Passing through and decided to stop in. It was a random pick for me and a friend traveling and the place turned out to be great. I had one of the specials of the day(chicken alfredo) and my friend had the Chicken & Waffles. Both dishes were great. I'm not use to tomatoes in my Alfredo sauce but it worked and the dish was delicious. The fried chicken was so good and had that homemade taste. The staff was very attentive and pleasant to talk to. Our waitress was Makhena and she was great and made us feel very welcomed. We will definitely come back when we pass through again and recommend a visit to others we know. read more

I was excited to eat here because of its rating on Yelp but that excitement quickly turned to frustration. I saw what was clearly my meal sitting under the heat lamp for over 10 minutes. Every time I thought my server was going to get it, she went into the back. Finally she came by our area and said the food should be up shortly. Pointed out that the food has been waiting in the window for over 10 minutes. The food arrives, room temperature, no bueno. The Monte Christo was fried and barely warm. Didn't taste fresh at all. The English muffin was hard as a brick. Then a different server comes over and tells me that he has good news and bad news. The bad news was that our fries were burned so we weren't getting them but the good news was they weren't charging us for them. The fries we never received. Let that sink in... I watched the fries sit under the heat lamp for about 20 minutes when they told us. Overall a terrible customer experience and would never go back. read more

Ever going through Gainesville this place is a must stop.. they have something for everyone. Service was on point, all the food top rate.

Very good burger. Also their fried jalapenos are amazing. Portions are large, so big boys like me can only order one meal and be satisfied.

Good was amazing always. Pot pie is to die for. The service is excellent but you're going to want to go early because it gets very busy.

Due to my initial review, the manager of Metro Diner reached out to me and wrote me a sincere email. I have still been recommending Metro Diner to ppl and will continue to do so. I believe what I experienced was a fluke. I really appreciate the personal touch of an email and call from a busy restaurant manager, and the offering of a complimentary meal. I am giving Metro a 5 star rating due to my first experience there and the care and service I received after a not so good experience there. read more

I really can't give a full review of Metro since I haven't tried everything, but I love their breakfast food (waffles, different kinds of eggs benedict, hash browns, grits, etc.). The only thing I wouldn't get here again that I've tried is the fish and chips. When I had it the breading was thin and not great. Other than one bad meal they have great service and good food. read more

Rarely write reviews, but this place absolutely deserves it. Had the steak frites - medium rare was actually medium rare and seasoned perfectly. Frites were very well done. What really stands out here is the service and their attention to detail. From the server I had to the management, this place runs extremely well and they clearly have it together. Would highly recommend. read more

We went there on Sunday 8/7/16 arriving at 8:20 AM with five people so we expected a minor wait. Keep in mind school was still out. Fortunately, there were five seats (out of a total of six) available at the counter which looks at the grills. It probably isn't what everyone would want but having worked in a restaurant as a teenager it was great to see such a smooth operation and get to watch how the food was prepped. I counted 10 cooks and prep workers. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict which is two crab cakes on a split English muffin topped with crab cakes and two poached eggs and the sauce, hash browns on the side. The wife ordered a special consisting of an omelette with crab meat filling, asparagus spears on top with Hollandaise sauce, hash browns as the side. It's as good as you can get from a small chain high volume diner. The regular items on the menus will keep you busy for quite a few visits and, as mentioned, they have specials all the time. The breakfasts we ordered ranged from 9 to 12 bucks without drinks although there were plenty of meals in the 6 buck range, Service was timely and courteous. Next trip, when I'm really hungry, will be the chicken waffle, half a fried chicken, with a waffle. read more

Chicken biscuit, grits, coffee all hot and fast. Can't help but love it. While the have a solid menu with lots of choices, the basics are so well done that there is little incentive to stray. read more

