We love food and this is by far the best place we have ever eaten at. We are gluten free and the amount of food we could eat here was unreal. There wasn't anything we didn't like. We started with hummus and veggies, then got the dolmas which were warm and amazing.... Then moved to sharing the Greek moussaka, braised duck and slow roasted lamb shank. Awesome! A sumptuous treat in a quiet retreat. I've read about this place for years. We finally decided to treat ourselves and some friends and try this out. It's a bit of a drive, but still very worth it. Loads of parking and greeted by the proprietor and chef. You have to make reservations as this is a very small and intimate setting. It is bright, clean and very lovely inside but the food! The food is spectacular. We had. BRAISED DUCK RISOTTO, ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE , MEDITERRANEAN LAMB STEW WITH COUSCOUS, and LAMB SHANK. I'm sorry I didn't take pictures of the beautifully presented meals, but they were works of art and the flavors were sublime. Everything was delicious. We splurged and had four desserts! I've attached pictures of those. Once again, the presentation was over the top and the flavors for marvelous. If you have a special occasion, or you want to treat somebody , this is definitely the place to go. What are unique and quaint little place. Can't say enough about the friendly personalized service and the delicious food. We had the lamb and the duck and really enjoyed both. Mother's Day Dinner at Cafe Collage in Oregon House, CA. An exquisite Mediterranean-style restaurant with the most personal attention to service. Hummus was served first. We ordered the House Cured Greek Olives from the chef's own olive tree. The olives were served with delicious pita bread. Then, we enjoyed a very tasty Caesar Salad. Delicious! Hubby had the Beef Tenderloin. I had the Lamb Shank. We were stuffed after the meal and ordered our Chocolate Mousse to go. Expensive? Yes! But every bite makes it all worth it. Cafe Collage only has two servings a night: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You must treat yourself to this dining experience at least once in your life. Oregon House, where Cafe Collage is located, is neither a commune or a farm. It's a small town not quite in the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from there. When visiting a friend who lives in Oregon House I learned that Cafe Collage is a great restaurant in town and "the" great restaurant in town. If you've seen Oregon House you'd never suspect a place like this with a large, ever-changing Mediterranean menu would exist out here. Thankfully though, it does. Pandemic precautions meant that my friend sent me that week's menu. I placed my order through her and she picked it up and brought it to her home. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what Cafe Collage looks like as I never saw it. But she wasn't kidding about the food. House-Cured Greek Olives ($6) and Collage Mirage ($16) were our chosen starters and the latter proved more than ample for three of us. A collection of dolmas, hummus, yogurt dip, pita, and more could've been dinner itself. Cioppino ($28) and Tunisian Couscous ($26) were chosen as our entrees and finding such bounty out here in Oregon House seemed as rare as a unicorn siting. Both were delightful and abundant. Oregon House isn't far from Grass Valley, a place more people have likely heard of. If you find yourself anywhere in the vicinity I'd recommend Cafe Collage. It's "the" great restaurant in a very small town but my taste buds told me it'd fare well even in a larger population with more available options. read more

This 5 star restaurant may seem out of place in the middle of nowhere but it is real and amazing - it is even worth the drive from Yuba City! The menu changes each week based on what is locally available. The head chef/ owner always makes sure to greet you and make you feel at home. The bread and home made hummus you get at the start of the meal is delicious - so delicious it's hard to stop eating. But make sure to save room for desert! I've ignored my normal rule of no 5-star reviews on only one visit. Why? Because the location of Cafe Collage is so removed from most people's travels that I believe the ability to get an amazing meal in this location is worth it's own star. So I'm in Downieville on a Saturday, and need to get some delicious food. I'm willing to drive approx. 