You must read this! We were in route to our new city as state. We had been emailing and texting their representative for a while. We had gave him dimensions of two storage units one semi full and the other not so full. We even sent him pictures. He asked what we had I there I told him everything from a one bed room apartment. So he mentioned somethings and I said a few more that were supposed to be written for insurance purposes. When they sent me the form for me to sign like I said I was in route to my new place. They worded things so it seemed that it was for everything as we verbally told the rep. He quoted us $2144. He said that by law he had to collect 10% down even tho he was asking for more than half down. I wanted to pay it all since he was asking for half, he said he could not. He told me somethings that I forgot and when we tried to reach him he would not reply even sent a text that there was no such person and that it was a wrong number. I should have known by then I was ripped off! It's all how they word it that had me thinking it was for all my belongings not just the few key things we talked about. I knew I should had gone with Mission Transport, they were more honest and their price was $4,100 something with only $100 as a deposit. I thought I was getting the deal instead I lost a little over a thousand dollars. Do not use this company! We used them for a cross country move. We were moving our items from a home into a storage unit for 3 months. First of all they misjudged the amount of items we had and brought a truck that was already 1/4 full, so they had to spend extra time tetrising our items to the top of the truck just to make it fit. When we took our items our of storage we realized that the movers step on my boxes( i have pictures of boot marks on my smashed boxes), stack furniture up against each other without padding, lay a piano face down on a damp surface, not paper pack items according to the contract, and knowingly damage my furniture. I paid for paper packing in the storage unit so i would know it would be covered and safe in the unit for serveral months. They did not do this with at least 60 percent of our furniture. There were glass cabinets without padding rubbing up against other shelves. All of my dining room chairs were stacked haphazardly on top of each other with nothing covering them. My piano was layed keys side down with only a furni pad around it and about 4 layers of furniture stacked on top of it. There were holes in my boxes and scratches on pretty much everything i own- beds, chairs , cabinets, etc. My newborn had two new pieces of furniture like 3-4 months old from pottery barn that were a gift. They were white, shelves and a rotating standing shelf. The rotating shelf was cracked and had no padding on it. The wall shelves were thrown on top of my dining room chair legs and had no padding. Both are now yellowed from having no paper padding to cover them from moisture. I filled out all the proper insurance paperwork, and after 30 days they are offering to send out a furniture repair person. When asked about other compensation, such as the paper padding I paid for that wasn't used, and the negligence of the movers they are saying they are not liable as of the date it was left in the storage unit because we signed for its arrival. Even though I confirmed with our rep that our insurance would apply until another company or person touched the furniture and i sent them dozens of photos of the damage before anyone else touched it in the storage unit. It is very sad and nothing someone should have to deal with when moving across country (especially with 2 small children) is one of the harder things I've ever done. They were also under the name Mayflower, so I'm not sure which name to watch out for. Just be careful. read more

This review is overdue but moving halfway across the country keeps you tied up for a while. I started researching moving companies online in early 2021 for a planned move from L.A. to The Ozarks. What an eye opener. After reading hundreds of horror stories, I concluded that the moving industry is rotten to the core. It is corrupt and much of it is actually organized criminal enterprise. I learned everything customers did wrong and how they suffered for it. When choosing a business to hire, I always search out and study reviews, independent ones, not from the company's own websites. I came across Merit Moving Systems and they had an exceptionally good reputation in their customer reviews. I called them and set up a video walk-through, then accepted their bid. I did all my own packing (153 boxes). My move got postponed through no fault of my own, but it was no problem for them. Fast forward months, to move day, December 29th. The crew/truck were right on time. The four guys did a fantastic job and were in and out in a couple hours. I did make it easier for them as I had stacked and labeled all my boxes in the garage. At our new place in Missouri, they missed the delivery window by four days but once somebody explained the situation to me over the phone, it was all good. The crew showed up for the delivery right when they said they would. They did an awesome job, even though it was snowing the whole time. Later we got a refund for both the late date and the weight over-estimation. We cannot overstate what an excellent job everybody at Merit Moving Systems did for us. All our stuff: 153 cartons plus furniture, showed up safe and sound. We would definitely recommend them and would hire again. read more

