A morning appointment at a doctor in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake created the need for lunch, which I normally skip. We had previously tried two different eateries after morning appointments. Both spots were crossed off my list for repeat visits. The choices remaining were recommendations from a good friend who lives in the Grassfield area or a Yelp search for nearby places with good ratings. I chose Yelp. Metro Diner was close and on the way home. The location is a small strip center facing Volvo Parkway. Because there's no curb cut from the south, enter by a side street that loops behind the 7-Eleven to Volvo Commons. The eatery serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu included an extensive breakfast/brunch menu. Dinner items also were plentiful. But the number of true lunch selections was limited. I ended up ordering the Fish & Chips from the dinner menu, substituting green beans for the fries. Coleslaw also came with the dish. I was served 2 large pieces of fish, enough for two meals. They were good as were the green beans. The coleslaw was excellent & exactly to my taste. It's really hard to find restaurants that serve coleslaw the way I prefer. My friend had pancakes & bacon, which she proclaimed to be good. I loved the ease of paying by credit card with a small terminal the server brought to the table, The spot appeared to be popular, especially at the time we visited. Metro Diner will go on my list of approved "after doctor" eateries.

Stopped in after Dr. appointment since it's right on the way home and revues looked fairly good so we thought we would give it a try. We were greeted upon entering and seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and took our drink orders and left us to look over the menu. Noise level was a bit high and made it difficult to carry on a conversation and even hear our waitress. I was in the mood for breakfast still and ordered a short stack of pancakes and a side of bacon. Of course I had to have coffee. Everything was good and our waitress brought out a container of warm maple syrup for my pancakes.she was also very good about checking with me for coffee refills. My friend ordered Fish and Chips. Her meal came with coleslaw and French fries but she substituted green beans for the fries. Her meal was very good and the two pieces of fish were very large. After eating one piece and the sides, a box was requested to bring the other piece of fish home. We will probably return when in the area again but we both agree it will more than likely be when we are both in the mood for breakfast.

I visited Metro Diner located in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake recently on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a typical diner with a mixture of booths and table seating. They were busy and had a few customers waiting to be seated but since I was solo dining I was seated right away. I found the waitstaff to be very friendly and attentive, however my meal did not meet my expectations and left me feeling disappointed based on reviews I read. I ordered the Bissell Breakfast, which included scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, home fries, croissant French toast, and a side of fruit. There was a bit of a wait for my order, so I was disappointed when the food was not hot when it arrived. When ordering I specifically asked if the eggs were fresh-cracked and was told they were; however, the texture and taste suggested liquid eggs. Additionally, the home fries lacked any seasoning or salt, making them quite flavorless. Finally, although the waitress highly recommended the croissant French toast, it was only dipped in batter on one side, which was disappointing. After sharing my experience with a friend she suggested that I return to try the chicken and waffles, I am hesitant to make the drive back to Chesapeake given this experience. If you are in the area, please stop by and try the chicken and waffles and let me know if it is worth a return visit.

Came for lunch after church with my husband and our friends. We got there early and were able to get on the waitlist while we waited for our friends. 20minute wait on Sunday afternoon isn't bad. It was my husband's first time here and I had only been once several years ago. There were so many options it was hard to choose. I decided on the chicken tenders with cheese fries and broccoli. My husband was going to get the fried chicken meal but copied me and got the chicken tenders too lol. Our friends got the avocado breakfast sandwich with fruit, which was one item I was considering lol. Our other friend got the fried chicken Benedict. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The chicken tenders were seasoned well and the broccoli was cooked perfectly. Definitely a great spot for breakfast or lunch!!

If you're in Chesapeake and craving a hearty breakfast or some comfort food, you should give Metro Diner a try. The staff is friendly and the service felt relaxed but attentive. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was and it came out pretty quick. Everything tasted freshly made and cooked with care. My favorite are the pancakes and coffee. Ambiance is a typical diner set up with booths and tables for larger groups.

