I was in the mood for Bronzino and figured Miami would be the perfect place for fresh seafood, so I came across Il Pastaiolo and made a reservation through OpenTable, better safe than sorry, although they did seem to accept walk-ins and it wasn't too busy at the time. Everything I ordered was delicious. I had a pineapple mojito, lobster fettuccine, and the Mediterranean Bronzino. The portions were just right, very satisfying without leaving me overly full. Unfortunately, I didn't have room for dessert, but that just gives me a reason to come back! The service was great, and I was seated outside, which made for a perfect atmosphere. We had another very nice visit! The food continues to be out of this world, from gnocchi to angel hair to fettuccine, they do everything right! This last visit we missed a little bit on the service, it was a slower day and our waitress seemed stretched thin. Previously, we've always ordered wine but this time a friend ordered an espresso martini, and it was not very good. All of the cocktails here are pre-mixed (you can't order anything not on the menu), which is kind of a downer. We look forward to another visit, but will stick to wine. read more

The staff are young and friendly, though the menu is a bit pricey for what you get (but, that's par-for-the-course in this area). The pasta was great, but I won't lie and say I wasn't a bit disappointed by how basic/prepackaged the salad felt. The meatballs were also a bit of a letdown, so I might recommend skipping apps and just getting entrees here. A very unexpected surprise on vacation. When you are looking for comfort while vacationing, Il Pastaialo is the perfect place. The restaurant is quaint without being too small, Checkered tables dot the interior with an authentic menu. The clam linguini was fresh, perfectly cooked and seasoned perfectly tilt. Patio Restaurant with an Italian experience. With all the amazing reviews we had to try this place. We were seated on time with our reservations. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. This place seems like its a family run operation. Tried the Caesar salad. The ingredients were fresh and not overdressed. Overall taste was good but didn't over impress. My kids ordered some pasta dishes which they both said were excellent and they both looked amazing. The portions were generous and well presented. We also tried the pizza which was okay as the crust was very basic and no one was overly impressed. I also noticed they only have two pizzas on the menu and my personal recommendation would be to take it out. I also tried the octopus which was very good. Also not incredible as it lacked some of the char. It was also slightly small compared to some of the photos I saw online for $30. I felt it was slightly underwhelming. The desserts were amazing as the table side tiramisu was an excellent presentation, the Nutella cake was really good. A little dry but overall very good. The cheesecake was also excellent, very light and definitely something I would recommend. My recommendation is to stick with the pastas as that seems to be their strong point. All of their options seem to be there to fill a menu. For $250 with no alcohol it seems high but apparently this is South Beach pricing for family friendly restaurants. We loved our experience at Il Pastaiolo. We made a reservation for a Saturday night and were seated right away. It had a cute outdoor area with lemon decorations. Our server, Leandro, was the best. Attentive, friendly. We never had to ask for more water. He was always on top of it. On to the food. We loved the free bread and the oil and vinegar to dip it in. The caprese salad was just okay. The burrata was great but the lettuce had a funny taste. Our favorite was the mortadella pizza. That is why we went to the restaurant in the first place. Would NOT recommend this place. My 4 girlfriends, all in our early twenties, and went here for dinner during our last day in South beach. Our waiter seemed like he didn't like us and hated his job. It felt like because we were younger less attention was given to us despite spending around $300 here. We were barely checked up on, no smiles, just sit eat leave. Be aware that when they bring out water for your table they charge you $9 a bottle without telling you, major scam. We ordered a mojito pitcher because none of us rly wanted to drink but have been trying to find the best mojito in south beach, the waiter practically scoffed at us when we said we'd just split a pitcher. The pitcher was watered down and 75% ice. We also asked for the mango mojito and they brought us the lime one. We didn't send it back because we didn't want anymore interactions with our waiter and were optimistic that it would be good. $55 for mint water. I don't understand the good ratings for this place, I could get the same quality Italian food at Cheesecake Factory. They offer gluten free penne which is nice. Pizza wasn't good, wasn't finished. Pastas were finished and tasted good but nothing special at all. If you have ever had real Italian food in Italy this place is a joke. Not upscale at all. We came here for a Friday night birthday dinner. We had a reservation but didn't actually need it. I'm not sure if there is inside seating, but we sat outside on a nice night. We both got a glass of red wine, and we decided to split the risotto mushrooms and gnocchi cacio e pepe and truffle. They were both good, but I think I liked the gnocchi a little better than the risotto. All in all, service was fine. Friendly throughout, we felt a little rushed at the start, but then it took a while to get the bill ay the end. The standout place to get authentic Italian cuisine in a very crowded area. Don't make the mistake of eating at a place on South Beach or Collins Ave that sells a little bit of everything if you're in the mood for Italian. Stop here and you will not regret it. I ordered the chicken parmigiana. It was properly prepared, pounded flat and covered with sauce and cheese. It came with a side of fettuccini alfredo. The noodles were cooked to perfection, not too soft nor too hard. The sauce was creamy, but not overpowering, and distributed appropriately. The portions were not huge, but given the quality, I had no complaints. The service was fantastic. Our server Elisa was attentive and she spoke fluent Italian. Our glasses were kept full, bread service was prompt, and