Was exploring Flushing eateries when I came across the Apollo Bakery. What not to like about the black sesame bun? Also the matcha red bean bun that I went on to try?! Not too sweet desserts that go well with tea big time. I like their version of the classic sweet topping bun with a filling. The lightly sweet crumbly cookie-like topping on the fluffy bread-like bun filled with red bean paste was pretty good! I noticed that they also had mini mooncakes of various flavors. Be sure to see what you might want to try at the Apollo Bakery if you happen to be in Flushing. The associate at the bakery was tactful and patient when ringing up my order. Apollo Bakery is evolving with the times! Have you tried their Sticky Rice Boats?!? If no, run and try them now. If you're lucky , you might get 1 box. Each box comes with 11 individually wrapped rice boat with a mix of nuts (almond, pumpkin kernels, walnut) and cranberry? (Guessing because I forgot to ask the cashier what berry was in the boat). Then there's a sweet glaze on top making it incredibly pretty and delicious at the same time. I was super lucky today and was able to buy 3 boxes. One for me, one for my husband and one for my mil. My mother-in-law(mil) loves these too! Apollo Bakery has many yummylicious products but the Sticky Rice Boats are my favorite! Apollo Bakery definitely gets my Yummylicious Stamp of Approval! Excellent. Got 3 pastries for under $8.50 (love saving with cash!) got walnut, coconut raisin and taro. Walnut was my favorite. Perfectly sweet and so many walnuts. I was specifically looking for Roast Pork Buns and wanted to see if this bakery had it (they didn't) since it had excellent reviews. It's a very narrow and small hole in the wall Taiwanese bakery (easily missed when walking by!) with no seating. There is however one of those floating tables along the wall if you do want to eat in there but space is very limited. I was surprised by how many choices of items they had and honestly felt overwhelmed as I wanted to try a BUNCH of stuff. I ended up choosing 4 items: one of those triangular sandwiches by the cashier (tasted a little stale to me), a taro cream cheese bun (delicious filling, bread fresh, soft and fluffy!), a scallion bun (fresh, soft and fluffy!) and their last curry chicken bun (not too much filling but still flavorful, soft and fluffy!). The 4 items cost me $11.60 in cash. They do accept card but I think there is a minimum amount you have to spend and also a credit card fee. The lady at the cashier was nice and friendly. I would definitely return to try out their other items if I'm ever in the area! I can't believe I'm only finding out about this bakery now (seems like they've been opened for a very long time) as I've been to Flushing many times before, walking down this very block! read more

Would have never known until a friend recommended this bakery. It's a very small storefront, but inside there's a large variety of baked goods and pastries. There was a lot I wanted to try, but I limited myself to their original Taiwanese pineapple bun ($2.50) to see if I liked it. The crust was not as crunchy as I expected, but the bun was tasty. Small bakery that most locals are aware about, but it's not your classic chains like taipan, fayda, maxin. It's SO much better. They have unique pastries that other standard chinese bakeries do not. My favorite is their super soft green tea bun that's stuffed with red bean and mochi! Their chewy snow nougat candy is delicious, expensive, but delicious. They are mildly more expensive that the chain bakeries in Flushing, but it's worth it. Cash or card with 4%cc fee. Small space and things do run out so go early if you have something in mind you want to buy. read more

I stumbled upon Apollo Bakery on a day trip to Flushing. Even though I had already ate a pastry from a chain bakery on the main block, I always want to try small mom and pop type establishments especially if I'm all the way in a particular hood so I popped in out of curiosity. As soon you walk in the delicious smell of baked goods hits you. The space is very cozy and not designed for sitting around like the other chain bakeries in the neighborhood. I got the chocolatey cake type dessert and it was delicious. Afterwards I looked at the other rave reviews and kind of wished I didn't get a pastry from the chain spot so that I have more of an appetite to try more things there. Oh well, I will definitely make sure to try more pastries from Apollo Bakery the next time I'm in Flushing. The service was fairly quick and friendly. read more

Past by this small bakery and wanted to pick up a few cakes/buns on my way home. Many Yelpers raved about this bakery, particularly the Sesame creme roll cake. Bought myself one of the roll cake for to try- and liked it. The sesame cake was soft and has a light sesame flavor; creme filling isn't too heavy nor sweet- makes the cake that much more tasty. It is pricey for a small slice of cake (3.75). This popular cake slice sells out fast- it was mid-day and I got the last one. The milk tea drink tasted okay. read more

Talk about the hole in the wall. So much so in fact, that you might just walk past and miss it right before your eyes, like we did. Regardless, both the pumpkin see bun (I made this up since there was no label for it) and the honey layered cake were FINE. The honey came had what seemed like a dozen layers with juicy 'honey' layers every few layers and were wonderfully moist and delicious. The seed bun had what tasted like cream cheese paste as a filing, and was a great snack. This place had a good handful of other things I wanted to get, so don't let the petite facade fool you into thinking they have a small selection. I hope they stay open for long. read more

