Maureen's is one of the premier breakfast/lunch spots on the island. It's a place you go to when you have a little time to spare because mostly likely there is going to be a wait, but that's part of the experience. It's a good when you chat with other waiting customers or with your companion/group. If you are going to complain about the wait or let it ruin your experience then not the place for you. When I got here and inside I have to say I was slightly surprised about how large I found the space. Most reviews mention cozy, crowded, cramped, etc.. but then I realized it's a matter of perspective. This is Suffolk co. after all - generally used to larger places and space. I'm coming from Nassau co and work mostly in Queens where space is generally less (less bovines as well!) The portions are generous and delicious - three egg omelets are probably more like 6 egg omelets folded multi layered upon itself. The ingredients are generous and I enjoyed their hash brown potatoes. Large stacks of fluffy delicious pancakes. A specials board shows off their latest dishes - you can see they are usually trying a new combo or to come up with some special. The coffee is good and free flowing - even my iced coffee came with a carafe so multiple refills! We grabbed a piece of pistachio crumb cake on the way out to have something sweet - it was delicious and messy (probably NOT eating in the car is the way to go!). I'm never a fan of a cash only policy in this day and age so that is perhaps my one nit pick item, but in general I enjoy Maureen's just come prepared, or don't, there are plenty of people that are fans like me. read more

DONT FALL FOR THE HYPE. This place was recommended by a family member but I wasn't impressed. I ordered French toast with strawberries and I received French toast coated in strawberry jam, sugar and cream cheese. I didn't mind too much that it wasn't what was described on the menu and taste wasn't too bad. What bothered me is how much jam and sugar was thrown on my plate. I wish I'd taken a picture. This breakfast food at Maureen's was exceptionally good and the service was great. I can't say enough about how satisfying those omelettes were and the coffee kept flowing and the staff was nice. The place was crowded on a Sunday morning, which says how good it is. Absolutely fantastic food! I have been told go try this place out for a while, so I finally did! Hint: try going before 10am so the wait isn't as long! We only waited for about 15 minutes at 9:30am so it wasn't bad at all. I tried their special of the day which was 2 English tea biscuits smothered in their homemade sausage gravy! It came with a side of eggs and hash browns. I must say, the hash browns were amazing! They were red skinned potatoes (my favorite) and were cook to perfection! The sausage gravy had so much flavor and the biscuits were big and fluffy! I also saw they had a ton of different flavored pancakes so I tried a pistachio one. Unbelievable! I have no idea how they packed so much favor into the pancake! The portions are very big so I was able to have leftovers for sure. My husband had an omelet and it did not disappoint! Again, so many choices for omelets as well! They're only open for breakfast and lunch so make sure to check their hours before heading down. This past Saturday, they were only open until 1:30pm. Just as great as I remember many years ago. We had a wonderful waitress named Jennifer who was extremely helpful with my children and myself. I wish I lived closer! We had pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, corn beef hash, eggs, and coffee. (Kids had lemonade and chocolate milk) everything came out in a timely fashion despite being fully packed at 11 AM. Maureen's does food right. Have dined here twice. First time I got the sliced chicken sandwich, and this time I had the corned beef/pastrami combo. Maureen's has my favorite fries EVER. Make sure to ask for them well done. I love the crispiness of them. Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside. Recommend a side of chipotle mayo. Each time I have gotten the Croissant French Toast of the day. The first one was much better than the second one. The first was a Nutella and Strawberry one. The croissant is soft and filling, however, the filling really makes it, because the second time I went we got blueberry cream cheese and banana, and nobody in my party liked it. Probably some of the rudest hostess/servers I've ever encountered. $60 for three meals! They have gone down hill over the years and the people working there are rude. There is nothing friendly about it. It is also so expensive for what reason I have no idea. The food is ihop quality now, the pistachio pancakes used to be my favorite- super dry and crumbly now. The worst part is that they're cash only and the atm is from 1990 and doesn't work. Had to go get money from the atm at cvs across the street in the rain. When I ask to see the manager, the server Jenn, told me he's over there instead of asking him to come to my table, and I couldn't go to him because I was with my two young children. Took my 90 yr old dad and his 85 yr old cousin there for brunch today - total of 6 of us at table. The "host" who sat us was super! Friendly, respectful and understanding of their limitations (walker/cane), and genuinely welcoming! However, the waiter was extremely abrasive and loud. I don't think he likes his job! He