This is a cute boba teashop with some egg waffles on the side! It's a nice study nook, too, if you don't mind the noise and ambience. It's located snugly in the plaza, and it's a little hard to find at first. There's plenty of food places nearby if you wanted more filling items. There's a good amount of space to study/work or hang out, though not all tables are located near an outlet. Most of them are within reach, though. Drinks: I've tried a few of their milk tea drinks and their fruity teas. I appreciate the different customizations, ranging from sugar level, ice level, topping options to different milk options. I do think their tea flavor is not very strong, and at times, the drinks come off as watery. Other times, the tea has an odd bitter tang also as if incorrectly steeped. Their tapioca balls/boba is chewy and pretty decent. I think of all their drinks, their fruity drinks are probably the best made. They use real fruit bits, and they have interesting combinations. Egg waffle: I LOVE egg waffles (puffles), so I was very excited to see this being offered. They have fun add ons with the ice cream and toppings, which I think is fun. However, what I don't like is how the ice cream quickly turns the waffle soggy and thus not as good to eat. Okay for our first visit. We tried the Thai tea, chocolate shaved ice, strawberry shaved ice, and mango shaved ice. The Thai tea was good. I ordered regular sweetness. You could really taste the tea as it wasn't drowned out by condensed milk or anything else. I'd get it again. The three shaved ice flavors were all refreshing, but were not what we were expecting. The mango ice came with fresh mango and the strawberry ice came with fresh strawberry. The shaved ice had a stickiness and unique texture that we were not expecting. I wouldn't really consider any of the shaved ice as a substitute for traditional patbingsoo. Customer service was good, and the staff was very welcoming. The boba pearls have a good consistency--not too hard, not too chewy. Out of all the boba shops in Gainesville, this is my favorite place to study, too. I like the ambience a lot. It's quiet with music softly playing in the background. In the daytime, you get natural light coming in from the windows, and at night, the lights are slightly dim, allowing me to feel relaxed without getting sleepy. The aesthetic is trendy and modern with its combination of white, wood, black accents, and plants. I've gotten lucky and have always been able to study here when it's not crowded. Many college organizations host socials or fundraisers here so I suggest that you avoid coming during those events if you're trying to find a quiet, less crowded place to study. We had high hopes for the milk tea, but it was nothing special. Although it looked great, the flavor was lacking. The only reason why I would come back here is if they had another Hooked BOGO free deal. With the deal, each drink cost about $2.50, which is a pretty good deal compared to the other boba shops in Gainesville. As of now, this place is my least favorite boba shop in Gainesville because they can't even make their milk tea correctly, but I'll try their other drinks in the near future and hopefully change my mind. read more

OK. So the four stars is because I do think they have a very good product and atmosphere, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to come here very often because the portion size (and consequently the price) only makes sense for me if I'm sharing. The plus side: I love shaved ice (I just realized this is my third shaved ice Yelp review, but 1. I love it and 2. it's not like I can eat ice cream without taking a handful of pills) and their shaved ice is really nice and fine and smooth almost to the point of being creamy. I also love lychee, so it's nice to have that available as a flavor choice. They also give you LOTS of toppings, so in addition to the two actual (canned) lychee fruit you also get your choice of three extras. I was very happy with my choices, especially the butter waffle cookie. I would buy those to eat by themselves. HOWEVER. However, at $6.42 and big enough to split with a friend, this doesn't really fit into my world. At Charlie's I can spend $3 and get enough so that I don't feel like I'm wasting anything. I feel guilty spending $6.42 on a treat that is basically just sugar and happiness. Hope this doesn't come off too whiny! As I said, it's a good product, it's just basically twice the portion size of what fits into my life. They've got a really minimalist look going on, which I think would make frosty fox a great study spot. They have ample seating and everything was very clean. At the times I visited, it never felt overcrowded or loud. I tried the hong kong milk tea, the brown sugar latte, and the mango green tea, and liked all of them. The brown sugar milk latte with cheese foam could have been sweeter (and I like my cheese foam a little thicker and saltier), but overall all the drinks were delicious. The chewy boba did tend to clump up over time for me, not sure why. The service was great, and the staff behind the counter always explained the drinks/toppings to me and offered samples, which I appreciated. Prices were reasonable for the sizes and they had different customization options (type of milk, level of sweetness, amount of ice) I feel like frosty fox stands out from other bubble tea places because their menu feels curated - they don't offer tens to hundreds of different drinks and combinations, and that 1) makes it easier as a consumer to choose a drink if you're someone (like me) who gets overwhelmed with too many options and 2) presumably allows them to dedicate more time/effort to putting out a quality product (quality over quantity). read more

I like their minimal, clean style (their bathrooms are also impeccably clean!) and how they play ambient lofi music rather than super loud pop music. They usually have seating available in one of their booths. As for drinks and food, they offer many different kinds of boba, shaved ice, and egg waffles. As the day was chilly I tried a warm earl grey boba tea with 30% sugar. Although the tea was good, the boba did get a little soggy with the warm tea so I might recommend it without the boba if you like chewy boba. I'm also a fan of egg waffles so I had to try the matcha waffle. They don't allow as many customizations as poke bowl station (you can't get matcha ice cream) but you can pick 3 toppings, of which I chose red bean, mochi, and butter waffle cookie. I tried the brown sugar latte with soy milk & boba and it was delicious! Not sure if it was the soy milk, but the drink was on the lighter side which I prefer. They do have non-dairy milks and don't charge extra for them which I really appreciate! One thing to note is that they do tend to put a lot of boba in their drinks. If you like boba, you may like this. But if you're used to moderate/average amounts of it, then you might want to consider asking for lighter amounts of boba. I felt that about a third of my drink was filled with it, which is just a bit too much for me. Had a brown sugar milk boba and it was straight milk . Practically $5 for milk . Unbelievable. My mom was also upset with her drink item and asked them if she could get something else . Came to Frosty Fox after eating some delicious Hot Pot across the street at Nine Spice. I had heard positive things about Frosty Fox and decided to come in and try them out. I came in around 1:30 on a Saturday and I was the only person there. They had 2 employees working, one making the drinks and the other taking the money. I decided to get the a Pineapple Slush and had them add boba. I wish I hadn't got the boba, as they put a lot in. I also wish they had different type of boba like the bursting ones, they would taste great inside the slush's. The Pineapple Slush was very good though, it was super fresh and exactly what I was looking for on a hot Florida day. I got the large and they asked if I wanted whip cream on top! Of course I took the whip cream. Next time I am in I will for sure try the shaved ice or a puffle. This place has plenty of seating, but because of COVID-19 they are doing take-out only. I hope this place attracts more business as I'd hate to see this place fizzle away.
