Growing up in Northeast Queens, bakeries were everywhere. You could walk into almost any neighborhood and have your pick of incredible baked goods, often from family-run shops specializing in different ethnic traditions. Over the years, as many of those bakers retired, the number of quality bakeries slowly dwindled. One by one, many of the old favorites disappeared. So when Aphrodite's opened, I was eager--and a bit skeptical--to see if it would be worth the trip. Then I tried their mini cheese empanadas, and that settled it. These little sweet treats are unbelievably addictive. I've brought them to gatherings and shared them with friends and family, and without fail they disappear almost instantly. I honestly can't think of another baked item I've purchased that has been so universally loved. Since then, I've started exploring more of their pastries and baked goods, and each visit has been a pleasant surprise. One item seems better than the next. No, the prices are not cheap--but the quality absolutely justifies it. In this case, you really do get what you pay for. I ordered a cheesecake, spinach pie and cheese empanadas.. haven't been in here in a while and I was surprised that the girl behind the counter was not polite and friendly. She rolled her eyes when I asked if I can add to my order and didn't even ask what color to add writing on the cheesecake. I've worked in a bakery before.. you always ask your customer preferences and what they like to give the best customer service. She didn't even give me the total she just said "ok tap now" left the bag on the counter and proceeded to the next customer.. I even said thank you have a nice day after just to show how rude it was.. Service is very poor but food is great. I also noticed the back table and shelving was used for throwing the girls's purses, papers and boxes thrown. I thought that was first unsafe to leave a purse out like that and also trashy. The food is always wonderful and the staff are very helpful BUT on a Sunday morning at 9:30 we shouldn't have to wait 20 mins to pick up a pastry order at the counter. Have someone taking coffee orders and someone else taking orders for food it's just more efficient; keeps the line moving. Came across this coffee shop and bakery on Francis Lewis Boulevard in Queens. What a treat! I've been there twice with my kid and then friends. We had a positive experience each time. Greek $$ goods are made and served fresh, so there was a little wait. Our purchase was worth the wait. The ice coffee was delicious, pastries yum and their feta cheese puff delicious . Naming a bakery after the Greek God of love is a good tell tale sign that the treats displayed behind the counter should be a sweet aphrodisiac. I'm really fond of the cream empanadas here. The exterior has a sweet crunch with a sweet cream inside that is outrageously and sinfully delicious. The filling has a taste reminiscent of portuguese custard tarts. I could eat a dozen of them all by myself, but that would be irresponsible and selfish to not share these empanadas with your friends and family. There is a nice selection of cheesecake, pies and especially Greek pastries like kataifi, Baklava and other decadent pastries and cakes lining the display shelves. The selection is good and they don't over do it with so many variations of sweets that will make your head spin. 3.5 stars but i believe in rounding up. this is a small local bakery in whitestone that has a selection of premade cakes, cookies and other baked goods. they also do cakes to order and have savory lunch and breakfast menu items like sandwiches and salads, as well as coffee etc. when i came in the morning they were doing brisk business on the coffee-and-pastry front. i came to order their popular cheese empanadas, which are only purchasable by the pound or half-pound. they were very good! the cream cheese filling was tangier than i expected but in a really good way - i really enjoyed it. the outer pastry is very sweet, sugary, oily and flaky, a bit much for me personally but i can see a lot of people enjoying it. note that the actual price (at least of these empanadas) was higher than both the price on their menu board or the price on their takeout menu which annoyed me... i get that it's probably work to fix but they could've at least mentioned it before ringing me up. read more

What a cute bakery with delicious sweets! Craving some apple pie, I searched up some places nearby. We found Aphrodite's sweets and what a gem it is. Once I got there, I forgot all about the apple pie I was craving. Instead, I ordered their carrot cake, tiramisu cake along with their famous cheese empanadas. My sister ordered their tiramisu and rainbow cookies and I got my husband a caramel cake. The carrot cake was delicious. Possibly the best carrot cake I've had. It was moist with a lot of walnuts and raisins in each bite with the tangy cream cheese frosting. My dad tried their tiramisu and said it was delicious. The cake was soft and fluffy and he enjoyed every bite. I can't believe I've never been here before! But I'm glad I finally tried this bakery. It'll be my go to for their carrot cake and tiramisu! I purchased a sampling of their items and they were awesome! My favorite was the mini sweet cheese empanada! There was only one item that I tried that I was not satisfied with... Although the Tiramisu looked fabulous, I was disappointed; it was too rich yet very bland for Tiramisu. This is a small family owned bakery that's been around for decades. They seem to know most of the customers, and recognized me after the third time I went there for koulouri and spanakopita. They are Greek, and have the usual variety of Greek pastries, occasionally the "methismeni" (meaning drunken cookies) plus some Italian and continental breakfast drinks, and goods and a variety of cookies. I like their carrot bread (don't need the icing), and their almond cookies, and the small empanadas with cheesecake fillings, that everyone else raves about. They have salads and sandwiches which I've never tried. They do special orders and have seasonal items for holidays. My favorites are the savory pastries. Spanakopita (spinach pie) , tiropita (cheese pie), the "kolouri" is a round ring of the thin fillo dough, stuffed with either feta cheese or tomato and olives. They bake them fresh twice daily. There are several tables inside, and a couple outside. They always seem busy and parking can be a wait, since it's right in front of a bus stop and the metered parking is shared with the other businesses.. They're not fast to fill orders and I'm always anxious about getting a ticket if I'm "standing" in the bus stop. (I should probably call in advance and just run in to get the filled order and pay.) There is a % charge for credit cards, so cash is more welcomed, like many small businesses. read more

The cookies are fresh, however nothing authentic about their cakes and cookies -- they are made with commercial ingredients like every other bakery.
