Just went to Metro Diner here for the first time since moving here and it's hands down one of our favorite places. Our waiter Reese was really nice and attentive, the food was excellent, and we were stoked about the $2.99 mimosas! Highly recommend! read more

Go to breakfast/brunch place in town. Portions are very fair and food very consistent.

This is the second time in a week that I have eaten here. Both were perfect. The first time we had a big group (25) and they did a pretty good job keeping up with everything. I had the pot roast. It was very juicy and tender. The portion size was big and it a good deal for the price. The second visit I had the Reuben. This sandwich was huge and a little messy but tasted great. I will definitely keep coming to this place. read more

If you are looking a breakfast with different options this is the perfect place. Food is a excellent as is service. Highly recommend.

My breakfast group gave this about four tries before deciding it really wasn't going to work. Our needs are simple: a diversity of good, fairly simple breakfast choices; good coffee; fairly prompt service; good food; a table large enough for six; good food; low enough ambient noise that we can hear our conversation. Did I mention good food? Metro Diner makes it on prompt service, adequate and comfortable table space, reasonable level of noise. (We meet early so didn't run into the crowds other reviewers have celebrated.) The coffee isn't bad. BUT . . . The food. There are myriad choices, and over our four visit, the six of us sampled quite a few of the simpler ones. We wound up asking questions like: how many ways can they screw up a bacon-egg sandwich? How do we help them understand the difference between toast and warmed, slightly stale-tasting bread? Since when are the yolks of eggs-over-medium supposed to be cooked hard? (Or on another visit, why are the whites on these e-o-m eggs runny?) Why is the cheese in my omelet not melted? You get the picture. With each visit, one and sometimes to of our party came out as winners, food-wise. But with so many other breakfast places to choose from, we decided to move on. A comment on service, which was admittedly always prompt and accurate. However: We had four different servers, all of whom behaved in the same way, so I'm guessing this is management policy: the server quickly assumes they are, and you want them to be, your best friend. You came to chat with them, to be interrupted 5-6 times for conversational comments (Go, Gators!) that go way beyond checking in to see if you are enjoying your meal. Note to management: this may be fun for some people, but for us it rose over the course of our visits from bothersome to irritating. So, sorry Metro Diner. I love diners, but this one doesn't do it for me. (PS it gets two stars for the table, the coffee and the noise level - and the fact that the servers really, really, really try.) read more

We were on our way to Miami for a cruise and stopped for the night in Gainesville. We looked on Yelp for a local restaurant and Metro Diner popped up. Once we were seated, we got drinks, ordered and the food appeared quickly and cooked to perfection. We had the fried chicken platter and the shrimp pasta which were both fantastic. The fried chicken comes with a dipping sauce of maple syrup and Tabasco. Great desserts too. The service was spot on and the manager, Richard, checked on us twice to make sure everything was to order and tasty. Easy to get to, fast, polite, and knowledgeable service from a great wait staff. Worth the trip off the Interstate if you're traveling. read more

The food is always great here I would recommend getting the chicken and waffles you can't go wrong with it.

The Airbnb I was staying with recommended Metro Diner so I came in for breakfast early on a Sunday. It wasn't that busy because it was about 8am. I was seated immediately and my server was very nice. She was attentive, but didn't hover. I ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, toast, hashbrowns, and bacon. It ended up being about $12 which I think is pretty reasonable for a full belly. I also got a togo soda before I left which made me happy. Everything was really good. The pancakes for me were good, but not amazing. I saw lots of different french toast, waffle, pancake options after I foolishly ordered, but maybe next time i'm in Gainesville I will be more adventurous! Solid breakfast food, great service, good price, and a big parking lots. There is also outdoor seating too! read more

Be prepared to wait, but the food here is pretty good. We've had good service every time we've gone there and have enjoyed all the things we tried. The menu options should be enough to fit anybody's taste. read more

Came here for brunch after Christmas and this place is packed! We were seated in less than 10 mins though so we were pleased considering how busy this place is. We were seated in a booth which had a good amount of space considering how busy this restaurant is. The waitress was very helpful and flexible with the options. However she was ultra busy so missed on some areas to service such as filling waters an cleaning more frequently the tables. The food was all made to order and made well for the most part. I had the veggie omelet with egg whites and enjoyed every bit even though I couldn't finish it. The hash browns were also great and crunchy with just enough salt. The home fries were too dry for my liking and not crunchy so I didn't care for that. The stack of pancakes is also delicious but again sooo much food so come hungry!! Bottom line...great place for brunch at a very reasonable price. The service and ambience are ok but the food is great! Food - 4/5 for the value and taste. The home fries could be improved but everything else was delicious Service - 3/5 - good service but nothing notable Ambience- 4/5 nice clean ambience but very plain Location- 4/5 close to the university of Florida so good place if you are visiting the school or the swamp read more

The prices were great and so were the portions. I've been here multiple times and have been satisfied with each new dish I try every time. Although the restaurant is always busy, the service is always really great and they make sure to bring your food out within an appreciable amount of time. This place offers greats food without breaking the bank. One of my top casual brunch places in Gainesville for sure! read more

Super good breakfast here. Great service too. The hash browns were excellent, so were the blueberry pancakes. Would go here again any time.

Everything was excellent! We had takeout dinner tonight and everything was delicious. Bacon mushroom swiss burger was cooked exactly as ordered, extremely juicy and 3 pieces of bacon! Green beans and broccoli were as fresh and perfectly cooked as could be. Greek salad was huge and delicious. If we lived in Gainesville this would be a staple for us. read more

Alex and Everything was Wicked Awesome We had the Steak and Egg Bowl and the Chicken and Waffles Pure Excellence

Favorite breakfast place in town by far. Service is amazing, they seem to all work together very well. Favorite hangover breakfast place.

