    Heated bakery items
    Connie H.

Found this bakery randomly as we walked down the flushing streets. It was slightly cheaper than a couple of the other bakeries we went to (my husband is a huge Asian bakery fan, so we stopped in every bakery we passed by to check it out). The plus for this bakery for me was a little section of heated bakery items. They had one little heated cabinet where I got my Chinese sausage bun, which I didn't see at other places.

During my exciting June 2019 2 week vacation adventure of New York this was the one Chinese Bakery Store of the Flushing Queens New York Chinatown Area that... I have never thought of going to and this Maxin Bakery sort of reminds me of the ones that we have back home of the San Francisco Ca Chinatown Area Bakeries!!! As I walked in to this Maxin Bakery for the 1st time!!! I was really to see all interesting buns to eat for breakfast or a snack during the afternoon or you can also eat it as a late light snack as well!!! While looking around and deciding which yummy bun that I wanted to eat... And what saw was the Hot Dog Bun so from there, I have made up my mind and decided to go after the Hot Dog Bun which was really yummy and very tasty!!! Although there was a lot of interesting yummy buns to choose from!!! If your staying in a hotel near to the Flushing Queens New York Chinatown Area my suggestion to you yelpers and non yelpers go to this Maxin Bakery it's a really good place to buy something good to eat for breakfast or afternoon, late night snack or what you like!!!

    Egg tart

While in downtown Flushing I stopped in to satisfy my craving for Chinese baked goodies. I'm seriously addicted and don't go to any other bakeries now. The pillow soft texture of the baked goods is just unmatched. I was in the mood for Ginger honey tea and heard they made it here. I decided on a Egg Tart and the Ginger honey tea. The customer service here is very nice. The cashiers are fast and friendly. My Egg Tart was honestly the best I've had. This one was very thick and filled with custard. I've had egg tarts before that were just flat and not as thick. The crust was nice and flaky and custard creamy. The tea unfortunately, was way too sweet for me. I loved the Ginger but next time I need less of a diabetic coma with the high sugar intake. This shop is on the corner of Main St and 37th Ave. Perfect stop to make before your train ride or work. There's plenty of meter parking available.

    BBQ Pork Bun $1.45

On my last day in NYC, I made a stop in Flushing to pick up my favorite BBQ Pork Buns before heading to JFK. Yes, this bakery has other items, but it's the baked cha siu bau that is my must have. When I arrived at the bakery, there were only 8 baus left on the shelf. After purchasing them, I headed over to their sister store which is actually closer to the subway than this store, and bought the remaining 4 to make a dozen. In fact, I should have gone to the closest bakery as their inventory was not lacking and I was cutting it close in getting to JFK on time. Since my luggage is carry-on only, I make sure I have enough space in my suitcase.

Cheap bakery that will satisfy your craving for Chinese baked goods! I only get pineapple buns at chinese bakeries and I prefer this place over the larger chains like Fayda and Taipan because the bread here is not only cheaper but also fluffier! One normal pineapple bun with no filling is $1.50 while a pineapple bun with filling (coconut) is $1.55. They also have other varieties as well for $1.55. The ones that are laid out on display sometimes don't come from the same batch so you kind of have to feel which ones are soft (fresh) and which ones aren't. Each pastry is individually wrapped so you don't have to worry about random people touching them. Obviously, you shouldn't expect Asian bakeries to be super fancy, so don't walk in expecting great service and fresh pastries 24/7. Depending on the time, you might happen to walk in when the pastries are fresh or you might not. I usually buy them to go anyway so I can microwave them the next day for breakfast or lunch (that's when they taste the best!).

Bread is good here. Cheap prices. Ranges from $1 to $1.60 for bread/pastries and $1.10 to $3.75 for hot/cold drinks. I recommend the red bean swirl bread, sweet potato bread, pineapple bun, and milk tea. Pros: 1) Use real HONG KONG milk tea bags not LIPTON tea bags... 2) Fast service in the mornings 3) Deal for "SUMMER DRINKS" after 2pm: Bubble/rainbow jelly milk tea for $1.40, I got two for $2.75. Cons: 1) Real cramped space.... like half a hallway basically.. 2) They talk behind your back if they think you dont understand Cantonese.... BEWARE. It's actually pretty disrespectful because they do it a lot... 3) They dont accept more than 5 PENNIES. This is weird. I think they might be too lazy to count themselves. 4) Sometimes, if you ask if they have a summer drink special, theyll say no.... seems like they only have the summer sign outside for advertising purposes and not to actually sell any of the drinks.... but its worth it if you actually do manage to get it. TIP: Get the summer deal if you want the iced milk tea without paying $2.50. You pay $1.40 and drink the tea and ignore the bubbles! Recommend for cheap snack/bread to eat, dont recommend for the ladies who work there.

