We were in town for a concert and booked a reservation at Spurrier's Gridiron Grill about a week ahead of time. Definitely glad we did, because I'd highly recommend getting a reservation here. We went on a Saturday around noon and found out they do a buffet brunch until 3pm. I wasn't expecting that at all, but it ended up being awesome. The shrimp and grits were amazing. I don't know what they put in those grits, but they were seriously scrumptious. The chicken wings and sliders were also really good. The place itself is really nice and well put together. Our server was good too and even gave us some recommendations for breweries in the area, which was appreciated. Overall, great food, great service, and a really nice atmosphere. Food options look amazing lots of dishes to choose from. However, this is not a seed oil free restaurant. It can be deceiving when looking at the menu. For example seared in olive oil is mentioned but they leave out it's been marinated in herbs and vegetable oil prior. However an undressed salad and grill item like a prime rib were supposedly not pre marinated. So for the folks trying to eliminate inflammatory seeds oils from their diets or those with soybean or peanut allergies you need to stay away. Since blended cooking oils or vegetable oil can def contain both. Atmosphere is casual and interesting with all the football history about. Make a reservation! This place books up fast and not just on game days. Had a family dinner here - ended up sitting in the bar b/c a table opened up there before our reserved table. The small bar area was fine, but not as nice of a feel as the main side & wait staff is also the bartender (which means he's got a lot going on) so next time will plan ahead better and try the main dining room. Upscale restaurant in nice location at Celebration point. Easy parking. Lots of hostesses ready to check you in and was impressed to see them wiping down the doors almost every 5 min. Service was fine - really nice guy, he was just super busy as the restaurant was full. Appreciated gluten-free items being marked on the menu and that they offer the GF cheese rolls. If you've ever had Brazi Bites, they're pretty much like that but bigger, cheesier and better. Comes with a marinara dipping sauce that we really didn't end up using b/c the bites are better on their own. An order had maybe 6 bites so will need a couple orders if there are more than 3 of you. Didn't love the mocktail but appreciate that they have several to choose from so will try a different one next time. Food came pretty quickly and was presented nicely. Tomahawk pork chop was good. Really enjoyed the carrots. Halibut was pretty good. Small portion so if you have a big appetite, might want to go with the tomahawk. Chicken marsala was meh & surprisingly mashed potatoes weren't great. Not a lot of food. wouldn't order again. Brussel sprouts were quite tasty. We were there late so didn't walk around much, but there's some fun memorabilia to check out. It features his memorabilia including his Heisman Trophy. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating in a sports themed restaurant. I had the House Made Veggie Burger and substituted mashed potatoes instead of fries $21. My burger did not have the barbecue sauce so I had to wait several minutes for it. We ate dinner at the bar Thursday night and had the brunch today. Scarlett at the bar was amazing and gave us space and spent time with us. We appreciated her company and conversation. She knows the area well and even gave us some interesting places to see and / or eat. Today we did the Brunch Buffet and our waitress I believe her name was Madelaine was also equally professional and friendly. She was attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you for a great experience. The Ambiance and sports memorabilia lends a nice atmosphere for dining. It is not pretentious but a great atmosphere. Are you even a Gator if you've been to Gainesville and never been to Spurrier's?! I visited on Valentine's Day -- solo -- as a recent widow, and I honestly wasn't sure how the night would feel. What I didn't expect was to leave full, lifted, and smiling. I grabbed a seat at the bar (full service, first-come-first-served) and started with the shrimp scampi appetizer -- absolutely delicious. Then came a few expertly made cocktails thanks to Anthony, who was attentive without hovering, and Mandy, whose warmth and spirit felt like a hug you didn't know you needed. For dinner, I ordered the filet with miso-charred Brussels sprouts -- perfectly cooked, deeply flavorful, and worth every bite. Now... I never do dessert. But in honor of my late husband -- and his love for carrot cake -- I decided to Spurrier splurge. And I'm so glad I did. The vibe? It felt like end-of-the-third-quarter Gator energy -- all kinds of weather, all kinds of people, all in it because we stick together The food is excellent. The drinks are amazing. Since retiring, I've tried to use some of my extra free time to recognize people and businesses that have genuinely exceeded expectations. In the past eighteen months I've done that seven times. I wish this review could have been number eight, but unfortunately it's the restaurant that finally prompted me to write a negative one. The restaurant had our reservation and our group of four couples was seated promptly, and our server approached shortly afterward. He described several menu items with the confidence and polish of an experienced professional. Based on his, honestly, stellar presentation, I changed my order from the pasta Bolognese to the ribeye. Unfortunately, that introduction proved to be the high point of the evening. Outside of his menu presentation, our server was largely absent. Between taking our order and presenting the dessert menu, the only time we saw him was after someone in our party tracked him down to ask for another round of drinks. Our food was delivered by runners who moved quickly from efficiently moved from seat to seat and avoided eye contact, making it difficult to interact. When