Was there today for coffee. As I mentioned previously we seem to have an abundance of coffee shops in the area so I'm surprised they all survive. In this case I've been here before and the place was packed. Location is just across from Stony Brook University so I could understand but today there was minimal activity. A variety of coffees which I had no complaint with. Okay let's cut to the chase. The interior has an industrial look which is pretty common today, but at some point I looked up to see the exposed HVAC ducts which are painted a cream color. The problem, the tops of the ducts were caked with dust. Major turn off. When someone opens the door to come in or out I have to imagine the breeze, or today the wind, disturbs the dust/dirt which then has the potential to end up in my coffee or food. Again with so many coffee shops in the area I'll be going to one of them. But to be fair I'll check back to see if they get the message read more

Visit Date: January 6, 2026 I got the LI cafe passport book for Christmas. When my plans got cancelled on January 6 and I was off work I decided to look up the closest coffee shop in the book and start getting through the passport book. I picked Druthers. Currently my review is 3 stars because that is how I felt about the coffee. I am actually going back to Druthers for breakfast and if I sample their food and like the food I will up the review to 4 stars. I got the Americano and a shot of espresso. I'm going with what the coffee book recommends and it was recommended to try the espresso here. The coffee shop itself has a great atmosphere, nice lighting, good space a nice amount of seating. I sat with my coffee and read a book until I had to leave to go pick up my son. So the reason the coffee gets 3 stars according to how I tasted it. The espresso tasted really sweet to me with a hint of citrus. Not that terrible, sometimes shots of espresso are served with a lemon rind but it felt off putting to me. The americano got a little stronger as I drank it but my first sip had a weak pull to it. The staff were friendly, helpful and nice. As I said before when I go back with my friends for breakfast if I like the food and the coffee possibly tastes better I'll be happy to add an update to this review and give it 4 stars or maybe 5. read more

Incredibly friendly staff, cozy atmosphere inside and outside, and good food. I always get the Druthers Egg Sandwich from here; it contains no bacon (so not a BEC), but has egg, cheese, and toasted shallots that supplement the bacon (crispy and full of flavor). It's then topped with chipotle aioli, all on an everything bagel. It is so delicious everytime I order it, and I don't miss the bacon while eating it! I also loved their Lavender Strawberry Matcha Latte when I got it a while back (a Spring seasonal item unfortunately so can't get it during the summer). A great coffee shop by campus! read more

