Nice hometown pub. Some of the entrees could use some work. A bit uninspired. The wings are great though.

The ambiance is nice here. They were all decked out for St Patrick's Day and it was super festive. The food on the other hand definitely needs work. We started with the onion rings and there were awesome! It's stops there! I had a fish special and it was a plain piece of fish with some lemon on it. Super boring! The mashed potatoes and bowl of lettuce that came with it were fine. My friend got a chicken special that had sauce on sauce! Two paper thin pieces of chicken with a sweet glaze and then a creamy sauce over it. Weird. They also got the au gratin potatoes and enjoyed them. Dessert was a super fail. We got an apple crisp that looked beautiful but the apples were big, undercooked chunks and barely any crumb topping. We also had the chocolate parfait which was ice cream with a splatter of chocolate sauce. I may give it another try if someone else wanted to go, but I am not in a hurry to go back. We went to dinner last night. Food was very bland and not what we expected from the reviews. Our food was poor. She threw stuff on the table didn't lay it down. She messed up our order. Took our food plates out very disrespectfully and also had a little bit of an attitude. We stopped in on or way to Vermont and was glad to be able to get in. We were really hungry and they fit the bill. The food was good and the service was excellent. My steak was cooked perfectly. I also enjoyed the clam chowder. read more

Tavern is our go to spot in Westfield for quality food and service. I usually opt for the onion soup but chose the prime rib sandwich instead. In retrospect, I should have stayed with the onion soup. Although flavorful, the prime rib was not cut in slices but very small portions making me feel like it was leftover from the roast. Served with au jus and fantastic fries but again, not really prime rib. I don't have a pix due to faulty iPhone camera but next time. Ambiance is very clean and up to date with spectacular high ceilings dating back to the days when it was the Westfield Post Office. Prices are very fair. If you haven't been give it a try. So this is my second time here, definitely gonna be my last... the first experience was mid at very best, the service both times was good... this time around though is unacceptable... I ordered the nachos with chili, the chili was ok, but the pico de gallo was an abomination, the lack of any sort of lime or salt was bad enough, then mix in some Italian spices and herbs and that's their pico, and the main thing people look for when getting nachos is cheese, these had like 5 crumbs of cheese, it made my brain hurt, like, put on some cheese and that would make the awful pico and mid chili better... the atmosphere is great, what a great building, it's to bad it's wasted on this place read more

Good "old school" restaurant and bar. A true gem in Downtown Westfield, MA. Friendly staff and great service.

Ok, the restraint was open with tall ceilings and spacious. The wait staff was friendly and spot on making sure your waters are full, and checking to see if you need anything else. The food was good and good size portions. Now I would have given them 5 stars but my daughter who has a gluten allergy ordered the gluten free pasta which has a $3 up charge and comes with a soup or salad. We asked to substitute that for the mashed potatoes which were less$$$ . They could have been accommodating on this one small thing, it would have gone a long way in customer satisfaction. I might eat here again but will probably try some other local spots to see if they are more accommodating. read more

I had the grilled pork chops with scalloped potatoes. Two very nice sized pork chops served with a salad, apple sauce and freshly baked rolls. The food was presented nicely, but I thought it lacked flavor. The pork chops could have used some spices, a crust of some type (blue cheese or even bread crumb), or a marinade, and the potatoes could have used some cheese or other flavor enhancer. They have a decent number of draught beers. The bar is centrally located in the dining area, which is designed very nicely. This place is probably a great weekend hangout. read more

I had the baked stuffed scrod, beef barley soup, crab cakes and penne. The fish was moist and the stuffing was very tasty. The soup was loaded with beef. The crab cakes came 3 to an order. I could only eat 1 and took the rest home. Large portions of everything!! read more

Went in today in accompany with a service dog, not a comfort dog. The woman manager told me I had to leave because Massachusetts just passed a law saying that only seeing eye dogs are allowed in places that the public is welcome. Untrue, and a lie. It is the law of the land that peoples with disabilities are allowed in public places with their service animal. This manager is very uninformed and has no sympathy for those under the umbrella of the A.D.A. Americans with Disabilities Act. Very unprofessional, and ignorant on her part. I gave her a copy of the law,and she still said that Massachusetts only allows seeing eye dogs. Do Not! go here if you have a disability. read more

Went here tonight for the first time. We went to the restaurant and did not venture into the bar tonight. The restaurant and bar are separated so whether you are looking for a quiet place to have dinner and conversation, or a more casual atmosphere, it seems they have what you are looking for. Our waitress was courteous and very pleasant as was the rest of the waitstaff. The food... omg the food. Delicious! I had the clam chowder, and the pasta with hot sausage and ricotta, both were absolutely phenomenal. My husband had the fish and chips special which he said was very fresh. You will not leave hungry as the portions are quite generous. The menu has a lot of options; something for everyone. We are already looking forward to going back! read more

