From the best French 75 I've ever had, so the best lobster bisque I've ever had, to fantastic creamed spinach, a beautiful steak and yummy chocolate cake, it was a truly memorable meal. My only quibble is with the size of the cake: I should have known from the look on Michael's face that it was a dessert meant to be shared with a group--a large group! Had a bottle of Clio 2022, recommended by the wine professional, my girlfriend asked for wines from Spain. I asked if we could see the cellar and we got to see it. Amazing!! The Metropolitan Grill was recommended as the top spot for fine dining and steaks in Seattle by the staff at my hotel. I looked over the menu and noted that the selection felt a bit outdated, but I gave in to groupthink and decided to give it a try. Well, I'm here to say that there are definitely better steakhouses in Seattle--with better service--as I've dined at many. To start, my server was on autopilot, literally reciting the menu as if it were a script and not listening to my questions. I specifically asked for a non-sweet martini, and it arrived with sugar on the rim. I ordered the filet mignon, and to my surprise, it came with ribbons of silverskin still attached. That's unacceptable for a steak at this price point--silverskin should never make it to the plate in a fine dining establishment. The creamed spinach was overly salty and overwhelmed by a layer of cheddar cheese on top, which ruined the dish. The wine list was extensive, but the wine steward seemed impatient and uninterested in helping me choose a bottle I would enjoy. My takeaway: I tried it, and I don't need to return--nor would I recommend it. read more

I do have to say that the tipping process at this establishment is a slap in the face to the hard working, knowledgeable, and incredibly exceptional staff. The automatic 20% tip goes to everyone but the server. They get a percentage of the total sale and after the 20% gratuity should you choose to tip more that's what the server receives. As a former server I'm acutely aware that you're taxed for at least 15% on the bill, whether or not the you receive that from the patron. It is absolutely explained on the receipt but I was appalled that the person that does the most work directly with the customer is not rewarded to them for their excellent service. It's given to everyone else and they pay the taxes on that even if they don't receive an additional tip. We did tip much more once we read that in the receipt but it's a huge disservice to the actual server. Imagine how many people don't add an additional tip to the server without realizing that they don't get anything other than a percentage of the total bill. High end restaurants should not be functioning this way. If the tip is included in the bill, that should go to the server not everyone else but them. We were here at a private business event. It wasn't perfect, but the things they did well were fantastic. We have some killer steakhouses in Chicago; we live right by Gibson's. The Wagyu ribeye we got here was a top-notch, world-class steak. They nailed the seasoning and temperature, and the steak had a ton of flavor. The king salmon and crème brûlée were pretty great. On the other hand, the chocolate mousse cake was forgettable. The lobster bisque was so thick it was actually unappealing; it was like lobster pudding. The sauces that came with the steak and potatoes were gross. I don't know what they were supposed to be, but what looked like gravy had no taste except for excess salt and pepper. Some of the asparagus was woody. The good definitely outweighs the bad here. That ribeye is the best steak west of the Mississippi. We came here to celebrate a work promotion and were greeted with kindness from a server that remembered the whole night that we were celebrating a promotion. We shared a delicious french onion soup while sipping our martinis. They really do make a fantastic martini, even for those who are fairweather martini fans. We sampled a number of steak types which was really fun to make comparisons across different types of wagyu. But dessert was almost the highlight of the whole meal. The interior of this restaurant is gorgeous, from the lighting, to the music, and the decor. Our service was amazing the whole night and the waiters were very helpful. Between 4 people, we ordered the long bone ribeye (more than enough for each person), clam chowder, caesar salad, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and the yukon cakes. Everything was delicious and the flavor was perfect. The bread and butter were also really good. We had a great night of celebration and the meal was amazing. It's been 7 months since my last review. We visited The Met again last night as guests of our generous friend, Bob. Bob has been patronizing this establishment since it first opened over 40 years ago. There is a certain energizing vibe at the Met. All around, you could see waitstaff hustling and diners enjoying their meals. We were led promptly to a table towards the back and greeted by our gregarious waiter Todd. Although we were familiar with the menu and had good idea on what we wanted, we allowed him to educate us on the various types and cuts of meat. Todd has been with the Met for 25 years so what does that tell you? We started with crab leg appetizer for Bob and bone marrow for my husband and I to share. We both vulture-eyed Bob as he ate the chunky crab thighs. It was hubby's first time trying bone marrow; he is now a fan. The two of us ordered the boneless ribeye while Bob got the bone-in ribeye similar to our last visit. The charred exterior and flavor was prefect. Next time I order ribeye, I might have it cooked medium well instead of medium. The marbled fat and rareness made it a bit hard to chew. We enjoyed it nevertheless along with the tender asparagus side. Dessert was banana foster no less. The preparation fire show was fun to watch. The portion can be shared by 4; 2 was a bit overwhelming in a good way. Our dinner lasted 2.5 hours but it didn't feel drawn out like last time. The main difference was Todd. He was engaging and paced all the courses well. Paul the manager kept his word to ensure a better experience. Mission accomplished! We look forward to our next visit to this Seattle gem where the food, service and ambiance warrant a 5-star rating. read more