Great service. We are downsizing from a small commercial office, to a VERY small commercial office across town. Kyle answered questions by phone right up front, gave us an approximate but realistic estimate by phone, and took an order when we were ready. Due to some very finicky rules with the new landlord, our mover would be required to provide VERY specific insurance info. Kyle took care of that with ease. The "muscle" team, led by Jesse, arrived on the correct date, about 5 minutes early. Jesse took about 5 minutes to walk through the office, making note of which pieces would go, then went down to get his men. He brought up two more men and some furniture dollies. They were in and out in about 10 or 15 minutes. At the destination, they had everything in place without incident, and billed us for FEWER hours than the estimate. I had to move from California to Florida in November of 2013. This was a big move for me. I have a bad back so I had to be careful with lifting and such, so I was looking for a full service company. After getting quotes from multiple movers, I decided on Merit, who is a subcontractor for United. I worked with John Horist for the entire move. He was a pleasure to deal with and one of the most professional people I've ever worked with. He came by my place, made a complete inventory and gave me a quote for everything on the spot. My move included packing up everything, putting it on the truck, moving it across country, unpacking all my items and, using another company, putting everything back. All of this was handled through John, making it very simple for me. I asked for an additional service of putting the books and videos back on the shelves in roughly the order they were in the old apartment. John agreed and included that for only a small extra cost. Finally, I added a service to dissemble/reassemble my computers and TVs for a small extra fee. The price was better than most of the other quotes that I received. I was nervous on the day of the move, of course, but the packers came and were extremely professional. I have some very fragile items (glass figurines) and they were very careful to pack them so they would not be damaged. It took them most of the day but I was calmed by their professionalism and willingness to explain what they were doing every step of the way. The next day the moving van arrived exactly on time. I mean exactly, to within a minute. I was impressed. The movers got to work immediately and by mid day all of my stuff was on their truck. I signed the final documents and my part was done until I arrived in Florida. I could have purchased an additional service of moving my car for me, but I decided since I'd never driven across the United States I'd just drive it there myself. A friend came along (she flew home after) and it made for a very pleasant several day trip. I was surprised when the movers called me 3 days early saying they would be at my new place the next morning. I was already in Florida so that worked out great. They arrived to within five minutes of the time they said they would be there. The next two days were predictably hectic. The first day movers brought boxes and boxes of stuff up to my place. By late afternoon they were done and everything was in the new apartment. The next day they came back and unpacked, again arriving right on time. There were three crews for this: the person who reassembled my TVs and computers, the ladies from a service who put everything away, and the movers who unpacked it all. They worked together as a solid team and by the early evening my apartment looked great. The furniture was all exactly where Ii wanted it, the books and videos were on the shelves in more-or-less the correct order, all my stuff was neatly put away, the packing materials were all removed, the place was swept up and it all looked gorgeous. Best of all, there was no stress and no strain to my back. After the move I found a couple of minor things that were damaged (a couple of hundred dollars in value) and with one quick phone call and a form, I received a check so I could get them repaired. The move went perfect. The packing/unpacking went perfect. The communication was perfect. And even the minor damage was minimal and handled very professionally. We had a very positive experience with Merit Moving Systems/United Van lines for our cross country move from CA to NJ. This was especially highlighted after an exceptionally horrific experience with International Van Lines one year prior (do NOT use them!). Initial communication was easy, and after a detailed virtual walk through of our home in CA they were able to provide us an accurate cost estimate and clearly laid out details/expectations regarding the moving process (delivery time period, how items would be transported, etc). Pick up went smoothly without hiccups (we had admittedly pre-packed all items due to our prior poor experience with another group, so cannot comment on their full service option). Items were transported over approximately a 3 week time period and delivered on our expected day during the expected time window. We received updates prior to delivery to confirm dates/times. Unloading was efficient and organized, with all items accounted for. Thus far in our unpacking we have not found any broken or damaged items. The cost was a bit more than other companies, but given that there were zero issues, we felt it was worth it. We would absolutely use them again for another move. read more
