The lobster roll is absolutely amazing! There's so much lobster in it that we got an extra roll and my husband and I split it. The onion strings are to die for!

We were looking for a spot to get a lobster roll while we were traveling through the area, and we chose Captain Jack's. It was DELICIOUS! So good and so glad we stopped. The roll was packed with lobster, and the fries were great too. You order at the window, and all the tables and seating are outside. They call your name when your order is ready. We didn't have to wait too long, and it was a beautiful day so it was nice to sit outside. Definitely stop here for a lobster roll!

One of my requests during my visit to Massachusetts was to visit this place. We lucked out and it was empty. Plenty of outdoor seating and no line. I knew I wanted the lobster roll. My husband went a little crazy and ordered fish tacos and fish and chips as well. Daughter in law had the clam sandwich. So much food! Expensive but I feel like it was worth it. Quality seafood. Delicious! Perfect visit. So glad we came.

They didn't have clams at Captain Jack's Roadside shack because prices had gone up 70% last week, so I settled for the best lobster roll I've ever had, anywhere. The onion rings also were the best, thin, sweet, crispy. My lemonade too! I have had lobster rolls from Maine to Rhode Island, but this beat them all. Why? Generosity. The sweet lobster meat was loaded onto a buttery roll then placed on top of a pile of the most delicate onion rings imaginable. The guys inside the shack deserve applause.

There's a certain romanticism behind the idea of being in New England, stopping by a roadside seafood shack, ordering a Lobster Roll and sitting outside while enjoying the Summer breeze. Actually, that's probably on a lot of people's bucket list. I only recently found out about this place thanks to Yelp, but it was a little confusing because even though there was a sign for Captain Jacks, we couldn't visibly see it from the roadside. All you could see was the River Valley Co-Op, and even while driving around the parking lot, we had to ask someone to find out that it was located behind the building. An additional sign in the parking lot would've been helpful. You form a line and order at the window and wait for your number to be called. Depending on what you order, it could be a good deal or very expensive. On this visit a lobster roll was $30 and it came with hand cut fries. I never finished the roll even though I ate from it and both my mom and dad ate from it too. The scallops were good but being a Floridian and having had many scallops in my lifetime, this wasn't the best I've had but again, it was good. We also had the fish and chips and those were just ok. I wish the fish had been a little bit more crispy, or maybe that's the NE way? I think the little onion rings were better than the fries. Overall the food to me was just ok. The ambience and setup they have is very nice, especially on a cool summer day. I could see myself coming back here sometime if I were in the area.

    An amazing lobster roll!

Sunday lunch at Captain Jacks exceeded all expectations! Went there for the lobster roll substituted onion rings for fries. The Lobster roll easily had enough lobster to make rolls, delicious and so generous on the portions. The onion rings where thin shoestring which I absolutely love. Jacks is in a small building, with outdoor seating only which is shared with neighboring Ri er Valley Coop; the dining area is covered which is nice as it was very sunny the day we were there. I will be back again!

Seriously fresh and delicious lobster rolls! Light mayo so the flavor of lobster really shines through. The buttered up roll compliments the lobster's flavor! Service was quick. Also you can choose to eat outside or inside the Co-op. And there's clean restrooms and plenty of parking. Definitely coming back !

What can you say ? Hands-down my favorite lobster roll ever. But that is just the beginning. The onion straws/rings are out of this world. They are worth the trip by themselves. Keep up the good work love this place.

We were in the seafood mood. Decided on a stop at captain jacks roadside stand in easthampton. Great open outdoor seating with plenty of picnic tables and covered with "sails". It's a walk up and order type of place. I ordered a lobster roll with onion strings instead of hand cut fries and a clam basket. I was a bit hesitant for the $60 I paid but I must say....well worth it. The presentation was impressive for a clam shack. The lobster roll was overflowing with tail and claw meat in a delicate mayonnaise blend. Not too much....served with a nice wedge of lemon. No it wasn't fresh lobster but being 120 miles from the coast what can you expect? The volume of this nicely grilled roll with green leaf lettuce was more than worth the price. I had to knock off lobster just to pick up the roll to eat it. The onion strings melted in my mouth. So good. The clam plate ($27) was just as delicious. Perfectly cooked whole belly clams with hand cut fries, slaw and tartar sauce....of course a side of lemon wedge. This was a larger portion and cheaper than what cape cod prices were. Staring at Mt. Tom in the distance was just as satisfying as staring at a waterfront. The portions are worth the prices. Great outdoor seating area. Also very good non seafood options.