    Egg custard tart

Okay so my co worker was able to bring me a egg custard tart to work for me and here is my review about it . The crust was deliciously flaky which I love . The custard had a beautiful texture .i just wish it had more vanilla which would have been great . This was my first time trying a egg tart . And I weirdly hated it but I also liked it lol it was one of those things. But they are very interesting but I'm willing to keep trying different ones lol

It's still cold in the middle, when I ask them to heat it, they gave me an attitude "can't you wait!?" Terrible service

The service is trash, and I really think the cashier is racist. Also, the bread is lack of effortness.

We walked into a no frills space where the prices are among the lowest we have found for fresh baked goods in the area, with most items running under two dollars. The black sesame and red bean buns are the items most worth seeking out, and they have earned repeat visits from people who plan their trips to Flushing around stopping here. The black sesame in particular has a depth of flavor that the more common sweet bun fillings do not match. We also tried the taro bread, which is soft with a smooth filling, another reliable choice for anyone who enjoys that flavor profile. The potato salad bun is a more unusual option that has developed its own following among regulars. The buns are individually wrapped for freshness, and the overall quality on the baked goods side is consistent and genuinely good for the price. The savory side of the menu covers ham and egg sandwiches, rice rolls, and dim sum options that function as a quick meal rather than a destination dining experience. We found results there more variable, and the baked goods are where the bakery is most dependable. For an affordable, no frills bakery stop in Flushing that delivers on value and a few standout buns, Rainbow Bakery is a reliable choice. We would come back specifically for the black sesame bun and keep our expectations calibrated on the savory side.

There's a lot of bakeries who have basic or plain savory breads and a lot more sweet ones. I prefer savory over sweet so this was a nice stop for me. Not sure if it was worth the price compared to going to a nearby food stall, but it was enough to hold me over a couple of hours in the morning. It can get packed and busy in here so it's really more of a grab and go type of bakery.

I walked into a simple, functional space with shelves and cases filled with buns, cakes, and packaged items meant more for quick pickup than sitting or browsing for long. The roasted pork buns and BBQ style buns were some of the most commonly picked items. I tried one and the bread was soft with a savory filling that leaned slightly sweet depending on the batch. Egg tarts are also part of the regular rotation, along with red bean buns and sponge cakes that stick to a more traditional bakery profile. The steamed buns section was a big part of the appeal here, especially for someone looking for quick, inexpensive food like pork buns or plain buns to take away. Prices are generally low compared to more modern bakeries in Flushing, which was a major reason I stopped in. Service was quick and straightforward, with my order handled fast even during a busy hour. The bakery has a high turnover of items throughout the day, so freshness can vary depending on timing, and selection is best earlier when the trays are more stocked. It is very much a grab and go spot rather than a place designed for dining in or browsing slowly. Overall, Maxin Bakery is a budget friendly Flushing bakery for basic Chinese baked goods and buns, best for quick snacks like pork buns, red bean buns, and egg tarts rather than specialty or dessert focused items.

I walked into a clean, well lit space designed for quick selection rather than lingering, and the display cases were filled with brightly decorated cakes and pastries that looked consistently fresh. The mango based cakes are the most consistent thing here. I tried one and found it light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which made it easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also worked well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that held its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory sweet options, and they came out better than I expected since they did not go overboard on sweetness. The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissant I had was flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tart was best eaten warm as the custard tightens up when cold. The purple rice desserts are heavier but work if I want something more filling and texturally different from the fruit cakes. Service was generally efficient even when the bakery was busy, and the staff moved through orders quickly. Prices sit a bit higher than older style Flushing bakeries, but the tradeoff is cleaner presentation, more modern flavor combinations, and consistently fresh looking cakes.
