Came here for the first time on a whim with my sister after a Boston Banshees game. They didn't have any tables for 2 on a Saturday at 7:30 but we easily found seats at the bar. They had the Kentucky Derby on, but it was nice that the TV was slightly higher on the wall so you weren't forced to watch if you didn't want to. They had fun and creative specialty cocktails, my sister said the blueberry cobbler was really tasty. We started with the tuna crispy rice (my sister's favorite app ever), and we saw smash burgers on the menu and made up our minds immediately. The tuna crispy rice had a really flavorful sauce on it. After a great WFH experience at Shy Bird Fenway, I was excited to visit their Southie location. The bar was set pretty high by Fenway so I was left mildly disappointed. Everyone at the Fenway location was super welcoming and friendly, and our server was attentive and went above and beyond. Compared to our experience at Southie, where the hostess seemed like she couldn't care less about being there. There was only one server when we came in around 11am on a Tuesday, and she was also making drinks so it took a while for us to be able to place an order. I got the Chicken Shawarma Pita, which was decent for a non-Mediterranean restaurant. It came with a huge side of fries, which were nice and crispy. After trying both their WFH breakfast and lunch menus, I'd probably only come back for breakfast. The space itself is large and has a lot of natural sunlight. It was thoughtful of them to close some of the shades when the sun got too bright though. There are also clean restrooms, fast wifi, and outlets spread out around for easy access. read more

The first time I tried shy bird it was so good but the second time was not great. I got the Calabrian chicken Caesar wrap with a side of fries and my friend and I shared the sauce flight. I was super excited to try the wrap after seeing a lot of reviews on TikTok and it was okay. It lacked a lot of flavor for me but the chicken and lettuce inside were good. The fries had rosemary on them which was super fragrant and overpowering. I wouldn't order that again. The sauces in the sauce flight seemed to be watered down. In terms of service, we were helped right away but after our food came our server forgot about us. We didn't get any napkins, forks or knives and it took a long time to pay the bill. Always a great time when we go - quick service very friendly staff and delicious food! You would think that their specialty is chicken but they do everything else well too! I'll never understand why waiters refuse to write down orders when they're dealing with a larger party. Certainly not impressing anyone by messing up the orders and making people wait forever. They've introduced a "Work from Shy Bird" concept where they roll out three different menus, offering everything from an all-you-can-drink coffee to lunch specials and an after-work drink option. I've never seen this concept before, and trust me, it's an interesting take on the traditional work-lunch scenario. They have a Happy Hour which they call "Shy Hour." As you might be aware, Happy Hours aren't allowed in Massachusetts, but Shy Bird cleverly interprets this with a competitively priced menu that's a great value for an after-work drop-in. The $3.50 beer does comes in a smaller glass. IMO, Shy Bird is an ideal spot for a mid-day meal or a relaxed dinner with friends. I'd confidently give it a four out of five stars. Stopped by to get a bite and some work done on a weekday morning. The fried chicken sandwich was absolutely delicious - so juicy and crunchy. In terms of a place to work, it's a decent setup with good wifi and even printing. Lots of space to spread out and outlets everywhere. Outdoor seating as well if you want sun. It was empty the entire morning and started to pick up when the lunch crowd started coming in. The music and background noise wasn't too loud so you can take calls. The service was nice as they would check in on you but left you alone for the most part. They also have this special Work from Shybird set up that I didn't try out since I didn't need coffee and wasn't planning on staying too long. 4.5/5. FINALLY got to go in and try the chicken caesar wrap here! I was hoping to check out the Fenway location, but ended up with a reservation at the one on Kendall Sq instead. Got to sit outside which was very nice, and I do really like the decor on the inside (applies to Fenway too, from pictures I've seen). The wrap was certainly one of the best chicken caesar wraps I have ever had and I crave it at least a few times a week since I've had it. Some people like a more classic dish, but I really liked the acidity that the onions and sauce added. The chicken inside was perfectly crispy, and overall, it was just fantastic. What really impressed me too, was the large portion size and the reasonable pricing. We also shared fries and a cocktail (generous pour of alcohol and great taste) each with my friend and came out to ~$40 per person. I had the most incredible bacon, egg, cheddar, and chicken sandwich here. Dare I say, one of the best breakfast sandwiches I ever had!? It's hard to mess up to such a basic sandwich but each aspect of the sandwich was just done so right. We were seated immediately, service was wonderfully friendly and attentive, and the ambiance was nice, dim, and buzzing. I also think I ordered the wrong thing because my whole meal was just straight up a rotisserie chicken and a side of lettuce. It was very plain and the only thing that made it good was the sauces. We've been here a handful of times since they opened. The ranch chicken sandwich is sneakily one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in Boston, and it keeps us coming back for more! The chicken is juicy, and the ranch dressing pairs with it perfectly. One of our servers once suggested I do an off-menu order of 50/50 honey mustard and ranch on the sandwich - it obviously tasted a little sweeter than the original. I didn't regret trying it, but I definitely prefer 100% of the ranch tang. I love the skinny fries, they are seasoned with rosemary and are always crispy. The alternate side salad is basic but the dressing is light and refreshing. They used to have these spicy shrimp skewers with a pea puree on the menu that were SO good. I was super bummed to not see it on the menu last time I went. If anybody with menu planning power is reading this... please put the shrimp skewers back on the menu! We recently discovered their Shy Hour, which runs weekdays from 4-6pm, and includes great food deals (including my above mentioned chicken sandwich!) and a few cheaper-priced cocktails compared to their regular drink menu. I will say though, my strawberry margarita did not