Our bartenders were very friendly, polite and did the best they could do, but were completely overwhelmed on this Graduation Friday. Place was clean, food was OK, yes just OK and wasn't even close to being served all together. The third plate was served after we finished all the other dishes. As I said, the bartenders were working hard but the overall service was terrible. No silverware was given, no drink refills were offered, no follow up on the missing food. Service just sucked! Especially for the prices ! Too many options to go back and have another bad experience. We came to Cantina Añejo for a sorority moms & daughters event, and the vibe was definitely fun and lively--it's right across the street from UF, so it's clearly a popular scene! Drinks were included with the event, and I ordered a Tito's with club soda and lime, but something was off. Not sure what they mixed in, but it tasted unusually sweet, almost like it had added sugar or syrup--which was unexpected for such a simple cocktail. On the plus side, we tried the chips and guacamole, and they were really good--fresh, flavorful, and a great snack to share. Overall, it's a good spot if you're looking for a social, energetic atmosphere, but the drinks didn't quite hit the mark for me. Oh man, that was the best queso blanco I have had in a long time! Perfect consistency and creaminess. Flavor beyond that of just melted cheese and a jalapeño. Chips were nice and salty, not too thick, just thin enough. The shrimp Street Tacos and Tijuana Cesar were both very good. The food really was the best part of our dining experience. Service was just okay, but I believe that was due to a poor management decision and not for his lack of trying. Our server had tables in every corner of the restaurant and was on the move constantly. Usually I don't give a second thought at a restaurant to (non-alcoholic) drinks because it is so mundane, everyone usually carries the basics. But they only carry unsweetened tea (this is the south right?) and had no other options that were non-alcoholic and not soda, not even lemonade? Okay, water it is I guess. But then the water was just awful, it tasted mildewy. Overall, the food was so good we will be back but for takeout, so we can enjoy filtered water at home lol. Food wasn't great. Ordered queso and received a bowl of slightly cheesy cream. Asked them to redo it and the cook (definitely not a chef) sent it back to our table. The drinks tasted watered down, the guac was tasteless. The bartender was kind and attentive at least. Bathrooms were simply nasty, grosser than a roadside gas station. Finally, asked the manager to put the Texas vs Texas A&M game on one TV and they wouldn't. They had Texas Tech vs Iowa State on 8 different screens.... Right across the street from the UF campus and a short walk to Florida Field for game day! Great place to park yourself at the outdoor bar or even the inside restaurant & have some handhelds and adult beverages before the game. My past experiences here have always been good and the servers are attentive and willing to make your time there a fun time. On game days the menu is downsized to make it easier on the kitchen but what is offered is flavorful and presented in a nice fashion. So, for myself this is a spot I go to before many of the home games as it is easier than setting up a tailgate and then tearing it down. Stopped into the bar at Cantina Anejo before a game at the U of Florida campus. I was looking for a simple Ranch Water and spotted one of the signature drinks named "Cantina Ranch Water". Usually signature drinks are pretty good, I thought. What I was served was a surprise. An unpleasant surprise. It was a bottle of Topo Chico with a paste of spices smeared around the top of the bottle. How the heck does a person drink that or pay $10 for that?!? Also, a friend ordered a shot of Bourbon and it was served it what appeared to be a glass thimble instead of the normal shot glass with a nice cube of ice. OK we were about to go to Canes when the line was out the door. So we decided to try the Cantina for lunch today. What a happy accident. We weren't even planning to eat lunch, so we got a set of three chicken street tacos and the Mexican trifecta, which is basically guacamole, queso, salsa, and chips. We just wanted to get this place a try. Some of my favorite Taquerias in town are Sublime and 365. I have to say though this place gives them a run for their money. Definitely more upscale with a really huge bar and ample outside seating. The music is on the loud side so if you wanted a quiet, romantic getaway, this is not it. If you wanted a happening bar to watch some sports on no less than eight TV sets, than this is your place. Super fun. One downside would be parking. As it's the right across from campus obviously parking isn't the greatest. But a great place to walk to for a really delicious lunch. Well what we got would probably be considered an appetizer and tacos for one, there's more than enough food for two people. While in town for homecoming weekend, we stopped by for lunch. We arrived at 12:45 after the parade with a reservation and were seated right away. To my surprise, the menu was extremely shortened and only offered 4-5 options for game day weekend. This was a disappointment but understandable. We always stop in Gainesville on our way back home from a family vacation each summer. This place is one of the best experiences we have had at a restaurant here. I love the open concept and layout of the restaurant. It's not cramped and claustrophobic like alot of other options in the area. They had a great food and beverage selection. The music and vibes made it an even better dinner experience. Our waitress was so nice! She accommodated our three year old's needs and preferences even though they didn't have a kids menu. I forget her name, I think it started with an "M" , like "Mika, or Mila." We had the Mexican trio as an app. The queso and salsa were so delicious! Then for our entree we split the steak fajitas and my daughter was able to get a "taco bowl" with rice beans and chicken. We will definitely stop here again next year! read more

Carina is a NEW great place for those to hang out. It is open, TVs on and functional, and booths available. As Social was flushed with people, Cantina was open and generous allowing people to come in and experience the game. It is brand new, and service is good for being so new and I was told food is a 4/5. It is CROWDED, however I think it will be a great new spot in town. The first time I visited this establishment I was served elote that had so much spice on it you could almost choke. They took it back and I ordered the trio chips and dips. The guac had the pit in it and actually cracked my tooth because I didn't realize it was in my bite. The manager was very responsive, which is why there are two stars.
