Went for lunch on 8/11 outside since it was a nice day out, open seating was available with no wait which was a plus. My wife and I got seated promptly but were then waiting roughly 15-20 minutes before our server greeted us which was funny because we started playing that game trying to figure out what server was ours before he came over, he was on the patio and if he knew his tables he should of acknowledged us in one of his 3 passing by's. I went for dinner it's been a regular spot my daughter and I enjoy. Excellent service as usual! There was a mistake with my appetizer and it was quickly rectified. Went in for Valentine's day. Had to wait for 20-30 min to order our food. 40 min marked they gave us free bread and butter. entrée came in, rice was undercooked and frozen and no flavor (Ahi tuna). I thought the main course would be good, but no. Ordered the ribeye steak thinking it would have mash potatoes or vegetables at the most. It literally just a steak and I they forgot to add the side (smh). An hour of wait just to be disappointed. I'll give it to them, the steak is cooked well. But I would not say it worth $89 per person just to have one entree, main, and a dessert that you can just buy in stop and shop or Big Y. Service is not good as well. My bow and I had a wonderful birthday dinner for him at this restaurant. First of all, they've done a great job with Covid making the restaurant very safe. I had never been to this restaurant. My boyfriend had mentionmentioned that the food comes out fast. We let the waiter know we were in no rush and he ensured that we had a leisurely dinner. He was great! He ordered the steak and it was presented very well and he said it was very delicious. I had a tomato and mozzarella salad and added salmon. I came here to meet up with a friend to get drinks (for her) and food (for the rest of us). It was very easy to make a reservation online. The restaurant felt safe. There was a large patio area and everyone wore masks. It was a little cold, but they had space heaters. I ordered the Turkey Club as did my brother and we both thought it was excellent! I was sad after I had finished it. My boyfriend got the Tavern Classic Burger wrapped in lettuce and he really enjoyed it as well. He was happy that they wrapped it nicely enough he could pickup the burger. All in all we had a great experience! Was recommended by a friend to come here. She is now in my trusted circle for food!!! Since me and my boyfriend haven't been eating out during quarantine, we splurged at Max's. Everything was so satisfying and you could taste the amount of care that the chef's put into the food. I especially enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Tacos for an appetizer and Beer Battered Polluck as my Entree. There are only two tacos but they are so freakin delicious that it's worth it! The polluck was very tender and nice and crispy on the outside. It tasted so good with all the sides to pair with the fish and french fries to eat for your fish breaks . If you need some veggies in your life, order the squash which comes with yummy curry . I also recommend the Par then Bar (bourbon, sweet tea, lemonade) if you like sweeter drinks. This was so refreshing and perfect for a hot day. Due to Covid-19 Times, only outdoor seating was available. But it gave me the opportunity to take glorious pictures in the sun. All workers were wearing face shields or masks and each table was pretty well spaced. The only thing I complain about are the leather seats during the spring/summer. It was so hot and uncomfortable sitting on the seat that me and my boyfriend were eating while standing up . Only giving this place 4 stars because it was a bit pricey. A little disappointed with our experience solely because of all the hype around this place. Went in on a busy weekend night and waited for a table. Our server ally I believe, was very busy yet very down to earth. Although she couldn't answer a few of our questions on the menu, she helped us pick a few dishes that we ended up splitting. We sadly didn't like our cocktails but because of how busy it was we just sucked em down instead of making a fuss to avoid waiting for new ones. Decided to give it another try and have had several positive experiences since then. They have a great happy hour menu! The food is well prepared and seasoned well. One of my favorites for happy hour. My friend loves the "buck a shuck" special on Mondays. I'm not a fan so my standard is usually the Mac and cheese side and a martini. Tonight was no exception. Having visited, and really enjoyed, two other Max's locations in Connecticut we decided to give it a try. Spent a good part of the day at the MGM Springfield Casino and then we traveled the short distance to the Basketball Hall Of Fame. No, we were too hungry to spend time looking at basketball trophies or pics of tall guys in too short shorts. Max's Tavern is adjacent to the entrance of the BBHOF. Cutting to the chase..... Made our reservation on Yelp and we were seated promptly upon arriving. Service was friendly and there was just the right amount of time between courses. Shrimp cocktails to start. Perfect temperature. Great sauce. Large shrimp. Filet Mignon was very tasty. Swordfish ordered simply grilled as opposed to the other version on the menu that would have been served with what I felt would have just masked the true taste of one of my favorite cuts of gems from the sea. Asparagus side with onion jam was a winner my friends. Cocktails from the full bar were generous pours. Plenty of free parking. I am very tired nurse who called the restaurant to get some to go food for supper. The girl who helped me order was so helpful. She even went through the salad selection and told me what they had for vegetables and