our meal was paced well throughout the night. This is not the cheapest place but no table service restaurant is in Miami Beach. I don't believed I've ever been served a Margarita made with lemon juice, instead of lime, in my life. Even up to the slices of lemon perched on the top of the glass. Good day. Today we visited this establishment, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. My husband and I, being tourists, came in the evening after reading positive reviews online, but the reality was very different from what we expected. We were greeted by a very kind young woman who helped seat us -- that was the only positive part of the evening. However, inside seating was not available, and we had to sit outside in the cold, which completely ruined the romantic atmosphere we had hoped for. We quickly just wanted to finish and get back to the warmth of the car. We ordered three dishes for two people. The portions were small -- subjectively, that was acceptable -- but the real issue was the service. The waiter barely spent three minutes with us, mixed up our orders, brought us paid water without informing us, and then confused the drinks. The mojito was mixed with mango juice by mistake, and when they tried to fix it, the "mango juice" turned out to be just diluted water. Additionally, while we were sitting outside in the cold, no one offered us blankets or any kind of accommodation. The staff constantly seemed to be in a hurry, never clarified or double-checked our order. I didn't even have time to ask questions -- the waiter would already be rushing away. There was no feeling that we were being heard or cared for. This is extremely poor service. And honestly, having traveled to many cities, I have never experienced such a bad attitude in a tourist location. The main purpose and primary clientele here are tourists, and places like this should represent their city in the best possible way. In conclusion, due to all these issues, we do not plan to return and do not recommend this place to others. read more

Pulled this one up after doing some quick research, and I am thankful that we ended up coming here because the food was tremendous! Had the Fettuccine Alfredo (added some shrimp) and the Fettuccine Bolognese. Flavor was amazing on the pastas! But what really wowed me was the quality of the fettucine itself. Like damn, I could just tell that these noodles were on another level quality-wise. We were both pleasantly surprised for sure. Service was great! The manager, Martina was wonderful, she patiently listened to my broken Italian and, frankly, made it feel like when I would have dinner with all my familiga back in Detroit. Ok bear with me on this one. I have mixed feelings. Made reservations for this place. Off the bat the food was delicious. Some of the best Italian food out there so no complaints there. There was Cuban music playing in the background initially but then Italian. The server was hard to understand. Can't say if it was her accent or the fact that she spoke so low but it was difficult to understand each other. Now the reason for the rating. The service could have been a lot better. We went a long time without our server returning to fill our water glass. Then she brought the wrong plate but quickly fixed that issue. However we were charged for the wrong plate that she took back. We didn't notice this until later at the hotel while looking at the receipt. We went back the and super friendly manager quickly refunded us the $30 or so for the extra plate charge. The server didn't appear to be bothered by her mistake. Checked out this spot while in South Beach waiting to board a cruise. The main draw was trying pasta from the famous cheese wheel. Like most things in South Beach, it's a little kitschy, but far less than most places. Did the reservation online just an hour or two before hand, and promptly got a pretty prime seat on the patio. Service was really good and attentive once seated. We were in a group so decided to do tapas style with several appetizers and one order of the cheese wheel pasta. That way everyone could try everything. The sautéed mussels and clams ($22) were pretty phenomenal. Buttery. Garlicky. Perfectly prepared. Paired with the cherry tomatoes and crusty Italian bread it was a winner. The fried calamari and shrimp ($24) were also a hit. The house sauce they served with it was delectable. It was like a lemon infused mayo/aioli. I also believe there were some zucchini and squash in the mix as well. I'm not a tomato guy, so I didn't get into the bruschetta ($15), but the others at the table didn't leave a single morsel behind. I'll take that as a sign that it was also a good dish. Lastly; there was the pasta served out of the Parmesan cheese wheel ($55). It was part cuisine, part show. The server brings the wheel to the table, pours alcohol onto a large serving spoon and lights it on fire. They then pour the burning mix into the cheese wheel interior. This melts the outer layer of the cheese; which moments later (after the alcohol has burned off) has fresh pasta loaded into the cheesy, bubbly goodness. She then served a small portion to each of us. The pasta was *super* rich from the melted cheese. Almost a little too rich for my liking. Not that it was bad. It was just really overwhelming with the Parmesan. Once I realized just how rich; I did smaller bites, and really took in the flavor. It's one of those dishes where you really want to enjoy it for what it is. Overall, Il Pastaiolo was a solid choice for authentic Italian while in South Beach. Next time I'd probably skip the cheese wheel and dive into some of the other options, particularly the Gnocchi Cacio E Pepe And Truffle and the Bolognese; which the folks at the next table had. This is the worst Italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. The bread was burnt. The bruschetta was too salty. We still had hope that the pasta would be good due to the reviews. My husband had linguine with clams. It had no flavor and only 4 tiny clams. It looked nothing like the photo. My zucchini pasta with shrimp was also terrible. The photo showed a green cream sauce. My dish was watery, no flavor, no green. We were so disappointed. We kept adding cheese, salt and pepper but it barely helped. I'm sorry to trash this place as they were nice and didn't charge for the bruschetta but people should stay away. read more
