I left my visit with expectations exceeded. The location is great centrally located in downtown. The staff was super friendly. So disappointed by my visit here because I was told this is a sister restaurant to The Top, which I love. It's a smaller establishment, but the staff were friendly. This new, spacious and stylish modern diner is a great addition to the Gainesville downtown scene. I popped in for a late breakfast and was able to get a seat at the counter. Service was fine and, since I didn't have much time, I just had coffee while I waited and an egg and cheese biscuit to go. It came with a side so I got fruit! When we entered such a cute new restaurant in town, we were surprised by the service. It started with the coldest greeting, never got water refills and the seats were very close to other groups. I ordered the French toast which was told the seasonal stuffing was out but they could still make regular French toast. We also ordered a fruit filled pastry and it was so cold! They could have at least popped it in the microwave. It was pricey and was still charged the seasonal French toast despite just getting the regular French toast with 6 blueberries on the side. My first experience at the Florida Room was great! I ordered the Shakshuka Huevos Rancheros which was an interesting mashup, but delicious. It was well spiced, but not spicy per se. I added the delicious Zab's datil hot sauce which was perfect. I'm not much of a bloody mary fan but the ones at the Florida Room are really good & creative (infused vodka, gin, tequila). I did LOVE the oat milk cappuccino. It tasted toasted from the steamed oat milk. I have been back since my first visit and the next time I ordered the fried rice. No complaints there! I thought it was well cooked (eggs included). The veggies had a bit of a char on them which I liked and the eggs were runny but some of the yolk was hard, which is good for me (someone who isn't obsessed with the runny yolk). Overall, I enjoyed my meals here as well as the ambience. It's nice to have another breakfast option in Gainesville! I will be back to try more things :) read more
