Rainbow Bakery is a Chinese bakery in Flushing that operates as a straightforward, affordable stop for baked buns and light breakfast and lunch items. We walked into a no frills space where the prices are among the lowest we have found for fresh baked goods in the area, with most items running under two dollars. The black sesame and red bean buns are the items most worth seeking out, and they have earned repeat visits from people who plan their trips to Flushing around stopping here. The black sesame in particular has a depth of flavor that the more common sweet bun fillings do not match. We also tried the taro bread, which is soft with a smooth filling, another reliable choice for anyone who enjoys that flavor profile. The potato salad bun is a more unusual option that has developed its own following among regulars. The buns are individually wrapped for freshness, and the overall quality on the baked goods side is consistent and genuinely good for the price. The savory side of the menu covers ham and egg sandwiches, rice rolls, and dim sum options that function as a quick meal rather than a destination dining experience. We found results there more variable, and the baked goods are where the bakery is most dependable. For an affordable, no frills bakery stop in Flushing that delivers on value and a few standout buns, Rainbow Bakery is a reliable choice. We would come back specifically for the black sesame bun and keep our expectations calibrated on the savory side. read more

I got the garlic chicken sandwich to try, it was pretty good! I liked that there was a lot of savory bread/pastries. There's a lot of bakeries who have basic or plain savory breads and a lot more sweet ones. I prefer savory over sweet so this was a nice stop for me. Not sure if it was worth the price compared to going to a nearby food stall, but it was enough to hold me over a couple of hours in the morning. It can get packed and busy in here so it's really more of a grab and go type of bakery. read more

Rainbow Bakery is a fun little bakery. They sell a lot of specialty items that aren't really in my wheelhouse, so I don't want to say too much about it. However, I've stopped in a few times and gotten a cup of coffee, and it's always fun to walk around and look at their sweets, desserts, cakes, etc. I'd definitely recommend if you're familiar with this type of food! read more

Oreo custard cake $28- pretty decent. Altho I prefer less sweet, wasn't extremely sweet. I expected it to be disgustingly sweet like Oreo cakes from western bakeries, but was pleasantly surprised that it isn't. They cuda done a better job with the bday message tho, the "r" looked like a "y", so my sister "fixed" it. read more

This was one of my go-to bakeries whenever I went to Flushing, but the quality seems to have gone way down in recent weeks. I saw a mouse a couple weeke ago. Today, I saw an employee picking up a piece bread from the floor and put it back on the tray. read more

Rainbow Bakery for sure keeps up with the trends--it's not your typical Chinese bakery. You can practically find anything trendy here, from cream puffs to Portuguese egg tarts (yum!). Bravo for Johnny Lo for doing his research! As a jack of all trades, their quality might not always hit the highest mark, but it's pretty decent. Honestly, I can't complain much because their variety is what keeps me coming back for more. There's something for everyone, and that's a win in my book. When I'm in Flushing, this location is my go-to spot. Affordable, cheap, and super delicious--what more could you ask for? I'm a huge fan of their drinks too; they're cheaper than the ones you'd get at boba stores and still hit the spot. All in all, Rainbow Bakery is a solid bakery. read more

This is my go to bakery when I'm on Main Street. It is literally just a few stores down from the 7 train stop. Everything is so delicious and cheap! And the service is amazing. They loved loved loved my golden retriever Penelope! My go to is the triangle cake. I mean you can't go wrong for $2. Everything about this place is top tier! Trust me. read more

Rainbow Bakery is a wonderful Chinese bakery offering a mixture of modern and traditional pastries!! It is hard to find Chinese baked goods without dairy or egg in it. Red bean buns are my go to since they're vegan, and this one did not disappoint!! I ordered the matcha red bean bun and it was delicious! The sweetness of the red bean with the earthy flavor of the matcha was divine. You can also tell that these are fresh because of the warmth and fluffiness! Like most Chinese bakeries, you have tongs and a tray, and pick your own pastries. The checkout went quick since it wasn't too busy. The staff seemed knowledgeable and helpful to the patrons that needed assistance. The layout is cute and convenient. There isn't seating, but there is a countertop by the window that you can eat at. Overall, I really love this bakery and look forward to returning! read more

I usually come here to buy something once a week. My family members also buy here（Beside the subway ）.Today was the worst experience. I bought two bread for $4.55 and gave $20dollars and 55 cents .But I only had one quarter, two dimes and ten pennies. The cashier at the counter said she wouldn't accept 10 pennies only five pennies . I told her I didn't have any other coins. She said she could only accept five pennies, not ten. It was raining so there was no one in line behind me. I don't know why she did that. read more

