Located off Archer a little bit south of I-75 in the Butler plaza area, this small unassuming drive thru is apparently a well known gem in Gainesville. I was told the lines can get pretty long but when we arrived around noon, it was just us. We looked at the big menu when you drive up but weren't super what we wanted to drink. We then pulled up to the order window and saw they had some additional specials and drinks. Intrigued by a couple of the options, the girl inside was very helpful letting us know what each flavor consisted of. We decided on the iced baklava with oatmilk (pistachio, white chocolate, and honey) and do not sleep on this!! Run to try this if you like those flavors!! While it was a little sweeter than I prefer, it was delicious! We also got a hot creme brûlée and it was good, mainly caramel flavored. Prices were very reasonable and service was quick and friendly. There are a lot of coffee options in this market (we went to 3 different ones in as many days) and this was by far my favorite. read more

There did appear to be one side of for vehicle drive thru and another for walk up. A two dollar charge for orders above 40$. When we finally got our drinks and bagels, I will say that the bagels were soft and toasted just right. The coffee was good but not the best I've ever had, but did have light ice so that was great. The smoothie tasted fresh and real thick. The menu was quite large and lots of variety for the small spot that is and everything was received with no issue. read more

In my 18 years of living here in Gainesville I had never been to this place before. It's like a little house with windows, you order from your car, or through the other window walking. If you are in a hurry, I recommend that you do not go, because the wait is a bit long, although it is worth the wait, because the coffee is wonderful. And the prices are acceptable. I ordered a cappuccino and my daughter ordered an ice Caramel latte, delicious and perfect. It has several types of coffee. They also have a smoothie. I've seen this place many times in Butler Plaza. It's hard to miss; it's in the middle of a parking lot. Last weekend I decided quench my curiosity. I walked up and ordered, but you can also order via drive thru. I got an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and a smoothie. The sandwich was just ok, and over priced in my opinion. Such a cute little joint! I was in the area and wanting to support a local business. Bay Islands appeared since I was staying in a hotel nearby and decided to check it out. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted until I saw they still offered pumpkin! I love pumpkin flavored everything so when I saw it on their menu I was ecstatic! I choose their iced coffee with pumpkin pie and caramel with C&S & an Asiago bagel sandwich with sausage, egg, and cheese. The breakfast sandwich was great! Soft bagel and not overly cheesy. The coffee was good, but not great. I am not sure if the caramel was added, but I could only taste pumpkin and it was just a hint. read more

