We tried to find a breakfast place outside of the hotel and we walked around the city as much as we could and we landed in a separate hotel. Not bad, seriously, not bad for a simple hotel restaurant. DISCLAIMER: I was staying at the Sheraton for MEPS purposes. So yes, this meal was free. But just because my meal was free does not mean I lose the ability to judge taste. I will not use the fact this was free in the restaurant's favor as technically it was paid by the government. Point being, I will not put pricing into consideration for this review. Service was very nice, quick and easy. Food came out very fast as well. I decided to give the Fish and Chips a try, I did not expect a good fish and chips from a hotel restaurant and to be honest I started regretting my decision after thinking about it but I was glad I chose it. Let me tell you this, I have had fish in my life. Some from cheap fresh seafood shacks, some from high quality restaurants and even at home. I couldn't believe what I was eating, seriously. The entire fish was breaded perfectly, crispy and light. The breading held extremely well and the fish, oh my if that fish was frozen I would be surprised. The textures were great, the seasoning was throughout the entire fish inside and out. For a lot of the fish and chips I have had in life, you take a bite and say to yourself "eh it definitely needs sauce" to make it enjoyable but this time......the sauce just made it not just enjoyable but heavenly. Looking at the lack of popularity and reviews for this restaurant, I expected nothing. Everyone else said they were pleased with their food as well. The only issue I had was the fries. They were okay, slightly stale but not really. But if the fries were just as good as the fish I would have lost my mind. Breakfast buffet was just like any other hotel breakfast buffet. It was just OK. They did not have bacon when I went, only sausage. Bummer. Pleasant surprise with the service and the fish though, seriously, I know what I'm getting when I come back in July. read more

I stopped in here for breakfast while staying at the Sheraton. It was pretty quiet at the hotel, and the same for the restaurant, but there were a few folks eating. My server was quick to greet me and friendly. I started with a water and coffee while I decided what to eat. There was a pretty good selection so I think most people would be able to find something they like. I chose the 3 egg omelette with breakfast potatoes and wheat toast. Here on a Sunday and everything is closed and it was my birthday. I popped into Picks and asked for coffee and if I could get a pastry to go. The staff found out it was my birthday and went out of their way to sing and bring me a breakfast parfait with a candle. It was such a kind gesture it brought tears to my eyes. Huge should out to Star who made it possible and the manager Cassandra (fellow October baby!) who made some magic for this lady. The pastries were incredible too. read more

Had two meals here while I was staying at the hotel. I had very low expectations the first time, and was surprised how delicious the food was. The filet was a bit overcooked (he'd asked for it rare), but the special pasta with shrimp and lobster was outstanding. SO tasty, and not laden with butter or cream as I had feared. You must get the short rib flatbread appetizer. It was so good that I ordered it again on my second visit. It's big enough to share. The desserts are a steal at $5.50. The key lime pie was very good, the molten chocolate cake, good if a tad cloying. Their special cocktails are delicious. Service was good. The first table we were led to had honey are over it. I had a sticky mess on my elbows, but we were moved to a comfy round banquette that was clean. The service both nights was attentive. read more

The place is good for a night at the hotel or if you're in town for a little bit & need to get a good meal before the road. the food is a small bit up there but the quality of it makes up for this. Good apps & entrees. Deserts are also very good too. Server's are very knowledgeable & helpful with dish selections if you need assistance. read more

We arrived at 6:50pm to find the buffet ending and we waited a few minutes to be seated in order to order off the regular menu. Everyone was very nice and we were the only party in the restaurant for quite a while. The venue was clean and comfortable. We had 9 in our group. The service was friendly but super slow. We all ordered and waited forever for the food to come. It didn't all come out at once. We sat with our meals in front of us as we waited for everyone to be served. My walnut salad with chicken had a nice dressing and was a good portion but nothing special. The chicken was all dried up, as if it had been sitting under heat lamps for an hour. Not good. Finally gave up waiting for the last meal and we all ate. The last meal came out as we were all finished. The mac and cheese was good and the (late) ravioli was fine but again, nothing special. An apology was offered and we were told the food was accidentally taken up to room service and they had to make a new plate. Fine, accidents happen but it should have removed from the check and it was not. No wine menu was offered so we all just ordered. When the bill arrived, I was surprises to see two glasses were 8.00 each and my stingy pour (less than all the other glasses served) of pinot noir was 15.00! Outrageous! Horrible Horrible Horrible! Came in here for breakfast on the weekend, which is buffet only. Hardly any customers in the dining room, yet service was super slow for drinks. I finally had to get up and ask my server for more coffee after 15 minutes because she was too busy reading. French toast's corners were hard as a rock. Sausage/bacon was sitting atop a very thick layer of hardened lard, not even swimming in grease, it was hardened because it was so cold. Cinnamon roll from the bread box is obviously days old. Fruit was ok. Now playing "let's see how long before they bring the check". AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Even though you're in gross Springfield and it's raining: STAY AWAY! read more

Chose Picks due to convenience and time constraint. Ordered lobster bisque and cobb salad, thinking it would be a quick delivery. Food served 55 minutes later. Lobster bisque was pudding thick, congealed and lukewarm. It tasted like the sherry was added at the end and not simmered properly to cook off the wine. All I can say is YUCK! Cobb salad was attractively plated and well, what can one say about salad? Unfortunately, 15 minutes after I finished eating, I had a sudden visceral reaction. In restroom for 1/2 hour. This place is amazing!!! The food is great, but the service is what really makes it shine! It's refreshing to know that places like this still exist-places where you feel right at home and well cared for by the staff. We will definitely be back!!! read more

WARNING: THIS PLACE IS A BAIT & SWITCH OPERATION. I called to make reservations for Springfield's Restaurant week 2016. Restaurant week goes from April 21 through May 1 and all participating restaurants do a $20.16 pre-fixed menu. PICKS is one of the restaurants listed as a participant, however, when I called to make a reservation I was told that PICKS would not be doing the $20.16 pre-fixed menu. I was informed that even though they were listed as a participant, they had "other people to accommodate" and would not stand by the Restaurant Week special. I was told this after making my reservation and asking. If you do not want to be a member of restaurant week you should not advertise as a participant of Restaurant Week. This was nothing but a BAIT & SWITCH operation to get you into the place. PICKS doesn't care and refused to give me a legitimate explanation for why they weren't doing the Restaurant Week special. Glad I found out before sitting down to dinner. Based on their apparent lack of customer service and shady business practices, I would never eat here and you shouldn't either. read more