It took 7 minutes from the time we sat down to when we saw our server. The manager did come over during that time to explain that the servers were tied up with other tables. At that point I counted 4 servers and 5 other tables. After we ordered the food took another 20 minutes to arrive. If I was the server, I would not have served the meatloaf. My meatloaf was burnt (see photo). The mashed potatoes were lukewarm. The green beans were the best part of the meal. The green beans were cooked perfectly. Halfway through our meal the server appeared and asked if we wanted dessert. It doesn't look like a typical diner and there is minimal ambiance.

This was good,wasn't special. Service was good I got my refills without asking and that's usually my biggest problem with service when I go eat. I have no complaints. Just wasn't really anything great but it was definitely good. Ehh actually the sever was definitely a great server.

Came here once to pick up food and another time, I ordered delivery through their Olo service. The first time, I got the steak tips with green beans and mashed potatoes. First thing I noticed was the dish size was tiny and the weight was light. The steak tips were overcooked and the meal barely satisfied my hunger. The next time, I ordered delivery due to heavy rain and not feeling like picking up the food myself. I ordered the chicken tender plate with onion rings, side salad, and a biscuit. The meal took a long time to arrive 1hr 20 minutes after ordering but that may have been due to weather and traffic. The food was highly disappointing. The chicken tenders were small, didn't come with any type of sauce (lucky I had Chick-Fil-A sauce on hand), the onion rings were ok, and the biscuit was also okay but a little dry. I wasn't that satisfied with either of my meals and I honestly only ordered the second time because they gave me a 50% off entree and I was hoping the next meal would be better as Metro diner does get many good reviews but that may just be for their dine in service. I will probably not be back to this location or any other ones as there are too many much better dining experiences in the area. Overall, I was just pretty disappointed with striking out at Metro Diner.

We wanted some late breakfast so we stopped in for a bite at the metro diner. The service was great. We were seated immediately and the waitress was super sweet and quick. I ordered the huevos rancheros because it's my favorite thing. Their take on it is a bit different with what I'm used to. They fry the tortilla and then top it with the toppings. I wish there was more black beans because that's really my favorite part of huevos rancheros. There were like 5 beans on there LOL. The crispy jalapeños were REALLY good with it though. I'll still rate it high because it was pretty tasty.

Can't even tell you how much we loved it here. We decided to do a Christmas Eve breakfast here anna we LOVED it! The waitstaff was exceptional, very welcoming. The food...oh my God! The waffles were so fluffy. And HALF A CHICKEN with those waffles!? I could spend an hour taking about the strawberry butter. We also had the chicken eggs benedict, which was awesome! The cinnamon bun pancakes with candied pecans was to die for. Thankfully we have leftovers! This place is exceptional! My new go-to!

We had a party of Seven, virtually everyone at the table ordered the Chicken & Waffles. The 1" thick Waffle is served with a strawberry butter, I personally would prefer a cinnamon or apple butter , accompanied by 1/2 Chicken Fried to perfection served with a side of Nashville Sauce . Nashville sauce, Im told is Heat hotsauce and syrup mixed together for lip smacking toe tapping enjoyment!!! Everyone at the table attacked this Chicken and left a carcass trail that should serve as a compliment to the chefs in the kitchen. I ordered the Spicy Honey Chicken on a biscuit with a fruit cup on the side. The chicken biscuit was fire, the fruit was fired, I sent that back in exchange for grits. Unfortunately the grits didn't fare well for me either, as they were luke warm and a little loose. Our serve Jaxson, was very attentive and helpful, I'm sure we caused him to walk a mile, but he did it with a smile. The food was Reasonably priced, I'm going to try the Chicken and Waffles next time as that seemed to be the favorite throughout the restaurant!!!

