Not a bad place. Menu was short but lots of options. Service was excellent and the place was clean and quiet.

Came here after work with a friend. It's a diner and I feel like it was a true diner experience. The waitress was sweet and attentive. There is also plenty of seating and it could definitely accommodate a large party. This is a typical breakfast for me, and they executed it well. Loved that you could swap your toast out for a pancake! Heard the bacon is good, so I'll definitely be back.

This is definitely a 5 Star place taking consideration that this is a greasy spoon diner. Surprisingly there's not many of these kinds of places in Gainesville especially within the center of Gainesville. Just a very solid breakfast place and I look forward to coming here for lunch.

Walked in and everyone was very welcoming. Facility is clean and food was GREAT! Portions were good and not overwhelming. True diner tasting food with outstanding service.

The service here was great and the wait staff very friendly. I ordered the country fried steak breakfast with a side of potatoes. I found everything was Cooked well, but under seasoned. My daughter ordered the western omelette and thought it was a bit greasy.

Darrell's deserves five stars because of a combination of elements. First, the staff is extremely welcoming! I went for breakfast and thankfully it wasn't that crowded so we we had a very personalized experience. It's an open-faced kitchen and even the cook was personable. I even saw one guy who's a regular stand at the counter and have a nice chat with them. I love that down home feel! Secondly, as I mentioned, it's an open-faced kitchen and sometimes that type of transparency can make or break a restaurant. I'm glad to say that proper sanitation is being used, the kitchen was clean, and so was the dining room. During my visit I even witnessed the cook wash his hands several times and changes his gloves to avoid contamination. A+ in my world, because cleanliness is always an important factor for me. Now, the food. In wonderful diner fashion, it has all the normal choices--from breakfast to lunch and dinner. Prices are definitely fair and reasonable. I opted for eggs, grits, sausage, and a cinnamon swirl pancake (only 1.25 upcharge). While the former three aren't anything to write home about (although it was definitely tasty) it's that pancake that's gonna have me driving across town to get. It's huge, fluffy, and actually not too sweet. They must use cinnamon sugar because some parts were definitely crystallized. I Loved that! Gave it a nice crispness on the outside. Yum!!!

Definitely the best breakfast you can find in Gainesville. A hidden gem. The food is outstanding and the service is even better. 5 stars.

My husband has raved about Darrell's for a while, and we finally ate there together yesterday. He had only ever had breakfast there, and lunch was decent, but nothing outstanding. My husband did order a side of sausage, and WOW, YUMMY! The service was quick, orders were correct, and everything was a good temperature. My husband got the combo with chili and a half tuna sandwich. The sandwich was fresh and delicious while the chili was meh. I got a Buffalo chicken wrap with potato salad. The Buffalo chicken wrap was decent, but the potato salad was really disappointing. The potato salad was bland, some of the potato was undercooked, and the chunks of potato were really big. We both ordered sweet tea and it was good. I wish I would have just ordered breakfast because that might have been a better experience. I would definitely return to try breakfast. Rating from F to A +++, I give it a B-.

I was very excited to try this restaurant out after seeing so many positive reviews. I came here around the time they opened on a weekend and was maybe the fifth person there. Service was efficient but not stellar. I ordered the breakfast burrito and asked for extra crispy hash browns. The burrito was good but a bit too wet and the hash browns were not crispy at all. Ambiance is like a deli. Prices were a bit more than I expected. I would not come back.

Discovered this place by accident while trying to find somewhere that was not only minority owned but served pancakes. This place doesn't have a lot of reviews, and they haven't been open very long, but they're in a popular shopping plaza located directly behind my friends house and we decided to try them one morning. First, when you pull up from the outside it does not look as spacious as it is on the inside. There are probably 20 to 30 tables, which can seat anywhere from parties of 2 to 6. There is a bar traversing the length of the kitchen, and currently that was covered in menus and all sorts of desserts (more on the latter in a sec). We were served by a wonderful waiter named Chris. He was able to discuss some of the things on the menu with us and when my friend pointed out that he thought there was red velvet cake on the counter, he said "it definitely is and if you want I'll bring you over a slice at the end". We were sold! Our food came out very quickly was piping hot. The pancakes are like the ones you would make at home: the right amount of brown on both sides, kind of crispy on the edges. They came with a heaping container full of warm butter (which I love because it makes it more spreadable). I do feel like they should give you more than one container for the syrup because their pancakes, while they're not huge, they are very absorbent. The eggs were to die for! Think of waffle house eggs but not as wet. And I know for a lot of people that sort of wet egg is really, really desirable (and I am one of those people), but there was something about the way these eggs were made. The amount of American cheese they used in them and the fact that they required absolutely zero seasoning. We got what referred to as a 2-2-2. It's two hotcakes, two choices of meat (we chose bacon) and two eggs. The bacon was not very crispy, but definitely cooked to perfection. They also do not charge for coffee with breakfast, which was a pleasant surprise! We opted for the red velvet cake, and the slice was HUGE, so we decided to get it to go lol. Total was about $24 for two. Will be returning!