taste strong at all, so price definitely correlates with drink quality. They otherwise have a great bar program with unique drinks and worthwhile mocktails, and the service is always friendly and attentive. They are also family-friendly, which I always appreciate now that I dine out with a little one. They have high chairs at the appropriate height for both the standard tables and the high tops, and coloring pages and crayons to keep them entertained. I got takeout tonight from the Kendall Square location and I realized shortly after I got there to pick up my dinner that I had messed up my order. The gentleman at the front of the restaurant could not have provided better service. I explained my issue and without another word he explained how he was going to help me get my problem sorted. Even if there was any doubt in my mind (there wasn't), the greens sealed the deal! More on that later. A huge group gathered to celebrate a birthday. As we were waiting, someone was talking about "Dunks." I soon realized it wasn't Dunkin Donuts we were chatting about. These are fried chicken bites - fresh, hot, tasty, crisp, and delicious; great sauces too! These were appetizers I 'borrowed' from the table - if someone from the party is reading this - thank you. For the main attraction, I ordered the Ranch Fried Chicken Sandwich. This was almost divine! The chicken was cooked to perfection, with a moist and tender interior and a light and crisp exterior. Everything in the sandwich was well balanced, with the other ingredients complimenting the chicken and enhancing the flavors nicely. The level of heat was fantastic, however, this is where the 'almost' comes in. It felt like the hot sauce used was very vinegar-heavy, and reminded me of Frank's. Someone must have taken the slogan "I put that **** on everything" very seriously. For the side, I was given an option of fries of greens. While I love fried potatoes as much as the next person, I decided to go for greens instead. These things were not only dressed superbly, but so fresh I suspect they are grown in-house! I would happily choose the greens again next time, (or ask for both!) For drinks, I opted for two different mocktails. While I don't remember specifics, here's what I can tell you: I typically view mocktails with heavy skepticism. Far too many places mix juice, seltzer, lemon, and charge $10 for it. This wasn't the case with Shy Bird. The ones I had were unique, distinct, and as flavorful and interesting as a crafty cocktail, only without the alcohol. Mocktails done right! Then there was the service. This truly showed how terrific of an operation Shy Bird has going. First, while we were waiting for the reserved area of the restaurant to open up, we were set up with waters and appetizers to hold us over (on the house as far as I know). When it came time for us to be seated, the service remained fast and attentive throughout the evening. With all of this, I would not only happily return to Shy Bird, but it is also a serious contender for a milestone birthday gathering I am planning. One last thing: this is review #999. Found this Cute little place in south Boston as we searched for a bite to eat while venturing Boston on a rainy day. Great friendly atmosphere with staff willing to share their suggestions for not only their favorite bites but also some local sights to see. We enjoyed Mac and cheese, pretzels, Dunks ( I had the six piece with the flight of sauces, loved the bird bath and the sweet and sour the best), and one big chicken salad. The brothers and I needed a place that took reservations for 10 before a Red Sox game on a Friday night. The reviews for Shy Bird on open table were great, so I took a chance and didn't miss. The service was excellent, we had Miguel as our server, and he was two thumbs up. The drinks came out fast, and the food was faster. I don't think there was much of anything left on the table besides empty glasses and bowls. Overall i would give this place a 3.5/4 Service was great for a Saturday brunch! Greeted and seated easily and the crew checked up on us and even gave us some some water for my friend's dog that we en route. I had the breakfast burrito and truffle fries. Shy Bird is an absolutely excellent place offering all things comfort food for a very reasonable price. The environment is comfortable, with a pretty central bar with modern hanging light fixtures. My favorite go-to item is the Ranch Chicken Sandwich, and no exaggeration, it is consistently the best chicken sandwich I had in my life. The service is great with your order coming out very quickly. It's a place where you won't have to break the bank to have a very good meal. They also have a promotional deal where you can work remotely from their locations, while also getting to order food for free, up to $16 dollars, without beverages included. Came here after some fierce pickle ball games at pkl. It was a quick walk down the block and so we didn't have to give up our parking spot. The location is right next to castle island brewing, you can really make it a day of pickle ball, chicken and drinking! Wifey was excited because they had their brunch menu. They had a lot of different options, I decided to split the whole roasted chicken with a friend while wifey got the chicken and waffles. This place is known for their roasted chicken and they did a great job. It was a tad bit salty but overall very good. The chicken was cooked properly and the breast was moist. The whole chicken does not come with sides so I got the smashed potatoes and my friend got the rosemary fries. Both sides were solid. The service was great, I was pleasantly surprised at how solid they were. Wifey said the chicken and waffles were good, but the waffle was a little too sweet. The waffle already was sweet and the syrup is added to the plate (not on the sid I'd come here again and try their fried chicken and egg sandwich. I would give this establishment a four star review, but there were a few things that aggravated us enough to bump our rating down to three stars. 1. The "kitchen fee?" That was automatically added onto our check. It's strange, should this not be included in the price of food? It also causes some customers to lower the tip they would have given otherwise. 2. I ordered a $13 drink as a double. The final cost of the drink was $25. You're telling me an additional shot of alcohol was $12? If so, okay... my issue is that my sister and I ordered the same beverage (she ordered a single), and when the drinks came out, we were very clearly told which was the double and which was the single. However, after finishing more than half of my drink, my sister and I discovered that she was given the double and I was given the single. 3. The service was unsatisfactory.
