I have come here countless times to pick up buns, pastries, and cake. Most of their items are good. My personal favorite is the chicken pie which is moist on the inside and flaky on the outside. It is savory and having one is never enough. I really enjoyed eating the chicken pie from other bakeries growing up, but Fay Da definitely has to it done right. Most bakeries appear to be cash only, but Fay Da allows for credit (believe is a $10 minimum) without a fee. So it's definitely a great option and attracts more customers. My wife usually orders birthday cakes from Fay Da. Not that the cakes are not made on-site, its done somewhere else, its best to schedule it in advance and can easily be done on their website. For 2 cakes that were not on their catelog, they were able to make the cake, one which was eevee from Pokémon and one which was pikachu which they used to do years ago but is no longer in their catelog. For a slightly more customized cake you can always reach out to them via email and they seem to be very responsive. The bakery isn't anything fancy, definitely not a place to bring a date. Most of the time it's grab and go for me. They do have some seats and tables, it does look a bit rundown and old but the bakery serves its purpose. I was in NYC for a trip, staying in Flushing. There are several Fay Da Bakeries in Flushing, this one is on Kissena Blvd in the same plaza as Gold City Supermarket with a shared parking lot. I went there at 4:15pm on a Friday and it seemed busy still and their baked goods seemed fresh and their puff pastries were in a warmer. I couldn't believe that I would like the eat these traditional Chinese bun. I thought I would love the new style bakery more such as Matcha Cream Croissant in Shakalaka or Paris Baguette. Other than the restaurants and supermarkets, you'd be amazed how good the Chinese bakery can be. I love the Chinese bakery because even for a non-desert loving person like my self, I actually like Chinese desert. Why? Because they are not overwhelmed with sugar like most American deserts. One of my favorite Chinese desert is the Chinese egg tart. The crust outside is light and crispy while the egg tart in the middle stays soft. And, you guessed it, it's not sweet. We usually come by and pick up a lot of stuff good for the whole family for a week. Other than the deserts, I also love their breads in many different varieties. This Fay Da bakery is small but very well stocked. It's a few doors down from the Gold City supermarket and you might miss it if you're cruising down Kissena Blvd. The parking lot looks pretty big but it's deceptive because it's always packed with people shopping at Gold City and getting a parking spot is cutthroat. But if I'm on foot or on the bus, I like stopping here to pick up baos for breakfast for the whole week. I pop a roast pork or ham & egg bun in the microwave at the office and I have an instant hot breakfast. The gai pai (aka chicken pie) is a mini meal in itself. The staff at this place need to have some serious people training. The place looks dirty, dingy with bad upkeep. For what they are charge, they are just not giving you the products or services reflecting these prices. The icing on the cake is, they are now charging 5 cents for plastic bags. They refer to the "new law". I think the establishment doesn't understand that the law only covers grocery stores. Or this is another way to crab more from their loyal customers. Towards the afternoon, it is quieter and seats are readily available. On warmer days, the suns rays light up every part of the bakery. It is a pleasant sight to behold. My favorite foods to get from here, but not limited to this specific location, are: 1. Japanese cotton cheesecake- sort of like the denser version of a sponge cake but with a more cream cheese taste(think Uncle Rikuro's cheesecakes) 2. Tuna Bun- Similar to a Meat Pie, but filled with seasoned tuna instead (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED) Drinks: 1. Milk Tea (Nai Cha) - this is a staple drink you can get from any local Asian bakery. I love the milky taste complemented with the tea. It's like drinking hot chocolate. It's a self serve p bakery where you pick your prongs and tray and get to choose which baked buns or good you want. I get there around 730 am on some days and the baked goods are hot and fresh. Some of the buns are just being put out. I've bought buns at night and definitely a different taste of course. The ladies are chinese and can barely speak English. But they do understand simple English like tea with milk. My gripe would be the lady behind the counter picking her nose. Pretty gross. I know they pick up our food with the prongs we use but I rather they hold the nose picking to behind close doors. Definitely turned me off. read more

The place convenient when you happen to do laundry next door. The breads & buns are pretty run of the mill stuff. Nothing fantastic to shout about and it ain't bad at all. I just bought a bread filled with corn mayo and ham pieces. I usually have the tendency to wipe off some of the mayo because they put too much, but this time, found the meat to be spoiled...not a little bit...but quite obviously. I went back to tell them with the intent of courtesy to let them know because I work right above them. They claimed all their bread is fresh every morning, and it's impossible to be spoiled. She did a little "experiment" in front of me and proclaimed the bread safe to be eaten..................................NO, I still had the spoiled meat taste in my mouth and I know what that bread is suppose to taste like from eating it about thrice a week. I took off a star because I don't really care for the consistency of the Fay Da franchise's cakes, eating one, in my opinion, is similar to eating a sponge. Everything else here is great. Their buns are really good and very inexpensive, and they have mastered every variation of puff pastry. I really enjoy the steamed buns, and beverages also.