My wife and I have visited the Tavern about once a month and have always been comfortable with that time frame I normally will order a sandwich and a couple of beers for myself but my wife normally selects one of the specials which are posted nightly. We have found the food good and the staff knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with. Some remodeling was in progress so we haven't been there in a few weeks but it must be done by now so I guess we are due to have a visit down there pretty soon. I had probably driven by this building a million times when I lived in Southampton. I don't think it registered with me too much. Looked like a bar more then a restaurant. Well, It's actually a very nice restaurant with a bar. Nice atmosphere. Not loud. Very good food. Awesome Tapioca!!!!! Burger was very good! Ate at bar due to dinner time and all tables were full. No big deal for us. Bartenders very attentive & friendly. Stuffed mushrooms for appetizers (very good) had Surf & Turf (Sirloin steak) Paid extra for broiled scallops $18 Worth it !!! Ordered steak medium & came out well done. Still great flavor & tender. This is a great New England spot! I love this type of restaurant. The building was a former use building, I believe a post office, so you are dining or drinking (they have a great bar, I'll be back after covid!) in an atypical space. The food here is great from prime rib to pasta or even pub fare! (Gotta love alliteration). The location is easy, on the town green and parking is there or off route 20! The service is always great and friendly. There are very few places where all my kids agree to go to eat, but this is one of them! Their gravies and sauces are great! Their chopped sirloin is wonderful and not something I would choose normally- but the mushroom sauce! I love their marinara and marsala too! The best item was (Thursday?) prime rib! All is good here. Never fails to please. This place, housed in a historic 1910 former post office, has it all. Great staff, well prepared meals and ambiance. Tonight, we had dinner with family, and it was flawless. Our waitress "Grace" is a dream come true for a restaurant owner. Her personality and attentiveness are unsurpassed. The owner is fortunate to have her. Sitting there, in this beautiful setting, enjoying our meals that included a veal francaise, prime rib, and a simple blue burger was a truly special evening. All the meals were delicious and perfectly seasoned, and the service was second to none. While we didn't partake in the bar, my wife ordered an espresso martini with a special request, and the bartender actually came to our dining room seating for clarification....unheard of. In Westfield, there are like 3 good restaurants, The Tavern is one of them. I know when I come here with my family I'll get top notch food and drinks at affordable pricing. I've had many fantastic dinners here and you always get a good bang for your buck. Typically with each entrée you order, you get a soup or salad and bread rolls with butter on the side. This makes it worth your money. I usually get a caeser salad with anchovies. This is one of the only places I know that offer anchovies and it really adds delicious touches of saltiness and flavor. Every time I come here it's a different experience. Some of my go-to appetizers are: artichoke franchise, bone-in buffalo wings, and baked mushrooms. All are very good and consistently on point. The menu has great variety, but I try to order the specials when I come here. The cheese ravioli and pistachio crusted salmon are the two best dishes I have ever had here, both were specials. Sometimes they repeat their specials, you can check on Facebook or just call. I hope they have the cheese ravioli again! I highly recommend the Tavern, you won't be disappointed if you come here. read more

Disappointing dinner this past weekend. People seem to love this place (it was crowded), so maybe it was just an off night for them. Unfortunately after our experience we won't be returning. Pros - French onion soup was good, buffalo chicken dip was tasty (but nothing you can't make in the slow cooker at home). Cons - Dinner rolls were stale. Chicken parm was rubbery. My caesar salad with steak was under-seasoned and bland. There's just nothing exceptional about this place. It also has a strange atmosphere--lots of Italian decor and fake hanging plants. Up the road is the Westwood, which has similar offerings but everything is done better there. I can't recommend the Tavern. read more

We went for dinner and it was so good we went back for lunch the next day. The scallops were cooked to perfection and they had augratin potatoes as a special side and they were excellent. The lunch special was prime rib and it was also excellent. I thought it was very reasonable. Their rolls are delicious. The wait staff is very nice. They have a bar next door - we didn't stop in but could hear live music when we had dinner. Very cool building. Big parking lot behind made parking very easy. read more

You have to try this place. There is a large bar area with tv's if you're looking for casual or a dining room if you're looking for more intimate. Either way you can't miss. Tonight I had the chicken Francais. It was delicious. 2 nice sized pieces of chicken in light lemon sauce. It comes with soup or salad and a side. It's too much for one meal and it's delicious. My husband had the veal Marsala. Equally delicious and plentiful. You can't beat this place for the price and quantity. It's like getting 2 meals for the price of one. We were in town for a sporting event and looking for a decent sit down restaurant. Definitely hit the jackpot with this place. My daughter is a picky eater and she thoroughly enjoyed the herb marinated chicken. I ordered the marsala and my husband the prime rib and the food was delicious and plentiful. Let's say we certainly did not need potato skins as an app but we weren't sorry because they were tasty. They do NOT skimp on the bacon! Dinner included salad and rolls. When you emerge from the hallway you are in the restaurant without a clear sense of what to do next. The host didn't make us feel welcome. Not rude, just not welcoming. Food - comfort food with amazingly bland flavoring. Cant complain - other than to express disappointment. We had bland chicken Alfredo with broccoli. And slightly over cooked Veal Parm. I do recommend the roman garlic bread. Yesssss. It is as advertised and large! Picture included with this review. Environment - not a very large dining room.