my steak was set down, I asked for a steak knife. "You shouldn't need one," the runner replied. "Did you try the knife that's on the table?" She turned and continued serving other tables before I had a chance to answer. The steak itself was a mixed experience. It had an excellent sear and was well seasoned, but it lacked the marbling I'd expect at this price point, with large sections of lean separated by wide seams of fat. More importantly, although I'd ordered it medium rare, it arrived Pittsburgh rare. Ironically, they clearly have a grill capable of producing an excellent crust on a steak less than three-quarters of an inch thick while keeping the interior cold. Another 30 seconds on the grill probably would have solved the problem. Unfortunately, I couldn't get anyone's attention. I went from planning to send it back, to eating around the edges where it was more done, to eventually deciding I was hungry enough to finish it. The bourbon peppercorn sauce I ordered was served on the side in a ramekin, but the surface was dry and starting to crack, and it was beginning to separate. It tasted overly salty. As it was only $2 I didn't feel totally ripped off. The "house fries" turned out to be thick-cut potato chips that were undercooked and heavily salted. Although the house seasoning blend was very good, it just would have been better if a third as much was used. No one checked on our table after the food arrived. To be fair, the two people who ordered the blackened redfish, two who ordered entrée salads, and one who ordered seafood pasta thought their meals were good to excellent. The remaining three diners had varying degrees of dissatisfaction but eventually gave up trying to get anyone's attention. Later, I interrupted a conversation among four employees at the hostess stand to ask where the restrooms were. One silently motioned for me to follow him, walked me into the next room, stood in the long aisle between tables and motioned down the aisle with two arms, as if directing a plane to the gate. He then pointed dramatically toward a restroom sign in the far corner, silently raised his eyebrows as if to confirm I'd understood, then returned to his conversation without saying a word. Throughout dinner, the table was never pre-bussed. Appetizer plates and empty glasses remained in front of us for the entire meal, and our water was refilled only once after another in our party flagged someone down. Our server suddenly became energetic again when he returned with the dessert menu, and was poised and polished while we sat, surrounded by the dirty dishes from dinner. By then, everyone at the table had lost interest and simply asked for the check. The check was placed in front of the person who happened to be sitting at the head of the table. When we asked if it could be split, we were told that splitting checks was against restaurant policy. When one of the party questioned that he assured us that it was true, He then reminded us that an 18% gratuity was "enforced" for large parties. I've certainly had worse meals, and I've certainly experienced worse service. What made this evening memorable was the disconnect between the experience and the price. At $57 for a ribeye and a side of potato chips, this restaurant is competing with places like Fleming's and The Capital Grille. Based on this visit, it just isn't delivering at that level. I've spent a lot of my career in the restaurant industry, and I would have welcomed the opportunity to discuss our experience with a manager. Unfortunately, I never saw one on the floor. Your mileage may vary, and your experience may be different. Mine left me with the impression that this wasn't a restaurant having an off night, but one where inattentive service and snark had become routine. read more

There were 4 adults and one child. bill with tip was $320. One bar beverage. One. The pasta was bordering on inedible. The artichoke hearts were straight out of the jar. Not fresh. And apparently the cook didn't realize you had to drain those things. Nope. Just plopped one on the plate. With all the vinegar and oil it was packed in. Practically ruined the dish. Add to that probably a tablespoon of capers, also undrained, and kind of off to the side so it wasn't part of the sauce. It was gross. And everything is ala carte. Cheeseburger. No fries. Steaks, no sauce, Anyway. I learned my lesson. read more

I had dinner with a friend here on Friday night and thankfully we made reservations as it was packed around 6:30pm. Since we were going to a movie, we ordered our food immediately. I went with the blackened redfish entree which I've had before. My friend ordered the chicken Marsala. Paired with my glass of Barossa Valley Cabernet, the entree was delicious. It came out with this large scoop of infused butter on top of the fish. The fish was cooked and season perfectly, it's a good portion for one person. The green beans were good and seasoned with that melted butter. My one suggestion is this entree needs another side to accompany it like mashed or roasted potatoes. Especially for the price point at $36 - eating green beans and a piece of fish just feels like something is missing in my opinion. My friend said she liked her chicken marsala and enjoyed the mushroom flavor. It was so late that I actually ended up getting the meal and dessert to go but we did have plenty of appetizers which were delicious. The next day I enjoyed what I ordered which was the filet mignon with mashed potatoes and green beans. I brought home the macadamia encrusted mahi for my bf and I tasted. It wasn't my favorite but not the worst either. For a busy Thursday night, it was definitely crowded and with that being said, we had pretty great service. I want to come back for a regular meal and also for the brunch. So far, I'd recommend but I've heard mixed reviews. As a Gators lover, it's also cool to see the football related decor. read more

