Really enjoyed my experience at Raos. We were staying at Loews and decided to book a reservation a few weeks in advance, after hearing great things on social media. We opted for their summer menu, which comes at a set price and you can select an appetizer, entree, and dessert. The portions are large, if possible I'd share the summer menu. We had the meatballs and Caesar salad as our appetizer. The meatballs are extremely large, definitely shareable. For my main, I got the carbonara and it was excellent. Prompt seating, very punctual. Hasta reservation for 7 and we arrived 10 minutes earlier we were sat in the hall while our table is ready. While we waited, the bartender approached us offered us a drink. We started with Champagne and a beer. We were quickly moved to our table. We started with the meatballs, oysters, Burrata, the seafood salad and the baked clams. The oysters were exceptional. Extremely fresh and just delicious the meatballs and the sauce were also delicious. I would probably would not order the baked clama again, but they were OK and the Burrata, well you can't really go wrong with that. Seafood salad was good as well. Very refreshing enlarge pieces of lobster which give it a nice touch . Then ordered the filet mignon medium rare, the sole with capers and lemon sauce, the chicken, and the veal with the pepper sauce. I would probably pass on the filet mignon. It felt a little dry, just bland. Nothing special. None of the main dishes come with a side so we did order a vodka pasta, a side of asparagus, and a side of a carbonara pasta. The carbonara was very good vodka was fine and a side of asparagus but there's no ruining that. back to the main dishes, the sole was delicious, very fresh with tomatoes and capers. The chicken was also delicious and veal was very tender. on its own, I probably would not order it again, but with the pepper sauce, it was a completely different dish. Overall, the dishes were very large. The service was quick and the ambience was calm with nice background music. Then we decided to order a tiramisu and the peanut butter tart. We thought the peanut butter tart would be too much but boy and I glad that we ordered it. The term tiramisu was very good very nicely served. It was very smooth, not overpowered by any flavor, but the tart really was the star dish along with the oysters tonight. The taste is not overbearing. It is super smooth. First time going to any Rao's and it was a good experience. Servers were kind and detailed in their explanations of the food and history. The space feels like a traditional Italian restaurant with dark lighting and lots of booth seating. We started with the meatballs which were huge and very tender. When an Italian restaurant has red and green drapery and you hear Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra more than once on the sound system, you know it's legit! I've been waiting to check out Rao's since it opened since it's reservation list is allegedly as complex as another well-known New York import Italian restaurant. However, yesterday while enjoying South Beach with my lady friend, after sulking another dolphins loss, we decided to stop it and enjoy their Miami Spice menu. Sidenote, we pregame at their lobby, bar myself with my Cab Sab red and her with her classic Pinot Grigio. Then we entered by their photogenic wine cellar! The portions are huge! I started with the classic meatball appetizer, with a main course sized meatball soaked in a yummy marinara sauce. The plate had two meatballs, perfect for sharing as I also tried her mozzarella sticks (I mean mozzarella carroza). By the time I got to my main course of chicken Parm, I was already stuffed and could barely finish my New York cheesecake dessert, garnished with fresh berries. The chicken Parm itself was tasty, not overly breaded and served with their deliciously robust sauce. The final reason why Rao's gets five stars is the excellent service we received. From the hostess recognizing us when we came back after pregaming at the lobby bar, to our waiter Efren slicing up and preparing sharing plates of the chicken Parm and the lemon chicken she ordered, to even packing up the food instead of having us do the work in to go containers as many restaurants do, was top notch. read more

Went to Rao's Miami after work without a reservation and had such a good experience! We sat at the bar right away, which actually ended up being a great spot -- cozy, lively, and perfect for people-watching while still feeling relaxed. The staff was warm and attentive without being overbearing, and you could tell they really know their regulars, which gave the place that neighborhood-Italian charm. We ordered two pastas to share along with the meatballs. The pesto pasta was the standout for me -- perfectly cooked pasta with a rich, fresh pesto that had just the right balance of flavor. The other pasta was solid as well, and the meatballs were hearty and flavorful (definitely worth ordering). The whole space has an old-school Italian vibe but with Miami energy -- warm lighting, bustling but not overly loud, and a mix of locals and visitors. When I first heard of this place, I immediately thought of the jar of sauce, which is exactly the company who owns this establishment and I've used their sauces before so I had high hopes and they delivered! I love the ambience of the location. It was cozy with dim lighting and played fabulous FrankFrank Sinatra type music. I enjoyed the vibes with a glass of red wine and ordered what the waiter recommended, which was