They can really deck out the exterior dining a little bit. Lea and other shop has such a great decor and it's a missed opportunity. Great spot for drink and the quality is good. I got drunk after one mag and that usual but it's delicious. Free salsa and we order some guac to go with the drinks. We will be back comes spring and summer.

Food was delicious. Had a veggie burrito and a margarita. Perfect meal! Highly recommend.

Huevos Rancheros Salsa Verde, Tacos con Todo, rice and beans

After frequenting the Taqueria across the street a few times, we finally decided to give Mexico Diner a shot to compare and contrast... and BOY there sure is some stiff competition out here on Cortelyou Rd! First off, the al pastor tacos con todo ($4.45/each) here takes the crown. The meat is delicious and on the sweeter side, and my bf personally likes how the pineapple is more subtle here whereas Taqueria gives you larger chunks of the fruit. But maybe this is an unfair battle since Mexico Diner gives you a "con todo" option - in addition to the onions/cilantro, you also get lettuce, tomato, cheese & cream. Overall it's tastier. Similar in size and can fill you up after having just 2-3. We got takeout twice in a span of a week. One of the times we tried the guac & chips ($12) and pico de gallo & chips ($6.95) - both very good. Another time we tried the rice and beans (definitely better than Taqueria) and the cafe de olla aka homemade cinnamon Mexican coffee - we ordered this black and then added our own almond milk at home. I LOVED it. The not-so-greats include the Huevos Rancheros and the torta... just nothing too special about these two. The torta tasted like a very basic breakfast sandwich that I could make at home, and can be skipped. Both Mexican spots are really great and I don't want to play favorites (yet) but this one really surprised me. Guess I will continue eating through the menu at each spot a few more times to see which one reigns superior.

Mojarra Frita

Not bad! Not bad at all. I'm pretty sure that I've ordered from Mexico diner before but I think that I got tacos the first time around. If you're familiar with my reviews, then you know that I already have a go to Taqueria, so that's really the reason why I don't order from here as much. I can't really say much about their tacos, but one thing I can say, is that if I didn't like them, I definitely would have remembered. So there's that. Last night I got a serious craving for Mojarra Frita and searched all of Uber eats to find a spot with good ratings and price point. I haven't had it since I was in California a few years ago and I've noticed that it's not a super popular dish here. A lot of Mexican restaurants don't even offer it. And then the ones that do either charge an arm and a leg or don't have reliable ratings. I thought $18.95 was decent. I was told that it came with a little salad, as well as rice and beans and tortillas on the side. At first glance, it looked good. I liked that they packed the rice and beans separately from the fish. I didn't like that it came in an aluminum container like the fish did. It was super easy to just pop the container of fish in the oven to reheat, but it was an annoying hassle transferring the rice and beans to a microwave safe dish being that they were packed together. I really liked the rice here, I typically don't like most Mexican rice. It's a texture thing for me, I can't really explain it. This rice however I loved, it paired well with the black beans. I'm pretty sure it was parboiled. I just wish they would have given more! If they were to give you two separate containers of rice and beans this would be a perfect portion for 2 people. The fish was seasoned really well, you could literally see the marinade they used on the inside. Also, it was cooked perfectly. Overall, I will be making sure to order more consistently. It's not an easy feat to have great reviews on both Yelp and Google as well as Ubereats. They're obviously doing something right. Can't wait to try out more of the menu!

Lunch special - Enchiladas Verdes by Mexico Diner
Marie S.

Mexico Diner has great lunch specials! I tried out their takeout/delivery yesterday. I ordered a few tacos & the Enchiladas Verdes lunch platter special. The lunch special included 2 corn tortilla enchiladas stuffed with chicken and topped off with green tomatillo sauce, queso fresco, fresh lettuce and red onions, crema Mexicana plus rice and black beans on the side. The fresh juice was omitted from my order; the food was super fresh and delicious. The lunch special was more than enough for one person in terms of portion size. The spice level was mild, not overpowering -- hot sauce was included on the side. I'm a big fan of corn tortillas (versus flour tortillas) and I'd say their corn tortillas are good (the ones I had in Mexico were tastier) but theirs were fine. Overall, Mexico Diner an excellent restaurant for authentic style Mexican cuisine. The lunch special was delicious; the prices are reasonable for the neighborhood.

