I was worried about the not very positive reviews but was highly surprised and relieved that my experience aired on the positive side . We did come on the earlier side and snagged a table ( high tops ) overlooking the water/beach. There aren't that many restaurants that has the same view and ambiance as ocean grill . We enjoyed the food from the salmon carpaccio ( with capers ), crab cake to the grilled branzino with a side of truffle fries . Yes we polished everything off . Went to dinner at Ocean Grill at The Setai, and the restaurant had a very upscale ambience and atmosphere. To start, we shared the mozzarella pizza, tuna tartare, and octopus. The octopus portion was very small, but the tuna tartare was excellent. The pizza was a nice size, although they could have served it with a proper serving utensil. For my main course, I went with the Chilean sea bass. It was good, although the portion was a bit small. For the side, our table shared the mashed potato and broccoli and they were both pretty good but nothing to write home about. To start, they had a great selection of wine so we ordered two glasses of red. My sister has a celiac allergy and they gave her the option to have gluten free bread. I love when restaurants accommodate to allergies so this was a very strong start. For appetizers, we ordered the tuna tartare and some oysters. Both were dreamy. This place was busy so I would recommend making a reservation - we made one for dinner at about lunch time and there were plenty of open slots, but when we arrived the place was packed. We ordered an appetizer to share and each got a pasta dish. The portions were the perfect size and everything was good. However, the service was very slow - we waited a really long time for our pasta and our waiter came back to the table twice to tell us it would be out shortly. We then also waited forever to see a dessert menu, so long in fact that we decided we were better off just leaving, and had to ask three separate members of the wait staff if we could get our check. One star is even too much. The food is terrible!!! Pasta had absolutely no flavor (tagliatelle with clams). Red sauce looked and tasted like Ragu, pasta was swimming in it -- the ny strip was 1/2 thick and was a piece of a garbage, not seared and served barely room temperature. FOH nice, but waiter seemed to be interested more in an all female table that spent 40 minutes browsing through the menu and ordered one little thing each, hasn't come around once to see if the food was okay. Margherita pizzette was crispy and had some good flavors; salmon carpaccio was expensive and honestly not worth it - was just bland fish garnished with hard boiled egg, a tiny dollop of crème fraiche and some black caviar- mediocre at best. So I was dying to start this years Miami spice with Setai but ended up at one of the other restaurants called Ocean Grill and absolutely loved the ambiance the food was delicious. I had a house salad and ravioli with short rib and tiramisu. I'm telling you this was great but I would definitely love it more during the day time because it's literally at the beach you have the pool view. Sunset vibes sound good too. I have to say - this was the most disappointing meal I have had in A LONG TIME. The food was literally Olive Garden quality - actually Olive Garden probably would've been better. I was excited to try it bc it is on the water and it's beautiful over there but WOW this meal was honestly disrespectful. We started with tuna tartare which literally had ZERO flavor, it was fully tuna and avocado - no sauce, no seasoning, nothing. The grilled artichoke was fine but hard to eat. Then we got the truffle pizza which was literally so thin and it wasn't even hot. The Trader Joe's frozen truffle pizza was by far better. We also got the pesto pasta and I actually couldn't believe they felt comfortable serving this - the noodles looked limp - genuinely must've been DAYS old pasta, I felt disrespected being served this - it was literally canned pesto sauce with so much olive oil it was disgusting. Came here for a dinner with one of our partner companies during a recent work event and it was fabulous. We were sitting right on the beach and the atmosphere was perfect (so was the view!). Our server was fantastic and we ordered quite a few appetizers to share and try different things. Everything was delicious! The main courses were delectable as well. The atmosphere is everything! The Setai Hotel is gorgeous! Ocean Grill has an ocean view and a great vibe for brunch. I love the artichoke appetizer, the coconut drinks, and the truffle pizza. I also had the salmon but unfortunately, it was a bit overcooked so I didn't finish it. The fingerling potatoes I ordered on the side were delish. I visited Ocean Grill at The Setai, Miami Beach late morning with my brother. Before entering, we asked about the dress code to make sure we were appropriate. Despite this, from the moment we sat down, we were made to feel unwelcome. We were told we could only stay 1.5 hours, while a manager repeatedly stared and whispered to our server. The constant attention made it clear we were being singled out and it was completely unnecessary. The only bright spot was the gentleman who greeted us at the entrance, he was kind and welcoming. Unfortunately, that professionalism didn't carry through the rest of the staff. Especially the manager overseeing the area, whose behavior was rude and dismissive. It's frustrating that even after confirming the rules, guests can be profiled for appearance. We left feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. For a property like this, basic courtesy and respect shouldn't be optional. Ocean Grill, please focus on treating any guests with respect, rather than policing appearance. read more

