I've been to all the metro diners. This one isn't my favorite location; however, the food is still delicious!! The owners run a great business, they train their staff well and the food is so yummy!! Their breakfast is my favorite. I'm not a fan of their fish n chips because they used swai fish and I find that it fries up like jello--but that's my personal opinion. Their pancakes, French toast, yo halla on the square, and Benedict's are all delicious!! I hate that this location can't have bagels due to a lease restriction/competition issue with the bagel place a few spaces down but other than that it's one of my favorite breakfast places in Gainesville. read more

Excellent breakfast! Great portions and a nice variety. Really enjoyed the chicken and waffles and eggs Benedict.

Great food great service. Always busy which is a good sign. Atmosphere feels a little rushed at times but the food makes up for it! Love this place and thankful that we have the establishment here in Gainesville!!! read more

This place was the bomb! I stopped at this place on a work trip randomly and found out that Guy Fieri was here on his Tv show. This place was very simple and clean and our waiter was great, he gave me a great recommendation on a sandwich that wasn't on the menu! It was called the Southern Bell. Chicken, ham, tomato and pimento cheese! It was freakin amazing and I highly recommend it if you stop here! I'm so glad I came through! read more

I have been to the one in St. Augustine and this location and both are excellent. Great diner vibe and and a huge menu selection. I've previously had the chicken and waffles and they are fantastic. They recommend adding a little hot sauce to the syrup for an excellent addition to an already great meal. This trip I had the Metro Club sandwich as I have alway been a club sandwich aficionado, but theirs is off the chart. First off, they pile on the ingredients, so this is like eating two club sandwiches from anywhere else, so be hungry. I also had the homemade chips instead of fries and they were great as well. read more

We went on a Thursday night. We had a very helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable server. You can get the full menu after 3pm, just ask for it so you don't miss out on an amazing breakfast for dinner. Fried chicken is super crispy on the outside and super moist inside. And if you're an east coaster, you can get the FL Yuengling version. read more

Absolutely amazing food 1000/10. Definitely a Gainesville fave place to eat. The pancakes are amazing.

No frills, exactly what you expect out of American breakfast diner with good quality for price.

Not my first time at metro diner and definitely not the last, however, it is my first time here in quite some time and I'm delighted by the changes they've made during this pandemic. Our (always) amazing meal was complemented by stellar service from Zach. He was extremely attentive and answered every request with a smile (I could tell even under the mask!!). Thank you yet again metro diner! read more

We visited while moving our daughter to UF and it was the best brunch I'd had in a long time. The San Fran Benedicts are delicious and the huevos rancheros are out of this world. read more

Easter breakfast. 20 minute wait time which wasn't bad. Place was packed. Wife had the waffle and I had the 2 egg breakfast with sausage, hash browns and biscuit. Everything was quite tasty, especially the homemade biscuit. Server was great and the overall experience was worth the price and the wait. We regularly visit the one in Orange Park and have yet to be disappointed. Variety is fantastic. read more

I'm typically a fan of Metro diner, and I've been to this particular location (Gainesville) at least twice but today's meal was nothung shor of horrendous. The meal was not what I ordered so they had to take it back.and when the waitress brought out what supposed to be the correct meal t was on a dirty plate. Whats's more, my second glass of OJ had plastic and paper floating it. Also my husband commented that the taste of his food was subpar as well. It seems that metro diner has lowered its standard and not maintained an acceptable quality level of its food as well as service. read more

Great food and atmosphere, very quick service despite having a lot of customers. The staff are extremely friendly and efficient. My friends and I had a very pleasant experience. read more

One of my favorite breakfast places in Gainesville. The food is high quality and we always have great service. The wait can be a little longer than I wish on the weekends, but it really is worth the wait. They have a great patio that you can sit in year round as well as plenty of inside seating. Their patio is pup friendly which is a huge plus! I would recommend the challah bread french toast. It's delicious and very special to Metro....be sure to share it though!! Love this place and can't recommend it enough! read more

A great breakfast place! Beware this place is packed on the weekends! The chicken and waffles are big enough for two people. The eggs Benedict is another great menu item. Tables are very close together and it's small restaurant with an outside patio seating so it can get pretty loud. read more

Holy Davoli Burger was really great and enough for 4 people. I also love that you can get everything in the menu at anytime since I can do breakfast all day every day. Will definitely come back for a breakfast meal. Great first visit! read more

I decided to visit the Metro Diner during off peak hours to avoid a wait. Ah, yes! A giant wiff of a ciggarette burning as I walk through the door. Literally, burning on the ground at the enterance. But, this did not stop me for I see this placed packed all the time with outstanding reviews. At the Gainesville location - I ordered a simple breakfast. Not so fluffy scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and rye bread. My friend got the poached eggs that were not runny. This defeats the purpose of eggs benedict. It looked like mush. When cutting the English muffin was rubbery and difficult to seperate by knife. The hashbrowns were the worst. All I could taste was salt and greese. A giant portion of it. The server was nice and while she didn't ask us how the meal was, coffee to go was offered. I sat at the bench seat which was shared by another customer behind me. I managed to feel every time he moved forward to eat. What a bonding experience. I boxed my uneaten food for the homeless. Never to return. read more

