My friends and I went to MC Kitchen while visiting Miami. They were very accommodating with last minute reservation changes. We started with the burrata which came with fried polenta. The burrata was good but not the best I've had. I had the asparagus and mascarpone ravioli in a saffron and olive oil sauce. The dish comes with shrimp but since I'm vegetarian I omitted it. It was very tasty and well flavored. My friends ordered the pear and cheese ravioli dish and enjoyed it. For dessert, the stand out item was the caramel panna cotta. Spending New Years in Miami our party of 4 came here with high expectations. While the starters and dessert were excellent, the entrees were a huge disappointment to put it lightly. Two dinners were fish and by the next afternoon it happened; a definite case of food poisoning! The 2 non- fish customers escaped without symptoms but the 2 having the fish became violently ill and the rest of our trip was ruined. Management was reluctant to do the right thing and it took much persuasion to only have the 2 entrees reimbursed, hardly acceptable for a high end restaurant. I don't write many yelp reviews but I use it a lot to see what people are saying about restaurants before going. So I've decided to start writing more real reviews. This restaurant got great reviews so I booked for last week to celebrate my anniversary. It was on a Wednesday night so i didn't think it would be packed but there were only 2-3 other tables taken - not a good sign. The decor was nice but I really wasn't impressed with much else. When i walked in i could see that the chef was in the kitchen so i thought we would be in for a treat. My waiter was very nice but also very wrinkled which i personally can't stand. His attentiveness was mediocre and the supposed sommelier didn't look the part at all (i suspect he wasn't one). We ordered the tuna tartare, the fig pizzeria and a salad to start. The tuna was tasteless and the fig flatbread was soggy in the middle but still probably the tastiest thing we ate, but that doesn't say much. I later had the Cobia for dinner and my husband the Lamb. My cobia seemed overcooked and the lamb was also no big deal. Finally we had the Tiramisu that was made more with chocolate cake and that was whatever. Overall, not a good meal that took way too long for a Wednesday night even though we were the only table by the time we left. To top it all off, I was sick to my stomach (if you know what i mean) the next morning. I suspect it was the tuna because it was the only thing my husband didn't eat. Very classy place but unfortunately i was not wowed by the menu. A consensus from my fellow diners revealed that the food was overpriced and not that good. It is very fancy and you can probably impress a date here, but I have had way better. They get three stars because the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The dessert was dry. The espresso was just not right. It just felt like a place that was so impressed with itself that it feels like the customer should also be impressed regardless of the fare. Very good food and nice atmosphere. Ordered the pizza ($19) to start. Looked better than it tasted, however it was still good. For main courses, ordered the pear and cheese fiocci, as well as the garganelli bolognese. Both were excellent and can be offered in half portions. Dining out, lately, I often feel the trendier the restaurant the less quality I should expect. Sadly, my long awaited lunch outing felt more like an experiment than an experience. Let's start at the bar. I arrived, walked past the terrace, I thought our party was in for a treat: the Chef was in! Pre-opening, I had such anticipation: stories about the female chef, the photos of sumptuous food, the fact something new was coming to my local area, locavore & the restaurant was modern Italian (I was once Italian, by marriage. I have deep respect for the food & culture). I approached the bar because there was no one to greet guests on arrival. I was a little early for my reservation so I took a seat, but noticed the staff around me went out of their way to avert their eyes from making contact (at that point, the restaurant was not full). I asked the bartender for a coffee while I waited for the rest of my party and mentioned I had a reservation. Not only did the bartender manage to serve three other guests who had arrived at the bar after me, all I got from him was a weak, insincere plea to wait a little longer. He did not even offer a glass of water (in the middle of August, in Miami)...and I never got my coffee. That was my first ten minutes. We ordered from the Miami Spice Menu. I can say the dishes were slightly inspired combinations of ingredients that, sadly, did not quite deliver on complimentary flavors. My burrata appetizer with "more pithy than juicy" peaches...maybe