I wasn't a fan the first time I visited a few years ago and it was just as unenjoyable this time around. The meals were too salty, lacked flavor, and were overall unappealing. It seems many like it here though so I wish them well with their loyal patrons. This place just isn't for me.

Oconee Diner is a classic Long Island staple! From the employees to the decor to the food, everything there is amazing. The menu is over six pages long with everything you can imagine. The decorations alone make the place worth a visit as every inch of space is covered. I've never had a bad experience there, there's a reason they are always crowded!!

We had a great breakfast here! We have three kids under 2 and the staff were so kind and attentive. Other places get spooked seeing our young kids but the staff fawned over them. The diner is decorated to the max for spring and it's so fun. My son had the best pancakes I've ever had and the sausage links were spectacular. My corn beef hash was great as well! Coffee was brewed perfectly. We'll definitely be back.

Super festive around the holiday season.

Who wants Christmas in February? I'm sure plenty of people, though my review of Oconee Diner has nothing to do with the shortest month of the year. Travel back to a few days before Christmas 2024 and you'll find myself, my wife, and our friends (with their three kids) snuggled in a booth having a pretty enjoyable first time experience at Oconee. I say pretty enjoyable because like any LI diner on a Sunday morning, the place is usually hopping. The same can be said about Oconee on this December 22nd date, but add in the biggest reason to come here (more on that in a sec) and the crowds just grow from there. Despite the masses and overflow of people in the waiting area, we still snagged a table right when we got in. The place never stopped that bustling feeling, but the service was quick and it wasn't overly loud which was helpful to the three kids all under 10. Though mentioning those little ones is why we came to Oconee as it was our treat to them in getting to experience a good reason why this place gets crowded: the decorations. Oconee goes all out with hanging shimmering Christmas items all along its ceilings and walls. Closeup it's actually a bit kitschy, but looking at an overview, it's rather beautiful (and most importantly the kids liked it!). The same could be said about what they ate (the oldest of the three said it was the best meal ever), though adults can be harder to please. Our friends had mixed feelings on their food, though I'll say my wife and I enjoyed what we shared. Like any diner, the menu runs the gamut of what to order so picking tried and true choices tends to work. Hence why our cheese and sausage omelet was pretty tasty. Strawberry and chocolate chip pancakes probably sound somewhat safe too (and they were), though they were almost more "cake" than pancake with their yellowy, fluffy texture. Different, but enjoyable nonetheless. Overall, Oconee Diner was a solid experience with diner food that's going to mostly hit the mark (depending on what you order). It's not right around the corner from my wife and I so I don't foresee us returning regularly with closer diner options nearby, but during December there's a definite chance we'll go again especially if we do indeed want to get an extra zing of Christmas spirit. Now if they did keep up their decor all year, perhaps a trip (not in February) but July would be fun. Hmm.

Beautifully decorated all year round. The food is freshly made, the service is good and fast, the menu gives a ton of choices, prices are reasonable and the portions are huge. There's one thing that makes this place one of the top spots in Long Island in my opinion: acoustics!!! Imagine, the conversations are in a normal tone of voice and the dinning room is crowded! This is a feature only found in the most exclusive restaurants in the world. GENIUS!

Welcoming, friendly and clean local traditional #longisland diner . Genuine cheesy grilled cheese, burgers, sandwiches and fresh piping hot coffee . Desserts are fresh made Chicken meat and potatoes freshly made . Located off major highways and close to bus Stop as well as LIRR. The hostesses were so friendly to us and accommodated us with seating . What a great environment, cleanliness prevailed, everyone was washing hands and bus persons cleaned table expeditiously. Take a apple pie home ! Thinking holiday ordering Enjoy all

Every time I fly back to Long Island it's a must stop to eat at this wonderful Diner! Food is never a disappointment... Excellent service and always decorated beautifully from the Chef!

Average diner food with 10 star decorations for Christmas. We came here after seeing a glowing review on News 12. My pregnant wife and toddler really enjoyed the festive decorations. It was all done very nicely. But the service was so slow. Our waiter seemed disinterested and annoyed. He only came to our table to check on us once and I had to flag him down to bring the check. (lost one star) The host was really very nice, and upon leaving, gave my daughter a big black and white cookie and two lollipops. I ordered the french onion soup, which was standard diner french onion soup. I also had the lamb gyro which was excellent. Wife ordered chicken fingers with fries. I had one of her chicken fingers, I would say it was less than average.

Great old fashioned diner. Service was good. Burgers and salads great too. You can't take basic diner food for granted anymore. Oconee serves delicious food at a fair price. Will definitely come again if in the area.

First time at the famous Oconee diner and super glad I got to visit during the Christmas season! Upon arriving, holiday inflatables greet you outside with Christmas music. Super festive! "WOW" is the only way I can describe the inside. You need to see for yourself! I thought our party of six would need to wait for a table on a Sunday night but they took us right away. Everyone loved their food. I ordered chicken fingers and fries. Fries could have been a little better but still good nonetheless. Service was great. We had some dessert and were sent off with cookies!

No matter what holiday it is, or in between them, this is an excellent diner on Long Island! They are always decked out in decorations (roof to lawn...ceiling to tables) that will put you in the holiday spirit. Service is always great...fast, friendly, efficient servers, chefs that know how to cook, etc. The food is large portions, so expect to bring home leftovers. We have tried breakfast, lunch, and dinner...all are great, never a disappointment. Btw, they know how to cook eggs, I know that can be a deal breaker.

The four star reviews must be from costumer service because that's the only thing this place has to offer. I order the corned beef has with eggs and a side of sausage. The hash was basically dog food, mushy and unflavored. The eggs were the only thing g worth being in the plate. The potatoes were stale and over boiled and the sausage well...the picture speaks for itself.

Fried chicken cutlets were thin and dried out, the bruschetta toasts were $9 for a small container maybe20 mini toasts, we bought to have with the tapenade on them but the oil used to toast them was rancid they were very old, must have been sitting on their shelf for months, $9 in the garage. Same with the bread sticks - stale, old and over priced. The pasta salad was ok, bit tasteless, rice balls had a weird sour taste as did the mozzarella balls. The meatballs looked like chicken meat balls they were so light in color several people asked me 'are they chicken' they were not, they were gross, mostly breading and didn't have any taste, they also didn't put any sauce in the container though in the case whenI ordered, they were down with sauce. We didn't try the several kind of olives or roasted peppers we purchased as we ended up going out to lunch elsewhere because after all of that wasted food, we didn't have enough food for everyone on the boat. I've never had a worse experience with an Italian market, what a waste of $140!! Better to make the drive to Gemelli's in Babylon.

I got there a bit after 8am on a Tuesday morning and about the half the tables were filled with a mix of families, working people and I'm guessing a few retirees. Many must be regulars since they were greeted by name. I sat at the counter so as not to take the only remaining table for two that was available. I was greeted immediately and given a regular menu and a specials menu. A cup of coffee almost magically appeared and I have to say it was one of the best cups of restaurant coffee I've ever had! They have an extensive menu, everything from pancakes to waffles, eggs in every iteration you can imagine, to oatmeal! I decided on a spinach/mushroom/onion omelet with home fries a side of bacon and rye toast. You choose omelets come with one filling, additional are $1 each. The omelet was good but was helped by some salt & pepper. The home fries were tasty with just the right amount of onion but the bacon was overcooked for my taste though I know many people like theirs extra crispy. There were two waitresses and they both were friendly and attentive. By the time I was ready to leave every table was taken but there were still seats at the counter. Now I know why the parking lot is almost always full, especially on the weekend. If you are looking for Home Town restaurant with good food & great coffee this is the place for you!
