Indoor dining area for the cafe with a full bar next door. The Historic Washington Hotel was built 175 years ago.

Food is very good and the ambience is great. There is dining on the back porch overlooking the Yuba River.

    How beautiful can it be?!

Over the hill and through the woods to Washington Hotel Cafe we'll go! I think this is about as good as you'll get in the town of Washington. The town is small, if you blink, you'll miss this place. Located on the first floor of the Washington Hotel, its a unique place to get a bite to eat. There's plenty of seating both in and out. We chose to sit outside, as there isn't A/C inside and the back patio had a nice breeze. The service was quite slow for having only us and another table occupied. We ordered a burger and a turkey sandwich. My burger was supposedly 1/4 lb but it was half of that. What saved my burger was the crinkle cut fries, Score! Hubs had the turkey sandwich, and frankly, the turkey sandwich was WAY better than the burger! The turkey Sammie came with a bag o' chips, it was one month outdated. I might have brought it up to our server but she didn't come around much. I'm ok with that, but I know a lot of peeps who would be in a Shizzy, if they saw that they were served outdated chips. The food was mediocre, but the view on the back patio is worthwhile!

We went here for a relaxing bite to eat and a cold beer. The view is spectacular, our quarter pound burger with cheese & onion rings and grilled cheese with tomato and onion, plus garden salad were all excellent. This is a no-frills kind of place and service was a unhurried as well, but we were here to relax and take it all in -- Washintgton Hotel Cafe delivered!

Arrived on Saturday and found the cafe closed. They said the only thing for sale was ice cream.

Very good food. Service was a bit slow, but the view of the Yuba River from the back deck dining area totally makes up for it.

The place was quaint in a very small town. On the inside, paintings and other interesting art scattered the walls, a few tables and a restroom with a fun bathtub garden. The display case at the front counter (where are you order food) featured some appetizing grab and go treats and bites such as peaches and cream muffins, various cookies, lemon bars, potato and a curry chicken salad. The woman at the counter was friendly and helpful with her recommendations. I had the NSJ Panini which was very tasty, it came with fries and coleslaw. I enjoyed everything. I ordered the lemon bar which was ok, a little tackier (sticky) than what I prefer but the flavor was nice. I was impressed by all of the smoothie and juice selections. They looked, well crafted and inviting. The next time I find myself in the area, I will definitely return for one of the salads and a smoothie!

They serve organic coffee and I could really taste the difference. They currently have a seasonal menu and their regular menu included some unique options. The maple latte caught my eye; I ordered it with oat milk and it was one of the best coffee drinks I've ever had. Seriously! It wasn't overpoweringly sweet, but there was enough flavor so it actually tasted like a maple latte instead of a warm milk as many special drinks end up tasting from my experience. It's always disappointing to buy an expensive coffee that doesn't have enough flavor, but you'll get what you pay for here. They offer a few little snacks and there is tons of seating (indoor and outdoor!) with beautiful natural light, art and plants. The baristas were kind and helpful and made beautiful latte art. If you love it as much as I did, you can even buy coffee beans and merchandise as well. It's tucked away in downtown placerville and I would highly recommend Pachamama to everyone!

This particular one is in Placerville, right on touristy Main Street. Well It's actually tucked in a shopping pedestrian alley right off Main Street. The coffee is delicious. I've had their various drip coffees before, all terrific tasting. My usual go to's are their lattes. This time I was in the mood for a seasonal winter drink, wintermint mocha. Yum! I ordered it with oat milk and they don't up charge. The mocha had a smooth, creamy chocolate espresso taste. I even got a pretty design of foamed milk on top of my drink. Aww it was cute. No up charge for that as well and I didn't even ask them to do it Outside the cafe is an outdoor courtyard with bistro tables for folks to sit n enjoy their coffee or whatever. I say whatever because the area is open for all to sit a spell. The courtyard is enclosed with brick buildings around its square perimeter. The buildings provide ample shade and cooling temps in the summer. Plus there is a water fountain that provides a calming zen like sound of trickling water. The cafe also has an indoor seating area. The interior furniture includes tables, sofas, lounge chairs, and high top tables aesthetically giving off modern, minimalist Scandinavian design vibes. Luvin this look.

It was $14 and was completely forgettable. The bowl wasn't any where near full. The miso soup was bland. We got the quinoa added and it was totally forgettable. Said it would have green pea and sunflower shoots, but we had none. There were some green onions slices floating around on the top. We ordered two dishes to share and this one didn't fit the bill as a shareable item. For the disappointment we had in the miso it was totally made up by the vegan kale cesar salad. It was a large bowl of yum! Hearty serving of well dressed kale. The Cesar dressing delicious! Slices of cucumber, avocado and chick peas and a beautiful thick slice of bread on top. It was so filling we easily shared it and filled us up. It was $15 only a dollar more than miso broth bowl. It's was so worth every penny. The service was friendly and fast. It's a pick your own table place, which means one usually has to wipe their table down for crumbs. We don't mind. It's a cute place. We found parking fairly easy. Commercial street being blocked off to traffic is nice.

I'm talking about Red Moose Cafe, located in beautiful Sierra City, CA. As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice the large counter and the many stools that cater to locals all over Sierra County. Hikers trekking the Pacific Crest Trail make the 2-mile diversion into Sierra City to enjoy the fine mountain cuisine, after weeks of enduring... shall we say ... trail food? The owner of the restaurant, Steve, told me that during the summer months, the restaurant hosts several hikers each day. Hikers, truckers and 5th wheelers know their food, and the great places to dine. "From the Coop" section of the breakfast menu, I went with "Mega Moose," as I was in the mood for a large, mountain breakfast. The menu describes this amazing breakfast as, "Two eggs, two premium bacon, and two sausage links served with potatoes or cottage cheese and your choice of toast or English muffin." Surprise! ... country style or hash brown potatoes were offered, so I went with hash browns. As my de facto standard choice, I opted for sourdough toast. This amazing breakfast showcases two pieces of thick bacon, and two juicy links of sausage, grilled perfectly and placed on the platter with care and lots of love. The slab of hash brown potatoes were perfectly grilled to crispy medium golden brown on the outside, white, tender and juicy on the inside. Perfect hash browns! As per my order, the two eggs arrived sunnyside up, perfectly cooked, and made for great dipping with the hash browns. My slice of sourdough toast was toasted ... no surprise, buttered, and made for the prefect thing to scoop up every bit of goodness from the plate. No wonder Red Moose Cafe is a favorite of locals, and hikers who divert from the Pacific Crest Trail to relax, and enjoy a superior breakfast! My breakfast was simply amazing, and it was so delicious that I didn't bother adding any condiments for taste enhancement - including salt or pepper - as my breakfast was simply THAT GOOD! Steve, Tammy and the friendly staff treated me like a rock star, which added to the amazing breakfast that I enjoyed at this fine restaurant. Such a delicious breakfast, served in a rustic cafe, but super friendly staff! When you're exploring beautiful Sierra County, at the northern end of the gold country, or you're taking a break from hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, you owe it to yourself to enjoy fine mountain cuisine at Red Moose Cafe. Steve, Tammy and the rest of the friendly staff will serve you outstanding food, and treat you like a rock star. Cheers!