Earlier in the evening, we had stopped by the bar for a quick drink--our bartender was friendly, attentive, and set a great tone for the night. My husband and I are both Gators. We'd never been to Spurrier's; so we decided to stop in on our way from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale. It was a Sunday at about 8:15 pm; and we really wanted to watch the Green Bay/Pittsburgh game. We thought it was perfect timing! We weren't even sure the restaurant was open because it looked pretty empty inside. The host asked if we had a reservation, odd because the place was 90% empty. Then he took our name and number and said to wait up front. We asked if we could just sit in the bar area, which was a little fuller, because we wanted to watch the NFL game. He led us to a table next to a large column where really only 1 of 4 seats had a clear view of the game we wanted. I asked if we could have a different table, (there were many empty ones.). He said we could if we waited for them to clear and set one. We said fine, and were just kind of standing back; but he said we'd have to return to the host stand and wait there. Then we waited while he seated another couple that came in and he finally came back for us. He was just very aloof, and not very welcoming or friendly at all! Once seated at our new table, our server Emily came over and promptly took our drink order. She was pleasant. We perused the menu and decided to start with the Buffalo Chicken Dip, $18. I was worried it might be a little spicy because it said it had Louisiana hot sauce, but it had just the right amount of heat and a great texture with lots of cheese and shredded chicken. It also had the black tortilla chips which were delicious! The portion was perfect for sharing. We also shared Spurrier's Cheeseburger, $19. It was cooked to perfection with a tasty bun and a juicy burger. We both loved it and it came with some really yummy fries which were unexpected bonus! We had a reservation and received excellent communications regarding the reservation and were seated immediately upon arrival at the restaurant. We had a great table inside. Tommy was an excellent server. He was attentive but not smothering. We did not feel rushed. We had time to relax and enjoy our pre-dinner drinks as well as all courses. The food was fantastic. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked, and my halibut entree was perfect as always. The only slight issue was my husband's mashed potatoes were cold. Unlike the rest of the meal. I order the 6oz steak it's wasn't juicy but over priced and asparagus was good but the mashed potatoes were dry and cold . Spurrier's is one of those places that checks all the boxes. The ambience is really nice--great lighting, clean, and a solid vibe overall. I haven't experienced the rooftop bar because they are constantly booked with events when I go but they also have outdoor dining. The staff is super attentive and constantly checking in to make sure everything's good, which I really appreciate. It's also the perfect spot to watch sports, with plenty of TVs and an energetic but comfortable environment. Everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious, from drinks to dinner to the buffet. We had appetizers which we forgot to photograph the roasted whole cauliflower and wings being the standout appetizers. For entrees we got the spinach artichoke chicken which had wonderful potatoes, shrimp scampi was okay with the sauce being a little on the thin side but tasty, the bolognese was good, the burger was cooked as requested the fries were well seasoned, the veggie burger was good though a bit soft and the brussel sprouts were a standout. They were beautifully roasted and seasoned. The atmosphere was unique and caters to any Florida fan looking to see memorabilia. Before moving to Ocala, I never heard of Spurrier. I do not know much about football because it was never really an interesting sport to me. I mean I have always watched NFL games when I was back home and would attend NY Giants games but I was never into it that much to know of Spurrier or college football for that matter. Anyway, hubs and I had this place on our list to try and found a perfect opportunity on a Sunday when I picked him up from the airport. We have tried a couple of times to visit previously but either no one paid attention to us or it was insanely busy. When we finally visited, it was so dead at the bar immediately inside the door so we decided to sit there. We didn't realize there was a brunch buffet going on but it was towards the end of brunch hours so we decided not to indulge. We figured we would want to try the items when they were still fresh. The bartenders at first were welcoming and friendly. We were hungry so we ordered some food items. Hubs ordered a burger and I ordered a Caesar salad with a side of mac and cheese. The salad was good but the Mac and cheese was not flavorful. I think I wound up giving the rest to hubs. He enjoyed his burger but definitely had better. The service was not great in regards to speed or paying attention. The first round, hubs had waited a really long time to receive his beer. We were watching and in awe because we could not figure out what was going on. I asked the bartender again, to which she said she was getting it but never came back. Upon ordering our second round, I was waiting forever for someone to come over so I could order another glass of wine, I believe they gave my husband a beer on the house because of the mess up. I came here after a friend recommended the restaurant and it did not disappoint. From the moment you go in, the staff is very nice and helpful. The server provided some suggestions and she did not steer me wrong with them. To drink I tried the Lychee Martini and it was delicious. I was surprised with the boba on the bottom of the glass. As an appetizer, I tried the salt and pepper calamari. The plate was big and the calamari were crispy. As an entree, I had the short rib and wild mushroom risotto and it was so tasty. The short rib meat melts in your mouth. Throughout my time there, the staff was very attentive at picking up the dirty plates and refilling our water cups.