We have eaten here in our previous times in Miami Beach. Tonight was our last night of our current trip. Frankly, while the weather was perfect the entire week and while we are headed back to the cold and snow, it will be good after a week away to be home. So this was a fond farewell dinner. We were celebrating several occasions, all that come within a few weeks of each other, birthdays, V-Day, and our 24th Wedding Anniversary. We'd been eating out all week and we slowed down a bit this night, especially knowing the next day was travel day. Still, we wanted a special goodbye meal. Ocean Grill is right on the strand at 20th Street, so you have lovely views of the sea and sky. We've been here by day, but also at night, so we know the scenery. It was just sundown as we arrived. We were given a table right along the strand, which was very accommodating. Our server knew we were celebrating special occasions and acknowledged it. They have an extensive wine list. We chose a half bottle of the Groth 2019 Cabernet, which was priced at $90, meaning after tax and mandatory service charge it would cost almost $120. It was an excellent choice, providing basically 2 glasses of wine for each of us. We went a little lighter with food this night, knowing it was our last. My wife had the Greek salad and I had the Caesar, which was the full-on version (i.e., the true version), complete with hearty romaine, cheese shavings, croutons, and whole anchovies. Both salads were superb. My wife had the whole Bronzino and I had the 7 ounce Wagyu skirt. These dishes came with small trimmings, so we added the grilled Brussel sprouts. All were excellent and perfectly prepared. We were offered dessert, but we opted to pass. Again, we did not want to over do it on the day before traveling. Here we got a surprise. We were comped the wine given our special occasion. This was really generous and quite a shocking treat. Dinner would have been about $300, but without the wine was under $175, which included tax and service charge, which we doubled and paid $200 to show our gratitude for the excellent food, service, and gracious complimentary wine. To those who may think my 5-star rating was due to the generous gift of the wine, I can understand. However, it's not the case. You can look at the other Miami Beach restaurants I reviewed this week and see they all are relatively pricey, meaning they are comparable as to costs, etc. Resort-area dining is going to typically be more expensive, so I'm reviewing a level playing field. Even without the wine being comped, this restaurant is at least a 4 in every way, though see their average is less than that, which I find surprising. I didn't read the other reviews to compare and that would not influence me either, nor change our experience. As indicated, we've probably dined here five times over the past three years and not a single meal was disappointing. They were all at least 4 stars or 5 stars. Tonight was a 5-star night and would be so regardless of the wine being comped. That was just icing on the cake, so to speak, but certainly indicates the classiness of this establishment. read more

My husband and I walked by Ocean Grill last night so we stopped and made a reservation because everything looked amazing. We arrived a little bit early and they set us at a two top table, which is right by the window, which was super uncomfortable. I think they just placed those tables there to have extra tables anyway we ordered two drinks and a shrimp cocktail. All of those came out fine shrimp cocktail was delicious. Waiter didn't return again for another 35 minutes to place our dinner order. We noticed him at a few other tables. He was deboning fish, which I understand however he should've taken our order. We placed our order for a strip steak and two sides, brussels sprouts mashed potatoes took about 15 minutes and they all came out ice cold so we sent them back manager came over didn't really apologize just kinda asked what was wrong. We told him he said they would remake the food and they gave my husband a glass of wine on the house. We got the food. It was fine mediocre at best still not boiling hot but at that point, our meal really had already been ruined because we were sitting there for too long in such a high-end establishment. They really should treat the customers a little bit better and do something for them, especially if the entire meal comes out cold we probably won't go back again. A very posh but beautiful setting right on the beach. This was one of those restaurants that we just happened to stumble upon while walking on the path. We wanted to get a drink and a little bite to eat so we hopped in and we're seated right away. There was a person who brought us our waters. Unfortunately it was hot out and we kept drinking them pretty fast but it took them a little bit of time to refill them. That was one of the things that knocked them down a star was that they were not super attentive to refills. When they would come fill our waters , sometimes they would only fill one or two and then leave the rest of our table with empty glasses . The food was decent we just got little dishes. A drink each and three food dishes cost us 200 dollars. So it definitely wasn't a cheap stop in. But the atmosphere was really nice. read more

