Today I tried their gelato and got to recommend it. They have quite a few options and I wasn't sure which one to pick so I asked if I can try first. The staff was very keen to let me try. I tried pistachio and Giandula (chocolate mix with hazelnuts) and like both of them. So I got two scoops in one cup which cost me $5.50. What a deal! my family has been a long time customer of long before they moved the street on Utopia. Haven't been in this area for quite a while so we haven't had a chance to go over there until today. Well, we purchased eclairs,, tiramisu, fruit tarts. the eclairs were cloyingly sweet, the custard filling had no flavor, and was heavy, not creamy. the tarts had a glaze that was like a syrup. All in all, we were extremely disappointed. we will choose Buttercooky in the future. read more

I really don't like writing bad reviews but people do have to know. This legit will be the last time coming here. I tried to give them another chance but the customer service was unacceptable. I needed a cake quickly for my aunts 43rd anniversary. So i ordered the tres leches again since it was good, once she showed me the plaque i barely saw it and said it was good ( which is my fault for not really reading but it still should've said happy anniversary). So once i showed the cake and was about to take a picture and took out the plastic... the cake completely fell apart. It was too late to call customer service, so i called the next morning and they said i was supposed to cut the cake with the plastic on.. but i bought this cake before and never fell apart with the plastic off and slice the cake fine. She then told me that the cake was probably heavier this time and just fell apart. Which is unacceptable and embarrassing to give. First it was the writing, now the cake. You don't want to gift a person a messed up cake. Never again. Included with this review is the cake i got. Just beware of the writing and make sure to cut the cake with the plastic on which i never do for any cake i order. read more

When you walk into the new Lulu's, your senses go on overload! The colors & smells blow you away. Moving into this new expanded shop was the best thing they ever did. Now I just have no idea what to get because there are now a gajillion choices! My sister was having a BBQ and we were tasked to bring dessert. Lulu's is our bakery of choice. Stopping in on a Saturday morning, the display cases are filled with everything under the sun. An apple pie is a must, but it must be a little early in the season because it was just OK. I'm sure when apples peak, the pies will be better. You can't go wrong with an assorted box of pastries. We went with a couple each of Red Velvet, Oreos & Cream, Carrot Cake, Fruit Tarts, Chocolate Mousse, Tiramisu, Strawberry Shortcake and I could have kept going, but the box got too full. So we got an annex box and put the last two lobster tails in it! You really can't go wrong with any choice. Next time I'm getting some more rainbow cookies! What a horrible experience. What a thief of a cake shop. I called Lulu's Bakery while my coworker was with me, I put the conversation on speaker because they were quoting extremely high prices after we already agreed to one price (they quoted 78 to 90 dollars for 40 people. And 90 being the sheet cake). Then when we called on Monday, a different person named Angella picked up and I asked for the person who I wanted to put the order with. To that Angella, said " She is not available may I help you?" I asked for what we wanted and she quoted $160.00. Then I got upset because that was really not the price the original person quoted, and I explained it to her. She said that was last week, this week prices went up. Disgusting behavior, by Angella, who is she btw? So I called back an hour later so I could speak to the original person, and I put in the order with her the total came to $135. But we could hear Angella's voice instructing the girl into saying what they wanted her to say. And now, as my coworker is my witness, I asked for BASIC lemon filling, but they gave us Lemon Custard. Everyone at the party got upset. Especially when the guest of honor was a congressman. What a horrible horrible experience. Never going to that shop again. read more

Local bakery in the Union Turnpike area that's been around since I was in elementary school. The lines are long but they sure move quickly, the hardest part is deciding what you want since their is a variety of desserts. Parking is unavailable and the store is infront of a bus stop. Friendly customer service and they have a great open space with tables and stools. If I'm craving for rainbow cookies, cakes, or cupcakes then Lulu has it. Their rainbow cookie is moist and not overly sweet. I like their rainbow cake which is a bigger portion of a rainbow cookie. This is also the spot in the area where you can get birthday cakes and pies. Cookies and some small pastries are sold per pound. A great local spot in Queens that is well known with lots of loyal customers. The cappuccinos are a little strong but the variety and selection of pastries and sweets is lovely! They have great cakes and my personal favorite pastry is the mini almondine tart. The rainbow cookie cupcake and gelato is also great! I passed by this bakery as I was in the mood to give my wife something to make her smile, she loves sweets. My wife and my daughter has been to this bakery a few times in the past, and as what I gathered from them this joint makes good mini-cakes. Parking was easy, there are metered parking along Union turnpike. The place looks clean inside. The staff greeted me immediately and expressed that they are there when I am ready to order. I stood in front of the mini-cake display case where everything looks appealing. So I chose three that looks pleasing and enticing. I opted for a Pistachio mousse, Strawberry shortcake and a red velvet pastry, the staff placed it in a box, I paid, and their prices seems fair. Well, you should see the delight on my wife's face when I got into the car holding this mini-box with the bakery's name on it, she could not stop asking what I got for her. We went home, ate dinner then had the pistachio mousse. It was light and airy, it is packed with pistachio-ness, I like the crunchiness of the little pieces of pistachio combined with the smoothness of the mousse, the pastry was pleasurable. This was my go place. However, sometimes places think they are the best at all and do not make appropriate adjustments. I found their custom cakes to be pricey and lacking the quality I was use to. The service is sometimes lacking social skills and lacking the ability to move along the line seeking service. I find the prices of their products to exceed any other place in the area. The quality and variety of the baked goods at Lulus is excellent. The coffee drinks are also good. Since becoming more sensitive to gluten, i don't go there very much. They don't offer any gluten free alternatives, which would probably be big sellers for them if they did. People with gluten sensitivity will go miles to get good tasting items. read more

