I've come here 3-4x within the past couple of years due to distance so whenever I'm in the area and hungry, I stop by Bambu for a drink and some food! My last visit (Friday afternoon) I ordered a Medium Wintermelon Milk Tea (you can get it without the milk), Grilled Chicken Garlic Noodles and a Grilled Shrimp Rice Bowl. Everything was delicious and very flavorful though I felt the Garlic Noodles were a bit on the saltier side and the Wintermelon Milk Tea was a bit too sweet (and I have a sweet tooth). There were a lot of flavorful chicken pieces and the shrimp came with about 7-8 pieces, also very flavorful. They have 3 different sauces that I was given since I was eating there and just returned it to the counter once done. My favorite of the 3 was the more liquidy one though they all tasted great. The place is located in a strip mall with a lot of free parking. There's some seating inside and one small table outside. It's spacious and clean. They have great background music playing and their unisex bathroom is spacious and clean as well. I miss this drink so much that I literally try to find another place that makes it, but it only just gave me disappointment.  They also had the mango halo halo, but of course I had to try that too. I LOVE this place. I discovered it last year and was immediately obsessed with it. On their facebook they've mentioned that they are closing in January so I made the 2 hour trip out here. Bambu is one of my favorite places to go for Vietnamese dessert drinks. The drinks are filled with fruit, puddings, Jellies, or Boba. Everything is fresh, including the coconut Che, which is refreshing and delicious on top of a drink. You can also have basil seeds or mung Beans added if you like. The menu has drink selections, so you don't have to create your drink. Service was fast enough as they made my drink to order. It is a busy place, but there is seating with a relaxed, chill ambiance. I ordered the Thai tea to go and it was really good! I really enjoyed the refreshing drink.

My stepdaughter recommended me this place to get avocado smoothies because she said they make the best. I trusted her, so we went there, and I ordered exactly what she suggested. Amazing! I've been coming to Bambu regularly for the past 1.5 years and to this day, Bambu is still one of my top food spots in the area. Bambu serves bubble tea, desserts, Vietnamese food (rice bowls, vermicelli bowls, banh mi). Their food always hits the spot. The portions are generous and delicious. My go-to foods are Chicken Banh Mi with Jalapeños and Grilled Pork Rice Bowl. I haven't too many of their drinks but the few times I've tried their Vietnamese coffee, it was delicious. I'm not often out in stony brook but this was worth the ride. Certainly a cute little spot which serves bubble tea and even some food items. Bubble tea flavors are ones that you will not find elsewhere. For example a kiwi flavored tea. Sounds strange but was delightful! Also tried their spring rolls, 2 piece. Beautifully executed and the sauce is was dynamite. Please don't try to buy that same type of peanut sauce in store, you will be disappointed. Have not yet tried more of their food dishes, but if the spring rolls are any sign then their food will be astounding. It's like there is an old Thai lady working in the back cooking up her secret recipes. Front of the house staff isn't the friendliest, well at least not the guy that was there when I went. VIET ICED COFFEE Strong Vietnamese iced coffee, its signature fragrance and bitterness come through. Stronger than I'm used to but still very much enjoy it. Boba were squishy and very easy to chew, typical quality of bubble tea shops TARO MILK TEA Strong taste of taro! You can actually taste it and the sugar/milk do not overpower its flavor. One of the much better done taro milk teas I've had. CHICKEN AND PORK BANH MI Crunchy, freshly toasted bread with an airy, easily torn quality that give way to a nice bite of the sandwich which is a textural improvement from more traditional Banh mi where it's hard to rip off a bite. Radish, carrot and cilantro are present, but not as in dense quantities to traditional Banh mi to make room for the meat. Overall the sandwiches are not as densely packed as normal Banh mi but that's not due to a lack of meat but more thoughtfully proportioned level of veggies. I liked the chicken more than the pork which was a bit drier but had a really nice sweet and mouthwatering bbq flavor to it. The chicken was nice and hearty, tender and crispy. PORK SPRING ROLLS Meaty, with a Thai chili dipping sauce and not the typical fish sauce from viet places. Skin is the thin crispy kind and not the thicker one that has a more bready quality. Enjoyed these - meaty, salty, little bit of carrot and mushroom. How can you