the traditional meatballs and the sautéed shrimp, scampi style. I have to say that was one of the best shrimp scampi's I have ever had. The sauce was so flavorful, buttery, and you can taste the elements of the lemon and garlic with white wine sauce. I would go back just for the shrimp and they were huge. The meatballs were incredibly big as well enough to pack for leftovers, in fact the food portions were huge all around. We did a classic pasta vodka, and chicken Parmesan, which did not disappoint and was one of the best chicken Parmesan on the market. The cheese was melted perfectly. We ended the night with a traditional tiramisu, which was decadent, and I love the presentation in the glass. Ohhh Rao's how much do I want to give you 10 stars. Quick summary: Atmosphere: AMAZING Food: EVEN MORE AMAZING Service from our primary waiter; ehh I was certainly expecting more for a restaurant of this caliber. One improvement could be the layout of tables as there was a woman sitting behind me of smaller size and myself of average size, and we were sitting essentially chair to chair, making it hard to sit down and get up. Food: probably the best Italian food outside of Italy that we have had. Everything was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly and had excellent presentation. Portions are definitely a good size and could be shared by 2 people. So if you are with a group as I was , I recommend getting different items to try and share as opposed to multiple people getting the same thing. Notably ; the shrimp Scampi, meatballs, chicken parm and fish were excellent. The bread was ok, definitely lacked flavor. Dessert: the peanut butter dessert and cheesecake, big enough to share but I am having a hard time to say only get one as they are both "life changing" as the one waiter put it. I cannot remember the last time I got a dessert that I liked this much, outside of Italy. Now for the service: Our primary waiter was nice and overall professional. However, for a restaurant such as this I would expect more attentiveness rather than socializing with the other waiters. For comparison, for every 1 time our waiter was at our table the table behind us, same size had their waiter at their table 5 times checking in. Both were on opposite ends of extreme and I think a balance could have been had for both. We did have to ask more than once for the same items after he confirmed what we wanted, we needed to ask for additional cocktails, and checking in to see how our main course was didn't occur till about half way through of meal. White glove service with an atmosphere that's reminiscent of all New York, and delicious food to top it off! I went to Miami spice week and got such a great deal on their prefix menu! The meatball was incredible, I could've only eaten that and been very happy I also got the lemon chicken, which was good, but it was not seasoned enough, so I needed to ask for salt. As somebody who has lived in the New York area, I was super excited to try this place as it is impossible to get a table in New York City. This restaurant lived up to the hype for me. We got some of the meatballs, which were huge, and really delicious. We also got the chicken Parm, which was very very good, we also got the Ragu which is wonderful. Every single dish was very flavorful very well seasoned and prepared relatively quickly. We also got the Brotto, which was also very very fresh. I recommend coming here and getting the meals family style as you're gonna want to try different dishes make sure you come your hungry though because portions are large and you're gonna want to try different things, the server was extremely friendly and had a great recommendations and really explained the menu to us. He was very honest on how big the portions were. The highlight for me was the table side, espresso, martini probably one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had. The ambiance and decor is very upscale; however, the bar seating did not have purse hooks which was odd but the bar seating was large and comfy so plenty of room to put a bag. Guests ranged from semi casual to very nicely dressed. The staff was in suits. The bartender was very friendly and nice to chat with. We of course got the famous meatball. It honestly was not worth the hype. It was clearly good quality and tasty, mostly tasted like Parmesan (which I love) but I expected something a little more interesting with the flavor for how hyped this place is for the meatball. The pastas were delicious! The ravioli was buttery with sweet notes from the dried cranberries. It was little sacks filled with flavorful ricotta cheese. The sage was not very strong but the overall dish was great. The penne vodka was fine, I just had one earlier in the week that blew my mind. This one was fairly standard. The peanut butter pie thing was DECADENT. Oh my gosh, it was a little salty from the peanut butter but it balanced so well with the sweet and heavy creamy flavors. From the red velvet walls and carpet with white candlelit tablecloths and chandeliers to the impeccably dressed staff, I had high hopes for my meal. I was really excited to try this restaurant because I really do enjoy their sauce brand and buy it regularly. I read the history of the NYC location and was thrilled to experience it here in Miami. The location of this restaurant could not be better. Located in The Lowe's Miami Beach, this hotel is one of the best there is so ambiance (refined, upscale, yet welcoming) and ease of getting there is top notch. We arrived at our