This diner was cute, quick, and had great customer service. I went with a HUGE group of people as we were celebrating newlyweds. It seemed as though the entire wedding went to breakfast (at least 30 of the 50 guests) and so we had a large table outside. There were 2 servers taking care of us and lots of food runners. I personally didn't hear any mistakes on orders around me and our food came out very quickly. I ordered the basic two egg breakfast with home fries, sausage patties and an English muffin. My husband ordered the San Francisco Benedict and he at the entire thing saying it was delicious. I ate almost my entire plate as well. Other people ordered pancakes, waffles, avocado toast, and other popular breakfast items. Everything looked and smelled delicious and I didn't hear or have any complaints. Kudos to our servers as people arrived at different times and food was constantly being ordered and coming to the table. They were both great at making sure everyone had ordered, had refills, and enough items on the table to enjoy our food. They also managed to pre bus the table so we could enjoy our space with such a large group. I never felt as though the servers were frustrated and they maintained a great attitude. I really appreciated this as I know how difficult large parties can be for servers. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in town looking for a yummy breakfast at a homey place. read more

In St. Augustine there are lots of touristy places, but for those of us that live here and don't want to get into the downtown hoohah, there are surprisingly fewer choices. The Metro Diner is one of the really good ones. Top notch service, really clean, and excellent food. I had their own corned beef hash, soft poached eggs, toast, and coffee. It was great! The manager was around making sure everyone was happy. The Ancient City branch of this local chain is a great option. Easy to recommend the Metro Diner. read more

I've been there several times and gotten various different items on the menu; I've always been happy with both the food and the service. Even on weekends when they're packed, they manage to get you in within a reasonable time. Was a little leary at first walking in. Person that greeted and seated us must have been having a bad day - not very friendly. We sat for a few minutes before anyone ever came to our table. Brittany ended up being our server - Metro should be thankful for her. She brought her A game for sure. She is the reason we stayed. Our dinner was on point. Philly Cheese Steak - mac n cheese was amazing. Chicken n Waffles - Oh My - you should definately try - Pot Roast was a little off but it was the end of day. We've always gone to the location on Hendricks. We live in St Augustine and decided to try out the new location. So glad we did! Had the Monte Cristo, which was a special today, fried sourdough sandwich stuffed w/ ham, turkey, cheddar, American, topped with powdered sugar, and served with raspberry preserve. We stopped in today for breakfast as this is generally our go to for breakfast food. When we walked in there were a few people ahead of us waiting to put their name in for the wait list, the hostess was MIA. The hostess showed up about 5 minutes of us all standing around, she made no eye contact did not greet anyone with a simple "hello" or "I'll be right with you" it was as if we were all invisible. When it was our turn to be seated "two? " didn't look at us, or greet us appropriately, she slammed the silverware and menus on the table and walked away with her wearing a white mask with a huge yellow stain in the middle of it. The place was not that busy as it's generally super busy. The table next to us were very irritated (rightly so) we got our food before them (they were there before us) their server forgot to put their order in. I understand understaffing is an issue, I get it. Our server was pleasant, Yes we tipped generously. A first impression starts the service, the hostess is the face at the door, she lacked common courtesy and being NICE wasn't her strong suit. And please wash your mask. read more

We were very disappointed. I can't blame just Yelpers on this one as the deciding factor for us was actual positive testimony from a local. I was a bit suspicious already because I have never had great fare at a self-titled 'Diner', but really felt good about this changing. I've always thought the diner purpose was to slow eat a forgettable meal while enjoying time with a friend or family member. And this thought remains strong with our Metro Diner experience. Arnold Palmer with unsweetened tea for me and an unsweetened tea for the lady. Ice cold and great. Service was friendly and fast. Maybe too fast, but I'll never take points off for that regardless. It's just worth noting that the intention here is for high table turnovers. I ordered the Tomato Bisque and could tell immediately that it wasn't homemade. It was clearly released from its packaging mold and heated. It was thick, gelatinous and I suspect full of preservatives as they likely buy this in a bag from a cut rate vendor. That being said though, the flavor wasn't terrible. Again, I expect this from a 'Diner'. I ordered the Vortex Burger and she the Fried Chicken Platter. Both were spectacularly sub average. The Vortex Burger basically replaces a bun with two grilled cheese sandwiches. My medium ordered patty was predictably well done and came with that stale over cooked style bacon traditionally found sad and flavorless at a breakfast buffet. Her fried chicken was tasteless. Batter, yes. Seasoning, no. Publix is superior by comparison and much cheaper. We barely ate half our meals and got the rest in a doggy bag. The portions are indeed generous and our two beagles will eat like kings tonight. read more