Really noce place, good service, ample portions at a fair price. An old friend lives nesr here and I had always wanted to try it but never had the opportunity until my family was in town. The chips were flour--not my fave, bit very good example of same. The salsa served with them was chunky, fresh, and layered with flavors--not something w have found anywhere in our home town of Portland. My only complaint with it was that they tagged it with some sugar--nothing you'd notice on the first several bites, but it creeps up and is a touch annoying for my palate. Probably not something that would bother or be noticed by many. We had an avocado salad, vegetable enchiladas, cheese enchiladas and fish tacos. The salad was fresh and, by design, the dressing came on the side. This was a nice touch, since many places overdress their greens. A bit of a surprise, and more traditional than you would get in America. By this, I mean that the cheese inside was not melted mozzarella, but chunks of Cotija. It was mild and pleasant, although the green sauce was a little spicy for the kids. The three fish tacos were generous, filled with quite a lot of tilapia, and came garnished with some radish and lime. They were not the best fish tacos, but they were fresh and pleasant. The kids each got an horchata, and both really liked it. My older one is a bit of an horchata connoisseur and he gave it top ratings. My kids give this place 3.5 stars, and on food alone, I somewhat agree with them. I've rounded up because the value proposition is so good, and the workers clearly care. I suspect that meat eaters might bump this even higher to 4.25.

Nachos with steak my friend I couldn't wait to dress it with the green sauce and devour

Great food! Yummy and good portions. however the service was mediocre. We had to wave down the server multiple times. Would come again.

Love little hole in the wall places! Girlfriend and I decided to come by last night. The place was empty inside but the kitchen was crazy! This place is clearly popular for take out since they were flying out throughout the night. We both saw this as a good sign. We started off with some guacamole and ordered the steak quesadillas as well as some fish tacos. Everything was delicious and fresh. Service was great too, very friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Prices are very reasonable as well. Everything came out to a little over $40 without tip. Will definitely be ordering from here again.

Ya never know. This used to be part of the charm, but now it's a liability because friends (and other chefs in the neighborhood) never want to go to Diner because...ya never know what it'll be. Diner has never coasted on continuity. They change up the menu every day. They write it on the paper tablecloth, for Chrissakes. But I still love that! I still find most of the food to be delicious (if pricey), I still think their cocktails are well-made (even if their bar is weirdly slow) and I love their brunch and I love the vibe, and I'm glad it's still here. Their Caesar salad is overrated, as is the burger, but they're always mixing it up. You could get lucky. Ya never know...

But if you're looking for some excellent, straight forward, wonderfully crafted simplicity, this is in your wheelhouse. A quesadilla is a quesadilla, a hamburger a hamburger. Sounds boring? Not when your hamburger and quesadilla are amongst the best you've ever had at any diner, anywhere. Our waitress was very nice and allowed us to dine, unbothered. We ordered a fresh fruit platter for dessert. It included watermelon, mango, grapes, apples, strawberries, etc. very nice, well presented. The dining area certainly belies what happens in that kitchen behind the door. I'll be back to try some more simple, but excellent food.

This spot has a handful of tables and while we were there, quite a few to-go orders were picked up as well. Though we were the only diners, so I assume it's more of a breakfast/brunch spot. The menu is rather expansive with options from breakfast to lunch and dinner. After studying the menu, we opted for the Veggie Burger and the Meatball Parm Po'Boy. Our food was ready in about 20 minutes, which seemed a little long as we were the only diners, but we were not in a rush so it was fine. As the restaurant was unassuming, I honestly had pretty low expectations, but we both really enjoyed our meals. It was definitely large portions and really flavorful. My fiance said the Meatball Parm Po'Boy was delicious and I appreciated that the veggie burger seemed to be made in house as it was falling apart (in a good way) and you could distinguish some of the veggies. I ended up only eating about half of my burger and took the rest for lunch the next day and it held up well.