this restaurant shines with their staple menu items? For the main course, I boldly requested gluten-free pasta in an Italian restaurant! I was curious to see if a professional kitchen could impress me with an unconventional type of pasta. Al dente? Chalky. After my first 10 minutes on arrival and the overly salty hit of the calamari in the sauce, I wasn't convinced sending the dish back would improve things. For the record, it's not the first time I've been disappointed with the preparation of a dish on the first try in that area of Miami. I know many people don't go to the Design District area for food but, for all the restaurants available now and the hype...maybe my expectations were too high? Maybe I'm one of a few Miami Natives who know our restaurant culture existed before the "trendies"? Kudos to the dessert Chef/prep team (?) The mango cheesecake was divine! My review might not make a difference...service will go on and more customers than myself will accept to pay more for decent and eventually not expect exceptional. Honestly, I don't like writing a less than favorable review. It could have just been an "off day" at the venue. Maybe I'd have been more impressed if I didn't cook or hadn't lived abroad. Place it is nice, trandy atmosphere. Food it is ok. The ribollita need to be revised, it is just a cannellini beans soup with croutons. Mussels were good, Tortellini was ok. Service need help. I was with a group at this joint on Saturday when an altercation between waiting customers and the owner started. There were about a dozen or so F bomb's dropped and it got quite nasty. This incident truly ruined our special evening out. From what I could tell the gentleman approached the owner to inquiry why their party of 6 had not yet been seated, even though they had a 8 p.m. reservation. He started out by saying, hello and was very polite. The owner just gave him back attitude. I am not sure but I think it was close to 8:30 when this happened. My BF and I looked around and saw at least 5 tables of 6 sitting empty. The owner told the two men to get the FUCK out of his restaurant. This sure didn't add to the already non existent atmosphere. Seemed to me the owner was just being a prick. BUT as it turned out, much to our surprise, they must have been saving the tables for a VIP spillover (but why not tell these people that?) and send them to the bar and give them a round? Shortly before we left Justin Timeberlake and Jessica Biel came in with an entourage. The entourage ended up with these folks table. *** I would probably give this place 4.5 stars *** I have been here two times now so time for a review. The first time I ate here I was with a friend and we decided to keep it light (the amount of things we ordered) although we ended up getting some very very rich food. We started with the artichoke bruschetta which was a total and complete hit. When I think about this dish (along with the brunch pizzas at Michael's and Harry's) I think about the Portlandia skit "put a bird on it" except I am thinking put an egg on it. This was a piece of bread with a piece of artichoke on top follwed by an egg followed by some truffles. Absolutely delicious!!!!!!! We needed some more bread to sop up the eggy goodness. We also split their caesar salad as well as the spinach lasagna. Both were excellent and the lasagna was pretty rich thanks to the bechamel cheese. For desert we got the strawberry brown butter something and it was pretty awesome as well. I am not normally a strawberry person but this desert rocked. I went again last night with a friend who was in town for a few nights. We sat at the bar overlooking the open kitchen and I really liked sitting there. It was nice to be able to see what they were doing, ask some questions and get some recommendations. We started with the artichoke bruschetta again (put an egg on it!!!!!) and it didn't disappoint. Up next was the air-dried bresaola. I had never had this before anywhere but it was out of this world. I would get this everytime. Up next was the spaghetti with Florida prawns and arrabiata sauce. They split this up for us and it was great as well. The pasta was super fresh and we got 3 shrimps each. Finally we got the grouper with clam sauce, broccoli rabe and some little pieces of diced sausage. This was incrediby tasty as well although the portion was a bit on the small side. We also got a side of spinach which was good as well. Overall this place is pretty great. The service was excellent and everyone was very helpful. I loved this spaces previous restaurant Fratelli Lyon, but this place is outstanding and I am already planning my next dinner with another friend who is coming in town. read more