I had my 63rd birthday dinner last night with my family and I am NOT one to complain about food or service, in fact rarely. I do, however, believe when you're paying top dollar for a decent steak dinner at a well-known steakhouse that your pretty safe. Unfortunately, this was my third time here. I was greatly disappointed AGAIN. Not only did they seat us at the worst table in the back near the kitchen. My husband Ordered the long bone steak for two, presentation of all our food was amazing. However, when you order a long bone steak for two, it should arrive to your table at the very least warm. Our son and Husband did not want to send it back after we encouraged them much of the night. Now I can say that the appetizers were on point, oysters on the half shell, and smoked bacon glazed pork belly was divine. I had the regular boneless ribeye, Ceasar salad and cream spinach. I had to ask for salt because when I tell you that was the most tasteless steak I have ever had, not to mention the steak was way too fatty and had a lot of tough tendons or lining which was very chewy. The creamed spinach was very bland also and no flavor. Another peeve was our main server disappeared several times, once all the food was delivered to our table he never came back to see if our steaks were prepared as requested, (most steakhouses take this time) oversight or didn't care? doesn't matter at this point, Metropolitan Grill you failed yet again. And the last is the 20% service charge added to the total bill of which the servers do not see. This amount is for the house??? In any event, we will not come back just because the food was a huge disappointment. read more

Prompt responses and amazing recommendations along with the best parings for it. To start off I really wanted espresso martini but creamy and bold, but it wasn't in the official menu written down, but he made it happen. Along with them having my husband's favorite whiskey, Eagle rare just that alone made his night. The oysters was phenomenal We only ordered a half a dozen because we're taking two desserts home so we didn't wanna fill up too much but we wish we had gotten more, very fresh made to perfection. The carrots was very yummy. I was already full halfway through my own entrée, so I was not able to finish it, which was unfortunate. My husband's meal was made perfectly and seasoned just right however, my steak was teetering more towards Well done instead of my requested medium rare, but the flavor was so delicious and I didn't want to wait again by sending it back.However, for how much I spent, I should've brought it up. Also, if you're not a fan of tipping your server, even though they provided you amazing service...you won't like this place. I believe it was a 20% mandatory service charge, which I had no issue with, I also tipped on top. But for more frugal people that might shock you a bit. Overall I had a lovely experience. They had beautiful music playing, great lighting, good people, good food. They even sent a follow-up email asking how my dining experience was. This is one of the best meals I have consumed in my entire life. I was looking for a nice steak house to go to on Mothers day that still had reservations. Thankfully I found Metropolitan Grill wide open with reservations so we booked for 7:30. Once arriving we were greeted kindly and payed $15 for valet parking. They seated and tended to us immediately, my first impressions on the place was it was super old school. The place was pretty cramped and small, but they had lots of seats and workers. The service was super fast and the workers were insanely informative on helping us on what to eat. For the drinks we ordered they were just okay, as well as the complementary bread. We decided to order wagyu sense we never had a chance to try it in the past. Our server was very helpful in informing us about the wagyu's, and after some discussion we decided to order the snow wagyu. We also ordered 2 baked potato's, and a 12oz filet minion which was a perfect amount of food to split between 3. And omg this was hands down some of the best food I'd ever had. The meat was honestly just okay, but the complementary sauces that came with the meal took the steaks over the top. I love how they prepare everything to your liking in front of you so you can change or add to your preference. After our exceptional meal we couldn't pass on dessert so we ordered the chocolate cake, and the coconut cake. I have no words to describe how exceptional these 2 cakes were, the best cake I have ever had. They were so good we even asked were they came from, and they informed us they come from a bakery called Finales in Lynnwood. The cakes were so exceptional I devoured both within minutes. This outstanding meal this was one of the best Seattle restaurant experiences I've had in my entire life and cannot recommend this place enough! read more