The restaurant is literally less than 20 feet away from the beach, so the views are just gorgeous overlooking the ocean/sand. Plus the energy/atmosphere of the restaurant is on point as well. Their staff is incredibly friendly, and our server today, Steven, took excellent care of us. As for the food, it was solid. The burger was good, the fries were spectacular, and the Greek sampler with veggies and hummus was good too. The turkey club was just alright. We walked in about 9 pm on a Thursday night and it was full of people which I love. Even though it is located in a very touristy part of town, the quality of the food and service are excellent. We come to Miami each year during my Bday week and 2 of last 3 years have come here for dinner. The 1st time a couple years ago was fantastic, so we booked here again this year for my Bday dinner. Great location. Food was very good. Great atmosphere. What stuck out however was the absolutely horrible service from our server, Nenad V. He couldn't have been more smug and rude if he tried. Throughout the night, we had to get his attention for anything---and I mean anything (ordering, empty alcohol glasses, clearing plates, the check). The worst part was that he consistently acknowledged us but continued to just lean back and chat with different staff, who literally were pointing at our table for him, but he went out of his way to dismiss us. I think this may be a product of the "automatic 20%" inherent in the check, so he literally does not care. The hostesses were great, and acknowledged the birthday on the reservation, but this guy never did at all. Sadly he kind of ruined what we had known to be a great experience. I imagine he's just a bad apple, but it was pretty crappy, so not sure if we'll be back as there are so many great options in the area. My husband deny, an elderly couple, were biking and I didn't feel well because my blood sugar was suddenly low and I needed to eat something. Since we hadn't planned on stopping, we didn't bring bike locks. Even though I felt sick and needed something to eat, they wouldn't let us in with our bikes. The restaurant was 2/3 empty. They wouldn't give me anything to go even though I was feeling ill. Stay away. These people have no heart. read more

First time in Miami Beach and it was the worst time to visit. Cold, windy, and rainy, however, we made the most of it. My friend took me here for lunch and wow let me tell you the seafood pizza was fire. I didn't really try the artichokes or cauliflower, but the pizza was delicious. I suggest sharing with a friend like I did because it is pretty hefty. If you like those tomato sauce based seafood pasta, that is what it is, but pizza form. The staff here are super nice and friendly. If it were nicer out, think it would have been a better moment, but regardless probably one of my favorite spots. We eventually relocated to the bar inside the Setai hotel and the experience was consistently fantastic! Great people, great food, great service. No complaints. I politely informed the server and the manager about the matters for improvement such as dry old bread, Chilean sea bass overcooked, the burrata was simply tasteless and plain; in essence the food was hardly just OK. IMO, you try to ensure a disappointed returning customer finds some satisfaction but nothing, not even an effort to offer something on the house was proposed, which just adds to the very negative experience. We got the grilled lobster with accompanying spaghetti and tagliolini with little neck clams were unimpressive. They tasted.... basic. As if seasoning and butter were foreign concepts. We had reservations booked well in advance but when we got there they put us out on the side of the restaurant across the walkway in an area that was completely separated from the restaurant. We were the only ones seated in this area, everyone else was seated in the actual restaurant. I assume it was based on how we looked, but who knows. What I do know is that everyone else that showed up that they tried to seat there very firmly said "No!" Our mistake for not doing the same. Shame on this restaurant for not honoring reservations for the actual restaurant. Food was just ok. Service was pretty poor, we never saw our server after she dropped the food. They don't care since they tack on an automatic 20% gratuity to all bills, so they are guaranteed gratuity regardless of how poor the service is they provide. I don't mind the added gratuity since it seems like this is standard practice in Miami. What I do mind is that the server makes no mention of it, likely because she hope to profit by us mistakingly leaving another tip. Too many good restaurants here. Find another. read more

Shrimp cocktail was generous but shrimps were slightly warm, cocktail and tartar sauces were both well balanced. My Filet mignon was cooked just right but lacked flavor, half chicken was dry and tasteless. A variety of sauce options can be ordered to accompany each dish . Sides were extra.
