I've been coming to the SoBol in St. James for years and always loved it--especially when it was run by local young people who were kind and made the environment feel warm and welcoming. But my experience on 4/5 around 3:55 PM was humiliating, upsetting, and flat-out unacceptable. I have a speech disability--I stutter--and while I was trying to order (a regular-sized açaí bowl with Nutella and mangos), the employee helping me walked away mid-order without saying a word. He went into the back and brought out someone else to take my order. While I struggled to speak, he stood in the back and stared at me the entire time, watching me with absolutely no empathy as I was visibly anxious and uncomfortable. It felt like I was being put on display--like a problem they didn't want to deal with. I ended up typing my order because I was so embarrassed and anxious. Let me be clear: my stutter is not the issue--your staff's reaction to it is. The lack of patience, the complete disregard for basic human decency, and the way I was made to feel less-than--it was ableist, plain and simple. I never thought I'd have to say this about a place I used to genuinely enjoy, but I left feeling ashamed and angry. If there's new ownership, it definitely shows--and not in a good way. I hope serious action is taken, because no one should be treated this way for simply speaking differently. read more

Tabi was awsome! it's been awhile since I came to Sobol to get my regular bowl w/ Nutella, and I forgot to mention -no banana, but he kindly removed them and piled that cup up w star berries and honey and coconut and more nutella. So kind! deff made my overly expensive $15 bowl worth it. tysm! read more

I'm not understanding the concept of these places so I'm going to give 3 yelp stars. If you want to come in to eat a bowl of acai or pitaya, you've come to the right place. SoBol St.James creates "something". Its not ice cream but its frozen and sweet. It's not equivalent to having a salad, maybe a fruit salad? They also sell coffee but its served in a large pot warmer, something that doesn't excite my spidey senses. I don't know what pitaya is so I'm going with the Acai base. What they do is freeze the Acai and then create something similar to a Trifle. The Acai base, a homemade granola base and then topped with bananas, strawberries, blueberries, natural honey and coconut flakes. It's supposed to be lunch but my mouth is having a dessert party. Healthy yet desserty, how can you say no? One, if your older and/or concerned about your sugar intake, this is a sugar explosion. The natural sugar from the fruit, I don't know the sugar content on the Acai but I'm sure its very high. And I don't need the owner commenting on this review saying Acai is a superfood, there is no such thing as sugar in Acai. That may be true owner guy but the fruit and honey you add to the Acai bowl, I'm sure its chart topping. Plus this bowl is kinda expensive. Yes, its under $10 bucks and I'd rather eat this than fast food (Why I'm here) but the sugar is something to consider. I'm on the fence with these new places. Also why would you have a pitaya bowl that only has kiwi and pineapple as the toppings---mix the most acidic base with acidic fruits as the toppings. Make it make sense. Of course i'm an açaí lover, but i'm so happy i just moved into the area and i'm right near this SoBol! they always do such a great job, and when i informed them of my allergies (pineapple and peanut sensitivity), they took it very seriously. i come here every weekend before my ballet rehearsals, someone quick and easy for a good price and it keeps me full! read more

Awesome spot for a refreshing acai / pitaya bowl or smoothie! The place is well kept and clean and the pricing, most importantly is reasonable! I've had their acai bowls multiple times and loved how every time the fruits of banana and strawberries were always fresh. The granola is House made, which delivers a great crunch and taste. They have seating inside and 1 table outside. Highly recommend this place! They were also kind enough to supply my dog Chloe a small açaí to nibble on every time too! More pics to come! read more

I love açaí bowls and buy them from different Sobol locations in Suffolk and Nassau counties. Every time I go to this location, I am disappointed at how skimpy they are with their servings, so much so that I have driven out of my way to go to the Hauppauge location because their bowls are better. Today I went to the Saint James location and once again was disappointed with the amount of açaí and toppings that were put in the bowl. The bowls aren't cheap, they shouldn't skimp on their servings. And I tip them every time I go. read more

Was very disappointed with the experience at this location. I usually go to the Patchogue location and am always very happy with their açaí bowls and staff. The woman behind the counter was not pleasant at all. I was more disappointed with the bowl itself, there was barely any granola and the bowl lacked toppings. For a product that you are charging $9 for, it should at least be full and have the proper amount of toppings that you are advertising. read more

I live walking distance to this facility and a prefer Hauppauge. It's about time I say how I feel about St. James Sobol. One too many disappointing visits. The service is eh at best. Today, the friend visiting was more important then the customers waiting for their orders. The friend insisted that she get a hug and lean over the food prep area. The portions are smaller then they use to be and I would say the general care given while preparation is being done is inconsistent with other locations. I'll still go here, but if I can avoid it I'll go to another even if it's out of my way a little. read more

Disappointed in the st james location. I would give this place a 1 * compared to The Sayville location. There bowl had barely any granola in it. I have tried this location 3 times already. I will not be returning to the st james store. Store owner should have employees trained again. read more

I have a peanut and treenut allergy, so I'm normally careful at places like this. I told the guy behind the counter that I'm severely allergic to nuts so make sure there aren't nuts in the bowl. He didn't change anything so I said again, allergy dude. A third time I asked, heycould I get nut free granola, and then he made he changes. Definitely not about places that don't take this serious. The bowl came out half full and honestly I'm pretty bummed as I spent 8 bucks for half a bowl, but I guess that's how açaí works? Best açaí bowl around for sure. Super consistent product with fresh fruit. I get it with the local peanut butter. Granola is gluten free, vegan, homemade, and delicious. Açaí is fresh and not too sweet. They put the perfect amount of fruit and everything else. I'm addicted and it's a problem! read more
