It's funny how little pieces of knowledge help to make connections about restaurants. What I'm referring to is the info that Javier's Café was started up by ex-members of the famous Maureen's Kitchen of Smithtown. What's also pretty funny is that you could probably close your eyes, eat some of Javier's tasty grub, and you might just think you're at Maureen's...or dare I say that you'll keep your eyes open because Javier's is better! Let's not start any quarrels just yet, but back a few months ago when my wife and I visited Javier's for a morning meal, we went in knowing that there was some positive (under-the-radar) hype about this quaint Smithtown spot. The interior of Javier's feels a little cozy and runs itself in line with what you might see at a small restaurant with diner flares and wood finishes (definitely a different vibe than Maureen's and its country cow feel). I'll say it was a bit chilly that late March day and it wasn't the warmest inside Javier's, but even with that fact in tact I still went for an iced latte with vanilla to begin my morning. Definitely a tasty start to things (with the wife doing the same). Shifting to food, it's really the menu that gives off those Maureen's connections. The chalkboard writing specials and the options come very close to the things you'd find at the breakfast restaurant with a cow in front of it. But it's one thing to have similar food items and it's another thing altogether to be able to execute it. Spoiler alert: Javier's executes it. Let's just backtrack for one sec and say that beyond the specials, Javier's had a nice menu of breakfast choices with plenty of French toast, egg, pancake, and omelette options. You don't have to get a special, but I mean, you should. Well, for my wife and I, my breakfast choice was a special while hers was a little more simplistic (but delicious). I went with the croissant French toast which was stuffed with chocolate chip cannoli cream, strawberries, and bananas. Not only is this a very similar Maureen's menu item, it also tasted just as delicious. Creamy, fruity, a little crispy on the croissant edges, and just a fantastic food item. For my wife, she went simple with scrambled eggs (with some cheese on top), home fries, sausage, and toast. All of her meal was equally delicious and the flavors, despite it being a more basic plate of food, also reminded me of Maureen's. Now here's the difference between these two very similar spots (well, besides the ambiance). Javier's was relaxing and I'll also say the staff might have been a tad more on top of their game. Our waitress was friendly and a few other workers checked in and were present as the meal went on. The thing with Maureen's is its following just often makes the place a madhouse which is just a different kind of vibe than Javier's. Overall, is Maureen's better? Does Javier's Café take the edge? If you're going off of my words in this review you might just realize which way I now am leaning (heh heh), but be the judge for yourself and honestly if you haven't heard of Javier's and you don't want that cow-themed hustle and bustle, then this place will give you just about everything you'd hope for.

I've been here a lot of times over the last years and always enjoyed it. This place is the spot that made me a believer of going out for breakfast. However, my most recent visit proved otherwise. The bar fell pretty low. TIPS: Ambiance wise, this place is small. They make up for it in the summer with outdoor seating options however inside be prepared to wait. Also, there is parking in the back. Also this place only accepts Cash and Debit. (-) The service was alright. We only had a 15 minute wait but we were sat at an awkward small table by the coffee bar area. *The lady that took our order was obviously distracted and kept looking at the door to the extent that we had to repeat ourselves for our order. ***That being said they STILL got our order wrong. Not only that, but the way it was handled!!!*** We ordered a build your own omelette and asked for mozzarella cheese- what came to the table was one with American yellow cheese on top and inside the omelette. Now fine, I get mistakes happen... BUT when they brought it back to the kitchen to fix it, tell me why they scraped off the American yellow cheese and just added slices of mozzarella and toasted it again. We not only saw this from where we were sitting because the kitchen was visible but we also received it this way with remains of American chews visible. On top of this, it was the OWNER Javier himself that did this! To me, for the owner of all people to have such low standards to do that instead of making a new omelette for us is insane!!! Says a lot about the restaurant. Otherwise we also ordered the pistachio blueberry pancakes- they were tasty, but dry, not edible without syrup. 2/5 stars - DISAPPOINTING experience unfortunately.

Drove into town for work and needed lunch! Swong into Javier's and it was great! We sat on the back patio, served was nice and attentive, food came out fast and was delicious. Portions are great. All other food around me looked great! Downfall - cash/debit card only.... Not suitable for all customers. Luckily I had cash on me.

That describes the last time I was at Nappi's Nook, over two years ago. Flash forward to this morning and we're looking at an update that shows a much different experience this time around. You see that first time at Nappi's was not long after they had opened. Kinks were definitely still being worked out and at the time, I just couldn't see it as a place worth choosing over other breakfast spots. But seeing reviews, awards, and that the place was still standing years later led my wife and I to come check them out again. This second time around we snagged a table (they definitely get crowded quickly) and had some very friendly service from our waitress. Things started with their Nappicinos which were a huge misfire that first time, but a definite improvement today. My wife got the Biscoff variety while I got the Peanut butter cup and boy were they tasty. A good balance of coffee and sweet flavors. Now when it came to food, last time I went with chicken and waffles which (from pics) still seemed like something I might enjoy more elsewhere and so instead, I landed on The Stove Top Skillet. This was a combo of onions, peppers, potatoes, sausage, cheese, and over easy eggs. It came out piping hot and it was honestly impressive in how it tasted. I liked the thinly sliced sausage coins and although the pepper pieces were a little massive, they were soft enough with everything mixing together nicely. As for the wife, she went with a special in the form of the hash omelette which was exactly as it sounded with Swiss cheese and paprika hollandaise sauce on top along with breakfast potatoes on the side. I tried it and it was pretty tasty as well. One last item we chose to order was a single beignet for $2.50 as a side option. Sometimes we're just not feeling a full sweet breakfast, but this little fried ball filled with chocolate did the trick. Was it comparable to Cafe Du Monde? No way, but it was still quality. Honestly, the whole meal was quality and definitely several steps up from that first round a few years back. The only true gripe I can give is the soundtrack to Nappi's. The music, a touch louder than one might think at 9 in the morning, was a little too trance/dance/club for the vibe of breakfast. Maybe on a Sunday for a boozy brunch, but perhaps some music changes would create a little more of a "Nook" feel. Perhaps? Overall though, I'm really very impressed and glad to have given Nappi's Nook a second shot. It may have taken some time for that to happen, but it showed that this place was the real deal because it was still around, and winning Best of LI awards in the meantime. Perhaps a place to get to on the earlier side, but for sure a location I know I will be returning to for round three much sooner than expected.

Toast at Station Yards in Ronkonkoma is worth a visit if looking for creative breakfast…read more The atmosphere was clean, inviting, and a comfortable place to sit down. Service was good overall--friendly and attentive. We ordered the carrot cake French toast, and it was honestly delicious. It leaned more toward dessert than breakfast--very rich, sweet, and a huge portion. Definitely something you could share, because finishing it solo is no small task. Also tried the bangers omelette, which was a bit of a mixed experience. The omelette itself was excellent--plenty of sausage, and the caramelized onions with Irish cheddar were a great combination. Really flavorful and well done. Came with homemade rye, awesome. That said, I wasn't happy with the home fries. I had asked for them to be well done, but they came out undercooked anyway. I did mention it to the server but nothing came of it, which was a little disappointing. The home fries also included a mix of what looked like russet and sweet potatoes--I'm not a fan of sweet potatoes at all! I wish that had been noted on the menu. On a positive note, the fresh-squeezed strawberry lemon mimosa carafe was very good, and at $28 it felt like a fair price. Overall, a solid spot with some standout items, but a few small misses from my experience. I'd still come back, just with a better idea of what's on the menu.