Amazing Taiwanese bakery! Probably one of the best bakeries in flushing! Hands down! The breads from here has an amazing texture! It's springy, moist and most of all tender! What's most special is that they sell "su（酥）" which is a moon cake like type of flakey pastry with different types of fillings like green bean, red bean and even salted egg yolk! What an extraordinary hidden NOOK on an early SUNDAY MORNING. I pass through Queens a lot and even go out of my way for this place for a decent, inexpensive cup of coffee $1.50. Always rich tasting smooth and HOT. You wouldn't know to find this bakery without a road map because it is squished between two stores, but there it IS!!!, in plain sight. The pastries are always fresh and delicious. There are NO TABLES to sit and enjoy the ambiance, but with a little creative injuinity, there are small parks with benches within walking distance in yellow (included pictures) and a metered parking lot also within a few feet of the Bakery. This place really shocked me. I was walking back to my car when my boyfriend pointed out this small bakery. We had already done our fair share of donut eating last night and we decided to come in anyways. We ordered the taro buns and a loaf of bread and made our way out. We ate the buns walking out of the store and after eating the fluffy, sweet taro filled buns, we looked at each other and literally ran back in. The woman was closing but had us come back in for another round of buns. I took a picture of the outside just so I could remember where to go for these again. It was such a wonderful mix of flavors and the texture was incredible. It's a small hole in the wall and we were in and out. Absolutely the best mooncake I have ever had in my life. I'm not usually a fan of mooncake but my mom picked up a box for me for Mid autumn festival celebration. I was pleasantly surprised about how good it tasted. They have different flavors ranging from pineapple, taro, chestnut, green tea, and your typical lotus one. With so many bread stores in queens big chained one of my favorite has been the local mom and pop shops with some breads i grew up with: taro buns, slices of roll cakes, asian sponge cupcakes. I have been coming to this bakery for years. I love their cake and taro toast. They have good cakes and buns and very strong ice coffee. Everything is made fresh and there is so many different varieties of it. Its a local mom and pop shop with i think two different locations but i typically just go to the one in flushing. And on the weekend they have very good traditional taiwanese hamburger. That always beings me back to my childhood at my grandma house in taiwan local open market. read more

Apollo Bakery is the one undisputed, iykyk, local bakery landmark of Flushing. If you grew up here this was your childhood for all types of breakfast buns. Their bread is fresh, good ingredients, all of that is there. But what makes them really special is that once in a while they will innovate, coming up with new experimental sweets. You can feel there is pride and love for baked goods in their products. I have a lot of respect for the owner, who has also (according to the neighborhood, please correct me otherwise) done lots for their community and donated a portion of their earnings to charity as a Buddhist. They have consistently made good bread for Flushing for decades, I hope they never close. This bakery is culturally important to Flushing, and you can tell just by how fast they sell out and close. There is not a more well trusted, nostalgic bakery here. So go early to get bread fresh. Everything is good, just pick what kind of bread you like. read more

Queens local brought us here and apparently this place has been in Flushing for over 30 years! He loves the cake bun, so our group all had to try it. It's exactly what it sounds like, a piece of cake wrapped in a bun. The cake has condensed milk on the inside so it's a bit sweeter while the bun on the outside adds some firmness. I remember I had past the store many times without knowing a Taiwanese bakery shop had existed when I first moved to Flushing many years ago. (I still walk pass it and return to find the front door sometimes these days XD) Over 30 years of business in the heart of busy Flushing, there must be more than one good reason! They are one of few oldest bakeries sell authentic Taiwanese stuffs. There are meat buns, veggie buns, Asian style milk custard buns, toasts, cakes, milk tea, and other delicious pastries and other sweet buns. I recommend milk custard bun. The sweet hinted crust fused with soft raisins, together with inside the enriched milk custard when you bite down, flavor so solid making me see cows... Best go with black coffee! They sell nigiri rice balls in tuna and pork flavors. Tuna has hint of spicy, which I find it helps appetite without over spicy. Both types of rice balls are good, and with reasonable price. There are few Chinese festivals in a year. And in each festival we celebrate with different pastries and food. Autumn Festival we have pastries in moon shape (round), and Dragon-boat Festival we eat rice and meat wrapped in bamboo leaves, ... Apollo offers these festivals year round. They have these delicacies in the daily basis! I have to say they did a great job keeping the food quality consistent. Taste is same as 25 years ago when I first stepped in the store. I pass by this tiny bakery on a side street 100s times and finally decided to go in. Glad I did. Wednesday is the autumn festival - moon cakes are part of the celebration. I used to buy from Windsor bakery on Kissena but their service is spotty. The service here is very good and attentive. I purchased few different moon cakes - although they all taste really good but my favorite is lotus paste (filling). Taro, greet tea, red bean, ... and ... I don't really like sweet. The darker cake can stay for two weeks and the white one week at room temperate. Happy moon festival and bon appetite. read more