The first time we went we had breakfast which was okay, but the coffee was bad and the service was horrible. I wanted to try the chicken but I wasn't going to sit in the restaurant. I ordered a WHOLE chicken as the menu offer a "half chicken with each meal." It's a lie, you only get two pieces so when I got my "WHOLE CHICKEN" it was only 4 pieces for $12. That's a $24 dollar chicken if we're to actually get a "WHOLE CHICKEN." So I talked with the manager who was rude and said "their whole chicken" is only 4 pieces. The chicken was horrible, it had enough salt for a bucket of chicken. They have a lot of waiters whom I'm sure post great things, but I will NEVER go to this place again and it's within walking distance. read more

First time dining in the restaurant & it was surprisingly busy on A Wednesday. Soon as I walked in I was greeted & was seated immediately. Our waitress seemed really busy but she was still able to make sure we were good & if we needed anything. I started off with a mimosa & they were only $2.99?! Cant beat price & they were delicious. Then I ordered the Shrimp & Grits & OMGGG I've never had Shrimp & grits like this before. They somehow made the grits into a pattie and I'm assuming fried it . It comes with 2 large square patties & plenty of shrimp ! Probably one of the best ones I've had, full of flavor , Not spicy at all so I added some hot sauce bc I like my shrimp & grits spicy. My friend ordered the steak bowl, I took one bite of the steak & it was so juicy & cooked perfectly, not dry at all. My daughter ordered the kids waffles & she loved them, we had to order her another one lol. Huge fan of this place. We have been to Metro twice. Both times we had good tasting ordinary food served by a friendly staff. The menu is rather uninspired but cooked well. Metro has very positive vibes overall. Not very comfortable seating. Food tastes like you want it to. I wish it were more "dinery". Nothing wrong with the place but somehow it leaves you not disappointed but not quite satisfied either. The wait staff are particularly nice and readily offer substitutes on the menu. We would definitely return. Wish they would "diner" up the menu or just be the Metro Eatery. read more

Hubby and I came here on a Tuesday morning. They were pretty busy but we found a table and sat down. We were greeted immediately and asked for our drink orders. Our server was very kind and helpful. I chose their Crabcake Benedict with eggs scrambled instead of poached. Hubby ordered the San Francisco Benedict which had Canadian ham, tomato, & avocado on the English muffin. Our order came pretty quickly and looked beautiful. My Crabcake was delicious with little filler. The hash browns were crispy. Everything was great! Service was prompt. Food was fast and yummy. Prices were reasonable. Restaurant was clean and visually appealing. There was plenty of parking in this restaurant shopping center. I will definitely be coming back! read more

The service was outstanding. Everyone was polite and engaging, i.e. I was asked if I had been helped several times after I checked in and was standing waiting for a table--everyone seemed to work as a supportive team. I was so excited to see Shrimp & Grits on the menu and on a previous Yelp review; every place you have them they are prepared differently and it's fun to do comparisons. By far, this was the second worst one I've had though, I was very disappointed. The picture someone else posted is accurate, the grits were tender and moist, but I believe had been breaded in some fashion and maybe lightly fried (which was okay, I suppose) and then sitting in a moat of Béchamel sauce. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, but the sauce ws just overwhelming and distracting. I would definitely return to this diner and try other dishes, but definitely cannot recommend the Shrimp & Grits--they truly were a disappointment. read more

Metro Diner is ok for breakfast, but leave it there. I tried a dinner meal a few months back and was sadly disappointed. Last night I decided to give them another chance, got the turkey dinner. Now I am a girl who likes a lot of salt on her food, but this was so ridiculous I could not eat it. I ended up feeding it to the dog. The gravy was smothered on everything, and the gravy was extremely super salty. The stuffing that I could get from underneath that had no gravy on it was also super salty. The pumpkin bread pudding was okay, but a little dry. The macaroni and cheese was the opposite of the rest of my meal, no flavor or salt at all. The cranberry sauce was from a can, which I would expect, but it was really oddly dry. read more

Not like a Diner in Philly or Jersey but the food is great. I'm partial to the sausage, biscuits & gravy. Find it great earlier in the day vs later afternoon. To be honest this is the only item I've had oh and a what I'll call an egg platter that comes with plenty of food. In fact every dish coming out of the kitchen has large portions. Fairly quick service from order to table. Have only had one server that seemed out of touch with wanting to be serving us. We didn't say anything, we brushed it off as maybe she was having a bad day or patron. They do get bullied a lot. So I believe this is the only Metro in this area. I would recommend giving it a try read more

