50 each. We were going to wait to order food but the server warned us that they were running an hour out for pizzas, so we ordered food at the same time. Sweet potato fries came first and were seasoned lightly with no breading. I actually prefer them this way. We had to ask for ketchup and/or ranch, the latter was thick and, well interesting. We were done with the shared sweet potatoes by the time two of our salads arrived. The sweet potatoes weren't necessarily ordered as an app (one in our party ordered only a side salad as her entree), but we didn't specify and weren't asked. I'm not sure it would have mattered though. The third member of our party didn't get his burger until his wife was done with her salad, about 10 min after our entrees were brought. She asked for blue cheese dressing on the side and got it on the salad, whereas I asked for blue cheese dressed and got some other dressing entirely. It might have been the shallot vinegarette though it tasted merely like barely seasoned oil. The burger reportedly was "just okay". The main event was the beer, and they were fine. None of them blew our socks off. Of the 5 in my flight, the single-hopped Homegrown was my fave. Because they do not have a beer menu, however, we were really at a loss as to IBUs and ABVs. It would have been interesting to have the deets, type of hops used, etc. since, for example, their double IPA didn't seem to have much of a kick to it and the Homegrown tasted hoppier with a possibly higher IBU. One would think a brewery would want to educate its consumers or take pride in its offerings in this way. Unlike my dining companions, I don't live in Grass Valley. But they agreed to give it another shot in a month or two. Apparently, the opening a couple weeks ago was much anticipated. We were left disappointed. The highlight was our server Beth, who was very sweet and couldn't seem to apologize enough though we never complained. Our initial expectations were that we'd get decent pub grub at best, and the very reasonable prices on the menu furthered that. It was as if the apologies had become second nature to her for I doubt she overheard our talking. As a former small business owner and occasional Hell's Kitchen viewer, I'm going to go out on a limb here ;) and say that issues for 1849 lie with overall lapses in management. read more

Being out at 1849 last Saturday we bought a chicken pesto sandwich (I can't remember the actual name) anyway the chicken was very thick. It was tasteless. We just basically picked out it and threw it away also bought the onion rings half of the onion rings had no onion in them. They were greasy they had tons of the bottom little pebble pieces just thrown in there. I did bring those back. The fries were usually very good but they were subpar. I food there and it's normally been very good. The pizzas have been hit and miss in the last year but the pizza I got when I went and returned the onion rings was horrible one of them. The vegetarian was OK but still subpar compared to how it used to be. The cheese was a joke who pays almost $20 for a cheese pizza that has almost no cheese. It's supposed to be a five cheese pizza. You're ordering dough sauce and cheese. How hard is that to complete. I think Costco's for cheese pizzas for 11 bucks is far better than the cheese pizza I got from 1849 so if they don't step up their game, I won't be going back. Additionally, the guy behind the bar I don't know his was not very friendly when I was explaining to him about the onion rings. He wasn't rude, but he wasn't what I would call. Great customer service. If it were me, I would've said hey I'll return the onion rings. I'll get you the pizza and I'm gonna give you a free onion what I done but to each their maybe he doesn't make the rules. My friends and I dropped into the brewery around 11:30 AM on a Saturday. When we arrived it was not very busy. There was a basket by the front door where you were supposed to pick up the food menu. It was empty. I had a flight of beers, which were all pretty tasty. I ordered an appetizer and a sandwich. My food order was put in at the same time as my friends' orders. The food took forever to arrive and my food came about 10 minutes after my friends' food. My appetizer was served with the sandwich, which I found odd. I had the beer BBQ cauliflower wings and the dirty bird sandwich. The cauliflower wings were good. The sandwich was huge and was very good. There was only one person tending the bar and she was also taking the food orders. There was a chef and a trainee in the kitchen. As the place started to fill up the service became slower. I'm not sure if someone didn't show up for work or that's the usual operation, but they sure could have used at least one more person on staff. The brewery is spacious and tastefully decorated. There's a pool table in a room off of the main room, which looks like a great place to have group events. With a little tweaking this could be a 5 star establishment. read more
