Lucky Strike is one of our favorite local places. Lucky Strike is a piece of the America we think of and long for in the current world of Chain Eateries. The place is cozy dinner style they serve breakfast all day and have a Dinner style menu. Even have Counter Dinning or Booths. The staff are always friendly, personable and attentive. Their chicken soup is always on point. This time my wife after a long day at work went for a BTL Deluxe and substuted the fries for a salad and cold slaw. The salad was that classic salad you grew up with. Lettuce chopped with carrots sticks, cherry tomatoes, red onion and radish. With a choice of dressings. I went for their Broasted chicken that's chicken fried in a pressure cooker. It's phenomenal. Broasted chicken never misses the mark. So in recap the Lucky Strike is a trip to the restaurants that your folks took you and you know there is something for everyone. And you might run into a neighbor or two. read more

Been awhile...last time several years ago, pre-Yelp reviewing. Was in the area, so.... stopped in for lunch. First, ample parking in their private lot in the back. My server, Robin, has been here 35 years, and the restaurant opened in 1948 (celebrating 75 years this coming March). Lots of interesting specials, but opted for an old lunch standard, turkey club on white toast. It met my expectations. Comes w fries (a very generous amount) and coleslaw. Coffee was bottomless. I had some extra time in my day, so I took my 10 year old son and 5 year old daughter to one of my old favorites. Still, they knock it out of the park. My son and daughter were loving the spaghetti, pancakes, and bacon. My son also got a vanilla milkshake which he claims was "the best ever". My burger was decent, though I wished that it was thicker and hand-formed. Our food arrived in good time, and the waitress was quick to refill my coffee. We will most certainly return. read more

Most people know this place as a breakfast place but sometimes yes they do lunch & this one managed to get a couple of things & results/photos will show you why. First one I selected was a BBQ burger with sauce, onion rings on it & side of fries & also had Buffalo wings (ten-piece & man you see this you're going to wonder how did I take it all). Burger was well done & sauce was there plus the onion rings were fried & that caught me slightly off guard & when the order came I gave to the delivery driver the two blue cheese stuff since I hate it anyway plus didn't want to toss it out. I was a regular client there until around three or four years ago because the food was good and the prices were reasonable. I have been there once since that time for the simple reason that they eliminated some of the soups and foods I enjoyed and the prices soared!! Out of curiosity I checked the website today and was shocked to see some of the outrageous prices!! I mean $20 for spaghetti and other Italian dishes. Nearby Boston Bay has the same dishes which are much better and served in HUGE portions from anywhere from $5 to as much as $8 cheaper! Check their website if you don't believe me!! In some cases, the prices they charge are in excess of what more upscale restaurants charge like Longhorn and even Niney Nine!! My advice to anyone thinking to go there is to check the menu online before making the trip there!! read more

My wife and I were heading out for a day trip and decided to stop in for breakfast. We had been here a few months ago and were not as pleased as we had been years ago. Service was good, but the food (lunch) was not what we were expecting. Being a local business, we decided to give it another shot. We were not disappointed. As I said, we were there for breakfast. We were warmly greeted and seated immediately. The hostess left us menus and returned with coffee immediately. When we said we were still deciding, she left us for a long enough time to choose from the ample menu. My wife ordered eggs and toast with bacon. I order the hash and eggs. Each came with home fries. The orders came out quickly and had ample portions. Everything was hot. The eggs and toast were cooked perfectly. My wife likes a runny yolk and these were what she likes. The toast (wheat) was crispy, buttery, and toasted just right. The bacon was a little crispier than she likes but were delicious. She was very happy. My eggs (also over easy) were perfect too. Yolk was runny and no undercooked white. I had rye toast that was also crispy, buttery, and toasted just right. Good textural contrast to the eggs and hash. The hash had a nice crust on it. I don't know if it was homemade or not but it was good, not special but good. I ate it all so... The home fries, while good, could use a little work. They needed a little more seasoning and a little crisp to them. They were cooked well, just not well enough for home fires. The kitchen grill is open for all to see and it is clear that they were making everything fresh. What we were served was all hot and the portions were sufficient to leave us stuffed for the trip. Good job! The service was great. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive (but not bothersome). They were always there right when we needed them. The atmosphere hasn't changed in decades. Not bad though. Everything in the dining room was clean and well maintained (i.e. not broken down, ripped, or dusty). The only thing I would take issue with was the bathroom. It was clean but needed some maintenance. The door was damaged, almost as if someone forced their way in with a crowbar. The interior was clean except for graffiti on the door frame. Not a deal breaker, just needed to be painted over or something. Overall this was a very good experience. We will definitely be back for breakfast and will give lunch another try. Worst service ever. Old lady with a gray helmet and big nose was our waitress. Claimed to be the manager. We watched her pick up butter off the floor and put it back in the butter tray. When called out she started ranting about her degree in finance? 45 minutes between ordering and receiving food. Never saw her in that forty minutes either. No coffee refills. Nothing. Took two out of three orders and started to walk away. I reminded her there were three guests not two. At one point she came to our table to vent about another table calling her homophobic. Totally inappropriate. In the end she comped the food we didn't eat. She kept walking by our table into the kitchen saying she's taking a two minute break. She came back spacier each time. Getting high? In the end she came back and apologized for her erratic behavior. But she's still not a good fit for the job. Good luck lucky strike. Your 'manager' sucks. read more

