    Chocolate peanut butter cake slice
    Alyssa M.

I really liked the food here, I got a sandwich with a side salad and both were unique and delicious. The chocolate peanut butter cake was very rich and tasty, though a bit dry. The service here is interesting as you go up to the bar to order and then they serve you at your table, but the servers were still very attentive and helpful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The lighting is very dark inside but it's a cute atmosphere overall with the vibe of a brewery.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I went back in a weekday and I don't know who was back there but my food was made with LOVE. I got the buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and it was too good for words. I absolutely loved it and it's now my favorite thing to eat. Highly recommend their ranch which I believe is homemade . Will definitely come back!

I came here for the live music, Howard Wapner's trio. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I haven't ordered any food or drinks yet, but you can't order from the table, I just learned. I was waiting for the dirty dishes from the previous diners to be cleared away from my table. It was a longish wait, but the restaurant is pretty full. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First time here. It says it's a grocery store but it really just looks like a hipster restaurant where you order at the bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Burger, Caesar salad, fried green tomatoes

It's been a while, but we hit #publicandgeneral. The friend green maters had whipped goat cheese, and was a hit! The Caesar salad (large shown) was good and filling without protein, with a tinge of anchovies and bites of artichoke. It might not be for everyone who isn't expecting the anchovy addition, but that is the classic Caesar. The burger was good, smaller and seemingly in a hand-made bun. Happy hour from 3:00-6:00 was a bonus. Gator game bound!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A nice little stop on our way to the spring, Public & General was an interesting little find with some good specials and wide open seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The dill fries were delicious and the kids enjoyed the chicken and burger. My BLT was rather greasy which was unexpected since it was on "local sourdough", but I still managed to enjoy half of it. The craft beer selection had a little for everyone also, which is always a good touch. Overall, I'd love to return and try their dinner menu, and in the meantime might enjoy lunch with a different pick.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A hole in the wall joint that pleasantly surprised.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Looking for a dinner close to the airport and decided on Public. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Warning there is no visible signage at night, so good luck finding it without GPS.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Once inside, you go to the bar for menus and ordering. You find a table and the food is brought out to you. The menu is small but perfect if you are hungry for a good meal. They have many hard to find beers and solid taps. They also have a separate wine bar with someone to assist. We opted for dry rub wings, a Buffalo Chicken sandwich, and the Brisket sandwich. I highly recommend the Buffalo Chicken. Service and staff are excellent. We will return.

Went here for a relaxing lunch after a long few days with two of my sisters. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We love this spot, especially the outside seating in the back patio.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Cole is awesome and made me miss being back in my hometown. Good service for how busy the place was. Very popular spot with great beer on draft and reasonably priced wine. 10/10 would recommend this spot. I love the food and always an easy going vibe.

Cocktails are always a 5 out of 5!! We got the Gin Basil and Aviation cocktails. Always tastes fresh and consistent. Food's a solid 3.5 stars, but it's a fair trade off for how good the cocktails are. We've gotten the brisket hoagie, burger, and wings. They're good for bar food, but usually on the dry side and light on flavor. Well worth the visit for the cocktails!!

Pan seared snapper with a Fuji apple and roasted fennel vinaigrette over ginger infused rice with broccolini and carrots

Went for dinner with friends and had one of their dinner specials and am so glad I did. I ordered the pan seared snapper and it was prepared perfectly and the portion size was great. Even though it was a Friday and they weee busy the service was still great and they were so friendly. Definitely recommend for a chill night out with great food.

    Pork taco lunch special

We were a bit skeptical when we drove up but were pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. Moving from a big foodie city we have had trouble finding decent food options but Public & General did not disappoint. The cocktails were great as well as the food and service. We had Gin Basil Smash and a Cuke Ellington for cocktails, both refreshing and delicious. We had the burger and pork taco lunch specials. Both great. Glad we didn't drive on by to look for something else. We will be back.

The casual, relaxing atmosphere of Public and General is a welcome change from the busy scenes on Main Street. Many locals bike here to enjoy the local brews on tap, inspired healthy eats, and dog-friendly patio area. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Dill Fries are my favorite menu item. I envision a happy future meeting friends here and ordering just those with a couple tap beers. The cheeseburgers are also excellent, with a perfectly charred exterior and soft interior complemented with fresh cucumber slices, onions, lettuce and your cheese of choice on a sesame seed bun. One of the best Bleu Cheeseburgers ever!

Public & General, the "P&G", a Gastropub in Gainesville. Any beer enthusiast and foodie would dig this place. Amazing burger cooked perfectly medium rare, fried green tomatoes, Florida beers. Take a look at those great menu prices!

This is the second time in three days we have found ourselves at this local eatery. The staff is incredible, hip and very attentive. Service is fantastic. The menu is limited and I appreciate this because the quality is above board. They are focused on doing what they do well. Cocktails are on point. I HIGHLY recommend the Shrimp and Pesto Gnocchi. I had them add pesto to a grilled cheddar cheese sammich and accompanied it with the tomato basil soup! Enjoy other options. First time we went in the evening and it was such a vibe. The second time we went after the "school" let out and we sat outside. Do not recommend doing this. Overall it was 10/10 highly recommend!!

Replaying last night's dinner in my head has me planning my next visit to Superette. Sunday brunch this weekend is calling my name. The sweet potato soup had a puréed, baby‑food texture, but the flavor itself was surprisingly rich and comforting. The star for me was the Tunisian casse‑croûte. The flavors were incredible; the albacore was tender and seasoned just right, the salata mechouia added this smoky, roasted pepper depth, and the pickled egg brought the perfect tangy brightness. The arugula gave it a fresh, peppery lift, and the harissa aioli tied everything together with a warm, subtle heat. The fries on top added the best crunchy contrast. Every bite was layered, bold, and so satisfying.