This is a convenient cafe to go to from Stony Brook University. The ambiance is amazing--plenty of sunlight and plants. There are not a lot of outlets so I don't recommend coming here with a laptop to study although it would be great to catch up with a friend here or read. I believe the service is good--the cashiers are nice and they are quick to prepare drinks and sandwiches. I got the Spring Matcha Cloud and the Caprese Sandwich. The matcha was quite nice--fluffy texture and tarte! It's made with homemade strawberry jam and lavender cold foam. It's creative and yummy. The caprese sandwich was so refreshing. Stopped in for breakfast and coffee. The place is inviting with simple decor. Nicely done. We had 2 iced caramel lattes with almond milk and the Avocado Arepa toast and a bagel. All really good. The server gave me a little extra caramel. See what happens when you smile. Just kidding, the staff here seem to take customer service seriously and it shows. Nice place, good coffee. Came here after work from of a recommendation, and what a lovely cafe it is! This is the perfect place to meet up with friends, grab a bite before work/ class or for students to study too as they have a lot of seating inside & out. The staff here was really nice and offered good recommendations. I ordered the iced burnt caramel latte, it was delish! I'm apprehensive ordering flavored lattes because I've had more experiences with bad syrups before but this is a super subtle flavor! Price wise it's about the same as Starbucks but I'd much rather my money go to an independent cafe. I was bummed that the kitchen closed at 4 so I'll definitely be back. One of my favorite work spots in stony Brook. Only downside is that there's only a single outlet in the building. Luckily they recently added more sockets to it so at least 6 devices can charge, but it's still only in one location. Would be a game changer if they added an extension cord instead. Gorgeous natural lighting and yummy drinks, although they are on the expensive side ($1 for flavor and milk alternative). Definitely runs cold so be sure to bring layers. There's a big community table as well as 4 smaller tables and bar seating. Also plenty of outdoor seating that's hard to come by in stony Brook. Big fan of the egg sandwich and their cookies. Was looking for a coffee shop around Setauket and stumbled upon this right across from Stony Brook campus. It's a very big coffee shop with lots of tables for people to enjoy a coffee and sit and do some work/study. I got the egg salad sandwich which was really good. There was a slight spice kick to it which gave it the extra flavor. I also ordered a matcha latte which wasn't the best. It was all milk foam with no matcha flavor and also really sweet. There is a lot to choose from. The tea list is pretty extensive. I was surprised Druthers had yerba mate and cherry blossom as options as well as a separate section of the menu of "premium tea" which includes silver needle bai hai, jasmine silver needle, Assam Halmari Estate, sencha, and traditional ti kwan yin. I was between getting a matcha lemonade, sparkling matcha, or cold brew. After debating for a while and checking Yelp review suggestions, I went with a cold brew. You can't go wrong with cold brew. The coffee tasted great and the service was excellent. The baristas were both very kind and welcoming. The parking lot serves multiple nearby businesses, making it easy to pick up pizza, omakase, or Vietnamese food. I would appreciate if there were hooks under the countertops for hanging coats and bags, but aside from that, it was excellent. Excellent coffee - hubby and I had nonfat cappuccinos - perfect and slightly sweet-flavored balance of milk and espresso. Our daughter had a matcha lemonade that she found very refreshing. The gluten-free brownie was rich and nicely-sized and my husband enjoyed his blueberry-lemon scone. The space is large, airy and comfortable. Service is friendly and attentive. Came here for a goodbye breakfast after a wedding. Druthers is a cute, modern style coffee house with lots of indoor seating and some outdoor. Coffee and tea selections are unique and some food options. Mom and I split the egg salad sandwich which was just the perfect split sandwich for some protein and a light meal before additional travel especially for us with nervous stomach. Light, with an aftertaste that's pleasant of seasoning and eggy flavor. The focaccia was more croissant meets focaccia and really nice as were the crispy shallots. Mom got a chai latte with a splash of vanilla, her favorite drink and iced was a nice touch for a summer day. Honestly it's hard to do a chai wrong so this as good as expected to be. I got the jasmine silver needle iced which is one of my favorite teas for how the taste is on the after side instead of the first sip. Iced is perfect again for summer however the tea could have been steeped longer for more of a flavor to come out rather than just faintly flavored water. Still, refreshing all the same for recovering. Contrary I know, but I'm not gonna take points off. Tea often loses something when iced so no I can't fault them for that. I can definitely see why Druthers is so popular amongst the Stony Brook community!! I love how they not only offer a wide variety of drinks, from coffee and tea to non caffeinated options, but provide a cute space for those to study and meet up. The coconut slushie was delicious! While I've had coconut milk in my lattes, I've never had an espresso and coconut combo like this! It had a strong brown sugar flavors as well as a subtle cinnamon spice taste. It was mixed super well and had the appropriate frothiness vs iciness, perfect for the hot summer! The cold brew and shakerato featured solid espresso. The guava fresca was refreshing. Not too sweet but felt that the juice to soda ratio could have been higher. Their egg sandwich had everything I enjoyed. The jammy egg yolk and melty cheese complemented the crunchy fried onions. The chili aioli gave it a nice spice kick. I only wish that they used a better bagel. Unfortunately it wasn't crispy or chewy and its dough-iness made the whole thing a little too dry. The blackout cookie looked really yum and was packed with chocolate chips. I'm not a fan of brownies or overly cake-y cookies so I didn't end up liking it much but my partner enjoyed it. There are plenty of tables in and outside, although it gets busy real quick. Some outlets available but definitely not a lot. Wifi was pretty good and smooth. Staff were polite. Food came out quick. Druthers is one of my absolute favorite recent discoveries. Their tea list is exquisite, Log Cabin being one of my go-to's. Their latte selection is great as well. The caramel they use here is far superior. Food menu changes seasonally & I could go on for an hour about their delicious Sweet Potato Toast! But I won't. Go & see for yourself. They have options for everyone, vegan or not. They even have gluten-free bagels (pagel)! There is ample parking in their shared lot & some street parking directly out front. There is usually a decent amount of students studying/occupying space here. If you are hell-bent on having a sit down breakfast or lunch, be prepared to potentially have your plans crushed. I have gotten lucky on most visits with the worst case scenario being I sat at a table outside. read more

I love druthers and been coming for years. It's gotten so popular and it seems they've outgrown their space. I can never get a seat to enjoy my coffee. I suggest imposing a time limit for seating. Some people just sit there for hours and it's inconsiderate. Maybe also installing heat lamps outside, so the seating outside can be used during the winter. Wait times can be awhile if you order an espresso drink as they have only one person making the coffee. Other than that I do love the coffee. It's very good. They make their own syrups and all their food in made in house from scratch. Very happy to have this spot but would love to be able to sit once in awhile. read more