Lots of lettuce, not overly anchovy and just the croutons were soft and crisp at the same time? very much enjoyed how big of a portions all of these items were. chicken parm sauce was tangy and had good flavoring with the perfect melted cheese on top of the soft but crisp edges of the chicken. i'd highly recc all three items we got! service was quick once we got seated and was nice to be outside in the warm weather.

While they have all the traditional breakfast fare, I was so happy to see it also had a Caribbean twist to it. I couldn't help myself--I had to order rice and beans with pernil (pork shoulder) and a side of sweet plantains. Of course, I wanted some actual breakfast items, so we got the French toast loaded with fruit. We also got both the tres and quatro golpes, which is a traditional Dominican breakfast. Lastly, we got a Caribbean omelet. My rice and pernil was solid. The rice could've used a tad bit more seasoning but when mixed with the side of beans and plantains plus a drizzle of hot sauce it was perfect. They had a variety of sauces--Tabasco (my fave), a Jamaican one that was super spicy, and a mild homemade one. The tres/quatro golpes was also a hearty choice with mangu (mashed plantain), sausage, fried cheese, and eggs. The pickled red onion balanced everything out. The fried cheese is similar to a halloumi but I think it's a bit more flavorful. All the flavors just melt together in your mouth perfectly. The French toast and omelet were good. I'd say the Caribbean items stole the show though. The place has a typical diner vibe and is on the small side. Food was served quickly and service was good. Discount if you pay in cash. Apparently there is more than one location in Manhattan. The inside reminded me of a classic diner. Comfy and with a pretty cool vibe. We all slid into a booth and looked over the seasonal offerings along with their standard menu. I was lured by the chicken Kyiv based on the picture of having two rolled up chicken cutlets stuffed with dill and other yumminess, but was a bit disappointment when it arrived with a single small cutlet on my plate with two heaping mounds of potatoes mash and broccoli. I instantly had regret when I should have gotten the borscht soup with pierogies, but wanted to try something I wouldn't usually. I should've stuck to what was safe. My work mom got the stuffed cabbage and that was a clear homerun- really loved the mushroom gravy that it came with. My other colleague got the potato pancake and wasn't too thrilled with it, while my boss got the two Swedish meatballs that he described to be Ikea worthy. Although this was my first time here, I can't say that anyone really loved the food nor would come out of their way to come back. I really was hoping this would have wow-ed me in some way, but I guess I'll stick to what's familiar.

Cuisine: 7 Service: 9…read moreDecor: 8 Value: 7 Overall: 8 I have always been a fan of the original Veselka in Manhattan since my days in college, so finally visiting the new Williamsburg location is well overdue. A friend and I each got a soup to start our meal, along with sharing a Potato Pancake. The Matzoh Ball Soup and Potato Pancake were good, but not great. However, I enjoyed the Pork & Cabbage Soup enough to take home a quart. For entree, we shared a Deluxe Meat Plate that was quite delicious. All three pierogi flavors were great, but the short rib was my favorite, followed closely by the mushroom & sauerkraut. I also really enjoyed the grilled kielbasa, but sadly it was served at room temperature. Lastly, the stuffed cabbage is not usually my thing, yet I liked this version. Once again, it was served barely warm. Thankfully, we finished on a high note. My friend really wanted the Challah Bread Pudding, which was moist and tasty. However, the lovely waitress advised us strongly to try the Medovyk. This Ukrainian layered honey cake had a wonderful texture, not too creamy or sweet, with a great walnut flavor. We were extremely happy with her suggestion. We also really liked the diner vibes that felt warm and inviting. This was so close to a five star review. The main reason for the deduction was the temperature of our food being served. Hopefully that problem will be solved on my next visit.