Casey W was our server and she was absolutely wonderful. She was such a pleasure - very attentive, friendly, knew the menu extremely well, and kept offering to refill my tea with hot water. The food was absolutely great. Had a bit of a scare because I wanted something on the specials chalkboard menu but they were erasing it by the time I was ready to order. Casey took care of it and made sure the whole table was happy. read more

Great food and huge portions, what's better? The staff is always extremely friendly and attentive. The food is always out in a timely fashion. When you receive your food the first word that will come to mind is "WOW!". read more

As someone who loves to frequent brunch places, I have to say that I was especially pleased with this place. Service was great from the start. My boyfriend and I were promptly greeted and then seated at a booth. I ordered a sweet tea, and my boyfriend got an unsweetened tea. We both ordered biscuits with the sausage gravy and our own breakfast sandwiches. He got the croissant breakfast sandwich and I got a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich. We absolutely loved the food! The portions were pretty big and reasonably priced. The sausage gravy itself was thick and meaty and the biscuits were very soft! In addition, the cheese on my biscuit sandwich was melted beautifully (because I take my cheese very seriously). A fun fact about the place that we learned from looking at the photos near us was that Guy Fieri, from food network, actually came and visited the place! All in all, we really liked the place and I'll be sure to come back! read more

Most amazing meals. This morning we had huevos rancheros which was amazing and a little different than other places - healthier black beans versus pinto. Super large portions. Service was great - place was packed - always a good sign of great food - oh flavored coffee is available - we had chocolate cherry cordial!! read more

This place is awesome. Old style diner with all American food. Usually super busy so get there early period usually a wait, but that's okay the food is worth it. read more

The place was crowded at 3 in the afternoon, so you know it's good! Ivy was our server and she was fantastic! I had the burger with mushrooms, Swiss and bacon. Love it when I can order it medium rare! It came with a side and I chose fries. Burger was great, fries were good. A friend with me had the burger inside 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. That was pretty awesome! They serve breakfast and lunch all day! read more

Great service, excellent workers, very neat and clean, the people are very nice there. I would tell anyone to go there.

Love this place the food is always good I've eaten hear more times than I can count it's def a hidden gem of gainsville with some good home style cooking read more

I was pretty disappointed with the atmosphere and food. The staff was excellent and incredibly friendly. I ordered the veggie burger and had to eat it with a fork, as it fell apart pretty quickly. The flavor was ok, but nothing better than a frozen black bean burger. I rather have spent my money at Burgerfi (they have the best veggie burger and fresh fries). I know people rave about the portions at this place, but I want quality. read more

Definitely a really busy place in the morning for breakfast so I respect how hard it could be for the waiters to reach every table. Ordered the Monte Cristo which I would recommend ordering if your really hungry, it's definitely a lot. Tried the crab cakes and the fried chicken and waffles and I adore the strawberry butter it's very different. The food overall is great quality and definitely worth the price which is around 10-15$. read more

Great food. Good service. They are very busy but pretty proficient very clean, professional staff. We are from out of town, but travel to Gainesville several times a year. read more

Had breakfast with my family this weekend. Brief wait about 20 minutes with coffee and water available while you wait. Well worth the wait! Had San Francisco Eggs Benedict...delicious with a pile of hash browns. My family's selections were great of Crab Cake Benedict and fried chicken and waffles. Large portions...coffee was perfect. The service was excellent. read more

We have had four meals here so far and the food has consistently been tasty and hearty diner entrees, both breakfast and lunch. Omelettes are fluffy. Service is average to great depending on the server. Food comes out fast with moderate crowd, a bit slow when busy. Their decadent yo hala on the square is the fluffiest bread stuffed with fruit and cream cheese and drenched in a warm blueberry topping both sweet and a little tart. Best when shared, only half as sinful. read more

Very good! Best breakfast, lunch and dinner in town! Very awesome! Waitress just came in mixed hot syrup with Louisiana hot sauce, so very good! read more