Would've given 5 stars but our 1st Benedict's came out with over cooked eggs and broken hollandaise sauce. Jenn was a fantastic server and got it corrected fast. My husband got the crab bene and he said it was chocked full of crab and was seasoned perfectly. Hashbrowns were crispy and delicious. I had the San Francisco bene, the avocado and tomatoes were perfect and thick slices of Canadian bacon . I would only eat half it was so filling. We will back to try other menu items as there are alot of yummy choices. read more

Looking for a new place for lunch/brunch after church today for me and my girls. Heard about this place from someone at work and thought I'd give it a try. It was busy from the minute we entered with several parties waiting. The hostess assured us the wait wouldn't be that long though. And it wasn't that bad, maybe 15 minutes. I had the avocado wrap with onion rings and my older daughter had the mikes club sandwich with fries. The little girls wanted breakfast so they each opted for a waffle. My wrap was tasty and filling with plenty of avo, black beans, and vegetables. The onion rings were ok. Clearly the frozen kind you re-heat in the fryer versus the house made ones that I really like. Daughter said her sandwich was good and it looked filling. The little girls waffles were a little naked looking. Just a waffle on a plate. They both got fresh fruit as a side and the fruit came in a separate bowl so maybe that's why the little waffle on a plate looked kind of bare and minimal. Service was good. Except the server brought out check within minutes of our first bites. I looked at my daughter and said sadly "she didn't even ask if we wanted dessert?" And I love me some good diner desserts. The key lime pie on the chalkboard was already calling softly to me. I guess I could have asked for the dessert to be added on but then the server made me feel a little rushed so I just didn't worry about it. I realize they are busy and want to turn the tables but I also like to enjoy my food and my family's company and be asked "would you like anything else?" Before I'm brought my check. I would come back to give it another try. The prices were reasonable. read more

Went this morning and the wait was pretty long. Staff was friendly and inviting! Ordered the chicken and waffles... I shocked by the size of the order... pretty large!! Chicken breast, chicken wing, thigh, and drumstick plus the waffle!!! The chicken was greasy and not as crisp as I like and kinda salty. I'm am not on here to bash the food... the waffle was great!!! Our server Faith was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back but I will leave the chicken and waffles alone. My friend had the Apple Yo Hala and enjoyed it. read more

My first time here. Mama Gwen and I got the special (Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Veggies) and the Queen got the Fish & Chips. The service was fast although our server seemed a little inexperienced. The Salisbury steak was FANTASTIC! The mashed potatoes were creamy and the grilled veggies were done... not half-raw. The fish was really good. I get it next time if this special wasn't available. All the food was blistering hot! We got here early but by the time we were done, there were 15 people waiting for seats. That has to tell you something. Can't wait to come back! read more