Amazing coffee on the go. They've been in Gainesville for years and me being here for 18 years I never tried them until today. I had the cheddar jalapeño bagel and a caramel latte with almond milk. They have great variety of coffees and food items for being a small establishment. I recommend anyone to go and check them out. There's something for everyone and they have smoothies as well for non coffee drinkers. Sometimes it's quite a wait time but to be expected so if in a hurry I recommend to not stop by but if willing to wait it is well worth it. Overall: I've been going to this place for ~4 years. However, the quality and service has really gone down. The workers don't know the prices for the daily deals. I was just charged $6 for an ICED Chai that should've been $3.50 before tax and it tastes horrible. Support another local business. Today's my last day ever going back. --First experiences (not pleasant)-- I won't lie my first experiences here with staff (mainly the owner) were very unpleasant. He kinda looks like Tom Green as Chad from Charlie's Angels (throwback I know). I remember asking some question about the food they sell, and was overwhelmed by the amount of choices on their menu. I was also worried I'd get honked at because of the line. His response "it's on the menu." I tried asking different ways and the response was the same. At the time, I didn't know he was the owner. --Why did I go back?-- There was a few workers that were kind (women of course - actually come to think of it there aren't any other men who work there besides the owner... Ok back on topic. Those women were kind; they made the drinks so well, and even got me hooked on the breakfast sandwiches. The only one I see once in a while is a woman named Chrissy. The daily deals are great tbh and I love supporting local. --Why I am not going back?-- * Drinks are inconsistent. I love their iced chai, but it keeps getting more watery. I've had their other drinks and it never tastes the same. It's like ordering a steak medium and getting a range from rare to well-done (with rare being the average) except you can't send your coffee back. *Deals not remembered by workers I hate having to always say "is that the right price? Isn't today ____?" It makes me wonder if the owner trains them to not give the deal unless it's asked? Why should I sit there and calculate the price for you with tax? * Tipping I always try to tip workers, but what I've noticed that it's been inconsistent. I've had workers say we can't take tip unless it's cash....but then when the owner is there, he will gladly add it to the card. I'm giving 2 stars because it is worth a try at least once, but just be ready to add the price and tax. Also, be careful of the inconsistent drinks. The bagels were fresh and smelled amazing and taste just as good. My daughter got the Mango, Pineapple, Coconut smoothie & my husband had an oat milk latte... I tried to build my own frozen coffee, but the rude man making the drinks was difficult to understand and seemed grumpy... so I got a coconut blended cappuccino. The drinks didn't disappoint. We waiting a bit in line for drive thru but it was worth it. They have enough syrup flavors and different milk substitutes to please our picky group. Once we ordered it only took a couple minutes to get our drinks. The coffee had a great flavor and the iced coffees were amazing. What a hidden gem! Bay Islands is one of my favorite coffee places in Gainesville! Cute drive-through and quick service. It does get busy sometimes, but I do think it's worth the wait. I love their summer specials, especially the berry latte! You get a strong, but not overwhelming, kick of the berry syrup. It's not too sweet and pretty refreshing. If you're a huge coffee fan, this is something definitely worth to try! It's literally a small random building in the middle of a parking lot, why not? I usually get the iced Caramel Latte at this place and it never disappoints! It's rich and has a good balance between coffee and milk. Their food is mostly breakfast sandwiches or bagels. Bagels are pretty soft and tasty. Just make sure that when you go, you have extra time to spare because it is a small building and the drive thru can go for a long time. Sometimes they'll only have 1 person in there so just be wary. Fun fact: If you are a dog owner, they give dog treats!! Probably one of the best iced chai lattes I've had. I've heard nothing but good things about this place, but I never got around to going myself since it's relatively far from where I live. It's a little shack out on Archer, but it's hard to miss. The drinks are great. I haven't tried their food yet, but their iced chai was phenomenal. I personally like being able to actually taste the spices, so I really appreciated how much flavor was packed into my drink. The service was decent, & I got my order pretty quickly. My first time experience wasn't very pleasant. So after waiting for a good amount of time in line and witnessing 2 cars leave the drive thru I finally make it to the walk up window. I'm standing waiting not being acknowledged. Both girls look at me and nothing. Finally she says what can I get you. I then order and she says just so you know we don't do food at the walk up window. Why do you have a menu then? She says only on weekdays but you can wait it'll just be a long time because cars have priority. Look I understand the car thing but why make me wait why not have a sign over food not on weekends. I got a coffee to try to at least give a review. Food & drink were well and good. However, the gentleman working the stand provided terrible service. It was our first time visiting and we ordered two drinks and two food items. He must not have heard the second food item; when he handed off the other three items, we kept waiting so he asked what else we needed. We informed him we were missing a bagel. He proceeded to passive aggressively tap and point at a small sign and exclaimed, "that's why we order food items first." He took that order and quietly charged us for this other item and said, "you'll have to pull around and pick it up at the pick up window." When I picked up my bagel, I told him that we did order the food but he must not have heard, we've never been here before, and kindness goes a long way in these interactions in which he said "okay" coldly. I personally can't stand when people are unnecessarily unkind in the service industry, and this interaction would be enough to make me never go back to this location. read more

I have come on multiple occasions and had to leave because I was sitting in the line for 30+ minutes behind a couple of cars. When I do get a chance to get there coffee it is good. This is one of Gainesville's hidden gems and can be really easy to miss if you have never been here before. It's a small stand alone shack in the middle of butler plaza. Doesn't look like much on the outside but there is more than meets the eye! Great food, great prices. I ordered a pumpkin spice latte (yes, IN MAY!) and a bagel with veggie cream cheese, turkey and egg. It was perfect! They have different specials for everyday of the week which is nice, and the line can get long especially in the mornings. You can park and walk up to the window if you prefer that.