We ordered a 6 inch vanilla cake with mixed fruit on top. The cake was nice and light tasting which I really enjoyed. It didn't feel too heavy and the fruit on top and inside the layers was good. The cake was also quite affordable with it only being $23. Rainbow bakery also serves a variety of other baked goods and drinks that I will definitely try next time! read more

Upon further investigation, Rainbow Bakery now has three locations in Flushing. The one I visited was on Roosevelt Avenue, right off Main Street. We were there for a light breakfast while waiting for a shop in New World Mall to open. So many pastries looked great, and we choose an almond danish, red bean bun and slice of carrot cake for a cross section of their eastern and western capabilities, along with hot java to wash it all down. The store was brightly lit and clean, with display cases all around to satisfy your curiosity and temptations. We stood at the standing only shelf at the front window to munch, sip and watch the world go by. The danish was delicious with plenty of thin sliced almonds on top and mildly sweet cheese within. The bun was sticky, sweet and firm with a complete coating of sesame seeds. Also excellent, but a bit to gummy for me. The carrot cake was moist and well textured, but really didn't capture the flavor of carrot while lacking any cream cheese icing. Coffee was strong enough, although generic without roasting profile. We were satisfied to wait out the rain and watch customers come and go with small plastic bags full of their selected goodies. With a little more room for a few cafe tables this place could be a real winner! read more

After reading the reviews, I decided to try Rainbow Bakery and so happy I did! I got the matcha and mango cream puffs and they were so fresh, big and generously filled with flavored cream. They were only $3.25 and oh so yummy! I had tried the popular Alimamas Teahouse cream puffs the previous day and these were much better at a more reasonable price. You won't be disappointed! read more

Very clean Chinese bakery with lots of variety of baked goods and pastries. We brought Chinese BBQ pork bun and pineapple bun for our mid afternoon snack. The bread was soft and the pork filling was flavorful. Prices were inexpensive, similar to what we paid in Houston. The cashier was very friendly. Located on the main drag of Flushing Chinatown, this popular bakery was crowded. read more

Rainbow Bakery is definitely one of the cleaner Chinese bakeries in Flushing and they seem to have a more "modern" or trendy style for their baked goods. For one, they have a good amount of cream puffs and other fancier looking desserts & cakes along with traditional classics like egg tarts, wife cookies, etc. I got the CHOCOLATE PINEAPPLE BUN (1.80) because I've never seen anything like that before. The chocolate top was delicious and crispy but I found the other parts of the bun to be average and a bit boring. There was also a lot of bread compared to the crispy top. I gave Rainbow Bakery a 4/5 for it's cleanliness, more modern twist on the baked goods, and potential of other desserts (since I only tried one thing). I'm happy to stop by again in the future to try something else! read more

3.5 stars Got some egg tarts.. reg $1.90 and Portuguese ones $2. Slightly more expensive here than the ones in Elmhurst and not as tasty. This is slightly more bland. The Portuguese egg tart didn't have a lot of caramelization on top. It's practically the same as a reg egg tart. If I was desperate for egg tarts I guess they're fine but they're just okay for me since the ones in Chinatown are so good!!! read more

This location just opened recently and I was very impressed with the wide selection of breads and desserts. First time trying anything here so I bought a tuna bun and a Portuguese custard tart. Although both were quite good and very fresh, the Portuguese custard for me was too eggy and buttery. I prefer the ones sold across the street. They also had this passion fruit cake that caught my eye and hope to try it next time. read more

I love the location on Main Street and was so happy to see a new spot on Roosevelt Avenue. It's right by the 7 train station and near numerous bus stops, making it super convenient to swing by before work or school. This location has a wide selection of breads, pastries, and hot food (dim sum dishes, steamed buns). On my first visit, I got 5 different breads (I only intended on getting one but got carried away lol). I got a sausage bread, a ham and egg sandwich, a dry pork floss bread, a yogurt twist, and an egg and cheese bread. The total for all 5 came out to around $11 - so a little over $2 for each one. Service is fast and the food is delicious. At the register, you can peek and see inside the kitchen, where the cooks are constantly churning out freshly made bread. There is no seating - you just grab whatever you want, pay, and go. Can't wait to stop by again!!! read more

I went to this store this morning for breakfast and I got a bread. I forgot what it calls, it's not showing on the receipt. But it's round with a little cream inside.
