Even though I go to this place every year (it's a tradition) there are many pros and cons. This place is full of amazing workers who are very thoughtful and welcoming. It was pretty cold in there but we did ask to make it warmer and they did. And Robinsons tea room is in a very safe and beautiful area in stony brook. The food was phenomenal! Brought my service animal in a small bag/stroller and the restaurant was completely unable to accommodate her, despite her being a medical necessity. We were told to put her under the table even after explaining that I need her next to me for medical reasons. It honestly felt extremely ableist and made me question how they would accommodate anyone with mobility needs, wheelchairs, or even parents with strollers. When I asked how they would accommodate someone in a wheelchair, I was told they would "leave the wheelchair outside and carry the person inside," which I found absolutely shocking and unacceptable instead of actually making the space accessible. What made the experience worse was the attitude from two staff members. One older woman rudely said, "move out of my way, I have to walk," instead of simply saying excuse me. Later, when the younger hostess/waitress checked on us, we honestly explained that we were upset by how the situation was handled and how they never once asked for service animal paperwork despite trying to deny accommodation. We weren't looking for anything other than a sincere apology, but neither of the two women involved could bring themselves to apologize. Thankfully, another employee came over, acknowledged the situation, apologized sincerely, and even offered us two free scones, which we appreciated. It's upsetting because I actually really liked this place and thought it was super cute, but I can't comfortably support a business that handled disability accommodations this poorly. read more

I came for afternoon tea here with my mom and had a beyond wonderful experience! This is not only the cutest place but the experience is something everyone should have at least once in their life. First off, the ambience is incredible. The music and decor are so fitting with the theme. Our waitress Athena made our experience even better! She was so kind and explained the process to us and answered all of our questions. Robinson's is so lucky to have her. I did the tea service which they serve with fine bone china. For the tea, I tried the vanilla cupcake rooibos and apple cinnamon french toast. The cupcake one was my favorite and the best tea I've ever had in my life. I've never put creamer in my tea but it made it 10x better. I went with the roasted vegetable soup which was phenomenal and full of flavor. As for the tiers, I had a lemon coconut scone with clotted cream and jam. The jam was incredible and reminded me of the jam that's inside a rainbow cookie. I had the hummus wrap (dietary restriction) which was so flavorful and the dressing and hummus inside were great. Last but not least, the pastry assortment which was garnished with a flower. My favorite was the cupcake which had a delicious frosting. This is the perfect place for a mother daughter date, a lunch out with your girlfriends, or even an event. There were 4 of us so we got two of the high tea towers and I went with the apple cinnamon French toast tea. Then there was an assortment of sandwiches-the tuna and the cucumber ones stood out to me, I didn't love the salmon one as I found it too salty. Such a fun and enjoyable tea experience! I made reservations (highly recommended!) for 11:30 which I thought was the perfect time! By the time we left at 1:30, the place was packed... every seat was taken! The place, although small was beautifully decorated and had both booths and tables to sit at. I enjoyed the touches of art work on the wall and the delicate china and silverware at the table. We had the choice of an ala carte menu or the afternoon tea menu for $45. The tea came with salad or soup. I chose a garden salad and it was very good. Then we were able to choose from a huge variety of unlimited tea-- decaf and black, green and herbal infusions. So many options!! And if yea isn't your thing, then you can get coffee! We were then brought a 3 tiered mountain of delicious treats and sandwiches. The top level was sweets, vanilla cake with frosting and jam and cream filling, brownies and macaroons. There was also panna cotta which wasn't my favorite. The second level was filled with savory items--- mini sandwiches-- cream cheese and cucumber, lox and dill, egg salad and tuna (which were not my favorite and I chose not to eat them after one bite). My favorite had to be the spinach and cheese quiche slice-- so delicious and hot from the oven! The bottom layer had 2 generously sized scones (you were able to choose your flavor), fresh raspberry jam and clotted cream. The waitstaff, although extremely lean was very nice and helpful. They did not kick us out and brought plenty of refills of tea-- I tried 6 different kinds! I cannot wait to go back and try this place again! I even brought and order of 6 scones home! I really enjoyed this spot! It's a really cute British tea spot in the Stony Brook area. We ate outside and the waiter was very friendly and waited on us outside. The service was also pretty fast. Visited yesterday with my girlfriend and overall had a great experience. The atmosphere is quaint and casual but can at times get a bit noisy. The food was delicious; The cinnamon scone was fresh and flavorful, the sandwiches on the second tier were very tasty and the assortment of desserts on the top tier were all very nice. Had brunch here for my daughter's 16th birthday with our family - 10 of us. It was our first time eating here. Inside was small but intimate and comfortable. The music was all contemporary instrumental at the perfect volume of entertaining background noise but no obnoxious and interrupting conversation. The place and table setting is gorgeous! The food was PERFECT! Even though everything was little, it was just enough of everything to taste a variety and get REALLY full! Brought so much food home! The tea was outrageous! After a less than stellar experience a couple years ago we returned this week to try one of our old favorites and were much happier. Initially we had made a reservation for 2, however our babysitter bailed and 2 now became 2 plus a 5 year old. We had our reservation for a Wednesday at opening so I didn't think it would be an issue but they at first told us we would have to leave because they were too busy to accommodate a party of 3. They were slammed. They luckily were able to move some chairs around and we had a great time. Service was slow but they were slammed. Food was SO much better than last time. Not sure how I haven't been here before now, but this place is beyond adorable. It's tiny, adorable and you need to make a reservation because there's no more than 6 tables in the entire place! Came with 2 friends, and we all got separate things. One friend got the lunch special (pictured below) which is 4 tiers and a ton of food! Top tier is dessert, middle tier is lots of finger sandwiches and bottom is scone of your choice. This is all FOR 1 PERSON! if you've ever been to yea in England, this is as close as you're going to get in the US. I had a salad and chicken leek pie. It was so hot and fresh, I can't wait to back and get it again. The tea selection is so extravagant... I told our server to surprise me. She got me the Paris blend, it was awesome. I went home and ordered it for myself so I could drink it at home. The charm about this place is how casual it is, yet, you want to look trendy or slightly dressed up. Sweetest staff you'll ever meet. I was curious how the new owners would run the tea room and I can happily say fantastic! They recently had a valentines special where they opened later and my boyfriend who works night shifts finally got to enjoy it. The food was themed which was a pleasant change of pace from previous visits and the ambiance was adorable. Aside from being sat next to the bathroom where the fumes would whiff into us every few minutes, our table was so close to neighboring customers. The seating layout was fairly disorganized from our perspective - someone was even sat right next to where the hostess stood; I mean RIGHT next to. The table next to us had arrived 20 minutes after us and were eating 10 minutes before us which was strange. Food: - We knew the food items would be overpriced considering that Robinson's Tea Room is selling an experience however, $20 for one truly mediocre sandwich is appalling. The scones were bland and far from exciting. We picked out a single blueberry from the scone and even that lacked flavor completely. The tea was pretty good though. Strangely enough for a tea house, they don't automatically provide milk - I'm just being picky though. Overall, because the pricing was so high for such a low quality food/service combo, our experience was sadly, underwhelming. read more
