Stopped in on a Thursday morning around 10-11am with my mom, and honestly... what a gem. It wasn't too busy, which made the whole vibe even better .. it was calm, cozy, and a little artsy inside with such a unique charm that makes you want to linger. We both ordered waffles for breakfast, and I went for the blueberry ones with eggs and potatoes on the side. Everything was spot on. The potatoes were perfect, soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, seasoned so well they were borderline addictive. And the eggs? Fluffy, light, and cooked the way eggs should be. I'm so used to getting overcooked eggs at other places, so having them done right felt like a treat. The waffles were the star though. Crunchy exterior, soft warm center, and real blueberries in every bite. Absolutely delicious. Service was just as impressive. Updated: Better food especially for the price, but the service is not that great. I've come a few times in the last year during the week days bc I was hoping to get quicker and better service, especially for lunch/brunch during my lunch break at work. It isn't as busy but the service is still not great. One time I came with a bunch of friends. We were a large group (6). It took a while to get seated. We had other parties seated before us 2-4 ppl per group that came after us. That was disheartening because they could've pushed some tables that we noticed together. However, we got our food and it was delicious. One of my friends had this pasta with clams or mussels. They gave so many! And it wasn't too salty. They also cleaned them well. Another time I came during the week day with a friend and her two kids. It was nice to be seated in the area where the kids could play. However, it took sooo long to get our orders in and our food. The server barely checked on us. She said they are short staffed but I feel like they usually are. The food was great! Came here with some friends, as they said it was great. Ended up pretty disappointed. The food isn't bad, it just isn't worth the price you pay. I ordered the meatloaf special which people said was good. About halfway through, I noticed plastic wrapped on part of the crust, which tells me the meatloaf is likely frozen. Definitely wasn't kitchen plastic wrap so I doubt it's made prior and reheated. The texture also felt very frozen/thawed. The mashed potatoes and collard greens were just okay. My wife's tomato soup was basically water with light tomato flavor. Cash only with the option to use Venmo. I guess I understand not wanting to pay credit card fees but seems a little ridiculous to me. Location is also very far from most things, unless you live on the east side. We stopped by for brunch and was greeted by the hostess/waitress, Diana. We took a look at the daily specials on the board and was seated immediately. We ordered sweet tea and coffee as we looked over the menu. She returned with our drinks and cups of water. We ordered french toast with two eggs scrambled and fresh fruit as well as (The Blue Plate) 2 eggs scrambled with smoked Gouda grits, thick bacon extra crispy, and a biscuit. The grits needed butter and salt in our opinion and thankfully they were available. The meal was great. We wanted grape jelly to go on the biscuit but they only offer strawberry jam so that was disappointing. The biscuit though was fluffy and incredibly good. We left those plates clean. The service was terrific. Diana was the only person we saw serving guests and there was about 5-7 occupied tables. Diana zipped back and forth all over that restaurant and didn't miss a beat. She was kind and always smiling. Just watching her work was incredible. We tipped her 51 percent for that effort. The place itself is nice. Big glass windows for natural light. Plenty of ceilings fans that kept it nice and cool. Lot of different things hanging from the ceiling and on the walls to look at. There was also a big bucket of peppermints at the door too, the good kind. Also liked that there was a bottle of hand sanitizer at the table. Will definitely be back often. And there's also art pieces done by what seems to be children towards the back of the restaurant. The decor is very homey and reminds me of visiting my beloved grandma's house. I wish there were more places like this where I live! We were visiting Gainesville and wanted to find a kid friendly, non-chain breakfast spot and ended up here. It was perfect. They have a a little play area for kids, board games, all kinds of reading materials and a beautiful patio to enjoy/eat. I had the lluevos rancheros and kids had blueberry waffles with scrambled eggs. It was all tasty- my kids rarely finish their eggs, but they even ordered more here. Another thing we loved was that they have art for sale on the walls and we bought a piece for our daughters room. The kids loved playing battle ship while we are. Lovely place! I stopped in to see what was happening at the old restaurant at the corner of Territorial and Woodward and discovered Suipi and her amazing food. Later that afternoon I brought my 84 year old sister in for lunch. My sister had never eaten Burmese food. Suipi welcomed us and sat with us explaining how her food was made and cooked. My sister told her she liked vegetables and chicken but no hot peppers or spice. Suipi brought her a wonderful dish of fresh spinach and cucumbers, a dish of finely chopped cabbage and carrots, and a chicken dish that was so tender it melted in your mouth. I have never seen my sister eat so much in my life. I had goat curry, my all time favorite curry dish that was the best I have ever enjoyed. The jasmine rice was cooked to perfection. This is a really cute restaurant. It's full of adorable antique glassware. They have the cutest children's play area ever. I wish we had been seated on that side of the restaurant but I think our group was too large. We went for brunch to meet some old friends. We were not ever rushed and the service was really good. This was the perfect place for breakfast on a Monday! It was my first visit, but I'll definitely be back. I had one of the day's specials, banana bread French toast. It was so good! Just sweet enough without being too much. The portion was good for the price, too. Staff was super helpful as the morning crowd was picking up, and they stopped by a few times for refills and such. The restaurant itself was cozy, and I loved all of the natural light. Seating seemed to best fit smaller groups, so something to keep in mind (although they may be able to move tables). The place is cash only, and they do have signs that say this but I thought it'd be good to share here. Also, if you can carpool here, that may be helpful since parking is somewhat limited. How have I lived here all this time and not known about this place? Located in East GAINESVILLE in the site of the old Rex's Bakery, East End Eatery is owned by the folks that have Elegant Events Catering. It opened 10 years ago and appears to be one of Gainesville's best kept secrets. The first thing I noticed when entering was the charming decor and the great atmosphere with sunlight coming in the large front windows. The space is divided into multiple smaller rooms so you have a lot of privacy while dining. My partner and I arrived about 10:00 and I became giddy with excitement when I saw smoked Gouda grits on the menu. I ordered the TBM omelette (three eggs, tomato, basil pesto, and mozzarella) with the smoked Gouda grits and I added a biscuit for a small upcharge. Cassandra was our server and she was super friendly, knowledgeable, and our food came out quickly and super hot. WOW! From the first bite I was hypnotized by the amazing flavor of the omelette and the grits. I cleaned my plate and was tempted to lick the plate too but I am an adult and so I decided to just write about how amazing it was instead. Lol! All I can say is you need to try this place. They were way overcooked and lacked seasoning. The potatoes were so greasy that I couldn't eat them. The portobello sandwich was decent, but the standout was surprisingly the potato salad.