A restaurant for old, rich people from Aventura that want to feel cool. The atmosphere and service are amongst the best you'll find in Miami but their offerings are mediocre. To start, I sat at the bar for a drink while waiting for my party to arrive. I asked for a Johnny Black on the rocks but they're to cool for the most popular scotch so the bartender offered me something "similar". I don't remember what it was by name but I'm pretty sure it was a single malt. Why he would offer me a single malt when asking for a blended scotch is beyond me but at $17 a glass plus tax and tip I wasn't happy. The service is as friendly as can be without getting too informal. That is where they shine and along with the elegant, modern atmosphere is where it ends. Their pasta dishes are entree sized which is appropriate for Miami but they failed to deliver a dish that the atmosphere promised. They committed the unforgivable sin of overcooked pasta. Fail fail fail. I can overlook the bland, yet plentiful pulled pork in my pasta dish but there is zero excuse for mushy pasta. I'll stick to some other restaurants for quality gourmet Italian fare in Miami. In conclusion: Great place to impress a date ( especially for the 50+ crowd), not a great place for one looking for high calibre Italian fare. read more

MC Kitchen is absolutely amazing... I went on Sunday for brunch and their menu is great; from pasta, to pizza, to ceviche, to egg-based dishes, I wanted it all! As a truffle-lover, I ended up ordering 2 dishes with truffle: The Black Truffle Bruschetta and the Roasted Pear & Cheese Fiocchi (with white truffle cream)... both dishes were delicious. The Black Truffle Bruschetta included a poached egg and crispy prosciutto that perfectly matched the flavor of the truffle; the bruschetta was moist because of the egg yolk. The Roasted Pear & Cheese Fiocchi had the perfect contrast of sweet and salty flavors; the pear flavor was sweet and the truffle cream was salty. Additionally, I order the Cobia Crudo which was pretty good but I think it could've done better without the celery. The Black Mission Fig Pizzetta was also a great choice; the pizza bread was a great texture because it was crispy but juicy all at once. The blend of flavors of fig and prosciutto on the Pizzetta gave it a nice taste. I definitely recommend MC Kitchen at any time, but especially for Brunch. The service is great and pretty quick. It is a pretty quiet atmosphere and very family-friendly. Unquestionably your next spot for Sunday family brunch! read more

Food was good, terrible restaurant management. Unfortunately, we had a bad experience because the restaurant allowed a customer to sit with his dog in a prime location. The dog was feeding off the customer's food, drinking water from a plastic cup on the floor and the manager was totally unapologetic about it. We were really looking forward to dinner at MC Kitchen, but short of the good drinks the rest of the meal was mediocre. My wife had the short rib which we thought was over cooked. I had the snapper which tasted way too fishy to the point where we questioned whether or not it was actually snapper. Lastly, we ordered a side of mushrooms which they forgot to bring out with the entrees. We asked the waitress and she said it would be right out, but we were almost finished with our meal by the time the mushrooms arrived. Did not meet my expectations. Pasta dishes were fantastic and our suggestion to make a mezcal negroni was well executed. Service was very poor. Despite having a reservation, we were unable to be seated until 30 minutes past our reservation time. Perhaps par for the course but when asked if this was common the manager basically told our party of 4 who was last to leave at 1130 on a Friday that it was our fault it took so long, making sure to cite from her ipad that we were exactly 12 minutes late for our 9pm reservation. So, we should have expected to wait. Perhaps my expectations are too high but given the price tag i would recommend finding a similar pasta dish at Soyka for half price and better service. read more

This is one of those places that serves common tasty flavor profiles, even though the pasta may not be perfect al dente. complimentary bread with olive oil great. started with the black mission fig pizzetta (actually a large size) -- cippolini marmalade, parma prosciutto, fontina cheese, arugula, saba vinaigrette. excellent figs and mix of sweet and savory. also had the stone oven roasted octopus nero risotto forma, pancetta-sherry vinaigrette. this was interesting with the textures, but the risotto was a little hard. shared 3 pastas: Bucatini Alla Carbonara -- 63 degree farm egg, black pepper, creamy parmagiano sauce, guanciale powder -- can't go wrong with this combo and was very tasty. Wild Leek Pappardelle forever braised pork ragu, pecorino romano -- also flavorful. Garganelli Bolognese -- ground veal, venison, pork, porcini mushrooms. larger portions than expected. brussel sprout has with bacon. nothing extra creative about all the dishes with various kinds of bacon but tasty nonetheless. read more