We have been going there for many years but with the new owners they just do not care. The food had no flavor and the chicken "which they are known for" was over cooked. There was a cook bothing a waitress by putting his hands on her back which she was very uncomfortable with. It just has gone down hill.. Also not very clean. We will no longer be going there. This is one of my favorite diners to eat because it has the absolute best grilled salmon burger I have ever had along with many good diner meals. Among the meals I enjoy is excellent liver and onions, sliced london broil with mushroom gravy, tuna ala king, and the best yellow split pea soup you have ever had. Their breakfast is also very good with their home fries being one of the best I have had. They also have desserts including many cream pies that are generous in portion. I stop in at least once a week and never have had a complaint. I would have gave 5 stars but their coffee is nothing to write home to Mom about. read more

Usually I am not a diners girl but I have to say I like here. Our waitress Rachel is nice and did a good job. She paid attention but not aggressive to our table. The fish she recommends for me, baked scrod, was really fresh. My husband has the fish fillet sandwich is awesome. Both are light seasoning, it's better for our health:) In fact, they were so hot that we had to wait few minutes first. But it's better this way. We'll definitely be back again. read more

This place is a family friendly, locally owned diner/restaurant. I went for lunch. I ordered a burger and fries and it was delicious. A friend of mine ordered the French pea soup. Man oh man was this delicious. It's made from yellow peas but without meat. I ordered a bowl of this to go, it's just that good. Ordered takeout meals recently. My first clue that it was not going to be good was the phone was answered right away, and the second was the empty parking lot and only a couple of customers inside at 5:30 PM on a weeknight. I've frequented this restaurant so many times over the years. Always busy, always bustling. Food was always outstanding, close to home cooking, hence my reasoning for the take out. I ordered a meatloaf dinner and a turkey dinner, two meals I've ordered to eat in and take out in the past. I was horribly disappointed. The meatloaf tasted more bready than meaty and crunchy, and the roasted potatoes were overdone, not edible. The turkey dinner was an abomination. It looked like they baked a pile of deli turkey and passed it off as a roasted turkey dinner. It was beyond gross! Thank goodness for the mashed potatoes and the salad otherwise we would have starved. To add insult to injury, it was way overpriced. $35.00 for two awful meals which included a take out charge equal to the sales tax of 7%. I can't even acknowledge this meal with one star, but this review is making me. Will definitely not return. read more

My Marines and I decided we would have breakfast together before we started work, so this place was recommended. Not a bad set up inside and the staff was great. I ordered the veggie omelet w/o mushrooms, it came with home fries and toast. The omelet was cooked well but tastes a little bland. The home fries were not cooked all that well and tasted bland and my orange juice serving was for a little kid. The interior is really old looking and kinda dark but the food is great, as was the service. This is a family owned restaurant that has been around for years. Famous for their "Broasted Chicken" which I have to say is absolutely delicious. I usually visit when traveling to the city and always go to Lucky Strike for breakfast. I agree that these are homemade, country style breakfasts and sometimes my breakfasts have been greasier than others, however, their food is always fresh, cooked right after is being ordered and the ladies who work there go above and beyond their ability to make customers feel welcomed and happy with their food. This is typical American diner food. Be aware that they close at noon on Sudays. MAny times I ordered their Broasted chicken early in the morning to bring home home and they always cooked it for me. read more

Tried Lucky Strike for the first time today and will be my last time. After waiting 40 mins to be seated, we settled in with the very limited menu. I found that there were very few egg, bacon, homefries, etc combos so I ended up ordering most of my breakfast a la carte (which adds up! $$). When my family's food came, one item was missing from every member of my family, my chocolate milk was served in the tiniest cup I've ever seen given to an adult and in eating my eggs and toast I bit down on something very hard. Pulled it out of my mouth and showed it to the waitress letting her know that I was all done with the egg dish. She said she "guess she will take it away" and began to brush it off. The waitress returned and asked me if I wanted anything else and I politely told her I had lost my appetite and one of my back teeth was throbbing from an initial bite down on the object. She went on this tangent telling me how "Lucky Stike has been in business for 70 years and that has never happened. It was just a fluke and look around at all the customers that come day after day". I told her I didn't doubt there was return customers but I am me, this is my first experience and it wasn't a good one. She STILL went on about how it was a fluke (not once apologizing yet) and how she went to a popular restaurant once and found a piece bigger in her food than I found in mine. Excuse me? So the only thing you proved to me at this point is; 1) your food is horrible and contaminated with pieces of plastic, and 2) your customer service is worse than your food, My family and I left insulted, shamed and hungry. By the time we got home, we were fighting over the bathroom. Will never eat there again and will absolutely not recommend to a friend. read more

I am basing this rating on how the restaurant met my expectations. It did. As a neighborhood restaurant this place provides reasonable priced meals of reasonable quality. The Yankee Pot Roast was not as tender as I'd expected but it was good and it was plentiful. The mashed potatoes are adequate. The yellow split pea soup was good. Coffee here is drinkable. I think that's saying a lot for most family style restaurants. read more
