Friend of mine spoke very highly of this restaurant. It is tucked away in a tiny shopping center in High Springs Florida. We got there and were met by some very friendly young ladies who sat us down right away. Their menu was very nice they have an amazing breakfast menu too!! But decided to go for lunch options. Couple appetizers and i went with the philly cheesesteak, sooooo good!! Only could eat half, took the rest home.wife got a reuben and she ended up taking half home as well. You definitely wont go home hungry!!! And i also always like to base a restaurant on how sweet their sweet tea is, and Blue Star didnt disappoint!! So this location has been a number of different things over the years. I think I was in there once back when it was a barbecue place, but since then it has also been a bakery, and now a grill. I went in for lunch, figuring it was another place to give a shot. The menu is pretty standard for a diner style restaurant, with heavy emphasis in the morning for omelettes, then your usual burgers and other homestyle goodies in the afternoon and evening. I went for the Texas burger, asking for it to be cooked medium. What I got was more rare, bordering on blue. Not a good start. The fries that came with it were predictably SysCo style fries. No proof that they were actually provided by such, but they definitely had the style. Staff were friendly, and the seating at the bar was comfortable. Realistically, I don't see myself going back any time soon, unless a group of people invite me to go. Place was a cozy hole in the wall. Small down country living. My server was nice, young but forgetful. I asked for ham to be in my scrambled eggs instead of just a large piece of ham but it is what it is, I asked if they had yellow or red onion and they all asked each other as if they didn't know the difference. Never knew this was in High Springs. My boyfriend and I came to town for the fall festival and grabbed breakfast here. They have tons of options from over a dozen different types of omelets, breakfast burritos, bowls and more. I got the California bowl and it was really good and a big portion too. When folded in half, it made a regular sandwich ... with most of the fillings on one side. A good amount of meat; the bread was toasted, the sandwich not grilled. I read all the reviews and decided to give Blue Star a go for breakfast. I was not impressed! The food was not good at all. Biscuits were not scratch made, probably frozen and the grits just so so. Coffee was good, but that's about it. Won't be going back anytime soon, unless some changes are made in the foods that are prepared and served. Wait staff was also a plus. read more

I've been here twice, and the food and cleanliness are both excellent. The food is amazing -- definitely eat here if you get the chance. However, the service and employee demeanor could use some improvement. The staff tends to drop things off quickly and leave, giving the impression they don't want to be asked for anything extra. It was also difficult to get refills. Our waitress came by only twice -- once to take our drink and food order, and again when we were ready for the check. We had to ask another server for a refill. Unfortunately my order took quite a while- 15 minutes, was incorrect and the food was only a bit warmer than room temperature. I gave it 3 stars generously because they work hard. have eaten here 4 times now and I keep trying to give it a chance. Three times out of 4 I haven't liked my meal. Once was breakfast and the eggs were not cooked "over light" the white was barely cooked. The potatoes ok. The next was a BLT and that was good. The third time was shrimp on rice and it was awful. This time was the special with flounder, scallops and shrimp. It came with coleslaw. The shrimp and scallops were very good but the flounder was creepy. We had to send it back to cook more it was grey and not white. It was also rubbery and tough even before we sent it back. I would not order again. The coleslaw was mushy like it was over blended. Looking at reviews I think it deserves better ratings ! It was the only place open around here so that's a plus and also probably their biggest flex. Food was good. Nothing absolutely astonishing but it's a local dive restaurant it's not going to be a michilan star. Lol we got the BLT with home fries and I'll say big portions which was awesome and a good price ! I got the Mickey Mouse pancakes for my little and bonus points for making it into a shape for the kiddos. Only thing I'll agree with on the "bad" reviews is the food does feel a little greasy. I love this place. Breakfast all day and blue plates all day. The Service is great. The food is good and the amounts cause me to take a doggy bag every time I eat there. There are some things that are better elsewhere but that is true with every eatery. I am a big girl and I can't even finish their omlets or even their unbelieveable sized hamburgers.
