Sister bakery to the Apollo Bakery, lots of Taiwanese and Cantonese baked goods. Cash preferred. Small tables inside for you to sit at. They do run out of the most popular items so make sure you call ahead to reserve or order for larger items.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't too many people in there. Staff was really nice! My kids love the bakery here! Come give it a try!

Fantastic bakery with exquisite cakes and breads. Don't let the convenient location and casual appearance fool you! Everything here is skillfully crafted and mouth-wateringly delicious. I got the scallion bread, egg tart, and chocolate roll cake. The chocolate sponge cake was squishy yet melty in the mouth and the cream was decadent and flavorful. The staff was super friendly. This is a must-stop!

    Looked and tasted amazing!

The staff is always friendly the pastries are delicious and the prices are unbeatable! I recently ordered a cake for my daughter from a picture she sent me and she loved it. They really exceeded my expectations and the cakes are always taste delicious. Love the softness of the chiffon cake and cream.

Hello My Friends, welcome to Flushing. Take a break on your way on Roosevelt Avenue for pastry and coffee at Mr.Tu's Bakery Plenty of local flavor in this quaint neighborhood Flushing, coffee Shop / Bakery. Right off Main Street, this little coffee shop is a great place to sit down and feed your sweet tooth. Not really many cheap and friendly places on busy Roosevelt Avenue to sit down and take a break. Mr. Tu's is one of those places. Even though we had some shumai from another place, the counter person here was so kind as to let us sit and enjoy our other food along with the coffees that we purchased. My wife and I sat down and relaxed unhurried at one of the small tables that they have inside here. It was great Vantage Spot to watch busy Flushing pass by. Roosevelt Avenue and Main are one of the main Metropolitan exchange Hubs where folks depart their buses and cabs and enter the subway system or vice versa. This little bakery is right outside the number 7 Subway stairwell. The buses of Roosevelt Avenue line the streets waiting for the thousands of folks that are on their way. Tu's is also right on the way as you walk down Roosevelt Ave. to "The Metropolitan's" Citi Field. What a nice little spot this is to inexpensively and unassumingly take a few moments as you're on the way. One of our nice little local spots to hang out, Mr. Tu's is recommended for a cup of strong fresh coffee and freshly baked pastries. JIM D.

Chicken sandwich left and turkey on right

My lovely pregnant wife craves the breakfast sandwiches that are available here. She says that this resembles some breakfast items available in her native Taoyuan City on the island of Taiwan. Whenever I cannot sleep on a weekend morning, which is quite often, I come here to buy breakfast sandwiches because this place appears to open every single day at 6:00 a.m. It's great to get here at 6 a.m., and many people appear to agree with me, because there's almost always a line of early birds ahead of me buying baked goods! Food: the chicken cutlet breakfast sandwich is my wife's favorite. I personally love the turkey croissant breakfast sandwich, though I wish there was an option for chicken cutlet croissant or ham and egg with a croissant. Alas, this isn't available. I also recommend the Pineapple Buns! Buy over a certain amount, you even get a free World Journal Newspaper (while the day's supply lasts!) Service: the women behind the counter are beyond kind and extremely responsive to needs. Decor: everything is so clean, which is important for a bakery. The "sibling bakery" to this place is Apollo Bakery. Apollo makes the zongzi in the morning and has other items not available here, so be sure to check out both if you're looking for something specific, I know I almost always head to both!

    Chocolate Melon Bread

A decent Taiwanese bakery in Flushing. Pastries and breads are always baked fresh in the kitchen towards the back of the store. I always get brownies here, but try to try something different each time. Chocolate Brownie($1)- The texture is similar to that of a cake, but I really like it. Really moist, chocolate-y, and not too condensed. Watermelon Slush/Smoothie($3.50)- When I saw plastic cups filled with chopped watermelon way at the front, I had to get this! I haven't had a true watermelon slush/smoothie in ages. The watermelon slush/smoothie here was alright though. Too watery and much too sweet. I would be better off buying a whole watermelon from the supermarket and making my own. Chocolate Melon Bread($1.25)- It's like a Pineapple Bun or a Japanese Melon Bun, but this tasted pretty good! This also tasted pretty chocolate-y. The bread was not too soft and easy to chew.

