We were very lucky to find this place on a busy Sunday morning on a long game day weekend. Every where we tried had over an hour wait. This place hustles you through and has a delicious diner menu. Small location, old style diner, churning and burning. Offer a full breakfast and lunch menu. Everyone was very helpful, but they are so busy and newly opened that they kind of lose track of the people coming in so there were three tables available and we were waiting along with many other people to be seated. Eventually we got tired of waiting and just sat ourselves. I don't think they were prepared to be slammed with so many patrons. I had recently been to the tire shop to order some tires for my car, and as I was on the other side of town for the first time in months at a breakfast hour, I figured I would get some breakfast. Darrell's Diner was right there, and it had been years since I had been there, so figured I would give it a shot for actual breakfast. The place is a proper diner, and had that vibe about it. People were in there to have breakfast, get something warm in their belly before facing the rest of the day. A table in the corner had a couple of Sheriff's office folks sitting at it grabbing a bite, the whole bit. I ordered up a pretty standard breakfast... eggs, hash browns, some french toast, and corned beef hash. All were good, though I remember the hash browns as being a bit under-done. A good filling breakfast, one that I rarely have. I would definitely go back for a breakfast like this, though not very often. Not because it is bad... it is just bad for my waistline! read more

Darrell's deserves five stars because of a combination of elements. First, the staff is extremely welcoming! I went for breakfast and thankfully it wasn't that crowded so we we had a very personalized experience. It's an open-faced kitchen and even the cook was personable. I even saw one guy who's a regular stand at the counter and have a nice chat with them. I love that down home feel! Secondly, as I mentioned, it's an open-faced kitchen and sometimes that type of transparency can make or break a restaurant. I'm glad to say that proper sanitation is being used, the kitchen was clean, and so was the dining room. During my visit I even witnessed the cook wash his hands several times and changes his gloves to avoid contamination. A+ in my world, because cleanliness is always an important factor for me. Now, the food. In wonderful diner fashion, it has all the normal choices--from breakfast to lunch and dinner. Prices are definitely fair and reasonable. I opted for eggs, grits, sausage, and a cinnamon swirl pancake (only 1.25 upcharge). While the former three aren't anything to write home about (although it was definitely tasty) it's that pancake that's gonna have me driving across town to get. It's huge, fluffy, and actually not too sweet. They must use cinnamon sugar because some parts were definitely crystallized. I Loved that! Gave it a nice crispness on the outside. Yum!!! read more

Ordered extra butter and got margarine. Menu prices are incorrect. My French toast as listed at $9.50 and wife's 1/2 order of pancakes was listed at 4.50. The bill had $10.14 and $7.27 respectively. They said that was the credit card price and I told them I do not pay for their cost of doing business. So, paid cash and could not figure out the bill after that. Left message for owner to call and never heard back. Do not waste your time or money. We will never go back as there are plenty of other restaurants within a block or two. read more

My husband did order a side of sausage, and WOW, YUMMY! The service was quick, orders were correct, and everything was a good temperature. My husband got the combo with chili and a half tuna sandwich. The sandwich was fresh and delicious while the chili was meh. I got a Buffalo chicken wrap with potato salad. The Buffalo chicken wrap was decent, but the potato salad was really disappointing. The potato salad was bland, some of the potato was undercooked, and the chunks of potato were really big. We both ordered sweet tea and it was good. I wish I would have just ordered breakfast because that might have been a better experience. I would definitely return to try breakfast. Your prices are to high. First off the menu stated $7.75 for three egg breakfest, 3 eggs soft scrambled hash browns bacon toast, not that bad. Then asked for grits no butter and coffee. Then they served my eggs hard scrambled grits with butter, bill came to $20.23. took a double take. Coffee is $3.50 and grits $3.65. I was over charged about $4.00 dollars or more. I don't know about cost butt $3.50 for coffee I can buy a half pound bag for that much and make 24 cups, as for grits $3 for 24oz box and make 20 2oz cups. You folks are just like all the restaurant overpriced and you over charge on top of that, no thanks, besides that I can cook it faster and better. read more