Needless to say this the Metro diner truly surpassed my expectations. We walked in and were greeted immediately and asked if we would like to sit outside which is a covered area or indoors. We chose inside given it being a hot humid day and wanting that extra comfort. The vibe felt amazing with all the smiles and yes even though busy all the wait staff was hopping doing their business! We were seated and told about the specials and given the menu. I was unsure what I wanted because I think I could have eaten a little bit of everything! I did ask the waitress a couple of suggestions and one of them was the pancakes I had chosen. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day! How cool is that and rare. They had a chicken and waffle special that was actually half a chicken ( pieces ) fried with Belgium waffles, powdered sugar and sweet strawberry butter served with their signature sweet and spicy sauce. I'll be honest when I had seen someone else get their plate I was surprised. It looked absolutely incredible and well tremendous. On their specials they had banana pudding pancakes or waffles, this also sounded amazing. It had walnuts, butter and powdered sugar and definitely banana. I am most certainly glad that I chose this as it was incredibly. Super fluffy, flavorful and the banana was not overwhelming there was a perfect balance of flavors. There was a sauce on them that I assume was the banana pudding. It was light and just enough to not overpower the pancake itself. We had also ordered croissant French toast and my son absolutely loved them. They were crispy on the outside yet fluffy and flavorful with a fantastic texture topped with some powdered sugar. Some ordered hash browns, these were also delicious and homemade with a great texture and the portion like all the other dishes pretty large. We had all tried the biscuits and gravy. These too were delicious with such a nice balance of flavors. The biscuits indeed homemade. We were all very pleased with everything. Some eggs over easy and bacon cooked perfectly. The coffee honestly the best I've had in years. I'm a coffee drinker and I cannot figure this coffee was outstanding! I had four cups and wish for more ha ha. Best of all I must compliment the service. I have not been to a restaurant of any sort with such attentive service, quality service as we received here in years. The waitress kept refilling my coffee and water, brought my son more soda ( even a container to take his home ) asked everyone if they needed anything at appropriate times and was extremely kind and considerate. I will be back and I highly recommend the Metro Diner for a great meal, quality service and relaxed environment that you will enjoy. It actually IS crazy, but that's a review for another app entirely. Have you ever been to a place where you can just tell the people there all care about their jobs? A place that operates smoothly without a bunch of flash? That's how I felt about 43rd Street. Very clean and uncluttered, with a definite retro feel. Kinda like stepping back in time a decade or three, but in a nostalgic way. The place was fairly busy but quiet, which I appreciated after 30+ hours of road noise and loud music. We were greeted as soon as we entered and shown to a table with no wait. The hostess (I didn't catch her name) took our drink orders as we were seated--OJ for her and coffee for me--and promptly bustled away to take care of us. Our server, Crystal, was a delight. Efficient, friendly, attentive, all the things one needs to be an all-star server. Our drinks came out quickly, freshly squeezed OJ and fresh coffee, both lovely. I ordered the Firecracker omelette and my partner got French toast with strawberries. We shared a large side of cheesy grits, which I was super excited for. Love me some grits! Comforting, plentiful, and well prepared. Also delicious! I enjoyed every part of my visit to 43rd Street and will definitely return next time I'm in the neighborhood. We did wait a little while to be seated, but once we sat down, Judy, our waitress, was very upfront and let us know the food would likely take about 30 minutes. Honestly, we didn't mind at all because she immediately got us drinks and caffeine, which was much needed while battling a couple-day migraine. I ordered The Clock Two-Egg Breakfast, and wow, it was absolutely delicious. This was honestly some of the best breakfast food I've had since living in the state of Florida. The chunky hash browns were cooked perfectly. Bacon, perfectly cooked, a well balance of soft and crunchy. Judy was also one of the nicest waitresses we've met during all of our travels. She constantly checked on us and made sure we never went without anything during our visit. We were chatting with her about feeding pets, and she even drew a little dog on our doggy box, which was such a sweet personal touch. This place truly screams family atmosphere, and I love supporting places like this because the little family-owned spots deserve support too. Nothing wrong with it exactly, but for what they're charging, I didn't feel like I was getting good value. Located in midtown, this appears to a fast casual place that caters towards college students. They serve "Greek" street food, salads, quesadillas, burgers, and more. The food is relatively inexpensive. Service is fine, actually the people working there are friendly. Food is made to order and comes out quickly. There is some seating available inside (it's limited) but there are plenty of tables in the hall. I ordered the Street Chicken Souvlaki which included grilled chicken with tomato, onion, fries inside a pita, topped with ketchup and mustard. This was a very large portion. The pita was good, but pretty much fell apart the second I picked it up. While I liked the chicken, it was over seasoned and I didn't care for the "sauced" quality of it. I'm not sure if they marinated it or tossed it in some sauce, but it was too much. The fries were decent, but not super crispy. I felt that they were not necessarily and a little over-the-top. The tomato was fresh and but the red onion slices were very thick. The mustard and ketchup didn't work with the seasonings on the chicken. The dish was just all over the place and I couldn't even finish half of it before I started feeling sick. I ordered a side of onion rings as well. This was a large order and the size was great. But these onion rings were over-battered and were fresh, but not crispy at all. I bit into one and ended up pulling out the whole onion rings. Not good. Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience. The food was so heavy and overly salted I couldn't even eat half of it. I ended up giving it to a homeless person on the way out. The food left my stomach in shambles the rest of the day. Service is fine. But the food is not desirable. It is safe to say I will not be returning, which is unfortunate.

It's worth noting that they don't appear to have a deep fryer, which explains the skillet-made home fries instead of traditional fries. The home fries were decent, and they're a good alternative if you enjoy a grilled potato, but don't expect the typical crunch of a deep fryer. On the plus side here, this also means their fries didn't come from SysCo. The service was perfectly fine... professional, timely, and I had no issues during my visit. While the burger and potatoes were middle-of-the-road, the "skillet-only" kitchen setup makes me curious about their other staples.