reservation time and we were sat really quickly. We dined during the SOBE Food and Wine festival so we actually ran into a few celebrities while there which was super cool! We saw Ja Rule, Bobby Flay, and Guy Fieri (he's kind of a j*^k so didn't ask for his picture). This was a treat and we had high expectations. We shared the appetizers between all 4 of us and it was more than enough. We ordered the fried mozzarella and unfortunately it was not as warm as we would have hoped, borderline cold inside, we would have liked to see very melted cheese when we cut into it and did not. We didn't say anything and gave them a pass. We ordered a Cesar salad which was good, nothing to boast over, but just a good enough Cesar. We ordered the meatballs which were also "good enough". Unfortunately we all (party of 4) felt we've had better elsewhere. The shrimp appetizer was delicious, probably the highlight - due to the delicious sauce they come in. As a main, we had a rigatoni which we shared as portions are large enough for 4, it was good. We also ordered 2 Veal Parmigiana (2 people shared each one) and they were huge. The taste was good, cooked well and they pre sliced it which was nice. We had the prosciutto and peas as a side but had to send them back because they only brought peas - and "forgot" the prosciutto which should be mixed in it. They removed it from our check so definitely made it right.... As dessert, the group shared a cheesecake. The bill was just under $600 with tip which for Miami Beach, upscale restaurant, with wine is not bad at all. **My overall rating is really just based on not being impressed by the food overall. Service was good, ambiance fantastic - so a great option if you're staying near the hotel or in the hotel. The resturaunt itself is nice and well decorated but I didn't feel like the service was up to par for a fine dining restaurant. Started with the MeatBalls, not sure what the hype is at all but they were just average for the pricey tag. Well as a New Yorker born and raised Rao's is one of those mythical restaurants you always pray you can go in and eat a meal at least once in your life. To my surprise we were able to get reservations for two on a Sunday night with little ease. First you walk into the doors and enter the hallway where you see an amazing bar and restaurant you want to sprint into but you have to be cool and walk in calming like you have been here before! We started the night by getting there early to have a drink at the bar. The bar tenders were very professional and friendly who made excellent drinks. We have a gin cosmo with Irish gin powder gin that was absolutely fantastic. We were seated at a great corner table with a lovely wrap around bench. The bread was so fresh and hot I could have ate 3 loafs! To start we have the baked clams that I didn't even take a picture because I couldn't help but dig in and eat every last bite! (Highly recommend) For the main we had chicken parmigiana and chicken scarpariello and rigatoni bolognese! Wow, wow, wow ! The chicken parm was thin, crispy and cooked to perfection! The chicken scarp was sweet and spicy! The pasta cooked to perfection! I was just happy that I was able to get a chance to eat at this staple of New York Italian food in Miami! Had the best time at Rao's Miami Beach. Restaurant is located at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel in the St. Moritz Tower. The interior and decor were well appointed. A big shout-out to Carmen, our server, for making our dining experience very fun and enjoyable. After reading other reviews and going with Carmen's suggestions, we decided to try the Fritto Misto, Seafood Salad and Rao's Traditional Meatballs for appetizers. It was hard to choose a favorite because they were all so good. The meatballs come with two huge meatballs where Carmen split them into four pieces and served us. That was really good, but the seafood salad was my favorite. Lots of seafood in this dish. For main dishes, we got the Rigatoni Bolognese, Veal Marsala and Bone-In Pork Chop (one of their specials for the evening). Their pastas are not homemade, but you couldn't really tell as it sure tasted liked it. The rigatoni dish was divided up by Carmen and served to us on our plates. Again, it was hard to pick a favorite, but the bone-in pork chop was one of the best one I've had, and the veal marsala was so good. You can't go wrong with either one. For dessert, we all agreed the Peanut butter tart was the best dessert and a great way to end the evening. While visiting Miami Beach we had the pleasure and honor of visiting RAO's Restaurant. We had an amazing experience. When we arrived Sarah the host was very nice and welcoming. Once seated, Alexander our server was extremely accommodating and had so much knowledge of the menu and wine list. The food was delectable, savory, and the presentation was customized to the platter in which it was served in. Prince and Yasbel (asst servers) and Jennifer were so friendly and also very accommodating. We were a party of five and we all left completely satisfied with our experience. Classic old school atmosphere with solid service. Unfortunately, the food was less than average at well above average prices. The good: veal piccata, shrimp scampi, and their signature meatballs, The bad: seafood salad and chicken Milanese. Five Cheese Pizza. SUBPAR. An extremely small Brick Oven Pizza with a Thick Crust whose flavor profile needed to be enhanced much more. RAO'S Pizza tastes like Bread and is not worth purchasing. AVOID. read more