We tried this diner because of its rating on Yelp. It was as expected. Had sandwiches for lunch. Not only good but helpings are Large. Couldn't eat it all. Casual dress. Is a local diner and can tell by the different types of people there. Would go there again. Can have breakfast for lunch if want also which I like. read more

Absolutely loved the breakfast options. Plan to go back soon and try some of the other menu items. Staff was very helpful and good at their jobs. Best of all, the outside seating is dog friendly, and they promptly brought my pup some water. Will definitely return. read more

For long time customers, the changes made over the last 10 years unfortunately have resulted in less quality home style food. Now it's more of a chain diner with a limited menu and none of the favorites from the original Jacksonville diner. A real shame. read more

Love, love, love their chicken and waffles! Crispy chicken, good waffles with strawberries if you like. Trouble is, it's SUPER noisy. Close to UF, so it's a popular spot which means sometimes you have to wait for a table. read more

I have been to Metro Diner several times and have never been disappointed. The Ruben, corned beef and eggs, and even the avocado toast are fantastic. Service is friendly and efficient and the prices are great! This is not your Dad's greasy spoon. It is a 21st Century evolution of a diner. I am on my way back there now! read more

What can I say, this place has good food, good service and great staff. It's no wonder why this place is always packed. Even though my family and I went during the busiest time, 10am on a Sunday and it was Father's Day, we were seated within 15 min and had a wonderful meal with good service. Some of my fav things were the has browns which were browned nicely and the pancake. Overall had a yummy meal and would definitely recommend to anyone. read more

There are few times I can get my husband to try the unknown and this was one of those times, the burst of flavors that tickled my taste buds exploded in my mouth. Not to mention the delicious mimosa I decided to try on my first visit. Metro Diner will definitely be one of my go to restaurants when I'm in GTown!! read more

These are all fake photos. Idk about you but still cold canned vegetables... maybe they got it, but I felt like it was on a verge of a kitchen nightmare. They have a big menu and that's the first sign of bad quality control. I would change this review if I have a different experience but after that day I probably won't go back there. Sorry. read more

We wanted comfort food and this is the place to go. It's not the cleanest place but to their defense we came in 20 minutes before closing. I'm not really there for the furniture either. If your looking for a snobby kinda eatery... it ain't it! Even though we came in so close to closing time, we were treated as if we had all night to order and eat. The staff was exstreamly kind. We had a Chicken pot pie which was fantastic. I prefer a puff pastry on top of a chicken pot pie, this came with a toasted thin biscuit crust on top which was wonderful. I just prefer a pastry. I'm not knocking this dish, it was full of flavor, I would definitely order it again. Everyone had to sample the crust (more then once). It was delicious. We also had Shepherds pie, this was just as good, it's a beef base with lots of vegetables and meat poured over mashed potatoes and then cheese over the top, Yummmm, It's really good. And the 3rd dish was chicken and waffles. Oh my gosh so delicious. This is one of my favorite comfort foods and everyplace I've been lately serves the tenders with it, nope not here, it's the real thing and a lot of it. The waffle was tasty and the chicken crispy. They also have a gift card special. Buy 50.00 and get a 10.00 gift card for yourself. It's a no brainer. I'm going to eat here again so it's crazy not to buy into this. We will most definitely be back... so many delicious things to try... read more

What a disappointment?! 43td street diner. Way better for similar food. Seemed rushed, cold and stale.

Gainesville doesn't always have the weather I associate with a diner, but sometimes I want a diner. A nonstop cup of coffee, the clatter of the kitchen, and a menu that goes from pancakes to Greek salad. This is it. They also have chicken and waffles, because it's both regionally appropriate, and caters to hipster thoughts about regionally appropriate. It's massive. I can't give it 5 stars because I'm comparing it to amazing places with half sours on the table (NY and Berkeley), or staffed by old Italians who chased me out for loitering (NJ). read more

We love the Metro Diner and as we are 6 month residents of Gainesville, we go there often to make the most of our time in FL. We've always had great food and service which keeps us coming back. My only complaints from yesterday (and previous times) are: very slippery floors and it's usually quite cold in the dining room. We shouldn't have to wear jackets to feel comfortable indoors. The slippery floors are a hazard especially to older patrons. Yesterday, looking at the walls right next to our table and in the bathroom, they are dusty and dirty. I realize that we don't eat off the walls but it gave the feeling of "not so clean", especially when things are supposed to be extra clean for COVID reasons. The floors in the ladies bathroom could use a good scrub too, especially in the corners. So for the food and service, it's always 5 stars--but for cleanliness, I was very disappointed and I would give that 3 stars. PS. When is the breakfast pizza coming back?? read more

Only ever tried their famous Chicken & Waffles! It comes with strawberry butter and a sweet spicy syrup (pretty much just maple syrup + hot sauce which they make right in front of you). The portions are large but it is a bit pricey! read more

The fried chicken was seasoned beautifully! I stopped here on the way to Disney World from Detroit and I'm glad I did. I ordered the fried chicken and waffles, croissant French toast and a side of hash browns. The chicken was the best chicken I've ever had in my life. That's a strong statement because I grew up eating fried chicken all of my life. The chicken was juicy, tender, seasoned and crispy. It was a lot of chicken! A half of a chicken to be exact and 4 waffles. My fiancé and I shared it. The croissant French toast was buttery and delicious. I highly recommend getting the chicken and waffles, they were heavenly. read more