Discovered this place by accident while trying to find somewhere that was not only minority owned but served pancakes. This place doesn't have a lot of reviews, and they haven't been open very long, but they're in a popular shopping plaza located directly behind my friends house and we decided to try them one morning. First, when you pull up from the outside it does not look as spacious as it is on the inside. There are probably 20 to 30 tables, which can seat anywhere from parties of 2 to 6. There is a bar traversing the length of the kitchen, and currently that was covered in menus and all sorts of desserts (more on the latter in a sec). We were served by a wonderful waiter named Chris. He was able to discuss some of the things on the menu with us and when my friend pointed out that he thought there was red velvet cake on the counter, he said "it definitely is and if you want I'll bring you over a slice at the end". We were sold! Our food came out very quickly was piping hot. The pancakes are like the ones you would make at home: the right amount of brown on both sides, kind of crispy on the edges. They came with a heaping container full of warm butter (which I love because it makes it more spreadable). I do feel like they should give you more than one container for the syrup because their pancakes, while they're not huge, they are very absorbent. The eggs were to die for! Think of waffle house eggs but not as wet. And I know for a lot of people that sort of wet egg is really, really desirable (and I am one of those people), but there was something about the way these eggs were made. The amount of American cheese they used in them and the fact that they required absolutely zero seasoning. We got what referred to as a 2-2-2. It's two hotcakes, two choices of meat (we chose bacon) and two eggs. The bacon was not very crispy, but definitely cooked to perfection. They also do not charge for coffee with breakfast, which was a pleasant surprise! We opted for the red velvet cake, and the slice was HUGE, so we decided to get it to go lol. This is one of my favorite places to visit. There are so many good reasons. Foremost they are mobility friendly. By that I mean they can handle a walker or wheelchair. Everything is on an even surface and there is a ramp leading up to the sidewalk. I also love that their servers are friendly. They welcome you with a smile every time. As for food, it's good comfort food. One of my favorites is their pancakes. They are fluffy and so good. They cook the oatmeal to perfection and they offer brown sugar and raisins with it. Score!!! Darrell's is definitely a five-star place because they have great food, friendly staff, and are handicap accessible. For that price at similar breakfast restaurants I would normally have enough food for leftovers. My friend got fries that were sort of undercooked and wet. We stopped at Darrell's while on a road trip to Florida from Texas. The food was amazing! The French toast was so good and the hash brown "mixer" was way better than I anticipated. I ordered the hash browns with ham. It was a very generous portion. A great place for a home cooked breakfast. The service was also great. Our server was so good with our 4 year old granddaughter and just had the best attitude... you can tell she loves her job! The restaurant was nicely decorated and very clean. We did not even get to try the food due to the outrageous "NO Sharing" policy. You will be charged $3 if you share a plate you paid for as stated in their menu picture below. When I read this I thought it was a joke at first and decided to ask even though I was not planning on sharing a plate and she (the waitress) responded with a serious answer stating that "it was the policy and many restaurants are doing it". I simply said "ok thank you" and left. If I want to grab the plate that I paid for and throw it down the drain then that is my problem. China is taking notes from this restaurant. Furthermore, there is an outrageous credit card fee if you pay with a card instead of cash. Also, the food is not cheap by any means, an omelet with ham and some veggies will run you around $13-14, I went across the street to Panera and ate more for less. My sister and I decided to eat here on a weekend where Peach Valley was on a 1+ hour wait. Big mistake. We wanted to love it, since this location seems to be doomed and businesses never survive here very long. We had high hopes since we saw people rave about this place on Facebook and their Ocala location. We both ordered the fried chicken salad the same way - no onions. Our server rang our order up as one fried chicken salad and one chicken salad (like the mushy kind that you get from Chicken Salad Chick). He did notice it was wrong when it came out, so he told us it would be a bit longer and sent both plates back. The first fried chicken salad sat on the counter while the cooks hurried to get another piece of chicken fried. It was cold by the time we got it and of course both salads had onions on it, plus they were missing the cucumbers and peppers that we actually wanted. There was one tiny, lone chicken fillet on top of each plate. I wish I would have taken a photo because it was one of the smallest, saddest looking entree salads that I've ever gotten at any restaurant. The server told us he would make this right by comping something, but he charged us for both entrees and just took $2 off of one of the items. It was awful.