what I might like . I have never found anyone who went out of their waylike that to help me . When I went to pick up my food, she met me at the door and called me by name. The hostess name was Lillie. I have to say my interaction with Lily was worth the drive to get my dinner. I have been to Max's Tavern several times over the years. I can say that Max's is one of my go-to places in Springfield. It is conveniently located by the Basketball Hall of Fame and it is a good meeting place for dinner with friends from both sides of the CT river. The cuisine & menu at Max's is classic upscale American. Steak and seafood are featured prominently. On my last meal there we shared appetizers of delicious Cape Cod oysters and fried calamari. Both appetizer dishes were exceptional and better than average. I especially enjoyed the oysters. For my main course order, last night, I had the salmon which was delicious. On past visits, I have ordered the NY strip steak many times and it has always been very good. We skipped desserts during my last meal but they have always been reliable at Max's too. The service on my last visit and all visits was better than average. During COVID all regulations were followed and we had a safe experience. Prices and value at Max's are in line with what you would expect at a higher-end steak and seafood joint. Last night we met our son for dinner at Max's. Unfortunately we had a medical emergency before we could eat our meals so I can't speak to the food. But the response of the staff was unbelievable. The food was very good, a lot better than expected. The Cheese Biscuits - provided as the bread basket - were exquisite. The Wagyu Steak Burger is very good if you are looking for something extra-meaty, kale salad with shrimp was great, fish and chips were very good and everything was overall really tasty! The service was amazing as everything came within fifteen minutes and the waitress was very nice only on her second day! The food was absolutely terrible. The French onion soup had no flavor, onions were caramelized at all, no enough cheese and the croutons were still hard. I ordered the tavern burger, which came with onion, and the onions on the burger were ice cold, straight from the refrigerator, which brought the whole burger to barely lukewarm. My mother's salmon was so salty is was almost inedible. The server was wonderful the entire time as was the manager. My complaint lies solely with he kitchen staff. We are big fans of the Max group. Have never been to Max Tavern before but decided to stop en route to Vermont. The service was abhorrent. Barely saw our waiter. We sat outside and had to ask other servers or walk in (x 3) for assistance on things like - could we have some Mayo ..... waited forever to get our check. When the manager brought the check she asked how things were and I said ok except for the service and she shot me a nasty look and said "thanks for telling me". Not I'm sorry for that - not is there anything we can do for you. Horrible. Will never come here again and I hope this is not a trend for the max group. read more

This is a typical tavern style burger place . First off fix your fries !!! Broken bits 4 orders ? 3 strikes your out. The waitstaff was amazing the manager looked pre occupied on 3 occasions over the course of 2 hours . She wasn't busy just pre occupied while the staff worked with a smile. The food was not at all good . Server made up for it. I would not ever recommend this place unless your going to get a cocktail in a bottle. The flatware was dirty as well as the furniture. The manager who sat us didn't take notice. I cleaned the booth myself!! I went to look for her however she was chatting with someone maybe anther manager in the center of the dining room . Could not care at all that I had waved her over and stood for too long waiting for her attention. Great place. Awesome location next to the NBA Hall of fame. It is my 1st time here and I loved it. Booked my reservation through open table walked in and was seated without any issues. Drinks were a bit strong. I had a strawberry margarita on the rocks. Taste like a lot of tequila but it was okay. My steak came out promptly and was DELICIOUS juices flowing onto the plate cooked per my request and my baked potato well it was a potato not much to say about that. The calamari is spicy but yummy! The best part of our meal were the rolls and butter. We stopped here instead of Uno's based off online reviews. Nothing, NOTHING had flavor. The drinks tasted watered down and the food was overcooked (even our server noted that the steak was medium-well instead of medium-rare). There was NO flavor to anything...truly bland. When we alerted our servers, two of them, there were apologies and an offer to get another dish but it would not be rushed to the front of the ticket line, so we had to decline that as we needed to get back on the road and had already been sitting over 30 minutes waiting for food. That was the only offer to remedy, nothing was discounted or removed from the bill. A $109 dinner. Truly disappointed. I have worked in Food&Hospitality for 20 years...I understand how it all works, and so we still tipped our servers 20% in cash because they didn't make the drinks or food. A group of six of us had dinner here last week while in town on business. We were seated in a small private area near the bar. I had the swordfish chop, which was absolutely amazing. It was cooked perfectly and had a bed of shiitake mushrooms. One of the others had a perfectly cooked steak that looked and smelled amazing. Everyone at the table really enjoyed their meals, including one who had several allergies. The server was very attentive to her, and made sure that her food was properly prepared and served to her.
