And not just claws like some places this was all solid lobster meat. $30 with fries- wish we remembered to opt for the onion straws (next time). Lobster was tender and flavorful with not an over abundant amount of mayo just the tiniest bit to hold everything together and it was tender, flavorful, and overall delicious. I've coming here for a few years already and finally decided to officially review it. Whole belly clams are plump and juicy and the fish tacos are delicious. Plus you get two tacos per order. What a deal! I love the contrast between the cold crunchy cabbage/cilantro and hot crispy fish. The belly platter comes with a small side of coleslaw and fries but you can substitute the fries for the onion rings for only $.50 more. It's worth it! Their haystack style onion rings are super skinny and tasty. Portions are generous too! Lobster rolls are great with nice large lump and claw meat. However, I would recommend to go when the lobsters are in season between June and December so the meat is sweeter. There's a certain romanticism behind the idea of being in New England, stopping by a roadside seafood shack, ordering a Lobster Roll and sitting outside while enjoying the Summer breeze. Actually, that's probably on a lot of people's bucket list. I only recently found out about this place thanks to Yelp, but it was a little confusing because even though there was a sign for Captain Jacks, we couldn't visibly see it from the roadside. All you could see was the River Valley Co-Op, and even while driving around the parking lot, we had to ask someone to find out that it was located behind the building. An additional sign in the parking lot would've been helpful. You form a line and order at the window and wait for your number to be called. Depending on what you order, it could be a good deal or very expensive. On this visit a lobster roll was $30 and it came with hand cut fries. I never finished the roll even though I ate from it and both my mom and dad ate from it too. The scallops were good but being a Floridian and having had many scallops in my lifetime, this wasn't the best I've had but again, it was good. We also had the fish and chips and those were just ok. I wish the fish had been a little bit more crispy, or maybe that's the NE way? I think the little onion rings were better than the fries. Overall the food to me was just ok. The ambience and setup they have is very nice, especially on a cool summer day. I could see myself coming back here sometime if I were in the area. read more

They didn't have clams at Captain Jack's Roadside shack because prices had gone up 70% last week, so I settled for the best lobster roll I've ever had, anywhere. The onion rings also were the best, thin, sweet, crispy. My lemonade too! I have had lobster rolls from Maine to Rhode Island, but this beat them all. Why? Generosity. Well well well. We found it. On a trip back from an anniversary night in Burlington, VT we drove back home and randomly stumbled upon this restaurant. It had some of the best seafood we had ever had. Sunday lunch at Captain Jacks exceeded all expectations! Went there for the lobster roll substituted onion rings for fries. The Lobster roll easily had enough lobster to make rolls, delicious and so generous on the portions. The onion rings where thin shoestring which I absolutely love. The clams, scallops, lobster roll all were good but the French fries were not. They were thin, limp and greasy. The onion rings were onion strings, just delicate threads of batter. No it wasn't fresh lobster but being 120 miles from the coast what can you expect? The volume of this nicely grilled roll with green leaf lettuce was more than worth the price. I had to knock off lobster just to pick up the roll to eat it. The onion strings melted in my mouth. So good. The clam plate ($27) was just as delicious. Perfectly cooked whole belly clams with hand cut fries, slaw and tartar sauce....of course a side of lemon wedge. This was a larger portion and cheaper than what cape cod prices were. I stopped today for some whole belly clams and fish and chips. Man who took my order was polite and friendly. Order took about 8-10 mins to cook. The fries were underwhelming but edible. Cole slaw was good. The fish was kind of dry but not over cooked - the breading was a little soggy. The whole bellys had a different taste. Not necessarily spoiled but not really fresh. Odd aftertaste which I thought may be the oil not being fresh. About an hour later, both me and my lady had diarrhea. I'm not positive it was the food, could have been the Dunkin coffee. OK, everything I've had here is delicious--fish fry, hot dogs, crispy chicken sandwich, fries, slaw-- but honestly, my #1 favorite thing on the menu? The thing I dream about and will come here just for? The onion rings. I feel like "rings" is a smidge inaccurate because they are cut so finally that the only thing keeping them from being "strings" or shoelace style is they somehow manage to (mostly) remain intact end-to-end. They are fried perfectly, seasoned perfectly, and are utter heaven for people who like salty crispy light things. Also: servings are ridiculously generous, you can bring your own beer, the picnic tables closer to the trees are in shade and there's a view of the Mt Tom/Holyoke range, and it's all set back far enough from the road to feel peaceful. OMG! This place has THE BEST seafood! Their LOBSTER ROLLS seem like they have TWO LOBSTERS in them! Their ONION RINGS are thin & crispy, and DELICIOUS. Did road trip to pick up something in the area and saw this on yelp. Reviews were generally positive so figure we give it a try. Look at how generous of the portion. We paid $22 vs when we were up in Maine a few years ago and paid $20 lobster roll on a hot dog roll with barely any lobster meat which was full of mayo and no fries. Now on to the taste test - The lobster meat was amazing with just enough of mayo and the bread was soo buttery that it melts in your mouth as we took each bite. Normally I am not fan of homemade fries because they are too thick. But this fries were like shoestring fries and it has a perfect texture of crunchy and starch.