The staff was friendly, although not always around when you needed them. The Metro Melt (burger with swiss and grilled onions on toasted rye) was good. Not outstanding, but worth eating. The kids menu left something to be desired. The regular menu was filled with great sounding items, but the kids menu was left with only 4 standards (not even a burger!) Overall decent experience. My wife and I like food...a lot. So when we travel, our meals are planned in the same manner as our activities; they're that important to us. Needless to say this was our first time at Metro Diner. I didn't think it was possible but somehow these guys perfectly executed three of my favorites dishes...corned beef hash, fried chicken, and waffles. I do not really care for diner food, just not my thing. However, we stopped in here for a late breakfast early lunch. We saw some of the Yelp reviews and decided to give it a go. The food was amazing. The home fries were cooked perfectly, not to greasy and with just enough crispy bits. I ordered the veggie omelet and it was 1/2 my plate. It was fluffy and overstuffed with fresh cooked veggies. My husband got the fish wrap and the fish was flaky and blackened perfectly. We moved inside because the lawn maintenance was flinging dirt and mulch towards us on the patio and creating a huge racket. They were still seating people out there after another couple got up and left because of it. After we got inside we noticed that the floor was super gross dirty, sticky, and covered in food. It's just another diner. Nothing special. The menu is just like every other diner in the US so you don't even really need it. It gets pretty busy but plenty of parking outside. Our food was decent nothing spectacular. The fries were frozen and there was a lot of them. The entrees were so-so. No big deal. After a short wait we were seated in this classic diner. It felt like a southern rendition of Jerry Seinfeld's favorite diner--lots of character without beating you over the head with theming. We ordered the kids chicken fingers with a biscuit (the prerequisite item to determine a breakfast spot's worthiness), cheeseburger benedicts and a classic Monte Cristo. Expectations were high based on the inventive menu and word-of-mouth. The coffee was fantastic and the earthenware mugs and advertising placemats complete the homey feel. Breakfast arrived pretty quickly although the Monte Cristo was a tad late. Our waitress brought a biscuit so no one had to eat alone--nice touch. The place for late breakfast. It was a wait list for about 45 mins. It wasn't bad at all. They provided the seats out front for everyone who were waiting to get in. We decided to check out the menu before hand so, we could be ready to place the order right away. Jay, she was our waitress. Very friendly and helpful. During our meals, things were excellent and we all enjoyed our meals. She came to checked on us and refilled my coffee twice which was very attentive. I know they are a busy restaurant, so our table had to leave before my daughter and I came back from the restroom. I still wanted to enjoy my coffee but the table has been cleared. Jay came around offering me a cup of coffee Togo and it was awesome that I didn't missed anything. My daughter got another cup of milk as she couldn't find her first cup either. Would love to recommended this place for anyone. Foods were excellent, could be a bit delay coz of the high volume of business they do but if very forgivable. Been here every once a week, every week for the past 6 weeks on Monday or Tuesday. Service has been good, but was outstanding today. Her name was Alexis. Around when you need her and not intrusive when you don't. Outstanding. Food has been good to very good. Poached eggs are tough to get right. I get it. Over done today. Continuing to improve. It was tasty BBQ pulled pork (I think before plating it, they seared it on the flat top so it would stay together) on top of creamy cheesy mac-n-cheese, on top of a cornbread waffle with a sweet BBQ sauce drizzle. We tried this place after seeing it was on Diners Drive-ins and Dives and it ended up being one of the best places to eat in St Augustine. They serve strawberry butter with their chicken and waffles but you'll want to ask for it with your pancakes (or whatever else) too. Sometimes there's a little wait to be seated so it's good to get there early. The food and service are so worth it though. read more

What every good diner should be. The Oscar Omelet breakfast special was stuffed with crab. The fried tomato on the fried green tomato Benedict could've been crispier but didn't get in the way of demolishing the entire plate. Homefries (with bacon, mushrooms, and onions) and all!! The grits were creamy and well cooked but the claim of "cheesiest grits" fell flat when all it was was their normal grits topped with melted cheese. Don't get me wrong it's delicious but as "cheesiest" maybe mix some cheese into the bowl as well as the mound melted on the surface. Definitely worth a visit. read more

This review is unrelated to food service; rather, it's regarding management and customer service. On Thursday 10/13 I had a late lunch with family and took my bracelet off to play with my niece. I left it on the table when we finished and didn't realize it until I was 10-15 minutes into my drive back to Jacksonville. I called right away and spoke with the manager that day, Stephanie, who assured me it was found and would be placed in the office with a note that it was mine and that I would return to pick it up. When I came to get it the next afternoon, Ira, the manager that day, could not find it and could not get in touch with Stephanie to ask about it. I explained that it was a sentimental piece of jewelry, a gift from my mother who had passed away this year. I was assured he would contact her and figure it out and then call me. I was never called. Instead, I have called repeatedly and spoken to multiple managers and staff and given the same response - 'your bracelet was here but now we can't find it.' It's now 3 weeks later, I have not been contacted, and I have not been given an explanation of how my bracelet went missing after being placed in their office with my contact information. Between a manager having possession of it and my coming to pick it up the next day, where did it go? I'm devastated by the loss of a sentimental gift and enormously frustrated at the staff's lack of concern over what I can only assume was a theft of my bracelet. read more