go wrong? Will def come back, this is the best spot to eat in its plaza. Dessert drink, banh mis, and fries? What's not to like?! Things you should order: Classic banh mi- I'm usually not a classic banh mi kind of person but my husband really enjoyed it. Chicken banh mi- I was actually expecting a lemon grass chicken but it was more of a fried chicken sandwich with spicy mayo. It was actually quite tasty with that crispy chicken crunch. While everything was great, i just wished the cucumber was cut a bit smaller and thinner. I got a huge wedge in my sandwich. #6 Fruit Addict- this was really good. It had so many toppings in it that I wasn't sure what I was eating. Definitely get this after your meal. Viet iced coffee- yums, can't mess this up Banh mi fries- The fries were so crispy. Loved the double fried texture. Daikons and carrots were placed on the side but some of the fries were soggy because they were touching it. Verdict? Everything was delicious. A good place to get authentic Vietnamese Che. I got the coconut combo. While it was good the flavors weren't very strong. After a while it started to taste watered down. It felt like I drank most of it pretty quick. I paid $8 for this which I thought was kind of pricey. Still, I enjoyed very much and would go back. Some foods to try out: BBQ pork banh mi - my go-to meal. the pork is tender and flavorful. it pairs so well with the pickled carrots and radish. cucumbers are fresh as well. beautiful and colorful meal. Loaded fries - basically a deconstructed banh mi with fries. *make sure you get the loaded fries and not the banh mi fries for an elevated experience. (i promise it's good. try it out :)) Highly recommend getting bubble tea to pair with your banh mi. I knew I wanted Che and the person working at the time was really friendly and said that their most popular options is the #1 Bambu Special or the #10 Bambu Favorite. I went with his recommendation and got the #10 Bambu Favorite ($5.50). This dessert drink comes with red tapioca, grass jelly, pandan jelly, and coconut milk. After taking a sip I was blown away!! Wow! So impressed and i'm hooked! Coming from the City, it's so hard to find good Asian food out on the Island, which is why I am willing to travel for food. We've tried a few of the rice bowls, vermicelli bowls and banh mis and the pork rice/vermicelli bowls were the best and the chicken banh mi is to die for. I will note, the banh mi is not the traditional banh mi i'm used to, but it was still good. The chicken had a bit of a kick with a spicy sauce which was delicious and the chicken, not dry at all. Portions are decent and prices are great. You also can't leave without getting a drink. I love the thousand eyes and it hits the spot everytime. For the most part, the staff are friendly and accommodating (i'm a picky eater) and we've been here a handful of times already and everytime the food was just as good as the last. I really enjoyed my sandwich as the bun was nice and crispy, and they added just the right amount of protein and the veggie toppings. It was good they asked me the spice level. My son liked his BBQ pork except it wasn't that BBQ-y. My wife just got the red bean combo drink. All in all, it exceeded my expectation and I give it strong 3 stars. This is my go to banh mi/milk tea place around the Stony Brook area. I have been coming here for the past 4 or so years while studying at Stony Brook University and it really hits the spot! It is very comparable to places in the city and is definitely the best of its kind around the area. My go to order is the spicy chicken banh mi and the thai milk tea; the loaded fries also do not disappoint! They have a wide variety of drinks and food, you really cannot go wrong. If you don't know what to get, I highly recommend the chicken banh mi or loaded fries. The prices have increased slightly recently by about $0.40 or so for the banh mi sandwiches, but I am still happy to pay for it! A banh mi sandwich and a small drink will cost you about $12 which is pretty fair. The only problem I ever had with this place is that one time, I found a what seemed to be an unused bandaid in my sandwich. It definitely was frightening and ruined my appetite, but all in all, I still love this place. If it weren't for this incident, this would be an easy 5 star place, but 4 stars is still extremely valuable considering this happened to me. read more

Five stars for their Thai ice tea with boba. I just got back from spending two months in northern Thailand and was craving Thai ice tea. I'm beyond happy to have found Bambu had it on their menu and amazed that it tastes as good as the tea I had in Thailand. It's a pretty good balance of flavor, given the milks etc that go into Thai ice tea it's easy to make one flavor over power another.
