The service here is mixed. The order takers tend to be rude to indifferent. They may ignore u. As other reviewers have stated, the Pakistani/middle Easter lady who seems to be the owner is not that friendly as an order taker. However, the guys who make the sandwiches are friendly, obviously hard working, and more helpful. On one visit, one of them verbally took my order to get it started and then one of the ladies eventually came over and put it in the register later. The sandwiches are at least as good as Pot Belly and are better than Jimmy John's in terms of quantity and quality. On one visit I tried their Chicken Marsala. It liked like it was a frozen meal they microwaved, but it was pretty good, especially for a train station food court sandwich shop. Since food in the airport sux in Boston, I'd definitely recommend getting a sandwich here and take with to the airport for ur trip. Will definitely put up with the service to get the food here again when in town. Tip: There is a CVS nearby in the food court/station, getting drinks and chips from there rather than the Melting Sun is a better deal. read more

The workers are friendly, and they have my favorite commercial brand of coffee (Lavazza) but the food falls short in quality. I order the lox bagel which was a great size for the price paid, but would have fone with something smaller with higher quality. The salmon was the best part, and the capers were great. No sliced red onion for some reason - no biggie. But the cream cheese was very bland (almost like what you'd expect at Dollar Tree) and same for the bagels. My everything bagel was very doughy and could tell it's made for the masses. I'd rather have 2/3rds the size of what they gave but a crispier, flully bagel with a nice golden browning. Overall, good for a quick bite but unfortunately nothing special. read more

I like this joint. Staff is well mannered, customer service oriented, diligent, and friendly. The food is fresh. The flavored caramel coffee is delicious. The guy in front of me ordered a sub, paid for it, then heard an announcement that his train was boarding. He told the owner that he had to run, and he booked it. They had not stated making the sub, so the owner told the worker to stop making it. I naturally waited for them to cancel the transaction and refund his money but that never happened. So i asked if they will refund the guy's money, to which the kiosk lady smiled and shook her head "no". They i said, "why don't you make the sub anyways then, and i will give it to the homeless guy over there who is clearly hungry?" (He was digging through trash) the lady said no, and her worker/son told me that they will refund the money with a grin. I highly doubt they will refund the money though, since my first question was already whether they would refund it or not. I was in a time crunch and unfortunately had to order my sub anyways but i wish i hadnot. I recommend staying away from these greedy people read more

Melting Sun is doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing - knocking out decent, reasonably priced sandwiches (and Indian food!) for commuters and folks about to sit on the Amtrak for a while. Friendly and fast service, good value, would recommend. I opted for a sandwich and a veggie samosa. I say get a veggie samosa on the side regardless of what else you're getting! read more

Very choice choice in South Station. I did grab and go and ate on the train. I had the Chicken Special with Chicken Tikka Masala. It was a good "fast food" option. It came with a to go container of masala, another with rice. The special says salad but it was a small dab of salad packed in with the rice. I'd say two slices of green pepper, a tomato slice, 2 onion slices, and a bit of green salad. Although small, I enjoyed piling it in with the enormous helping of Chicken Tikka Masala and rice. I'd say enough for two. They packaged it nice, even saran wrapped the chicken container and double bagged the whole meal to prevent spills. Lots of napkins and a fork. With lots of food court options, give them a try. read more

I confess, I usually just get one of their big, silly muffins and a coffee before catching my train, but I always enjoy it - and the service is as fast as can be and friendly. (I'm a bit of a pain -- always want more almond milk in my coffee). These folks are great. South Station needed a place like this - with more options than the old Au Bon Pain. I have now had one Turkey sub and two veggie subs and they were all good to great. Turkey had a bit too much mayo. The bread tastes fresh. Veggies are clearly fresh. Turkey and cheeses were great. Next time I am going to order their Indian food, it smells wonderful. It looks homemade! read more

I had an otherwise odd experience this morning from a somewhat consistent place, but it happened to be my absolute pet peeve on top of a bad morning. Ever get to the front of a line, waiting to be next, only to be completely ignored by the person at the counter. I am usually a very understanding person, but for whatever reason that happened to me today. It seems as though she knew the people next to me, and simply decide to take their order before mine. Why have a line at all if you are going to not be true to it? I just wanted to start my order with a smile, instead I was skipped over completely. Maybe this is an overreaction, I can admit that, but every customer counts, and I can choose to spend my money on them, or elsewhere. Sadly, I now choose elsewhere, but I do wish them well. Maybe if they read this, they will not skip over the next person who gets up to the front of the line. #Consequences. read more

Was looking for something to eat in the Boston South station and came across this eatery and decided to give it a try. I saw they had a walnut cranberry chicken salad sub and decided that's what I was in the mood for. It was made with all white chicken and had the perfect ratio of walnut:cranberry:chicken. It was very well seasoned and had the perfect amount of Mayo. The roll was one of the softest and freshest I've had in a long while! Chose to have it with just lettuce but there's many options to dress it up with if you choose, but honestly the chicken salad didn't need much to accompany it and shined well on its own. So if you're waiting for your train and looking for a good sandwich (along with many other options --- including all day breakfast, assorted pastries, coffee and a selection of Indian dishes) give this place a try! Definitely brings more to the table than competitors across the way who charge the same for less options and smaller sizes. read more