Everything was great but just a little salty. The portions are huge! You could definitely share one dish with someone else. The only thing I wouldn't get again was the beef tenderloin tips. The mushroom Swiss burger was average but the strawberry butter that came with the chicken waffles were delicious as well as the MonteCristo! I've come to Metro Diner several times. This location and the one in Suffolk. I had a great experience at both. The food was delicious and the customer is great as well. Hmmm... Where to start... I will roll with, just not impressed with the hype that is being given as "hot & new"... Okay, they are new thus the rating but I have to say the service was awesome which keeps them above a 1-star rating... 1. The floor was slippery, I was wearing standard sketches sport/walking shoes... Three separate times my shoes slid as I tried to get up or sit or even when I first walked in... 2. My order was sitting in the pass for almost 10min waiting for my wife's order... 3. I ordered the shrimp and grits, a bit skeptical as the price was 16.99 for the plate but a great plate to judge... I will start by saying I love metro diner BUT this visit was disappointing! I ordered the chicken parmigiana sandwich was expecting a saucy sandwich and Lean meant. DID NOT HAPPEN. The bread was Texas toast a bit much for me but I just moved the first layer and figured it would be fine. Very good diner. There was a wait but not long at all. Service was excellent and so was the food. This is not a large place however it works very well. The waiter was very informative when we had questions. I am very picky about the way I like my grits so I never order them when I am out. My husband ordered them and said babe you gotta try these grits. All I have to say is "LOVED IT!!" It can be a little bit noisy but every plate that came past our table looked and smelled wonderful! They say first impressions mean everything. If that is the case, then I'm not at all impressed with my first experience at Metro Diner in Chesapeake, Virginia. This past Tuesday I had 2 appointments with about an hour and a 1/2 in between. It was about 10 AM and I wasn't Chesapeake and I looked online for nearby places to eat. I came across the Metro Diner and decided to give it a shot. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and as I was shown to my table, I was advised that they were a bit short staff and that service might take a little longer than expected. I said that should be fine since I had more than an hour to eat before I had to head to my 2nd appointment. I was seated at a table among other diners at nearby booths and tables. I sat there for a minimum of 15 minutes and nobody working there even acknowledged my existence. No one said hello, no one said that they would be with me shortly, no one introduced themselves as my server and at least took my drink order. I decided to leave because I still needed to grab something to eat somewhere before my next appointment. On my way out I told the woman who seated me that I was leaving and why and she didn't really seem to care. She basically just told me to have a nice day. I asked her who the manager was and a woman whose name I was told is Tina overhbird what I was saying and she asked if I would be willing to stay and let them take care of me. A nearby server overheard and asked me where I had been seated and I pointed to the table. He was one of several workers who had walked past me quite a few times but never acknowledged my being there. He even said, "Oh I never saw you sitting there." Yeah, I know... They sat me back down and everything was fine as far as service was concerned. I was really hoping to get lunch while I was there because I'm not a big breakfast food person but because nobody spoke to me when I first got there, I never had a chance to ask whether a lunch menu was available because all they gave me was the breakfast menu. When I sat back down I did ask Mike, my server, if lunch and dinner were available and I was told yes, but now I was in a bit more of a rush And really didn't have time to sit and look at a brand new menu and decide on something else. I chose the biscuits and gravy with a side of link sausage. I received my food and drink promptly but my food was not heated through evenly. I explained to my server that sometimes I would take a bite and it was nice and hot but other bites were barely warm at all. He thought that was kind of strange but he didn't offer any resolution such as heating my plate up or having my food remade. I ended up only eating about half of my food before paying my bill and leaving. I effectively gave Metro Diner 2 separate chances during my 1st visit, and neither time was was impressive enough to make me want to go back. Going forward, I will cross Metro Diner off my list and make sure I have another restaurant picked out for breakfast the next time I'm in Chesapeake for an appointment. read more

My parents and I ate at the bar. All the food was delicious, the portions are huge and the wait staff is friendly! For a new restaurant I was very impressed! The kitchen staff was awesome, the back of the house really knows what they are doing!!! The bar is open to the kitchen, they showed us what they were making and were super personable. I ordered the Texas Burger with fries and my wife ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger. Both orders were delivered with efficient speed and both the fries and the burgers were piping hot upon arrival! My Texas Burger was absolutely delicious and I went through that thing like a hot knife through butter! My wife and I both agreed we had not had burgers this good in quite some time! It's in the same group of buildings such as Michael's (around the corner). My visit here was on October 27, 2025. The outside view of the business is simple, but effective. They have a specials chalkboard next to the entrance. Parking wasn't an issue on this visit, but I'm sure it can fill up at busier times. My mom and I were both in the area as she wanted to go to the Michael's store here. When we came inside, it wasn't busy, as it was around 3:30 pm when we got here. We were greeted by the one who would be our server for this visit. He gave us menus to look at and asked us for our drink orders. I generally stick with water with lemon, which I did here. We were there during the time where it was still the lunch menu (though for us, it was more like dinner for us that day). When he came back with the drinks, he asked if we were ready to order, but we weren't just yet. He also asked if we had any questions about the menu and options and gave us more time to mull over the menu. When he came back, we weren't completely ready, but asked a question about the specials of the day. After that, we knew what we would get and placed our food order. My mom ordered the Meatloaf Lunch Special with mashed potatoes and spinach. I went with the Meatball Sub Lunch Special with mashed potatoes, though I don't normally do potatoes that often. After about ten minutes or so, the food came to the table. The food looked really good, and it was hot too. The bread for the Meatball Sub was very soft and easy to eat. The meatballs were huge and made for a worthy meal. The mashed potatoes with gravy was really good and fulfilling too. My mom loved the meatloaf, and their meatloaf doesn't have ketchup on it like some other places do. She loved the meatloaf, spinach, and mashed potatoes too. After we were done, he asked if we wanted any desserts. We both declined as I normally don't do them anymore. Overall, we both had an excellent experience here. The food and service were on point. The food I had that day did spike my blood sugars, but I expected that with bread and mashed potatoes. I don't make a habit of that though. They are a great local business. There are lots of food options to choose from. If you are looking for a place to eat while in this part of Chesapeake, this place is worth coming to.