This was my first time at this Gainesville location. Living in Jacksonville, I had previously been to that location and loved it. I had the same enjoyable experience in Gainesville that I had in Jacksonville. I went for lunch after an exhausting morning. The inside was extremely loud but the weather was perfect so I chose to sit outside. It was much quieter and very relaxing. I had the special that day, the bacon avocado burger. It was delicious! It was huge with tons of avocado! My mom had the monte cristo and that was also delicious. The raspberry jam was the perfect accompaniment and made the sandwich! The portion sizes are huge! We both took half of our sandwiches home. The other special for the day was a Reese's waffle--a Belgium waffle with peanut butter, chocolate, and banana. I will be back again to try that the next time!! read more

Biscuits and gravy was the best I have ever had. Perfect! Every bite was delicious. Also had a biscuit with bacon egg and cheese, again, perfection! Coffee was good, I like mine a lot stronger so I rarely like any coffee I get out but this was good flavor. Tried the challah bread with blueberry. Not something I liked. I think the French toast was freaking delicious without the banana and will definitely try it next time. I prefers simple foods and don't like a lot of stuff mixed together so it was not my thing. Service was great nice staff. We will be making this a must stop and eat when in the area. Kinda glad we live a bit away because I would gain much poundage eating too many biscuits for sure. Many times a place will be a let down after rave reviews but this place definitely does not disappoint!!! read more

Efficient service and great food ;-) ambiance is what you would expect from a diner - tables close together and nothing fancy.

I make it a point to visit Metro Diner anytime I am in Gainesville, FL visiting my handsome young GATOR at UF. This place is AMAZING. I've had a Val Halla a few times and it is simply divine! Our son had the Chicken & Waffles and he LOVED it. I don't like Sausage Gravy and Biscuits but there's is SO GOOD I always end up picking off my husbands plate whenever he orders it. The service is FAST & FRIENDLY. I would highly recommend you give it a try whenever you are in the area. I know I am looking forward to our next visit simply to enjoy another wonderful meal at Metro Diner. read more

Loved the food!! We went on a Sunday so it was suppppper packed. Not much social distancing. All of the staff wears their masks though!

Wasn't exactly the best experience. Some of the food was cold and undercooked when brought out, the place was dirty. One of our booth seats still had stuff spilled on it. Our waiter only came to our table twice, had to ask other waitresses and waiters for items. No drink refills, no checking to see how our food was to see if anything needed to be brought back. Overall wouldn't recommend, there's better mom and pop restaurants to go to in town or chain restaurant if that's your style. read more

On my trip to Gainesville had to visit this restaurant both days I was there, it was that good. Fried chicken is a MUST HAVE ! Big portions you can definitely share if you want to. This place use to have menu items for vegetarians or for anyone that were healthy, not anymore. Now everything on the menu is fattening, greasy and unhealthy. There's almost nothing on the menu for under 200 calories. read more

I travel with my job and always look for regular restaurants not your same old chains. I have been coming in for a week only had 1 problem the first daytime I was in. I ordered hashbrowns well done and they were barely cooked. It was busy and did not say anything until I was done with rest of meal. I did not eat them. (Told the waitress) I mentioned it the ext day when a mgr asked me how my morning was. He made sure they were cooked as asked for. Thank you for the great service and the waitresses are awesome. Food is great and the fact you can get anything on the menu at anytime is good too. Thanks read more

OK, so it's not quite like "friends" where when you walk in everybody knows your name but, it has that same feel and if you frequent enough, I'm sure they would know your name! Metro diner nails it in just about every department. This is definitely where the locals eat and the reason is simple. Good food, generous portions, a friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a pleasant atmosphere. This was my third time here and the first time getting something other than a breakfast item. After talking with our waiter, BJ, and discussing almost every item on the menu... LOL... I decided to go with the breakfast burger. OK, so maybe my lunch did have a element of breakfast but it was still lunch...that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Breakfast burger has a good-sized beef patty topped with cheddar cheese, hashbrowns, a fried egg, lettuce and tomato, and hollandaise sauce on a bun. I ordered mine medium well and with the hollandaise sauce on the side because I knew with the egg over easy I would be dealing with a mess already and I wanted to have a little bit of control over the extent of the mess. That was a good call. My burger showed up more on the medium well side but the flavor was still delicious. I opted for taking most of the hashbrowns off and I used the hollandaise sauce like mayonnaise. The burger was still a little messy but it was oh so worth it because it was delicious. Definitely get the hollandaise sauce on the side unless you want to eat your burger with a knife and fork... which would be OK too. The side of fries I ordered came out hot and just the way I like them... Not too crispy. I would highly recommend giving Metro diner a try and if you happen to be in Jacksonville, the original Metro diner has even more character but the same great food. You will definitely see why Diners Drive-Ins and Dives shot an episode there! This place gets busy so if you can avoid peak times, that's probably a good idea if you are in a hurry. This one is definitely on our list for frequent visits. read more

Stayed in the Hilton down the street, and boy was their Yo Hala (challah) french toast huge and amazing. Really hit the spot the morning before the start of Passover, also their American omelette is huge and delicious. Got an egg and cheese biscuit too and it was fabulous. Say at the counter top one day, nice view of them Crushing it on the grill. Also sat outside another day. Nice for a northern out of Towner to enjoy the outdoors a morning in March read more