I ordered fried clam dinner. The fries were cold, the clams were gross. 35.00 paid for a meal that truly was gross

Above average all around. No complaints in any way. This is a food shack next to a co-op. They go well above expectations.

    Is the food fried?

Some is and some is not- you could probably call them and they could be more specific about non-fried choices

    Do they have fried shrimp?

I don't think so, but, why would you want shrimp in Mass? Get the the lobster, it is local, fresh and...amazing!

No! Soda, Lemonade and Iced Tea.

And it was all so incredibly delicious. Props to the chef, hands down. I opted for the high tops when making the 8:00P reservation and it was still busy at that time which was great for them. I do wish I'd have known the size of their high top as I might have chosen a different table but it was still great. Our server was very nice, I wish I remembered her name! We got there around 1:40 p.m. and they closed at 2, so my friend was a little worried, but we were still welcomed and the staff was very friendly. It's a small place, but I actually liked that it felt cozy. We ordered 12 oysters, two orders of gumbo, a kale Caesar salad, the catfish special to split, and a bourbon-based drink. The oysters were $2 each, which I thought was a pretty good deal. The gumbo was really, really good. It came out a little lukewarm, but the flavor was absolutely there 10/10. The oysters were fresh and also 10/10. The bourbon drink was another standout. The presentation was beautiful, the little flower was such a nice touch, and it tasted just as good as it looked. The kale Caesar was where things dipped a little. It was pretty dry, so we asked for extra dressing, but the dressing didn't really add much flavor. When our waitress checked in, we were honest and said it just wasn't our favorite. I hate sending food back or complaining. I'll usually just stop eating it but she was so kind and apologetic. What really stood out was how they handled it. They told us they were taking the salad off the bill, which they absolutely did not have to do. We had planned to just take the one we had already eaten from home and fix it ourselves, but one of the staff members made us a completely new salad to go. She even massaged the kale so it was actually tender and enjoyable. That was such a thoughtful touch. The catfish was a hit for my friend. It wasn't my favorite, but I still ate it. Overall, I would definitely come back. Next time I'd probably keep it simple; oysters, gumbo, and a drink and I'd be happy. The service was phenomenal, and honestly, service really makes a place. Feeling welcomed and comfortable matters, and this place absolutely gave that.

The outdoor setting was beautiful, with greenery creating a relaxed summer vibe and live music playing under a small tent, adding to the atmosphere. Our server was equally delightful--friendly, attentive, and spot-on with recommendations. Now, the food: outstanding. We started with the beets and peas salad, which was bursting with flavor--our plates were practically licked clean. The house arugula salad was crisp, fresh, and perfectly balanced with a light, lemony vinaigrette. For mains, we shared the roasted half chicken and the bucatini. Both were phenomenal. I rarely order chicken at restaurants since it often feels too plain, but this one was perfection--crispy skin, juicy meat, and seasoning that carried through every bite. The bucatini, made with homemade pasta and loaded with crispy pancetta, was absolutely irresistible. We couldn't resist finishing with the "Little Mason Jar" dessert, which was indulgent and delicious. Everything--from the service to the food to the ambiance--was exceptional. And though I can't guarantee that the town was so vibrantly and unapologetically queer nearly 30 years ago when our paths diverged, I can say that in 2025 it was completely my vibe. Though lesbianest - it def was. After Dinosaur Footprints, my trio needed to grab some lunch. They spoke highly of Local Bar and what a delicious choice it was. They have a nice lineup of preconfigured burgers - the teriyaki seems to be a local favorite - or you can build your own. The best is that you can have a beef, turkey, or veggie burger with any style. Unfamiliar meat sometimes sends me running to the baño and I still had a 3 hr drive up to NH. So I opted for the Farmhouse style burger with a veggie patty. It came with cheddar cheese, bacon, and our house maple mayo. I told you maple is my fave flavor. Excellent decision - the server even complimented my choice lol. The veggie patty was homemade with mushrooms and other grains - texture was elite and the umami was palpable throughout. It also didn't fall apart in my hands as other veggie patties are prone to do. I also got an order of fries but this is completely a place where you could get a burger and skip the sides and be satisfied. My dining companions were more in the know in this area so we shared the fries. Free refills too which thrilled me to no end as I strongly dislike nickel and diming on drinks. Parking can be a challenge in this town - but since it's Pride Month the rainbow gods were shining on us and we found 2 spots right next to each other just around the corner from the spot.