This bakery has a wonderful feel too it. The space is large and open, with unique accents. At times there is a line, but it moves relatively quickly and gives you time to figure out what to purchase. The employees are always kind and efficient. And of course, the food. The pastry's are flaky and the perfect amount of sweet. The donuts are airy and light, although the frosting is a touch on the sweet side. The fancier desserts, with mirror glazes and layers, are all unique and relatively affordable. I also LOVE the rainbow cookies. The prices overall aren't too bad either (two donuts is about 4 dollars). Would definitely recommend making a stop. My daughter loves watching the big screen TVs illuminate with the great designs. Although it's as simple as bread, Lulus makes great Italian bread and rolls. Always fresh. Best to Come in the morning they often sell out. They experiment with new designs and recipes all the time so you never know what you might see added into the rotation. Such a lovely little bakery on union! I have yet to try this little gem in the area. I saw the reviews looked promising and I needed a cake! So I stopped by to get a cake quickly. They have street parking and have maybe two tables for seating! They have many options of pastries and coffee! They have standard prices and you can also order a cake to be made ahead of time. I was looking to get a cake on display and the worker came from behind the counter to give me an idea what all the cakes they had were made of and tasted like. She was so sweet and we picked the best cake for the occasion. Also they write on the cake with icing what you want it to say beautifully. I also saw they have amazing doughnuts and muffins. I would've given Lulu's a 5-star rating if it weren't for my experience with one of the workers this morning when I came in to pick up my custom cake order. It was my first time picking up a custom cake order so I thought I would be able to go up to the front of the line since it was a pick-up order and it looked like everyone else on line was waiting to order. I told the employee that I was here to pick up a custom order but she told me that I still have to wait on line. Weird, but I didn't argue since that's their policy and I told her that's fine and went to the back of the line. I did not argue, make any face, or give her a hard time. While I was on line, I saw her talking to her coworker about how "someone" thought they could just come to the front of the line and went on about it for a minute. I knew she was talking about me because she used her hands to describe something I had in my hair. It completely turned me off because if you're going to say something about a customer, do it when you aren't within ear-shot or line of sight. However, everyone else I interacted with regarding my cake order was amazing - especially Angela! And the cake was perfection. Highly recommend! read more

Came to the new location which took much longer to open than the promised Thanksgiving 2020 date. (They ended up opening after Easter 2021) You would think they would put a GRAND OPENING sign or something for when the bakery finally opened but there was nothing. I happened to walk by one day and notice they were in business (I guess this was a personal choice on the business owners behalf). Today I walked in and there was a young blonde girl with blue eyes who when I smiled and said hello was very stand-offish and gave me an attitude when I asked her if the cannolis were fresh. My other experience lent soggy cannolis so I figured I'd ask. She answered "They were LITERALLY filled like 2 hrs ago!" Ok thanks.... I ordered a variety of baked goods. When I went to pay she informed me that they STILL do not accept American Express. Ok, fine. Luckily I had cash. The cash register to pay, at first I thought was a joke and we hadn't made it to the check out register. NOPE! You're expected to reach through a 6 inch gap to grab your boxes and bags and pay the employee. I thought this was hilarious. It's either bad design or just laziness? I'm not sure.... why not just keep the register behind the counters and serve people their boxes on top of the glass. This was a little bit silly! After spending all that time and money to build and expand and open this new location, the register is an actual inconvenience. Especially if you have purchased more than what fits in a small paper bag. The girl didn't bother to hand me my boxes and went down to the next customer so I had to grab both boxes, one was large and one was small, and balance it over the small gap and towards myself. I then moved over to a table to get situated before leaving. I'm almost certain that many others have found this experience odd in the least. In short, I wish the staff was a little friendlier. People come to a bakery to get a treat, maybe for themselves or a loved one. It should be a pleasant experience and should be light hearted and fun. I went there to get a simple cheesecake as a gift they only have a personal serving for four dollars or a giant 8 inch cake for $30. I wouldn't call this place gluten-free friendly as they have maybe one option in the whole place. The ambience is pretty. I like the expansion from the old place.