This is my all-time favorite coffee drink, dethroning Starbucks' Iced Salted Caramel Macchiato (salt and caramel on the extra cold foam, please) from the #1 spot. TIP: Ask the barista to mix some EXTRA burnt caramel sauce into to the coffee to transform the Burnt Caramel Latte to a Butterscotch-flavored one. EXTRA ! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Free pitchers of Whole Milk and Half and Half are available on the counter. Most other coffeehouses don't put them out. Some condiment options include Brown Sugar Simple Syrup (easily identifiable by its dark brown color); Honey Simple Syrup (medium brown); Splenda; and Stevia. Nearly every drink is creatively invented. From the Blue Cocoa and Spicy Cocoa to the Sparkling Matcha and Ceremonial Matcha, I am sold on every drink that is prepared here. Let's start off 2022 with a coffee throw-down in Stony Brook! Well, let's back up for a second to clarify that there's actually no throw-down taking place (I just went to Crazy Beans the day after Druthers so I'm gonna use them as a comparison). And also this initial 2022 review of mine actually came from a trip here with my fiancée a few days before the New Year, but who's counting? What we really should be talking about is Druthers and how great their coffee (and food!) is/tastes. Honestly, sometimes I have a little difficulty gaging my coffee love when I try a smaller business/shop's coffee, but it helps to put it up against another place that was recently tried (i.e. Crazy Beans). Now this is not a shot at that other coffee/breakfast spot, but I do have to say Druthers wins out in coffee quality and flavor...by a country mile. One more step back before the coffee explanation just to say that Druthers is super chill/contemporary with its interior style. It feels like a coffee shop you might find in the heart of Manhattan with its circular hanging lights, greenery and wooden tables, and its somewhat eclectic menu. The staff also gets a shoutout as we were quickly greeted by a woman behind the counter who didn't rush us and happily took our order once we were ready. That's always a bonus on a first trip. What did we get off of that aforementioned eclectic menu? Well I say (and keep saying) "eclectic" because Druthers has some unique coffee concoctions as well as a list of seasonal selections and a myriad of teas and fogs. I shouldn't forget the intriguing blue cocoa as well (check the menu for ingredients). While on the note of not forgetting, their food menu is also worthy of praise. The Druthers Egg Sandwich (fried egg, smoked cheddar, crispy shallots, Calabrian chili aioli on a bagel) was crazy good. Oh and I should (finally) state that we got a couple of iced lattes, mine being with a burnt caramel flavor. It was definitely something I hadn't tried before in coffee, but it worked so well. My fiancée's hazelnut latte with oat milk was also quite tasty and she similarly felt it was better than some other recent coffee trips we had taken (sorry, Crazy Beans). Overall, Druthers Coffee is nearly spectacular. I mean when the Baron of Yelp, Bill S. has checked in almost 50 times then that's gotta tell you something! For me and my one trip, I'm already looking forward to the next one as Druthers delivers on quality like few other coffee spots I've tried on Long Island. The black cherry adds some sweet, fruity and brown sugar notes to the coffee and the bubbles are fun as they fizz in your mouth. AVOCADO AREPA TOAST ~$12 They make their arepas in house and the avocado was so fresh, the egg was just runny enough and not messy, with some tomato salsa on top. from now on I will only have avocado toast on arepas. Loved this BLUE COCOA Really really enjoyed this as well, had it iced and while the description might be something you've not had before the spearmint and other components make it really refreshing and reminds me of the amazing Philz Coffee and their popular drinks that are similarly herbed and flavored. Since Philz doesn't exist in NY get yourself this blue cocoa from Druthers instead ! EGG SANDWICH You think it's just an egg sandwich until you find that the bagel is warm and pillowy with a satisfying chew and the egg is garnished with mild chili-flavored topping that really brings up the salty and spice without giving you heat (so if you don't like spicy, you won't have to be scared). I'm so happy that there is a place like Druthers in the area. I've been coming here since it opened, and it's become one of my favorite spots. It's bright, airy, with a decent amount of seating indoors and out. It's so hard sometimes to pick what to eat for breakfast because everything is delicious. The egg sandwich with the crispy shallots and calabrian chili aioli has the right amount of spiciness, and is one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had. The sweet potato toast is delicious, the breakfast burrito is out of this world, and I'd love to have French toast from here every day. See? It takes me foreber to decide what to get. The cookies are phenomenal - crispy on the the edges, and melt in your mouth in the middle. The matcha sugar cookie is my favorite. You really can't go wrong with anything that's on the menu - everything is fresh, delicious, and made with care. The burnt caramel latte has been one of my favorites since day 1, and the seasonal specials are always good. Syrups are made in house, none of that artificial stuff, which is an addded bonus. I also really love how they have premium teas to pick from - it's not very often you can order a silver needle or tie guan yin from a coffee shop, and as an avid tea drinker I appreciate this. this is a staple in stony brook. this coffee shop opened a couple years ago, and i've seen it quickly expand in both popularity and size. the seating inside is super limited--most times when i come, i don't even get a seat. however, their drinks are literally incredible; there's no other coffee that compares in the area. my go-to order is the maple latte. the maple syrup they use is amazing. even though it's a bit pricey, it's absolutely worth it for the flavor. the vibe inside is super cozy and cute, like a trendy coffee shop. i'd love to go there to study, though it's always busy and there's only one seat with an outlet. the food is incredible too--the bagels are so flavorful and perfect. i believe their menu is entirely vegetarian (though that might change, so it's worth double-checking), and they have a wide range of milk options. overall, it's an amazing spot and one of my favorite cafés; i just wish there was more seating, but i totally get why it's always busy. read more
