Wow! Highly recommend. Food was great. Kitchen and wait staff work at a high intensity. We will be back when we are in Gainesville.

It took me a long time to check this place out, but after all the positive things I heard I could wait no more and it definitely did not disappoint! Delicious food, reasonable prices and speedy service makes this a great spot! read more

We stopped by on our way back from the beach. The ratings were good and I'd much rather support a local. Everything was good and prices seemed fair. Host/manager/? Owner? Greeted us and came back to check on us. Up your vegetarian options a wee bit and I would be here all the time if I lived in Jacksonville. read more

Time service for how busy the place was, great portions for a great price. I usually eat a lot but couldn't finish everything. Place was a little bit dirty with some leftover food under the table but that's all part of the lunch rush! read more

The spicy honey chicken biscuit is SO good! I usually don't like honey and biscuits, I'm a gravy person but this sandwich was so good. Everyone should try it once read more

This place has the best food and service I've eaten there a few times and everyone is really friendly.

Dear Lord, Thank you for bringing this diner into my life!! Gainesville has been screaming for a place like this for years!! We just finished the best meal we've had in ages. I had the fried chicken platter and my hubby had the "hala around the corner" which has to be experienced and not read about! Mine was out-of-this-world and my husband hasnt been able to speak he's so happy!!! Saturday and Sunday expect a wait but trust me when I say it will be so worth it!! The menu has delicious sounding options, lunch and dinner something for everyone!! HUGE portions. Family friendly, booths and tables, casual, awesome servers (Brooklyn was amazing!!!) seriously, go!!! Its our new go to, may even come back in the morning for breakfast!!! read more

Metro Diner - Fried chicken (best I've had!!) mashed potatoes and gravy, zucchini and squash fresh and baguette - Diners Near Me - Gainesville, Florida

Great Food and even better service. The wait on a Sunday didn't take long at all. I would recommend anyone to try this Diner. Great Family experience read more

The mexican food is really bad and the hash browns are frozen and fried. I will not be returning and am back on the hunt for a good breakfast spot on G-town. read more

The food was excellent and the service was great as well. We have eaten at the original in Jacksonville many times over the years and glad to have them here in Gaivesville. Portions are big and the service is fantastic. Go there and enjoy the food and the laid back atmosphere. read more

Great food! Great service! Servings are huge! Great place anytime of the day! The crab cake eggs Benedict was amazing, and the peach tea was a thirst- quencher. We came on a Saturday night 45 mins before closing, and seating was no problem. read more

Great comfort food at very reasonable prices!

My husband and I were in Gainesville visiting Shands. He had heard good reviews. It took them awhile to wait on us. The place wasn't packed but I saw people who came in after us getting waited on before us which is a personal pet peeve. While we waited on our food (to be fair the food was delivered quickly), I saw a server bus a table and his process was making me lose my appetite. He poured fluids from the glasses and cups into one water glass (nauseating) then left his spray cleaner bottle and dirty rag on the table as he brought the glasses and plates to the kitchen. When he finally came back he did a quick swish with spray bottle and rag on the table top. There is a reason that bus boys carry a tub when they clean a table. It's so customers don't see the dirty glasses and plates. Then our food arrived. My husband had eggs Benedict and I had the famous meatloaf plate. My husband said he's had better and worse. That was his take translated to mediocre. My meatloaf was not a delicious delight. It was an overpeppered slab of unattractive meat. The mashed potatoes were decent and the fresh green beans very good. The thick brown gravy helped the meatloaf but the gravy was also peppered and after a few bites I couldn't eat anymore because the volume of pepper just overpowered my tastebuds and with everything I have described made me lose my appetite. Please understand that my criticism is not hateful. I was truly disappointed and had been looking forward to eating good diner food. My husband and I would choose homey diner food over a 5 star restaurant. Also, lest you think I cannot handle spicy food I grew up in New Orleans and have experienced hole in the wall fantastic food and 5 star fantastic food. I know what truly good food tastes like. I also didn't care for the unsanitary table cleaning. I thought that adhering to a strict sanitary protocol would be an imperative concern. My husband and I have not had even one bout of Covid and we both have major health conditions. I firmly believe that the spread of Covid resulted from people not using surgical gloves not masks protects more. Our hands touch a multitude of things and removing masks doesn't help at all if your unsanitary hands touch your face. Sorry for digressing but I was leading up to the point that I will never go to that restaurant again. It's not an issue of food that should have been better but unprofessional sanitary practice. I have one other professional concern. I do not wish to follow a hostess to a table when her shorts are so short her cheeks are on display. read more

Portions are HUGE!! I love coming here for the chicken and waffles, but I always get the chicken strips, cause I don't wanna deal with the bones. Quite a long wait when I visited last, but its worth it for this awesome food. Definitely will come back! read more

This place is really good! It sometimes gets really busy especially on game day weekends. Every experience I've had so far has been great from the food to my waiter. It is also pretty fast even when it is busy. read more

I had high hopes on what I heard, but I was underwhelmed. I had the cheesesteak, which didn't have much flavor and the roll was hard instead of crunchy. read more

