Came back here recently to get the lobster tail and other pastries to surprise my friend for her birthday since she mentioned that was her favorite pastry here. I love how the pastry itself is very crispy, the dough still has a chew, and the cream filling is nice and light. Compared to Martha's cream that is heavy, dense, and super sweet, I definitely love Lulu's better. Their napoleon and eclair was also delicious, but the lobster tail is definitely the way to go! Glad to see that Lulu's is now in a bigger spot than before with much more seating and space! The staff are also very nice and pretty efficient. Their pastries are good here, and I've been a customer for over a decade. My daughter goes to Kumon next door and I get her something whenever we have time. This past Wednesday we went and got a few things, like the lobster tail and some cupcakes. I have a younger daughter at home that has a dairy allergy so I asked them if they had any vegan items. Hoping to get something for her too while we're at it. While the woman helping me simply said no. The woman behind her made a comment saying obviously nothing says vegan here, and to go somewhere else if I we want vegan. I pretended not to hear her but I was really turned off by it. The cupcakes were moist and bouncy (in a good way). The flavors are not in the cake but in the cream. So the strawberry is a normal vanilla pound cake and the frosting on top is where the strawberry flavor is. The strawberry on top was like a jammy strawberry. The cream/frosting on top was sweet and had a natural taste. The chocolate cake was good too. The frosting was really sweet. I suggest letting the cakes settle for an hour before eating so the frosting can soften and be more enjoyable. The raspberry cheese pastry was very good. It was tart and not too sweet. Got an apple ring to bring over for the holidays. It was very pretty. The crumble was buttery and sweet. The apple ring was fluffy where the bread was but had a gaping hole where the apple filling sunk. The apple filling was a tad too cinnamony for my preference but overall decent pastry. read more

The strawberry shortcake is hands my favorite because the whipped fish cream frosting was truthfully the lightest sweetest thing ever, the strawberry filling with the vanilla spongecake is amazing. I wanted to pop in here and quickly sing praise to Lulu's Pistachio Mousse Cake. Even though I myself have never set foot in this bakery, this is easily one of the best pieces of cake I have ever had to date. I first had this cake at a friend's birthday this past summer, so when my own birthday rolled around in the fall I specifically requested for this cake. It goes without saying it was absolutely a hit with my birthday party guests. Where do I even begin describing this beautiful creation? We have this gooey icing on the outside, but it's not too sweet or sticky and very pistachio heavy. And then we have layers of moist dense chocolate cake with thick layers of pistachio mousse in between and then the star of the show is the crispy pistachio, crunchy wafer like layer. I believe it's sort of like a white chocolate pistachio disc that's crunchy. A slice of this cake is so delicious and a textural dream. I'm huge on texture and this is hands-down a cake that nails both. If there is one thing that you get here, make sure that it's the pistachio cake. I can't wait for the day this Brooklyn girl finally makes the trek all the way up to Queens and visit this bakery in person. For Thanksgiving this year, I was assigned the responsively of bringing apple pie. Yes, making the turkey is a big deal but we all know.. it isn't truly a Thanksgiving meal without a warm apple pie to end the night. So naturally, I waited till 1 day before to figure out where I'd be getting it from. The lines at my local bakeries were absolutely massive.. and I didn't quite have time to wait (I just feel a bit too old and impatient to ever wait longer than 7 minutes in line these days). Though I wasn't freaking out one bit because in the back of my mind, I knew Lulu's would have me covered. And that they did! I drove up early Wednesday morning and scored me a beautiful (and large) apple pie for only $21. The whole family loved it. I am a regular customer here and I usually love everything they have, especially their 7C and pistachio bomboloni. However, I had a strange experience recently. I picked up a couple of items on Friday 2/27 to-go, a 7C, Napoleon, and an oreo cupcake. When I got home, I noticed that my cupcake had red crumbs on top, and I brushed it off as red velvet crumbs. However, I was caught off guard with my cupcake suddenly tasting like chips, like hot cheetos or takis. The crumbs on the cupcake ended up being chip crumbs. I threw out the cupcake immediately. I am disappointed that this even happened, I don't understand how chips would be anywhere near cupcakes in an establishment like this. Thankfully there were no crumbs on the other cakes. Tried their strawberry shortcake and Oreo pastry as well as heart shaped macron for Valentine's Day special. When ordering a coffee, ask if they have a small size available because I was only given the option of what seemed like a medium and large. Also, there is a card minimum, so keep that in mind if you're just ordering a coffee so that you do not have to buy a pastry if you never intended to. I popped in after class to pick up some treats for my girlfriend. I've been meaning to stop by for years and I'm glad I finally went in. I got half a pound of rainbow cookies, two mini cannolis, a raspberry Nutella tart, and a St Joseph sfinge. We loved everything. We were excited to have the St Joseph sfinge since it's not the typical season for that. The cannolis tasted fresh. The raspberry Nutella tart was just a touch too sweet for us but it had a nice raspberry flavor. We'll definitely be going back! read more