UNORGANIZED MESS! Placed a large take out order for dinner (family of 5) and was quoted a 15 minute pick-up time. Once arrived to pick up it became obvious there are issues with the efficiency of how this restaurant is running. 35 minutes after placing the order we were walking out with it. Before doing so, we had to ask if items that were up on the warmer were ours also and of course they were. Staff didn't seem to care about the wait time and just looked at us when we complained (this is where training employees in being apologetic and sincere would serve a business well). Once we arrived home, the entrees that were in the bottom of the bag were cold and soggy- indicating that they had been made at the beginning (a half hour earlier) and the ones on top were hot and fresh. Taste was delicious on the fresh entrees and unfortunately the cold/soggy ones were discarded as they were a wet mess. Definitely would NOT recommend this restaurant for take-out. And based on what was observed during our lengthy wait, not sure I'd recommend a dine-in experience either. read more

Recently visited Metro Diner in Chesapeake and was very impressed by the cozy, inviting atmosphere as well as the prompt and friendly service. The Poutine was a great starter. The Roasted Turkey Plate was a heartwarming tribute to a classic Thanksgiving meal. El Chorizo Burger was a delightful fusion of flavors. The Angus beef patty, blended with crumbled chorizo sausage, was juicy and packed with a flavorful punch. Topped with onions, peppers, and a zesty chipotle ranch, every bite was a burst of deliciousness. The fresh lettuce and tomato added a refreshing crunch, and I had them add some jalapenos for a little extra kick. Had the Caesar Salad as the side with the burger, fresh and crisp, with crunchy croutons and a creamy, tangy Caesar dressing that tied everything together perfectly. Every dish was prepared with care and attention to detail, making for an outstanding dining experience. We can't wait to return and try more of their amazing offerings. Highly recommended! read more

I've came here every Saturday for the past 3 months. I sit at the 7 seat "bar" which is first come first serve right in front of the kitchen line. The communication between all of them on the line is amazing. The man that runs the window is always so calm and collected during the busiest of times. Leah is great too. Always so sweet and gets you everything you need right away. It's great to watch this place work. Guy who looks like a young nick cannon always joking everybody getting them to smile in the mix of things. This is the absolute best breakfast place you can out in chesapeake. read more

Went looking around for a breakfast place this morning, so went to Ihop and Egg Bistro. Both places were slammed packed, so ventured a little further and found this place. OH MY WORD!!!! This place is amazing!!!! Food was great customer service was great and sitting at the counter watching the cooks and hearing their communication was extremely impressive. Definitely one of my new favorite spots. The waffle was awesome!!! All the fruit was so fresh and amazing. The Hot chocolate... I cant rave enough about it!!!! They have a repeat customer with me. read more

I am on my fourth visit and each time is better than the last. Since I tend to be a creature of habit, I always ask for Tina because her customer service and overall attentiveness is second to none. I recommend the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles. read more

Metro Dinner by far is the best place to eat. Their soup of the day is absolutely good and the a mouth of food they serve is enough for 2. The Waffle is the best waffle we ever had. There service is very fast. read more
