    Oxtail Roti
    Johnny Y.

Our company got the Oxtail Roti, Curry Goat Roti, Jamaican/Guyana beef patty, Egg Ball, & Banana Cake. I normally don't know how Guyana food suppose to taste like but our colleague recommended it so it's a good venture to try. The Oxtail Roti was indeed flavorful. Definitely different from all other oxtail stews that I had. I just wish we had a bit more meat? instead of bones and sauce. But overall it definitely will warm your belly. The Curry Goat Roti was interesting. I didn't really taste any curry tbh eventhough it was drench in the sauce. Still flavorful regardless. The Egg ball reminded me of a scottish egg concept but more on the blander side. Definitely unique in it's own concept. The Guyana and Jamaican beef patty was probably not for me. For all the non spicy eaters out there the Jamaican one is definitely a kicker vs the Guyana version. The Banana Cake smelled and tasted more like a Banana Bread-ish? Has a bit of that wheat bread smell but semi soft to bread/cake like texture. Definitely on the sweeter side. Overall, this was interesting neither good or bad. I can't honestly compare this to anything as this is my first time eating this. I just know a lot of the selections has that cinnamon like smell to it and if you're not a cinnamon fan. This may not be for you.

This is one of queens nyc best bakeries. And it is a guyanese restaurant also a nice combination for rum cake and some of your best chicken roti with mango and 2 doubles some cassava. It is not the biggest restaurant but it is quality in there for all your favorite guyanese dishes. And the staff is very friendly. They have a nice lady that works there we call her mom's. She is a very cool lady ,when I come in there to order I say hello mom's how are doing. As she there to greet you with a smile .and I ask for salt fish cook up rice cassava bread ,or your curry duck.and curry chicken ,farine some garlic pork ,chana ,chow Mein chick peas. Sounds good so when you are in jamaica queens and you wants some good guyanese food.so stop by this place and get some good guyanese food.you can eat in or take out . but if you decided to stay ,the establishment is clean and the atmosphere is peaceful ,it is not a real big place but you have tables inside to eat at. If you happen to be in jamaica queens area stop by and say hello to moms for me see you soon.

This place has potential to be better; Two stars because I called to find out what they had available for lunch that day, I wanted to know if they had doubles whoever picked up the phone briefly stated " yeah, we got them" and hung up the phone. I assumed it was a mistake and I had other questions, I called back and asked if the person who hung up the phone did so by accident & asked again what other options they had for lunch; This time the person rudely stated " I don't have time to answer you questions and again hung up the phone . Although I was annoyed with this place already, I had my mind set on getting doubles for lunch so I went to the store; They have food displayed buffet style and I was able to get the doubles however, you only get the doubles with chana and tamarind, no meat doubles is available . Its decent and you can get a meal .

Among the many soigné Trini eateries scattered across Queens, this one layers in just the right accoutrements to truly awaken your palate. Sweet bursts of pineapple weave through the savory richness, striking a perfect balance that transports you straight to the shoreline--sun on your skin, salt in the air, and the rhythm of the Caribbean just beyond the waves. You can get huge servings, of chicken, beef, shrimp, oxtail, duck, rice and vegetables in lunch and dinner servings sizes. While we do love the complete meals, we came exclusively for the "doubles". These savory pastries pack a flavor explosion that can't be beat. Made of flour and fried, these moist but crispy disks are stuffed with your filling of choice. You can have meat, seafood, veggies or just plain if you are not feeling fancy. After selecting the filling, make sure you ask for " everything " toppings. The toppings consist a healthy slathering of spiced chickpeas, tangy tamarind chutney and spicy pepper sauce. If you can't handle spice, leave out the pepper but without the sauce, the depth of flavor is absolutely lastonishing. I selected one shrimp and onw goat double, my partner in crime filled his with assorted veggies. The vibe is fast paced and super busy so grab a menu, decide what you want and be ready to order when it's your turn. They also sell assorted beverages to help cool you off. I'm studying the menu for my return trip. Enjoy.