challenged our request for additional sauce suggesting "did you taste it", came to table abruptly to get check paid, brought cane and walker to the table rushing us out while they were not yet done with their coffee ! *CASH ONLY* During our road trip in New York, my husband and I drove over to Maureen's Kitchen for some lovely breakfast! This is during COVID times around September, so we ate outside. We were about 6 feet away from other people eating here. I ordered the white chocolate chip pancakes while my husband ordered a burger (Who doesn't love an 8:30AM burger?). The pancakes were pretty big and plentiful! While the syrup tasted light and fresh, the white chocolate chip pancakes were so dense and immensely sweet! My current sweet tooth can no longer catch up with the past version of myself who would eat white chocolate chip pancakes weekly. The white chocolate chips were even sandwiched between the pancakes! This is not a complaint though - I loved every morsel of these delicious hotcakes. Meanwhile, my husband's burger tasted surprisingly fresh and not too heavy, especially considering it was 8:30AM! We had such a lovely breakfast at Maureen's! The only thing to remember is to bring a lot of cash, as Maureen's is kind of pricey and only accepts cash. I had the pistachio pancakes substituted for plain in my #2 with eggs scrambled and my husband had the regular pancakes with eggs done the same. The presentation was nice but the pancakes were very doughy, the eggs were plain with no seasoning and sausage could've been a hotdog. Ar least the bacon was cooked well. The food choices were basic and should have been sure shot but instead I think they are going off of previous reputation and it was disappointing. Came here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon, there is a bunch of outdoor seating available; a line for indoor seating. We had called first and was able to bring our dog with us for their outdoor seating! Management's discretion ofc. We had the omelette of the day (broccoli rabe, avocado, peppers and brie cheese), a stack of pistachio pancakes, and their loaded home fries - everything was very fresh and staff was very accommodating. The only thing that made the meal hard was the amount of wasps and bees in their outdoor seating. It was hard to enjoy the meal with them flying around everywhere. I saw there were insect repellents on their tents but it wasn't too helpful unfortunately. It's kinda like an independent version of iHOP with much better coffee and service. The milkshakes, speciality breakfast items like pistachio pancakes, and cute little milk jars that accompany generous pours of coffee make this place super comforting and unique. The crowds are kind of insane so be prepared to wait for a table. Fortunately the table turn over is good so the lines move pretty quickly. Was honestly a little disappointed in the quality of the food as the eggs were soggy and the pancakes were not very flavorful. My friends and I also shared a side of home fries which were terrible as it was completely flavorless even after adding a moderate amount of salt. Truthfully the worst home fries I've had in my life. Lacked any flavor even if it was stuffed with apples. Could have used a little salt and some more powdered sugar (both were lacking). Ended up not finishing the Omelette. Coffee Happy with the 3 refills. Nothing memorable about the taste. I would go back but I want to try something else. It must be rated high for a reason. I love Maureen's Kitchen. It's so homey and comfortable. It's got both the classic diner vibe and it's own character and charm. The cow theme is cute. Even on a weekday late morning, the place is pretty filled. We were all happy with our breakfast!! The specials were delicious and creative, as is the rest of the menu. And the portions were pretty big so you'll likely have leftovers. That being said, this isn't really the place to come for a light, healthy breakfast. I had the french toast special (croissant, apples, walnuts) and it was SOO good. Also, our waitress was attentive and timely. You're not rushed out like popular breakfast eateries tend to do. This was my first time to visit Maureen's. Food was fresh and delicious! When we received our check we were shocked at the amount! For what we had we thought it would be higher. Our sever ( Tami ) was very friendly and professional. Checking to see if everything was okay and if we needed anything. We went on a Sunday morning and arrived around 10:30. Waited for a table for 2 for about 20 minutes. Not bad, considering the amount of people waiting. They have the outside set up pretty nice for people to wait. They even had a guy playing guitar to keep people entertained. The menu has a lot of interesting options and I was looking all over at everybody's orders going by. It all looked amazing. I got an omelette With Prosciutto, spinach, tomato sautéed onions and cheese. It was very good. My friend got the breakfast special #2 with had pancakes, eggs, a sausage and 2strips of bacon. We had a about an hour wait, which I wouldn't mind if the food is great, it was average, nothing to rave about. We also saw a dog eating of the table from our next door dining guest had brought in, and this was not a service animal, if that's your thing to watch while you are having your meal then this is your place to go otherwise you may want to consider other options.