The food is pretty good. The service isn't very consistent. The wait is always very long, no matter what day it is. Nothing crazy good though in my experience. read more

Terrible food. too much oil and grease in everything. Nothing seems to be fresh. I went with a group of friends based on the good reviews but this is like heart attack on a plate. Meat has too much fat in it too. We went for dinner. read more

Not very impressed. I have been to the Jacksonville location and had a great experience (food and service). The food was a bit cold and not too flavorful. I will probably flgive it another chance. read more

Finger lickin good! We had the chicken pot pie, monte christo, mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese and French fries. Service was great. Bring your own wine for dinner. Don't miss this place. The menu was diner huge! read more

Many menu items to choose from. I thought prices were a little absurd (fried chicken and waffles $15.99 compared to $10.99 at Peach Valley, for example) but they definitely give you larger portions here. Coffee was great! Service was very subpar and the restaurant wasn't even busy when we were there (typically it's packed on weekends). I would recommend to anyone who likes diners and is looking for a unique dish along with breakfast staples. read more

I wouldnt necessarily say this has "diner" food, but the food is fantastic! I've had the biscuits and gravy many times and every time it's delicious. I've also had the Reuben which is equally a slam dunk. Their breakfast is always delicious as well. The eggs are always fresh and never have shells (I've always had problems with this). The portions are ENORMOUS. Go with an empty stomach and be ready to eat!!! Parking is always good too! Go on an off day to get food quick. Sometimes service can be slow on busy days, but it's worth the wait! read more

Heard a lot of hype about this place being on DDD. The food was average to say the least. Had the special Turkey pot pie,and it was dry and tasteless. The wife had the meatloaf special and really there was Nothing special about it, it was just ok. Maybe the breakfast is ok but I can't vouch for that. read more

Best diner in Gainesville. Breakfast is amazing. Waffle with strawberry butter... ummm! Home fries and hash browns are awesome. Wait time can be long. read more

Portions are huge, food is great, service is friendly. The only thing I've had there and didn't like was their burgers...they're a little too bland. Otherwise you can't really go wrong with most of their menu choices. I recommend the huevos rancheros and chicken and waffles. read more

This place is THE BOMB. If you wake up and want a huge (and I mean huge) breakfast that taste awesome go here. I got the breakfast pie with a side of corn beef hash and it was amazing. My friend got the 12 inch pancake so I'm going back next week to try that read more

We stop with every visit to Gainesville. Their sandwiches are very good. And friendly service. Stop by and try them out

Loved Metro Diner's breakfast. We went Saturday morning so the wait was 30 minutes, but we were able to sit at the counter for immediate service. Once we were seated, the service was quick. I had the huevos rancheros, which were fantastic. They're served on crispy tortilla shells which made it even better. My wife had one of the daily specials, cinnamon roll pancakes, also amazing. We'll be back read more

Go here just about every weekend for the breakfast! Great FOOD!

This place is a really great restaurant. the menu is eclectic southern and the food is delicious. my only problem with the place is using a slogan like "where locals eat" before even opening your doors! read more

Wasn't sure how'd I feel about diner food, especially in Gainesville since the food scene isn't very developed here. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I had the half portion of chicken and waffles and the chicken was extremely juicy and flavorful and the waffles were fluffy yet crispy. No complaints, would try it again. read more

I've been wanting to try Metro diner since I saw the jax location on DDD. This Gainesville location was only a few months old at the time of my visit but it really felt like they pushed customer service on the crew. My server was indisposed in the back and the hostess made sure we were taken care of. I had the meatloaf and like everything else on the menu it's gigantic! It's also delicious and I can't wait to hit this place up again. read more

I'm not a huge fan of breakfast food so I wouldn't go here if it was up to me to pick a place to eat. I had the fried chicken and waffles and it was decent. The food took a bit long to get out but that might be just because I ate here when they first opened and it was packed. read more

They have the most mouth watering, old school food that just wakes up your tastebuds. I havent eaten such great food since I was a child growing up in the 60's. Keep up the delicious food and staff are lovely read more

Wow! We YELPED for a place to stop as we were passing through Gainesville and Metro Diner sounded like just what we wanted. A fabulously diverse menu with great prices. We could hardly decide What to get because everything sounded so good. We had the incredible chicken salad, the fantastic chili, and the to die for tomato bisque. It was all delicious and we will go back to a Metro Diner every chance we get. Oh, also, the Balsamic salad dressing is the best ever! read more

Always good food. There is a bit of a wait for brunch on the weekends, but the wait is well worth it. Gotta get the pancakes with the fruit.

Ok. Awesome. This place had good vibes. The menu is broad enough to make your decision difficult. All the choices are good. The daily specials sound exciting. I had the turkey plate. The shrimp and grits were good, too. Definitely returning. read more

Have been out of town and couldn't wait to get bsck for their awesome breakfast. That being said, 1030am, not busy or full. Hostess was a miserable bitch with an attitude when told her I wanted a booth. After she smacked her lips , grabbed a menu and tossed it down, then the service sucked!!!! Food was great. Never again at this one! read more