Metro Diner - Diners Near Me - Gainesville, Florida

Wow! What a gem this place is! My husband and I decided to give this place a try on a Saturday morning after all the hype we had heard. I ordered the pot roast dinner with mashed potatoes, and he had some plate with eggs over easy and an assortment of sausage and bacon. We also ordered a half portion of Yo Hala on the Square- it was delicious!! The portion sizes were huge, you definitely got your money's worth! The wait was not too bad, even with a bunch of people ahead of us waiting. I can't wait to come back again to try out some different items. read more

Excellent breakfast place! Excellent dinner place! If you go, definitely try the yo halla on the square or the chicken and waffles. The specials are always unique and have tried those as well. At dinner time, the burger was good diner fare. If you're going for breakfast, go early or plan for a decent wait as this place is very popular! read more

What a fantastic breakfast I had today! Thank you metro diner! This place was seen on Diners, drive ins and dives with Guy at their original location in Jacksonville. I went to a location in Gainesville visiting my sister. I had the crab cake Benedict and it was d.e.licious! My sis got the spicy chicken Benedict and it looked like a master piece. Also shared a big ol pancake that we couldn't even finish! And my dad got the corned beef hash and I'm not talking about the canned it was REAL corned beef hash! I wanted to order everything on the menu! Thanks to our server/waiter who was very attentive. Unfortunately I forgot his name. Hands down I have it 5 stars. One of the best diners i have been to. read more

Was not impressed. My burger was just a very cheap beef patty between two very greasy grilled cheese. Fries were eattable. My buddies sandwich was so soggy he couldn't eat it but with a fork. Saw a group of two seated before us. For a $20 burger and coke there is way better and faster places. read more

The servers are very nice and give great service. But In my opinion the food is mediocre in quality. The portion sizes are ridiculously too big. I think if they focused more on food quality then it would be a top notch spot. read more

We went on a Saturday before a basketball game and it was packed. My only complaint is not with the food, we had great food- the biscuits and gravy and the suggestion for the snickerdoodle coffee was the best! We were waiting and saw those arriving after us being seated outside, when we asked we were told we needed to mention first available seating. Maybe adding that to the questions when putting your name in would alleviate any frustrations there. Other than that, we will be back and asking for first available seating! read more

Metro Diner is a bustling business! The place is always packed, but service never suffers. They are always staffed to the brim. Tables are cleaned quickly, and the servers are great! I love their advertisement place mats, actually. I love seeing small businesses supporting each other. To top it off: the food! Such a creative menu! read more

Honestly, their breakfast food is really amazing, more amazing than Cracker Barrel itself. However, there food is a little bit over priced some of their options on the menu, so get ready to spend about $20 just on yourself. Overall, it's great cute little diner. read more

After my 2nd visit here I have to amend. I had the crab cakes Benedict and they were exceptionally good. So too were the hash browns, which my server rightly suggested over the home fries (not that I don't like home fries, she just said the hash browns were her favorite side in the place). read more

Their was very good and fresh and I love how you can kinda see how they make it the pot pie was very good and fresh and all the ingredients tasted fresh over all read more

I see some reviews were around two stars and being around the restaurant business my hole life sometimes great restaurants like this will have that but don't let that change your mind because this place is clean, employees seem hard working and very friendly. Nice to have a real diner in town . Ended up getting the Charleston shrimp and grits which is hard to decide what to get here because everything is delicious I usually also get the granny d fish sandwich read more

This an old fashioned big breakfast diner. Had a big omelette and home fries. No room for toast. Excellent and served quickly. Bustling, energetic atmosphere. Good service. read more

Amazing food and breakfast! My go to spot especially the mornings before game days for a great big breakfast. I always get the eggs and toast with a side of hash browns but definitely recommend the fried chicken and waffles. A place you must try! read more

Pretty decent diner in Gainesville area. Shrimp and grits were awesome as always, but their waffles? Not a real Belgian style waffle like they claim to be. Tastes like Eggo. read more
