This is a small restaurant on main street in Springfield Mass. The food is Amazing I have been going there for years. Definitely a hit.

I grew up with this place as a staple for a good b'fast sandwich. I visited last week, felt like a patty melt. After ordering, I over hear an exchange with the owner and a patron. Long/short, patron starts in on politics "Let's get that uneducated scum out of the White House right now so we can get our Nation back in order." I understand an owner cannot control what comes out of the mouth of patrons. What should not happen however, is when the owner is audible about his opinion and it is equally as offensive. It was visceral, from both parties. So much so that I cannot fathom returning. Regardless of my party and/or political opinion, business owners should ah hem "know better." read more

Great little diner with some really good solid food. Breakfast all day if you're a late sleeper or you get in later than expected. Classic benches inside. Family run business. Self serve coffee which isn't the greatest. Just a normal cup of joe. No bling. Home fries were spot on. Plastic plates and silverware to cut down on the overhead. I get it. Prices are really reasonable. Great people. Owner and wife are high school sweethearts so they have seen it all. Owner I believe was the cook. Don't ask. He has a board in the back that explains all the 50 fun facts about him and who he is. Good stuff. The only reason why I gave a 4, CASH ONLY. Little place you probably would not notice off the beat and path. The breakfast was served hot and the sandwich was delicious! The fries were not cooked long enough and were crunchy. I ate the potatoes off my hubbys plate and they were good. He got the Beat the House sandwich and it was tasty and properly cooked. read more

I just have to give it five stars despite the fact that Info Wars was playing on the TV. My food does go down better without a side of politics. However, the guy that took our order and cooked our food was super friendly. He welcomed us to coffee and told us to take our time deciding. I ordered a number 1 with bacon on an English muffin... Hubby ordered a philly cheese with fries. The whole place is a cool little retro diner style joint, with stools and booths. They aim to please and seem to do a pretty good business. We heard our man taking delivery orders on the phone (for local businesses) and there was a steady flow of customers in and out. And the food was excellent. I'm from NY and know a good egg sandwich, and this was worth the metered parking and two block walk on this sub-zero-degree day. I'd come back here in a second if I lived in the area or visited again. The egg sandwich was perfect and my husband truly enjoyed the philly cheese. He even commented "this is a place with old grill grease and you can taste it!" (That's a good thing!). The fries were soooooo good! Went looking for a better breakfast option than a casino breakfast this morning and a local pointed me to City Jake's Cafe. Great recommendation. Quick, easy and delicious counter breakfast. Well here is a great little example of a good old fashioned and friendly little cafe. Immediately upon entering I received a hearty welcome from the owner/cook. Breakfast served all day. The decor is reminiscent of the old diners that were spartan but clean. Various awards and trophies line the walls. A menu board lists the options and you place your order at the counter, pay a very reasonable price, and have a seat at a booth or counter and wait for your hearty meal! I had a made to order omelette with corned beef hash, potatoes, toast and coffee for $10. If you leave here hungry, it's your own fault! Back again for lunch. Awesome! read more

Take out order - super quick, cash only. The number seven stayed hot, if slightly sticky (French toast, bacon, home-fries) Potatoes were good, onions & peppers well cooked through. Pretty fantastic. What a great local joint where the owner (who I presume to be jake) is super friendly, knows all the regulars, and treats everyone like family. Menu is literally exploding with choices and Jake will make it like you want it. Breakfast is great and super cheap. It's served in a styrofoam plate but I have no complaints- it was deliciously filling and cheap. I truly think this is one of those downtown Springfield gems and you should check it out just for the experience. My only wish is it was open for dinner. read more

Visiting from New Hampshire and staying at the nearby MGM casino/hotel, we decided to venture out for breakfast. This place was an awesome find. The breakfast was very good, everything hot off the grill. More importantly was the awesome, very friendly people working there. I don't know if they were the owners or staff but, they obviously care a lot about their business & their customers. They must be a popular place because in just the time it took us to eat our breakfast, they must have had 10 pick up drivers come in to get orders. I had some time to kill in Springfield while waiting for a ride from the train station. This place was just a couple blocks away. I ordered a waffle with some chicken tenders and home fries. WOWWW! Very friendly and accommodating staff, amazing food, very reasonable price. I loved how he had photos of his family and their accomplishments all over. What a proud father and husband he is and that made the experience all more special. Home fries are raw potatoes. I asked for the bacon to be cooked extra crispy and that was ignored.

'Don't look at the menu, listen to your heart' may not be what you expect to hear at a diner, but nonetheless that was what Jake invited me to when taking my order for a vegetarian omelette, with potatoes and coffee! Jake is what makes City Jake's Cafe unique, but I have been here twice and the breakfast has always been excellent too. You'll get change from $10 after tax and tip. Cash only. Fast service. Decent menu. It's a diner/takeout place that serves everything fast and hot. They serve on styrofoam plates, but everywhere you look it is clean. The owner is a character and will talk your ear off (if he's not too busy taking orders at the counter, taking orders on the phone, or cooking). He has a ton of his fishing trophies (his true love) on the walls. But for the love of God, don't talk politics with him. I got delivery from this place today and was so impressed! To start I had to call and ask a question about the doordash menu and they were so nice. I got the philly pita lunch special with chicken noodle soup and ended with the Jakes Cake. Everything was delicious and the portions were plentiful! I have dinner and dessert for later!