Went for the Miami Spice menu but it was too limited. If the was an Italian, it must have been very Northern Italy. Had the Artichoke Heart Bruschetta. Nothing to write home about in that the fonduta was much too runny and thin. The egg only added to the runny quality and could not taste any cheese. The sour dough bread was not good to absorb since the crust was too thick to absorb. Had the yellowtail snapper which was poor. First thing I smelled was that it was fishy. Probably smelled fishy because it was not fresh. It was over cooked and on the dry side. The braised green lentils were overcooked, tasteless and had an unpleasant texture. The asparagus was laid between the lentils and the fish and neither the fish or the lentils complemented the asparagus. It there was any brown butter verjus on this plate, I could not find it.. read more

I went to MC Kitchen last weekend for a birthday. We had reservations at 9:30 and were seated at 10:00pm but considering that 1 extra person showed up and they had to rearrange our table, I guess a 30 minute wait is not so bad. Also, the host himself was very gracious and helpful and guided us to our table the moment it was ready. If you don't frequent the design district then you might have some trouble finding MCk. The sign is white and MC is embossed in white and kitchen is in bold black letters on the bottom so be aware. I was lucky enough to snag a parking space right on the street in front of the restaurant. Yay me! Lol MC kitchen's ambiance is an older and sophisticated crowd. Seemed like a mix of yuppies and locals. If you don't have reservations you can always drop by and have a drink at the bar. It is really nice inside. While I opted for a glass of wine since I was driving, my friend ordered one of their signature whiskey drinks and it was made to perfection. Luckily the taste made up for it's presentation. Now onto the food! I'm going to keep this short and sweet: Stone oven roasted octopus. I wasn't a fan of octopus until I tried this!!! It comes with delicious black risotto! Roasted pear and cheese fiocchi. WOW. The fiocchi literally melts in your mouth in all it's cheesy and buttery glory with the sweetness of pear. Wow! The portion was small, however pasta is filling for me so I was content. I'm looking forward to trying the pumpkin tortellini next time!!! My only issue that night was that service was VERY VERY slow and at that point the restaurant wasn't that full anymore. Minus 1 star. read more

My friend and I visited MC for brunch on Valentine's Day after reading about the restaurant in a "Top ten brunch places in Miami, FL" article. The location is great as it is located in the up and coming ritzy area of the Design District. You can go for a walk after your dining experience to work off a few calories! The inside decor is modern and had a nice feel to it. Be prepared to sit very close to other diners if you request a table for two. The brunch menu is much more lunch geared than breakfast focused and even the breakfast options sway more to selections that I would typically eat for lunch. Even so, we were seated and prepared to have a nice V-day celebration so we began perusing the menu. We first settled on an appetizer and were about to order, but the server told us that we should order our entire meal at the same time since they expected to be quite busy throughout the day. I was not sure if this was a helpful tip or a statement set on hurrying us along. So we went back to the drawing board and continued to sift through the menu options to order our entire meal at the same time, per the server's request. We settled on sharing the following: yellowfin tuna crudo, sunny side up farm egg pizza, a side of applewood bacon and a side of chicken apple sausage links. The yellowfin tuna was on the pricier side and included six small slices of tuna with cukes and avocado. The tuna was pretty fresh. The bacon was cut thick and each slice had a perfect crisp. The chicken Apple sausage links were AMAZING! The dish only contained three regular sized links, but the taste of the ground chicken and Apple was on point. Lastly, on the farm egg pizza, if it was not for the two eggs on top of the pizza, this would have been a pretty standard lunch ask, albeit the other non-breakfast toppings were really good. I want to highlight my pizza order experience as it left me disappointed with the server and willingness to help a customer with their eating preferences. I do not mind sunny side up eggs, but I like a dry "non-liquidy" yolk. I asked the server to request the eggs hard and his immediate response was: yea that's not going to happen as the eggs are placed on top of the pizza and placed in the oven. The pizza