Well we were in town for a football game. Looking for some good brunch options before the game and we found OAK. The menu looked great, reviews were good, so I made a reservation for 1:45. We got lucky and found a good parking spot next door. We got to the host stand, two young ladies were there taking care of business. They were talking to a couple, I figured they were looking for a table.. after standing there and waiting for a few minutes, we realized they were just talking about their plans for the weekend. Finally after a few minutes of standing there, one of the two hostess realized that we were there to get food and she apologized and asked for our reservation info. Meanwhile, the other person just stood there. There was a bit of attitude happening, I won't type it all now, but after about 14 minutes after our reservation the helpful lady took us to our booth. On our way to our booth, we noticed there was water everywhere. I'm surprised nobody had slipped, the condensation from the A/C was pouring over everything.the tables were wet, the floors were dangerously wet. There were no fans, for being in Gainesville in August it was more humid than outside. After we got our table dried off, and didn't slip on our way to the booth, we were greeted. I'm sorry,I didn't catch her name,but our server was very fri, she was new b/c she had a trainer with her. They were both great. We started with the pancake sliders, meh, they really tasted like they were frozen and just microwaved, the 4 sauces with it, weren't amazing and they were all old,as were the pancakes. Anyway, we ordered our lunch. The pear Gorgonzola salad was really good.i had the brunch tacos. It was a little spicier than I expected. We were in Gainesville decided to have a couple apps and a drink, there are a lot of options. We went to this place because they had people already seated. We were greeted and seated quickly outside. The waitress was very sweet. The menu has good options, we got a few apps, and one drink. The drinks were $15 each and small. It ended up being super busy as the night went on because of trivia. Came for a group dinner on a Tuesday evening around 7pm, the service was nice but slow, and it took an extremely long time to receive our food. My food was pretty room temp already by the time I got it, and the fries were cold unfortunately. Sucks because they were seasoned great, but I hate cold fries... I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich for dinner, and it was ok. I liked the pesto aioli sauce on it, but the actual chicken was pretty overcooked and dry. Probably from sitting on the warmer for so long since it wasn't hot either. OAK was outstanding. We had reservations for brunch on a Saturday after a UF convocation. Our party of 12 was seated immediately (even with 3 people still to come). Christian was our server and handled the assignment impeccably. Only one minor error from the kitchen which was corrected within 2 minutes. And the food...oh, wow! Not a single person had a bad meal. I came to OAK for brunch and thought it was amazing. Everything from the food to the service was top notch. I came in on a Friday afternoon and was one of the only people there. All of the dishes we ordered were very tasty. The eggs Benedict had a ton of flavorful and the hot honey which came with the vegetarian bowl was awesome. Moreover, I thought the biscuits and breakfast potatoes were great additions to the dishes. The brunch menu is fairly expansive and has a good selection of different types of dishes. The biscuits were a little too soft to eat as a handheld, so I would recommend using utensils. The staff was very cheerful and friendly from every person I interacted with. I thought the price was def fair, but honestly wish the meal was for one chicken biscuit and had a side to replace the second one. My friends tried to get brunch here last year during Fest and were practically laughed at for not having a reservation. This year someone marked it on their calendar and booked a table for our group months in advance so we had no issue getting in quick. Food was all good, service was fine. Had my daughter's birthday brunch here. Party of 9! Seated immediately (we had a res) and the place was very nice and open inside. A bit warm but not bad. Started with 2 biscuit apps and those biscuits were awesome! Perfectly done in the gravy. Lunches were mostly smash burgers which were good but pretty standard. Lots of fries which was nice. country fried steak and breakfast tacos were also good. We ended with peach crumble and that was not. This isn't my first time at OAK, I've been many times over the years. Usually, I'll go to enjoy their brunch like I did on this visit. One thing I will say is that the food is good and enjoyable, and the bottomless mimosas are a hit. I like the ambiance of the place as well, very cute design and decor feels modern and fun. On the other side of things, the service could definitely use some help. We had a reservation for the weekend brunch, of course that is known that you need one to get served since they are usually pretty busy but honestly I don't even see why they take reservations because it doesn't mean they will be prepared for your party. We waited at our table for 20 minutes after the host sat us with no server having even come up to us to ask us our drink orders. It was not until we flagged someone down and asked for our server to come over that then the server who we flagged down decided to take our table. I'm not necessarily placing blame on the servers, they're nice but it's evident they don't have enough on at one time each of them had like 10 tables and couldn't really keep up. They are good with keeping the mimosas filled up since they have pre filled batches so I think that is nice. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience since the food and drinks were good and after we got someone, the service was nice. They could do better with managing the crowd that they book up in advance. read more

I don't like to write bad reviews, but I've tried this place three times and every time they are extremely slow and the staff are rude. I'm writing this review at 2:45pm after arriving at 11:45 for a 12pm reservation. We still haven't gotten our bill. The wait staff hides in the kitchen and is nowhere to be found, then when they do serve you, they aren't particularly nice. If you are not a student, I don't recommend OAK. read more

I stopped in OAK for a pre-dinner cocktail and was honestly really happy that I did! The vibe was super chill and everyone inside seemed to be enjoying themselves. Happy hour was so cheap!! What a great Friday night dinner! Our son and his fiancé' were in town from across the state and we met them in Gainesville for dinner. It was also our son's birthday. They chose the location. Normally I enjoy when a restaurant changes its menu so that there is always something new and exciting to try. Unfortunately some of the options this go around is not anywhere close to the last time. They were out of tomato soup, it happens, but that probably would have helped make the meal better as their tomato soup is beyond amazing. The pasta was overcooked and the flavor was beyond lack luster. I do not recommend it. Also the side of asparagus, although cooked well, did not feel worth the $6 price tag, at that price I feel that jumbo asparagus would be a better fit. They still make a fantastic steak though. Menu has something for everyone; Teens enjoyed their burgers and steak tacos ( and stand out fried Oreo dessert a la mode ) and adults were satisfied with their short rib and lamb chop pops. The whole meal was a tiny bit oily/ buttery for my liking ( especially my side of veggies ) but still solidly good. Upscale bar/ pub like atmosphere. Mikayla is an awesome bar sever, big smile, attentive and prompt. Ordered their house wings naked, as a happy hour app--some of the best I've had! Absolutely delicious food. I'm not normally the biggest fan of American food but the food here was great. It's in a super cute place downtown and is always bustling with students. The food is a little more expensive than i'd like but it's still great. I got to try the pretzel and artichoke dip which was super delicious. I came for dinner. The restaurant itself looks very nice, but I was not impressed with the service or food. I sat at the bar, where there were two bartenders. One of which was trying to take care of everyone and the other seemed to never be at the bar. I ordered the oak smash burger, and it just left a lot to be desired. It wasn't horrible by any means, and I left full. The patty was cooked well, but I was just left feeling like I wanted a more classic cheeseburger option. The fries were not well seasoned, overly salty, and not fried well. I've been in Gainesville for about 7 years now, and never had an issue eating here. Their drink service and selection is usually good, so that's why I'll leave it a 3-star rating. read more