My boyfriend got a cappuccino with strawberry syrup but we didn't really taste the strawberry in his. Regardless, it was delicious. We also got one of their biscotti which seemed like they made in house but I'm not sure. It was yummy, but definitely was not a very traditional recipe. It tasted more like a short bread than a biscotti but still very yummy. We walked out to the food truck to get some vegan bites and they definitely met expectations. The crabby patty was delicious with a great texture, and my boyfriends patty melt was also super good. We shared a mac and cheese and honestly I was full before we even got to that. The Mac and cheese was great but did taste a lot like coconut so if you're not into that then maybe veer away. The ambience was a mixed bag. The initial shop that you order the coffee in had a very cozy vibe with great decor. If you walk past the patio into the overflow seating the vibe changes a ton. The decor felt very uncanny valley, back rooms, like very odd. I think they need to work on that side of the property a little bit and make it more cozy. Maybe it's a work in progress or maybe they like it that way, I'm not sure, but it wasn't the sort of vibe that made me want to stick around. Overall great experience though! Will be coming back & hopefully I can get seating in the main shop ;)

I got the mojo tacos and for my chosen protein I went with the fried fishless filet. The two tacos came on corn tortillas with pico de gallo, queso fresco, pickled red onion, mojo sauce, and lime. Each bite was so refreshing! The lime gave a citrus kick to the sweet pickled red onions. The fried fishless fish was tender and flaky like real white fish. I was thoroughly impressed with Curia and think it's one of the most unique places in Gainesville. Check it out!

We went during THE busiest time so we were lucky to find parking in the cramped but free parking lot. The hostess let us know there was a 35 min wait for indoor seating for 2. Outdoor seating was available, but we decided against it since it was a hot n sunny day in the 90s. We were ok with the wait and gave the hostess my name and phone number to get a text when the table was ready. While we waited, we walked to Serpentine plant shop across the parking lot and shopped a little. The text that our table was ready arrived 34 minutes so it was timed perfectly with the end of my shopping... we were seated soon after walking back into the restaurant. We had a corner table near the drink prep/coffee station so we had a front row seat to the preparing of many different teas and coffees while we decided what to order. A note about the table / seat size, we are skinny people and the seating fit us well but anyone somewhat wider would have trouble being comfortable. The high top tables might be a better option for those guests. The entire restaurant was packed when we came in and remained pretty full for our visit. There are 2 single-occupancy restrooms to the far left of the main entrance. They were clean enough and stocked appropriately. We were served by Jane and she answered all our menu questions. We ordered a cold matcha latte, chai latte, Mexican Coke, crispy potatoes, afternoon hash extra egg, 1/2 mushroom toast, and a turkey club no lettuce no bacon plus desserts (to go) chocolate chip cookie, puff pastry, and cinnamon roll. Jane brought out our to go desserts soon after the order. Our drinks arrived minutes after. However, our food took a bit longer (which we expected with a 100% full restaurant and Jane apologized for the wait, letting us know our food was on it's way about 20 minutes in) around 30 minutes. While we were waiting, there was punk rock / alt music in the background and a bunch of people's conversations going on so don't expect to have quiet dining if you go during a Saturday busy brunch. The Turkey Club was on thick Texas toast with dill in the mayo and tasted clean, fresh, like a delightful treat that grandma would make on a hot summer day. My husband's hash and crispy potatoes were the right amount of crunch and spice. The crispy potatoes had chunks of lime in it that were alarmingly sour but somehow complimented the dish. My mushroom toast had a delectable sauce topping with fresh scallions on french bread. We were very satisfied with our choices and had 1/2 my sandwich leftover plus our desserts to bring home. Many of the guests left empty plates when leaving so it seems their food is a hit! The only reason my "atmosphere" rating is missing a star is that our table was unfortunately near one of the restrooms so we would occasionally smell the disinfectant odor when someone opened the door. This was just a seating "feature" so of course it could not be helped. As far as other smells, we did notice that the kitchen, even if it was nearby, did not waft any fried food odors or smoke so their cooking area ventilation must be top-notch. All in all, a great foodie experience, cost about $100 with generous tip. Jane provided super customer service. We would come back for brunch or lunch here again, just not at the same table area

I entered the restaurant at 9:15 am with my guest and were seated promptly. Our server proceeded with our drink order in which we requested a vanilla and brown sugar iced latte and lemonade. My vanilla and brown sugar latte was made well and was quite refreshing. The lemonade was a bit sweet but overall a good beverage. However, as our experience continued it became a bit of a let down. We ordered the Dutch baby with seasonal fruit, the big break, a cinnamon roll, and the afternoon hash. From time of placing the order to receiving our food was an overall total of 45 minutes. A bit of a long wait for breakfast/brunch style items. The cinnamon roll was not done well whatsoever, the roll itself was over kneaded which created a thick and heavy dough. Not the fluffy type of cinnamon roll you would expect. When our food did come out the Dutch baby was partly burnt, it did not taste as such but it was a bit flat in regard to taste. The potatoes in the hash and the big break were burnt. I wouldn't consider it crispy because they were so overcooked I could barely get my fork to go through. The taste of the hollandaise did redeem the dish a tad, however for $90 including tip it was not the dining experience I would come back to.