A clean, friendly bakery with nicer decor than many of the surrounding places. The quality of their baked goods is good and you don't have to pay a premium for the nicer atmosphere. It is a small bakery so seats are at times not available and their selection is somewhat limited. From their business card, I assume they also own the Apollo Bakery on 39th Avenue.

Love their moon cakes!!! Came back for the 3rd time for more moon cakes :p They bake moon cakes every day and serve them fresh. The staff was nice and helpful, and she packed my moon cakes in a nice little box. I'd definitely come back :)

    Hmmm... Almond bread!

I don't like the customer services here too much, but I wish they would be more friendlier though. Otherwise they have good breads here.

We walked into a no frills space where the prices are among the lowest we have found for fresh baked goods in the area, with most items running under two dollars. The black sesame and red bean buns are the items most worth seeking out, and they have earned repeat visits from people who plan their trips to Flushing around stopping here. The black sesame in particular has a depth of flavor that the more common sweet bun fillings do not match. We also tried the taro bread, which is soft with a smooth filling, another reliable choice for anyone who enjoys that flavor profile. The potato salad bun is a more unusual option that has developed its own following among regulars. The buns are individually wrapped for freshness, and the overall quality on the baked goods side is consistent and genuinely good for the price. The savory side of the menu covers ham and egg sandwiches, rice rolls, and dim sum options that function as a quick meal rather than a destination dining experience. We found results there more variable, and the baked goods are where the bakery is most dependable. For an affordable, no frills bakery stop in Flushing that delivers on value and a few standout buns, Rainbow Bakery is a reliable choice. We would come back specifically for the black sesame bun and keep our expectations calibrated on the savory side.

There's a lot of bakeries who have basic or plain savory breads and a lot more sweet ones. I prefer savory over sweet so this was a nice stop for me. Not sure if it was worth the price compared to going to a nearby food stall, but it was enough to hold me over a couple of hours in the morning. It can get packed and busy in here so it's really more of a grab and go type of bakery.

I walked into a simple, functional space with shelves and cases filled with buns, cakes, and packaged items meant more for quick pickup than sitting or browsing for long. The roasted pork buns and BBQ style buns were some of the most commonly picked items. I tried one and the bread was soft with a savory filling that leaned slightly sweet depending on the batch. Egg tarts are also part of the regular rotation, along with red bean buns and sponge cakes that stick to a more traditional bakery profile. The steamed buns section was a big part of the appeal here, especially for someone looking for quick, inexpensive food like pork buns or plain buns to take away. Prices are generally low compared to more modern bakeries in Flushing, which was a major reason I stopped in. Service was quick and straightforward, with my order handled fast even during a busy hour. The bakery has a high turnover of items throughout the day, so freshness can vary depending on timing, and selection is best earlier when the trays are more stocked. It is very much a grab and go spot rather than a place designed for dining in or browsing slowly. Overall, Maxin Bakery is a budget friendly Flushing bakery for basic Chinese baked goods and buns, best for quick snacks like pork buns, red bean buns, and egg tarts rather than specialty or dessert focused items.

I walked into a clean, well lit space designed for quick selection rather than lingering, and the display cases were filled with brightly decorated cakes and pastries that looked consistently fresh. The mango based cakes are the most consistent thing here. I tried one and found it light, creamy, and built around fresh fruit rather than overly heavy frosting, which made it easy to finish even after a full meal. The matcha cake also worked well, leaning more milky than bitter, with a soft sponge that held its structure without feeling dry. The pork floss cakes are one of the more interesting savory sweet options, and they came out better than I expected since they did not go overboard on sweetness. The croissants and egg tarts are solid supporting items rather than the main reason to come. The croissant I had was flaky with a noticeable butter layer, and the egg tart was best eaten warm as the custard tightens up when cold. The purple rice desserts are heavier but work if I want something more filling and texturally different from the fruit cakes. Service was generally efficient even when the bakery was busy, and the staff moved through orders quickly. Prices sit a bit higher than older style Flushing bakeries, but the tradeoff is cleaner presentation, more modern flavor combinations, and consistently fresh looking cakes. For a modern bakery stop in Flushing, Shakalaka delivers on quality and visual appeal.