will burn if left too long. I totally understood the concept but we even asked if the eggs could be cooked apart. This was apparently a no-go and when the pizza came out the eggs could not have been more watery. Fortunately, my friend was okay with taking one for the team and ate the pieces with egg, but it was disappointing on my end. This is one of the best restaurants in Miami. It is world class modern Italian cuisine delivered with American creativity and using the finest ingredients. To top it off the restaurant has a contemporary luxury ambience and a five star staff delivering impeccable service. What I liked: 1) The creative appetizers. The restaurant has superb appetizer dishes. My favorite is the Artichoke Bruschetta which is served topped with a poached egg and black truffle cream sauce and a generous portion of shaved black truffles. The dish is sublime in terms of taste, texture and appearance. The octopus dish is equally good. In fact all the appetizers I have tried are "to die for". 2) Fantastic entrees done perfectly. The Roasted Pear and cheese Fiucci is superb - probably the best example I have tasted anywhere in the world. If you don't feel like a pasta main, you should consider it as an appetizer. The short rib is also melt-in-your mouth goodness. The Halibut entree is one of my favorites - lightly seared to be flaky and butter soft, but crispy on the edges. The Garganelli Bolognese is as good as the version you will find in Firenze Tuscany - with its veal, pork and venizon base combined with porcini mushrooms. Whatever you order you can't go wrong, although the scallops and risotto was less standout than the other dishes I mentioned. 3) The desserts are creative and sublime. They have creatively reinvented classic favorites. The baked chocolate mousse is superb. It reminds me a little of a cross between a mousse and a soufflé and it is topped with a salt cotton candy and whipped cream. It's a must have - and not to be shared! The tiramisu is equally reimagined and by comparison the classic version is a poor cousin. The strawberry brown butter tart is delicious and the coconut and fig pannacotta is simple but tasty. 4) Dining room is an upscale venue epitomizing the modernity and luxury that characterizes what the design district is increasingly about. 5) Service is superb. After a couple of visits the staff remembers me. They are friendly and direct you to the right dishes. Your glass is always full, and everything is timely. Its easy to forget you are in Miami. This is a beautiful spacious modern space. Came here for dinner during a week night. Its busy and happening. The salad was of ample amount and delicious. Chicken flavorful a bit on the salty side. Pasta rather bland and dessert was a complete flop. The most unimaginative chocolate cake drowning in a puddle of syrup and melted ice cream. The staff could be a little more authentic. The hostess needs to smile a little. Her lukewarm energy was very unbecoming. Our waiter meant well but again the energy of the whole place was very flat and pretentious. It was for a bday dinner and they did brought me a tiny candle on top of the dessert for free. Honestly its pretty pathetic. Mind you i have been to way fancier places with superior customer service. Restaurant disappointed mainly because the "special" risotto (crab that evening)-- I learned only after reviewing the bill the following morning -- was $44. , more than twice as much as any other pasta dish on the menu. While the waiter did not disclose the prices of the "specials" which can happen, it is awkward to ask when you are hosting other people and you expect that a special is in the same general range of prices as the other pasta dishes which are ON the menu. I did call the restaurant the following day and expressed this view to the female employee who answered the phone, she said she would relay to the owner(s) and took my number to call me back --- I never received a courtesy return call from now 1-1/2 weeks ago.. I see that a couple of other earlier reviewers particularly noted the overpriced "special" but regrettably ownership hasn't changed its practice. My wife and I celebrated an anniversary last night at MC Kitchen. I wanted to find a place neither of us had enjoyed previously (not an easy task). We dined near the open kitchen which we both enjoyed. The service was very attentive and not at all rushed (explains perhaps why our table wasn't ready when we arrived!). The menu has something for everyone and the food quality, presentation and, most importantly, the flavors were exquisite. We had the scallops and the warm cheese wrapped in prosciutto to start. We shared the carbonara pasta before the main and then for the main we each shared the halibut and the beef short rib. We would order exactly the same if we had to do it all over again.