I grew up with this bakery and we always came here for special events or everyday goods. I remember when they were at their old location and the workers were so friendly and helpful. This new staff is a different story..the reviews saying staff is unfriendly and ambiance is cold is right on point. The workers won't acknowledge you, no greeting and then see you standing there waiting (with no other customers) and ignore you and continue speaking among themselves. One of the older Hispanic ladies is especially rude and should not be working in hospitality, the bakery itself is not that good and I have driven to better bakeries that have friendly staff instead of walking to Lulus. I have ordered a cake from them before and it is always a wild goose chase. I needed a cake for a surprise birthday party on the 20th. I left an email since I worked over the weekend letting them know to expect me on Monday to place the cake order in person. I was told in person that I needed to email them a picture, which I did over the weekend as well. You can look at the screenshots. I came in and was told by a worker that I can't place an order for today it's all done over email. I said I emailed Angela already and he got her for me since Angela does the cake orders. I showed Angela the cake and we talked estimates and she said she'd give me a call with the quote for the cake pictured below, I emailed Angela the picture of the design I wanted as I was still in the store. She told me the price she doesn't know because another guy prices the cakes and he's not in so I have to wait for her to get back to me. She got back to me and told me the price was $180 so I said I will let her know. The SAME DAY, I called and got no response so I emailed them again and explained my budget is $150 and that I am flexible on designs as well as size (see the time stamp on the photo). I left a voicemail on Tuesday since I didn't hear back from them and no one got back to me. I work night shift from 5pm-7:30 AM. I called as soon as I finished my shifts on Thursday (today) and I had to call 3 times to finally get someone to answer and they're refusing my order because now it's too late to place an order. DUH that's why I wanted this done Monday. You make the customer jump through so many hoops to get a cake from you all but don't ever own up to your mistake. How can I place an order with you all in a timely manner if your team doesn't respond in a timely manner? It is absolutely ridiculous what I went through and now there's no cake for my father's surprise party. I'm never ordering from here again, they don't value people's time. read more

We bought 2 lattes and 2 biscuits (neither with any flavor nto to mention overpriced) to eat in, and when I asked for a paper bag to take the leftover (which I ended up throwing out anyway), the girl had the audacity to ask me if I bought anything. Named after the owner's favorite French treat and subsequently his wife, they've served the Fresh Meadows neighborhood for close to two decades. They're as versatile as they come and a complete bakery from top to bottom. Any reason to come here is a good one. For starters, it smells wonderful in here. There is a handful of seats for folks who want to enjoy their desserts in-house and this place makes for a nice meeting spot as well. The lighting is on point and depending on the holidays, there may or may not be a line of locals right out the door. They specialize in a number of items, but many folks know them for their customized cakes. These cakes are perfect for all occasions, especially for special ones. They made some intricate designs and are good about finishing them in a timely manner. They always have something excellent in their cake display. I highly recommend their pistachio mousse or their torta americana, if available. Their cheesecakes are incredibly underrated from their classic New York to Italian. Their pies are exceptional, even if they are seasonal. While it's not well advertised, they also make a mean carrot cake and napoleon cake. The fruit tarts are also outstanding and come in a variety of flavors and sizes. When in doubt, the very berry tarts and strawberry tarts are major winners. If their pastries display shows bread pudding or lobster tail, it's definitely worth ordering since those items are not always available. The cupcakes don't get much shine but should be taken seriously since they're better than much of the cupcake specialty spots around town. I tried pistachio and Giandula (chocolate mix with hazelnuts) and like both of them. So I got two scoops in one cup which cost me $5.50. What a deal!