For the month of January in 2023, there was "Meet at the Met: Enjoy 2 Entrees on Us!" promotion. Four steaks for the price of two sounded like a great deal to experience one of the most famous steakhouses in Seattle. We went on a Sunday evening to take advantage of the free street parking everywhere in downtown. It was a cold January evening with temperature hovering at around 32 degrees. Upon checking in, we were seated in the first 4-person booth by the entrance. This booth would have been fine in any other season but it was really cold and every time the door opened, the cold air from outside came straight at us. We would have loved to be seated closer to the center of the restaurant, far away from the entrance door. The interior, overall ambiance, pictures of celebrities on the wall and raw steak displays all made for an impressive restaurant with impeccable reputation in town. The lighting was slightly dim and there was a small lamp on our table that seemingly served as the decorative focal point. Everything about the restaurant had a premium feel and rightly so. The complimentary bread felt ordinary but the creamy smooth butter made it good and savory. French onion soup had a lot of cheese, which I liked, and it was a good soup overall. However, I found the taste to be a bit on the sweeter side. We also ordered oysters, which were tiny but fresh and very tasty. We decided to go with The Met "Long Bone" Ribeye and two orders of the Japanese A5 beef Olive Beef Filet 4 oz steaks. Our server kindly explained that this particular Japanese beef is best served as slightly overcooked (medium to medium well) so we ordered everything medium well. I wanted to see them carve and slice the Long Bone ribeye in front of us but they came to us already sliced. The two Olive Beef Filets came on a wood block with cooked garlic and carrots. The two Olive Beef Filets were expectedly tiny as 4 oz is technically equivalent to a quarter-pound patty. They seemed way overcooked but once we cut into the steaks, they were very pink inside and very tender. The Olive Beef Filets were very soft and tender as expected but I did not personally find these filets to be extraordinary. I actually found the Long Bone ribeye to be much more savory and flavorful. Perhaps, it is my personal preference of this particular cut of meat. Perhaps, my expectation of the $130 4 oz steak was too high. They were all good steaks but I could not shake away the feeling we could find better value somewhere else. My family of four still enjoyed every minute of being there and enjoying every bite. And for the sides! We had Asparagus with Bearnaise, Four Cheese Mac & Cheese, French Fries, and Baked Potato with everything. They were all great. To finish our meal, even though we were too full for anything else, we ordered their famous 9-layered chocolate cake and it was wonderful. The ice cream complemented the rich but soft chocolate cake in a mouthwatering way. We immensely enjoyed our dinner and I am glad that we were able to use the promotion to try their famous steaks. For us, we could probably find better valued meals elsewhere but I cannot deny that it was a wonderful experience. read more

This was an incredible dining experience. I've lived in Seattle since 2001 and always heard about the met. Finally the time came to make a reservation (which was super easy to do on their website). It's a place to celebrate life. All of the food was incredible from the oysters to the sides to the steaks. I had the American Waygu filet which was by far the best steak I've ever had.