**A MUST VISIT RESTAURANT IN LITTLE GUYANA** **DELICIOUS…read moreFOOD & BAKERY ITEMS** A SPECIAL PART OF QUEENS Spanning about thirty blocks around Liberty Ave in Richmond Hill, is a very interesting neighborhood known as Little Guyana. An area where one of the largest populations of Guyanese immigrants reside in New York, along with others hailing from Trinidad, Jamaica, India, and Asia. As such, it's a bustling Indo-Caribbean mixing pot neighborhood, with - in some areas - a times square vibe. And most importantly, home to multiple restaurants, Carribean bakeries, clothing shops, grocery stores, and even Guyanese style Chinese food restaurants (Yes, that really is a thing!) EXPERIENCE LITTLE GUYANA AT SYBIL'S A fantastic way to start off your exploration of Little Guyana is to visit Sybil's Bakery. Here, Sybil, an expat from Guyana, along with her relatives and children, have been serving Guyanese specialties to the Richmond Hill community for almost 50 years. Offering steam tables filled with fantastic food, Bakery items, and authentic drinks. THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT Ask someone from Guyana, and they'll tell you that Sybil's is a top spot to visit in the neighborhood. Because of this, the restaurant can sometimes become very crowded, with a line spilling out the door, and down the sidewalk. So it's best not to visit during peak times if possible. And as it's a small restaurant with no tables, you must enter, grab a ticket from the dispenser, and then wait for your number to be called. And while waiting, it's a great time to check the various offerings in the steam table area, take a peak at all the bakery items and patties, and peruse the large menu above the counter. And to be honest, because of the large number of choices here, you really need to do this, so you'll have somewhat of an idea what to order when you're called. YOU HAVE TO TRY... Just about everything is delicious here, so all the standard Caribbean dishes, such as Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, Fried Chicken, Oxtail, Curries and sides are all great choices. And then another wonderful item to try here, is Guyanese Pepper Pot, a traditional meat stew with a dark spiced gravy. And don't forget to order a tasty Roti to eat along with any saucy dishes you order. In addition, the fantastic Guyana Style Chinese items, such as the Chow Mein (fried noodles) and Fried Rice - which are my favorite- are seasoned exceptionally well with Caribbean spices, making these dishes hit differently, in comparison to other restaurants. Of course there are regular Jamaican style Beef Patties and Chicken Patties being served here, which are very tasty. But the Guyana style Patties, which are round, and packed full with either beef or chicken, & veg are scrumptious and unique. With these, the crust is more similar to that of a chicken pot pie, and the generous filling is fantastic. Meanwhile, because these are so friggin good, you will see people order them here by the dozen, to take home. So don't pass these up. Another popular choice, especially during lunch, are Sybil's famous Fish Sandwiches and Jerk Chicken Sandwiches. These start out with either fried fish or jerk chicken, along with lettuce, tomato, tartar sauce, another slightly sweet special sauce, and then some hot sauce, on a wonderful, mildly sweet and soft Coco Bread. Sybil's makes these sandwiches here, non-stop all day long, and there's a deliciously good reason why! BUT SYBIL'S IS A BAKERY ALSO! A trip to Sybil's for most people usually entails purchasing food, and then also Guyanese style baked goods. Some items of note, are the fresh Tennis Rolls, a dense, slightly sweet roll famous for being eaten with a nice slab of cheese in between, creating the best cheese sandwich ever. And if you enjoy cheese, the Cheese Roll pastry, the Cheese Pie tart and the Cheese Scone are also wonderful. And some examples of the sweeter style baked goods here, are the famous Guyana Pineapple Tarts and Guava Tarts which are a must try. Along with the Carrot Cake, Cassava Cake, Cherry buns, Coconut Drops, Chinese Cakes, Currant Rolls, and Solara, just to name a few. I LOVE THIS PLACE All in all, Sybil's is not a perfect restaurant. There are no tables to eat-in, it's usually crowded, and the ordering process can feel a bit rushed and intimidating your first time here. Moreover, if your looking for the best Trinidad style Doubles and Roti, then - without a doubt - Trinciti, Trini Delight and Singh's Roti Shop are better destinations. (Look for my previous review of Singh's Roti Shop if you have a chance). But let me tell you, if I am anywhere near Little Guyana, and I'm hungry, It's a good chance that I'm stopping at Sybil's for some of my favorite food and some magical baked items to take home. Because I really love this place, and if you get to know this unique restaurant like I do, I bet you may fall in love also.

It's a fairly large restaurant. We ordered cocktails, few tapas and the steak. I would've ordered another entree but they were out of dish after dish that I would've tried.. well it turned out to be enough food since the omelette dish was so dense and I filled up on bread. The best dish was the shrimp with garlic tapa which I usually wouldn't bother ordering but I've already tried most of the menu. Lots of garlic. Really tasty ..dipped the oil with the bread. We were sitting there for a while, waiting for our drinks and other food but nothing came out so I wanted more bread since I was starving. My first meal that day. One the guys brought more bread for us quickly. The steak and omelette finally came. I would never order the omelette dish but L wanted to try it and it was tapas Tuesday so there was a slight discount. Very bland. Not enough egg, too much potato, very dry so we spooned a lil of the garlic oil from the shrimp dish and it helped a lot. I had a lil but L ate the rest. Salad was good but it was overdressed. The steak was a lil bit bloody in the middle even though we ordered it medium so it wasn't as good as we had it before. We still didn't get our cocktails because the bartender lady kept making margaritas which were only $5 that day instead of our $17 drinks. Someone came past 7:30pm and our waitress said he was gonna make our drinks. The drinks were pretty good but we already finished our food. Usually I would have ordered one of each cocktail at Sala but I was full and had other places to go. The slow service and the unavailability of certain dishes has impacted my recommendation to others but I still like the drinks here and we did enjoy the gambas tapa dish a lot..