I hate to leave negative reviews, but this was without a doubt some of the worst food I have ever eaten. I ordered a Power bowl -- it says it has egg, green peppers, black bean, and I ordered the chicken as the protein. Take some onion and green pepper, toss in a food processor so their a tiny mush. Eggs were something I'd never seen before -- spongy little cubes of egg white (yuck). Throw in cooked chicken breast, some shredded cheese on top and microwave into oblivion. So, the veggies are mushier than ever, and without flavor. No beans. The chicken is now hard, and throw a blob of salsa on top. There was absolutely no seasoning whatsoever -- a surprise for a place that offers Indian and Halal food -- that presumably have a lot of tasty spices. So, it's this literal hot mess with a pool of liquid from the microwaved veggies. The good news? I kept to my diet since I could only stomach eating half of it. Sorry, guys. I've seen other reviews that show you can do better, but this was terrible. read more

Great Subs, and, Huge delicious Muffins. CONSISTENTLY! We got 6 muffins and 2 subs on the way home. And, that is how much we love the food and the young vendor. He is always greeting us with an angelic smile, recognizing the repeat customers. Unlike many other sandwich stores in this busy trafficked areas, with lack of care, with sick additives, I don't get sick with whatever sub I order from Melting Sun. And, The sub is subtle taste with lots of LOVE, with its interesting combinations. Muffins are Fragrant, fresh, and, delicious from the start to finish. The wait time is adequate, faster than Subway, but, lots of "impatient" Passengers will show up last minute to piss themselves when they see that the customer ahead of him/her is served. It is all less than 4-5 min. It is Made-to-Order, remember! Even McDonald's takes about the same time or more to get your lame burger sets. Melting Sun's subs are delicious even when it is not hot any more. Take my word, it is worth waiting for a customer or two in front of you. Well this place is new to the South station eateries. I saw these huge cookies that were calling my name & had to get one. I can't remember the last time or ever paying over $3 for a damn cookie but it was so damn worth it, super delicious! One of the pitfalls of commuting home through South Station every day is being tempted to grab dinner on the way home from one of the many kiosks and restaurants that are scattered throughout the station. Today, in my never-ending quest to find a perfect Italian sub, I tried Melting Sun. It came on a pretty standard sub roll (I would call it "medium" sized) for a little over ten bucks. Wasn't going to come with a sauce or dressing, so I added O/V and S/P. It was fine. If I was dying for an Italian on the way home from work in the future, I wouldn't be mad at myself if I got one from here. But, its certainly nothing special. read more

The cashier was friendly and efficient, the sandwiches (I got the egg and cheese and the caprese/veggie) were both really good! The line was long, but they moved super fast, and we had ample time to catch our bus. Recommend this spot to eat out of all the others in the station. read more

At first, that seemed delicious, but once I tried it I realized it had been warmed to soften it since it was so hard and stale it was not edible. While in south station I wanted a somewhat healthy bite. Was told at the register to order by the number. Took a bit to find something close to what I wanted on the menu. I went back to the register and the time was 7:48. The woman walked by me 3 times. They were still making food. At 7:59 the guy comes to the speaker, says we are closed. All I wanted was a wheat wrap with lettuce pickles tomatoes onions cheese mustard. Or something close. No cooking or anything. All this food was still out. No posted times but I'm sure they could have crapped together veggies in a wrap in less than one minute. South station should make all venders be open as long as the station is open. Just like a mall. Side note these people need to think maybe this person had a bad day, which in fact I had been at mgh since 6:30am and just wanted a bite to eat. Thank you Annie's pretzels for providing me with a pretzel cup and a water. Best and only meal of my day. I won't forget that tomorrow when I'm back at south station. read more

Ordered an Acai Bowl, expecting Acai as that's what it says. There's no Acai. Don't order it if you want an Acai Bowl, go somewhere else. This is just a granola bowl with the word, Acai, slapped onto the menu to lure people in! TLDR: No Acai in Acai Bowl. That's how they make it. read more

Coffee was excellent and the service from the lady working in the morning was wonderful. She's very sweet. However, only reason I didn't give a 5 star is due to my breakfast sandwich having a good amount of eggshells in it. It was an obnoxious amount lol. Not sure how they missed it since it wasn't busy. I had been here on other occasions and enjoyed the spinach and ricotta savory pastry; this time I wanted something different. The sign for an açaí bowl caught my eye. It listed what would be added: sliced strawberries, blueberries, slivered almonds, chia seeds, oatmeal, Nutella, and honey. I wanted everything but the last two ingredients. The man who helped me was very nice. I got my açaí bowl and took it to a nearby table to eat. I dug in; no açaí. Thinking that it might have been on the other side, I scooped from that area: no açaí. I returned to the man who helped me and said, "My açaí bowl has no açaí." He got the manager, who started yelling at me, saying, "You're wasting everyone's time! I have the right to put what I want on the menu and not include it in the dish!" I said, "But that's false advertising." He grew livid. I have been visiting Melting Sun pretty regularly as I pass through South Station during my commute and I have not once been disappointed. I am eating a croissant with ham and cheese in it right now which is so fresh and delicious I actually stopped what I was doing and said "I have to write a review right this very minute....it's that good!". I've also had egg, ham & cheese sandwiches on a plain bagel which have been equally divine. Wish I was around at lunch time to try more items on the menu! Everything's so FRESH! read more