1 hour. I'm taking a girlfriend. Frankly, I need to get away from the 8 dudes who have taken over my house for a cycling weekend. I Yelp up some locations, including going northeast to Sierraville or Loyalton or Portola, or heading west to Nevada City etc. Not gonna lie...I'm pretty pro at looking at the mapping system in Yelp (10 years Elite means I'm no fool LOL). Popping up is Cafe Collage in Oregon House. Excuse me? What? Okay...let's have a looksy. Yelpers are specific enough that I'm sold. I called and left a message to get a reservation at 6pm. Their machine lets you know that you'll only hear back from them if there's a problem. So off we go, and after a 55 minute drive, we arrive. They had our name and sat us immediately. There were a few people there already, and more continue to arrive. I think I counted 34 seats in the room we were in, and there's about 12-ish seats in another room. I was amazed at the fact that it felt both busy and serenely calm at the same time. Exactly the atmosphere you want. They have a diverse wine list with reds and whites by the glass and bottle, and to my delight, a port. We ordered up a couple of ports to peruse the menu. So many options...hard to choose. I decided on the cioppino and my girlfriend chose the moussaka. Did you catch that? Cioppino and Moussaka in Oregon House? Okay...just checking. It definitely took a little time for it to come out. We didn't care. We drank port, had another, talked to each other, and marveled at all the people coming in to fill up the restaurant. And a word on attire: this is one of the few places I've been that one would feel comfortable in their jeans and nice shirt and hiking shoes or tennis shoes (as I was in) or perking it up a little to be more dressy. Everything was okay. We got the Cioppino and Moussaka and...yum, yum, yum. I loved that the mussels were shelled for me. I'm sure that's not traditional, but I don't care. I've had enough mussel dishes that I'm telling you right now that it's a pleasure to have them pre-shelled. The flavor in the Cioppino sauce was so good...just enough spice, but not too much...and there was ahi and another fish I'm forgetting and shrimp in addition to the mussels. My girlfriend absolutely loved the Moussaka. And ps, it was big enough that she took a quarter of it home. Dessert: wasn't going to order it, because I was explodingly full, but girlfriend wanted chocolate mousse, so I couldn't sit there with nothing..I got the Meyer Lemon Sabayon. Like a light version of mousse. Oh.MY.Gawd. Soooo good. Truly. See my photos. I have dined on food from Cafe Collage about 10 times, either in the restaurant, or take-out, as we live nearby. The food has always been remarkable. Recently 10 of us got together and dined in the new, 12-seat, location. Salim and staff were friendly, and considerate, and everyone said that their meals were delicious. Who would ever have thought to find Michelin-level food way out here in the foothills? If I had to explain the experience of eating here with good friends, Babette's Feast comes to mind. Chef Salim really delivers. You can feel his love of cooking emanating from each bite. Each of us felt we had the most delicious dish and did not covet the others. I had the French Cassoulet, it was to die for (I'm still day dreaming about it!). The European-style pizza was crispy and scrumptious. CONS: Due to its relatively remote location, you have to REALLY plan to go. I wished there were more Renaissance wines by the glass; wine is pricey. Dining at a slower time in an empty (or near-empty) dining room is a bit awkward, but it's also an opportunity to engage with staff about the food and area. REVIEW: This place has been on my radar for a couple of years ... On July 26, we were in the area on a Sunday to drop off kids at Lake Francis' Camp Rockin' U, so we arrived around 5:30 pm and were quickly seated in the lovely, colorfully decorated dining area. For the entire hour-plus of our dining time, we were the only customers, which at first seemed a bit weird. But chef Salim checked on us personally and we had some nice conversations about his experiences in Tunisia, Greece and locally. Very interesting man of many talents. Seeing a lot of wine bottles at the upper limit of our price threshold, we opted for wine by the glasses. The first two (white and red) were OK, but we inquired about Renaissance wines produced nearby and Salim soon produced a very nice Syrah off the menu. Thank you! Since the restaurant has a connection to Renaissance, I'm hoping more of that wine can be available -- at least by the glass. It's very good wine that's very hard to find retailed. My girlfriend ordered the Greek moussaka, which is like an eggplant/ground beef/mozzarella lasagna. The meat is spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon. Great stuff, and a good value at $19 (including a nice mixed greens house salad. I ordered the cassoulet, not really knowing what to expect. Wow! This amazing, rich stew/casserole of southern France was made very traditionally with lamb shank and duck braised in red wine, with andouille sausage, white beans and a garnish of young string beans. It also came with a house salad. The cassoulet was so savory and rich. I appreciated that both dishes were served in oven-hot pottery which kept the food hot through the entire meal. Sadly, there was no room for dessert, but the dessert menu looked great. I want also to mention the light and fluffy homemade bread was served with a hummus. Very tasty. We also ordered the house-made mix olives appetizer, which was excellent. There was enough left over to take home. Same with the cassoulet. I came in with high expectations and they were exceeded.
